Episode Report Card Maggie: D | Grade It Now! YOU GRADE IT Things Change

By Maggie | Season 2 | Episode 15 | Aired on 02.26.2000

The Health Centre review has begun and Felicity's father is a half-hour late for his shift and the appointments are backing up. Felicity speculates that her dad got "tied up in an emergency or something," and she says she'll call the hospital to find out. She talks to someone at the hospital and discovers that he father quit working there weeks ago. Felicity is puzzled and disappointed to find out that her father has been lying to her.

Tracy finishes his chemistry exam much earlier than anyone else does and he sits there for a while flipping pages and tapping his pencil. He gets the stank-eye from another student so he gets up to leave. On his way out he whispers "good luck" to Elena. Once he is out in the hall, he does a little dance to indicate that he aced the test. Elena laughs and the teacher closes the door.

Ben is cleaning a table at Dean & Deluca while Javier asks how his date was. Ben says, "It just didn't go very well. It ended early." Javier wants to know why and Ben continues, "She was beautiful. She was brilliant and she was funny. And she was great. I don't know." Javier wants to have a "man to man, heart to heart" talk with Ben.

Now Ben and Javier are seated at a bar. Javier sips a beer but he makes a face after drinking it. He says to Ben, "Everyday you come into work, I see you. I watch you. And I think: that poor guy. Look at the poor guy. Just look at him." Ben starts looking around to see who Javier is talking about. Javier says he is talking about Ben and he thinks Ben is crumbling. Javier continues, "Benjahmeen, I never -- I never told you this about me. But I dated a girl once. Her name was Lola. She was a showgirl." Ben and I laugh. Javier goes on, "No she wasn't. I'm kidding, I'm kidding. She wasn't a showgirl. But her name was Lola, actually. And she was -- oh -- Ben she was fantastic. I always knew, you know, that I was attracted to men, you know. Even when I was little before I got glasses. I wasn't dating anyone at the time, you know, and Lola, she wanted me so bad. And she would say things like, Javier, right here, right now. And we were in church and she would say this to me." Ben doesn't know what Javier's point is. Javier says, "Okay, I'll skip the big tearjerker ending. But I just wanted you to understand that I've been exactly where you are right now, left asunder by a woman and you can't keep moping around, you know, and sabotaging dates. You have to get over it. It's never gonna work out with her." Ben says, "You don't think it could work?" Javier thinks it can't work out because "Maggie is a married woman, okay?" Why, yes I am, but don't count me out just yet. Oh, I get it, Javier is not referring to me, but rather, he is referring to Bitchy-TV-Maggie. Ben laughs, "You think I'm all asunder because of Maggie?" Javier says, "Poor thing, you're in denial." Ben says, "Javier, it's not Maggie. It's not Maggie." You don't know how much it tears me apart to hear that. Anyway, Javier asks who it is and Ben says, "It's not Maggie. I just gotta get over it. You're right. But, uh, I, I do have to go. I have a class to go to. But thank you very much for the drink and the talk." Ben leaves and Javier asks the bartender, "Do you have, like, any sourdough sticks or, a basket of mixed things like Wasabi peas or something like that? That Japanese snacking thing you have, no? None of that? Nothing? A lichee nut, something for me to snack upon?" Ah, classic Javier. Is there anything he can't do?
