The Amanda Clarke Foundation benefit is already in full swing at Grayson Manor when Ems and Nolan arrive, the former in a conservative maroon dress and the latter in a gaudy gold suit with the collar of his dark print shirt popped. They run into Victoria, who informs Ems that she won't be given the co-chair position for the charity on the grounds that she probably already has too many philanthropic time commitments. Well played, Queen. Ems and Nolan head over to Eli, where Emanda introduces Nolan as the guy helping her with that thing they discussed. Nolan pulls out his phone to show Eli James his own criminal record, asking if he's related to Jesse. It's the type of thing your uncle might say to you at a barbecue, not Nolan Ross speaking to Emanda's current nemesis. Eli's certainly not amused. He impatiently asks if the record can be wiped or not. Nolan nonchalantly makes a grand show of performing a few gestures on the phone, complete with a "poof" of his hand to signify the record magically disappearing. Ems then hands over a check for $100,000 and asks Eli to leave. He says he knows that was the agreement, but he doesn't want to be rude to Victoria. Eli walks off like a man who has no intention of leaving the party or town any time soon. Nolan relays that observation to Ems.
Elsewhere at the party Declan finds Charlotte, who he's been trying to reach all day. She wasn't at school and wasn't returning his calls. Charlie looks a bit like a girl caught red-handed and doesn't help her cause by giving the lame excuse that the day just "slipped away." When Eli appears, Charlotte introduces Declan as "Amanda's brother-in-law," conveniently omitting he's also Charlotte's boyfriend. Dec doesn't like that and reverts back to his whiney, jealous high school boyfriend days. He's pushed over the edge when Eli mentions that Charlotte spent the day showing him around the island. Dec tell Charlotte she can call him when she's not so preoccupied and leaves. Ugh. This again? I thought these kids grew up.
Ems seeks out Ashley to compliment her on throwing together a gala so quickly and for giving her a heads up about what was about to happen to Amily. Emanda offers repayment by tipping Ashley off to Eli being a snake in the grass that could hurt the Graysons. When Ash walks off to investigate for herself, Aiden appears. He takes note of Eli's quick wooing of Charlotte and somehow relates that back to his failure to woo Daniel. Odd. Luckily, they can still count on hearing from Conrad about some position for Aiden, and perhaps Aiden can somehow get Daniel interested in Ems once again.
