Davis reminds her of when they met, amid an explosion and burning cars. He says that for a moment there, everything disappeared except the two of them. He doesn't think the feelings have changed. Chloe says she cares about him, but... He interrupts her and asks her to stay. He says that without Chloe, the man he wants to be doesn't exist. Ooh, that's a good one. Write that down, gentlemen. He leans in to kiss her. Chloe closes her eyes a little. She hesitates, then leans in. Kissin'. Smoochin'. Chloe raises her hands to Davis's face. She pushes him against the wall and their make-out gets more heated. They make out against a Bronte: A Love Story poster. Davis turns her around and pushes her up against the wall. She's feeling him up and down. Passion! They stop. Chloe notices something on the floor and blinks hard. She walks past Davis as the emo music falls away. It's replaced by moodier, darker music as Chloe notices a very obvious trail of blood on the floor. She asks about it. "What'd you think was gonna happen?" Davis asks. Chloe takes a candle and follows the blood trail. It leads to a misty part of the basement. Something is dripping from up high. Chloe pushes open a door and sees the top part of a torn-apart body hanging. Ew! Somebody call "Fangoria" magazine! [That is Clark, right? With a bloody "S" on his chest, in a twisted mirror image of that time they chained him up in the cornfield? Am I just crazy? I think I might be crazy. - Z]
"No!" Chloe cries. She's woken up in her bed. She looks around in fear. It was all just a dream. Or... was it? Yeah. It was probably a dream. Opening credits.
Commercials. Look, Honda Insight, I own a Prius. I know what a Prius looks like. You don't have to make yourself look just like a Prius for me to notice you. Having a naked lady driving would have done the job and been a lot cheaper.
Chloe is at The Talon, steaming up some milk for Mr. Fucking Latte, Davis. Maybe having him destroy the world wouldn't be so bad if he took all the Starbucks down while he was at it. Chloe, frowning, finishes the milk steaming. Her phone starts ringing. Chloe jumps, nearly spilling the cup of coffee that is single-cuppedly staving off the world's end. She sees on the phone that it's Davis Bloome calling. She hits the button for "Ignore." Clark walks in, carrying a copy of the newspaper. He asks if she's all right; she can usually make these coffees blindfolded. Damn that Davis! Give up the coffee, man! Chloe says she just didn't get her seven hours of sleep the night before. Chloe thinks Clark didn't come over for pancakes. Clark tells her that Tess is naming Davis the serial killer in that day's paper. Weird that Chloe missed it. Clark shows Chloe the front page, all of which is devoted to the story. Clark blames the blow-up of the story on Tess as if there are no editors running the place. "MANHUNT FOR CORNFIELD KILLER BEGINS," the headline says. A blown-up mugshot of Davis is the lead art. Chloe says the story won't hurt Davis because he's dead. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm delivering coffee to a dead guy. "Come on, Clark," Chloe says. Oh, is this where the lies begin? Down, dark lies! Chloe says that they both watched Davis die, and that Oliver buried the body. Clark pretends to read, saying that according to the article, one of Bruno Mannheim's thugs was found in a Dumpster, torn apart. Bruno, who? Oh, Blagojevich! That guy. Well, that's just awful. Clark says it's the same way Doomsday dismembered his victims. There's really no wrong way to dismember someone. Chloe thinks the murder must have been weeks ago. She's never heard of forensics. Clark insists it happened after Davis "died." Chloe unconvincingly thinks there must be a more logical explanation than the resurrection of an alien monster. I think the "alien monster" part is the logic-defying portion of your theory. She thinks there could be a copycat killer. Clark says Davis has come back from the dead before. "Not from meteor rock," she insists. Her arms are crossed in the "Clark, you dumbass" pose, but for once, it's unjustified. Clark looks disappointed. Chloe says she understands the "paranoia." Davis was sent to Earth to kill Clark. And drink all our caffeine. Chloe says that would make anyone believe in monsters under their bed. Thanks for making Clark feel 5 years old. Great job. Top-notch emasculation there. Clark says that doesn't change that he's a killer. Chloe thinks Clark's fear is the only thing keeping Davis alive. That and living in the basement with free food and drinks. "Let him go," Chloe says. Doomsy music rises to a crescendo as Clark agrees to let nothing go.
