When we return, Jay asks Laura and Sophie how they are feeing as they prepare to walk out on the runway, and they are running the gamut between terrified and wonderful. Sophie tries to make us believe that she's the underdog in this competition, because of her British citizenship, while Laura reminds us that her runway walk is stink, stank, stunk. Still, she promises not to embarrass the judges for having given her this chance. And then the show begins! It first involves a short film of the 50-foot Tyra taking over Macau. And then there are lots of Tyras, all saying, "Tyra." This is our closest insight as to how Tyra Banks perceives the world. And then there's the real Tyra, telling the audience that they are going to be treated to one of the most amazing runway shows in Top Model history. You will note that throughout this show nobody says one word about the clothes. Thanks for your sponsorship, Forever 21.
Laura is out first on the runway, and her initial pass involves neither holograms nor swordfighting. She does, however, carry a big stuffed lion and sports a strange smirk. She's feeling confident, and gives the audience a little wink. Tyra approves! Sophie is next out, and has to walk in her big oblong spotlight. She tells us that it might not seem very hard to stay in the spotlight, but you in fact can't see the light. But... that doesn't make any sense. Annaliese and Catherine walk and seem to do a passable job, and then poor Alisha can't manage to stay in the spotlight. I guess it really is harder than it looks, or else Alisha can't be bothered to give two shits. Jay tells her that if she's not in the light, nobody can see her. Maybe it's actually a good thing she dropped out before the finals. Laura does a fine job of walking in the spotlight as well, even with the giant bow of hair on her head.
Backstage it is total chaos, and Laura reminds us that they have very quick changes. We see Sophie standing like a doll as people take clothes off of her and put other clothes on. She describes the whole situation as mental. Sophie walks again, and though she stays in her big spotlight Jay notes that she forgot to put on her earrings. But we already heard that that was okay, and plus who can focus on accessories with big bows of hair in such close proximity? And then it's time for swordfighting! Several warriors pop up on the screen, and Sophie and Laura fight them, then take a bow. It's all very...whatever the opposite of riveting is. Maybe it was more exciting in person? Laura tells us that she's still a pirate, but has taken everything in this experience and learned and grown and become a better person. The girls next have their big dandelion scene, in which they both walk out on the stage, meet in the middle, pick up dandelions, and blow projected puffy things all about. And then it's time for the finale! Kelly Cutrone looks bored. Backstage there is much revelry. Sophie tells us that she's been very consistent throughout the competition, and has no regrets. She couldn't have given the judges more than she did. Laura is going to continue to fight her demons, and assures us that this competition means a lot to her.
