Elsewhere, Bitchelle searches the basement with her gun drawn, clearing all her blind spots, Jodie Foster-style. She finds the dead body of Gay Matt's assistant in a pump room. She searches the basement some more and comes upon Alvers, still dressed as a maintenance man, and holds him at gunpoint. He tries to convince her that he's really a maintenance man and then makes a run for it. Bitchelle takes him down, kicks him in the kidneys, and handcuffs him to a pipe. "Where is the V-I-R-U-S?" she asks. He says nothing. "If this V-I-R-U-S gets out, you die!" she says. Finally Alvers admits that he planted the V-I-R-U-S in the central ventilation unit. Bitchelle radios this information to Gael, who heads for the area.
Gael finds the detonator where Alvers planted it, underneath the whirling blades of that fan. For some reason, he can't get behind the fan like Alvers did. He radios Bitchelle and tells her that the V-I-R-U-S is in a vial that's hooked up to some kind of timed detonator. Bitchelle promises to send down a hazmat suit. "There may not be enough time for that," says Gael. "I've got to get to it and try to disarm it." He opens up the fan unit, puts aside the metal grating, and reaches under the whirling blades. His fingers are mere centimeters from the unit when a buzzer goes off and shoots powder all over his face. The time is 03:59:58…03:59:59...04:00:00 AM.
