Stowaway. Jack's insurance agent has documents laid out on a table for him, explaining that Amily's policy won't pay out until the criminal investigation is over. He looks over at Carl, thinks for a moment and offers up some consolation for Jack. He can set up a life insurance policy so that Carl will be OK if there should be another tragedy. Thanks, guy. Way to jinx us. Declan walks in as the insurance guy leaves. Jack's still in a funk, trying to make sense of what happened that night. Not helping. Dec says he's still wondering why Nolan told him Jack and Amily had checked in safely at the hotel. Declan leaves for school as Jack's phone rings with a call from Victoria. She drops the idea of a charity in Amanda Clarke's name on him. There's no protesting from Jack, and in fact he responds as if this plays into some sort of plot he's concocting.
Victoria hangs up after receiving Jack's blessing for the Amanda Clarke Foundation and is greeted by Emanda who caught the tail-end of the conversation. She lauds the idea, extending a check for a quarter-million dollars and her self-nomination as co-chair for the foundation. Victoria looks at the check like she's just been handed a dead cat. Awkwardly, she says she'll consider Ems, but it really doesn't sound like she will. Lucky for her, the doorbell just rang and her maid is interrupting by trying to play gatekeeper. She announces that someone claiming to be Amanda Clarke's brother is at the door. Eli hustles past the maid, feeling the need to clarify that he is Amanda's foster brother probably because he is an African American man in this whitewashed mansion. He goes right up to Victoria, extends his hand and says he's very honored to meet her. Ems watches this all happen while trying to hide the horror from her face. She does a pretty decent job.
Reunited and it feels so cliché. 3D title card and commercials
Victoria and Eli continue their handshake, as he explains being invited to Amily's funeral by Charlotte with not enough lead time to attend. Victoria introduces Ems, causing Eli to do a double-take when he sees her face. Emanda explains it away because they did happen to meet at the cemetery in the middle of the night recently. Of course, nothing weird about that. Eli tells Victoria he was on business in London when he heard the news. He was dealing in rare books, he says. Ems raises her eyebrows with disbelief when he says this, but it goes unnoticed because Victoria's busy throwing out a guest of honor invitation to Eli for the inaugural Amanda Clarke Foundation benefit. Before Emanda can scream, her phone rings. It's Nolan hanging out outside of Casa Emily. Ems uses this phone call as an opportunity to excuse herself. She tells Victoria she'll be in touch with her about the co-chair thing. As Emanda is walking out, Eli calls out after her to say he can't wait to get to know her and anyone else who knew his sister. There's a hint of cynicism in his voice. Ems brushes it off as best as she can as she leaves, but then she overhears Victoria suggest Eli go pay Jack a visit. It's a race against time to undo the false past! ...or something.
