Commercials. Boy, Josh Hartnett fell off the damn globe there for a while, didn't he?
Back at Dubai airport, Linda complains to the guard that when she gave him five bucks, the driver insisted that she owed him "45 million dollars." Because you know what's a good technique to use on an irritated security guard? Sarcastic hyperbole. When the cab driver repeats that it's 41 dinar, Karen apparently wanders over and finally -- finally -- asks how much it is in dollars. It turns out that the answer is 15. Linda's like, "Oh." As Linda explains, at this point, they gave him $15 and walked away. Well, that certainly was a lot of unnecessary stress, wasn't it? It's always good to keep in mind that dollars are not the default currency around the world. When in doubt, convert. (Well, unless you're hanging with Scientologists. Just kidding! Please don't sue me, or come to my house! I'm just funnin' with you, John Travolta!)
Colin and Christie pick up their tickets for the flights to Mumbai and then to Calcutta. Brandon books the same tickets, as do the Twinkies and Moms. But by the time Chip and Kim get up to the counter, the second flight -- the one from Mumbai to Calcutta -- is full. They have to take a different flight, as it turns out, that will arrive in Calcutta at 9:40 AM -- ten minutes after everybody else. Chip explains that ten minutes could potentially be critical at this point, and while that's certainly true, it's also true that ten minutes among these teams, considering how much everybody screws up, doesn't seem likely to be the end of you.
All the teams fly from Dubai to Mumbai. The Amazing Map is not challenged by is explanatory role. I think it is becoming resentful. On the flight, everyone else is sitting down, but predictably, Colin and Christie are standing up, and he's pointing, probably showing Christie how they can use improvised parachutes to go out through the potty right before landing and get an twenty-minute lead on everybody else. Then, the four non-Chip-and-Kim teams get on their flight to Calcutta. Christie has...a neck pillow. How precious. We see Chip and Kim spending a whole ten minutes walking sadly around the airport, getting ready for their flight. And then they board, and...wow, they're boarding in bright sunlight, and everybody else boarded in the dark. Either those flights didn't really leave ten minutes apart, or Mumbai has some crazy fast sunrises. Chip calls their situation "a chance for a miracle to happen." Like, I suppose, mechanical failure on the other plane. Hey, not every miracle can be loaves and fishes, you know.
