Episode Report Card Miss Alli: B+ | Grade It Now! YOU GRADE IT Only God Can Make A Brick
By Miss Alli | Season 5 | Episode 9 | Aired on 08.30.2004
The Twinkies arrive last at the Roadblock (big surprise) and Kami takes it. When Nicole sees that the Twinkies are here, she realizes that nobody went for the Fast Forward, so she asks if the struggling Brandon thinks they should go for it. "I don't know," he says simply. Kami's first brick looks like a cow patty. Chip and Colin both continue to make progress. Karen has gotten the hang of it, too, as Linda observes again, "Just like bread!" Kami, on the other hand, is still struggling. She gets unsolicited advice from Karli, who keeps telling her to shake it like this and turn it like that. "Karli, shut up. I'm doing my best," Kami says. Brandon breaks out a "Dang! This is tickin' me off." Again, Nicole brings up the FF, and suggests that since nobody else did it, they should. He agrees, and they leave. Colin notes this unhappily, which makes no sense, because he wasn't eligible for it anyway, so who cares? I guess it's just one more team that won't be last that isn't him. Brandon and Nicole take off in their cab, and Colin turns out another obnoxiously perfect brick. Christie high-fives the brick guy. Hey, no fraternizing, brick guy. Just because her ass says "Texas" doesn't mean you have to be her friend.
Kami finally gets one done that at least looks like a brick, but it's falling apart as the guy walks over and tells her, "No." She has one done so far.
Hey, guess what? The first person to finish the task is Colin. Aren't you shocked? Zzzzzzz...he and Christie grab the next clue, which says that they should travel by train to Sealdah Station to find the clue. They get a taxi, and Christie gives the driver directions. She seems to have taken over all taxi negotiations, which is an interesting development. I've barely seen Colin talk to a cab driver since Tanzania. Wonder if that was a negotiated change in protocol. It would seem like a wise choice if it was.
As Chip works on his last couple of bricks, he notes that his grandfather made bricks for forty years. "Big Lou. This is dedicated to you, Lou." Well, the next one is, because that one is rejected. Heh. Linda and Karen are close to done, too, and in fact, they ultimately finish before Chip and Kim. "The mothers freakin' beat us," Chip says. But then he finishes up, so that will make him feel better...one would hope.
Karli continues to harp at Kami. When Kami snaps back, Karli says, "Don't yell at me! You know that I could do that a lot better than you, so hush." "No I don't," Kami says. What I love about this conversation is that if there were a romantic couple that talked to each other anything like these two do, they'd provoke no end of speculation that they're dysfunctional, have deep-seated and sick control issues, and must seek therapy immediately. In other words, I consider them a great argument for the Some People Just Yell At Each Other A Lot theory of human behavior, in which I am a firm believer. Karli tells Kami to stop and watch a nearby guy make a brick: "Watch him. Watch him." "I AM WATCHING HIIIIIM!" Kami finally snarls. Hee. Yep. Folks are getting tired, and it's definitely India again. "It's gonna be our day to go home," a miserable Karli grumbles.
