Chip and Kim land in Calcutta and get a cab. "We are in big trouble," Kim says unhappily.
Brandon and Nicole are in trouble, too, as their cab gets a flat tire and they're forced to switch to a new cab. Linda and Karen's driver is stuck in traffic; the Twinkies' driver seems lost. Chip and Kim's driver, on the other hand, tells them he knows a shortcut. Apparently, bad taxi karma doesn't travel from the Dubai area to India. It's a good thing, too, because everybody else seems to be in Traffic Hell. But the first to arrive at the monument, unsurprisingly, are Colin and Christie. Out in front again, la dee dah. And all of a sudden, we see -- as we have not since the first episode -- the Yield. Does this mean somebody's going to use it? Phil gives the full rundown on how the Yield works, stop someone and make them wait, one per team, one per leg, blah blah blah. Why is Phil walking so funny? I understand that everybody looks funny in white pants, but Phil looks...like something is chafing. (I'm going to leave out a really funny TARcon story here involving Phil and Loud Pushy Frank...if you want to hear it, you'll just have to show up.) Colin says they're not doing the Yield because they "don't want to win by using a Yield." No. No, there will be no cheap play for Colin and Christie. They want to win as the gladiators did, using good old-fashioned door-blocking. They go to the clue box and tear the clue, which we can see includes a Fast Forward (which they're not eligible for, obviously). The clue tells them to take a taxi thirteen miles to Garia, where they'll find the Globe Brick Factory. The scary music makes it sound like the Globe Brick Factory might possibly be haunted. Colin and Christie hop in a cab.
Next to the monument? The taxi-blessed Chip and Kim. They step on the Yield mat and say that they, too, will not be Yielding anyone. Kim voices over that they don't feel like that would benefit them at this point. She speculates, though, that they might use it later. When they open the Fast Forward, Phil takes the opportunity to explain it. Unfortunately, he says something, just as he did with the Yield, about the teams having to decide "when it's in their best interests to use it." What happened to "most advantageous to go for it"? Man, I hate change. Anyway, he explains that in this Fast Forward, the team will travel to a temple where they will perform a "traditional Hindu ritual." And what's the ritual? Shaving your heads. Both of you. Only after you're both bald will you get the Fast Forward. Chip and Kim decide not to try for it, on the theory that someone else will have taken it before them -- they don't know, obviously, about the taxi and traffic problems that everyone else has been having. To their surprise, however, as they're leaving, they see Brandon and Nicole arriving. They speculate that perhaps they're caught up after all.
