Episode Report Card Maggie: D | Grade It Now! YOU GRADE IT Things Change

By Maggie | Season 2 | Episode 15 | Aired on 02.26.2000

Ben is thrown by this development and he asks Javier what Felicity said. Javier doesn't remember exactly what she said because he forgot to take his "Gingko Bilbloba." Hee, hee! That's how I'm going to pronounce it from now on. Ben presses him for more information and Javier says, "Something about how fantastic he is and inspiring because he, like, helped all these people. But I do remember she was very excited not to work here on Wednesdays." Ben is miffed and he retreats into his own world. Javier asks Ben why he is staring at him. Ben denies staring at Javier. Javier asks, "Do I look fat?" Ben says no. Javier pushes the sides of his face back and asks, "Would I look better like this?" Ben says no again. Javier asks if he is sure. Ben says yes. Javier says, "Tighter though?" Ben abandons this scintillating conversation to make a phone call. Javier asks, "If I get Norma to work on Wednesdays instead, could you work on Thursday?" Ben agrees and Javier gushes, "Oh, I love you and your whole look." When he says the word "whole" he gives a little hand flourish just like the one Karen gave Will on Will and Grace when she told him that "brown is over." Ben says, "Ok, go away." I guess those charm school lessons that Ben took are starting to pay off. Ben's call goes like this: "Yeah, hi, uh, is Pam there. Yeah, Donna. Yeah, it's Ben." Ben, when videophones are commonplace, you'll be able to get away with sounding that dumb because you'll look so damn good. Until then, try polishing up your conversational skills.

At the library, Elena is studying for an exam. Tracy approaches her from behind and scares her. Elena asks him if he is trying to give her a heart attack. Tracy says, "The answer's carboxylic acid." Elena tells him that he's fifteen minutes late and asks where he was. He says he was on his way to the library. A woman nearby shushes them. Tracy wants Elena to quit beating up on him and he asks where they are. Elena says, "We? I'm in the middle of chapter four." Tracy recites, "Nucleophilic substitution reactions." Elena is floored that Tracy has already read the chapter and is acting casually about the upcoming exam. His response is, "Oh, not to worry. I'm like a Boy Scout. I'm always prepared." Elena doesn't seem thrilled by his attitude but when he asks if she is wearing "that perfume" again, she says yes and smiles. They start studying in earnest.

The class Knoll is teaching is finished and the students are picking up their graded papers on the way out. Ruby looks for her paper and Ben asks how she is. She replies, "Fine, thanks" and leaves. I guess she's not into socializing with the former boyfriend of her former boyfriend's former girlfriend. Wait a minute, did we just stumble into a Beverly Hills 90210 episode? This gang is getting pretty incestuous. As Ben picks up his paper, Knoll says, "She's, um, she's waiting for me to tell her what I want to do." Ben asks what he is going to do but Knoll doesn't know yet. Ben asks him to play basketball but Knoll says no. Ben glances at his paper and says, "Hmm. Guess I didn't really get Tocqueville, huh?" Knoll, the committed educator says, "Yeah. Well, it wasn't the worst in the class." That's it, pass the torch, Knoll. Inspired by Knoll's startling brilliance, Ben heads off to the library to read some Goethe in German. Okay, so that's not very likely. He probably really did go play basketball.
