So the show starts off with Yokas running into her son Charlie's room because he was spinning around and just barfed on his bed. She takes the sheets off his bed and takes his stuffed bear that has barf on it, and as she is taking the sheets to the washing machine she knocks on the bathroom door to tell Fred to hurry up because she has to get ready to go to work. Um, if she is getting ready to go to work, it must be around 2 p.m. So why is Fred home? Why is Charlie home? Where is Yokas's daughter? Where is the consistency? It is all a mystery. I'm a poet and I didn't even know it. So Yokas puts the sheets in the washer, puts the stuffed bear in the sink, and carries Charlie over to the bathroom where Fred just walked out. She goes in and finds out the hard way that Fred polluted the place. Charlie holds his nose. Like the smell of barf all over the front of his shirt was sweet-smelling?
I guess Yokas was running late, because Kim and Bobby are in the back of their ambulance already, and Kim is putting a bandage on a cut over Bobby's eye. Apparently he hurt his eye while playing racquetball with Treva. They start talking about a basketball game between NYFD and NYPD, and then they get a call about a man trapped in a machine.
Yokas cleans up barf fast, because we cut to her and Bosco are at the precinct, and Bosco has a basketball and is talking about the game that night. They join up with Sully and Ty, and Sully tells them that they will finally win the game because their secret weapon is Ty. As they walk into the roll call room, they see Candyman, who is back on the beat! They all start talking about the Camelot Cup, and then roll call starts.
A fire truck and an ambulance arrive at a non-descript building, and a middle-aged man comes out and tells them that one of his men was in a mixer cleaning it when the blades accidentally got turned on. He takes them to the machine, and there is a guy named Danny Rojas sitting in a big metal thing that looks like some sort of vat, and the blades of the mixer have cut into his legs. Jimmy checks out the machinery, and Bobby and Kim try to stop the bleeding. The fire captain asks the older man how to dismantle the machine, and the man doesn't know because it has never been dismantled, and it could take hours. Bobby tells the captain to call the EMS surgeon, because the guy will have to have his legs amputated. For some strange reason, Danny seems a little upset by this.
Cut to credits.
Snap.com is using the song Easy Like Sunday Morning in their new commercial. Snap.com is partially owned by NBC. NBC airs Third Watch, and I have used the saying "easy like Sunday morning" in my recaps. Coincidence? I think not. I'm owed some royalties. Lionel Richie isn't the only one who needs the money.
Bosco and Yokas are in their car, and Bosco is eating a Ring Ding. He tells Yokas he has a high metabolism because Skanky Nicole gives his immune system a workout. Yokas looks just about as confused as I am. I can understand how she gives his immune system a workout since I'm sure she's rife with cooties, but how that has anything to do with his metabolism or eating Ring Dings, I'll never know. So then Bosco is telling Yokas that the Camelot Cup is coming home, and then he notices that she has something in her hair. Yokas is all upset and disgusted when she realizes that she has puke in her hair, and then she tells Bosco about Charlie. Bosco is all, "I can't wait to have kids!" I can. Hey Bosco, why don't you do your future kids a favor, and don't have them to start with.
The fire department guys are cutting away parts of the machine, and they see that the guy's legs are all mangled in the parts of the machine. As I'm reaching for a barf bag, the guy asks Jimmy to save his legs. Jimmy, Bobby, and Kim start arguing about whether to take the time to take apart the machine so Danny can keep his legs but possibly bleed to death, or amputate his legs and have him live. The captain tells Kim and Bobby to wait for the surgeon to make the decision and then tells Jimmy to work on the machine until the surgeon arrives.
Bosco and Yokas are in their car on their way to the store that Skanky Nicole owns, because she wanted to give Bosco some free clothes. They go into the store and it is all cool and trendy, and Yokas feels uncomfortable because she knows she has barf in her hair. Nicole comes over to them and kisses Bosco, says hello to Yokas, and introduces them to everyone working there. Then she offers them a cappuccino and tells them to pick anything they want from a rack of clothes from a trunk show. She asks Yokas if she is a size six, and she tells Nicole that she is a size eight. Nicole tells her she is a size eight too, and I think that was pretty nice of Nicole to underestimate Yokas's size, and then actually tell Yokas her own size as well. I don't think guys would understand how cool it is, but it is. ["Word." -- Sars] Nicole shows her a cocktail dress, but Yokas tells her she has no use for a dress like that, so she shows her a pair of leather pants and sweater set. Yokas's eyes get wide. Nicole might be a cool person, but she is still a skank. ["Oh, I don't know. I think Yokas would kick ass in a pair of leather pants. Okay, I'll stop interrupting now." -- Sars]
Doc and Carlos go into a park while talking about the basketball game, and they find a man sitting on a swing with a weird-looking cowboy hat on his head. With a heavy southern accent, he tells Doc and Carlos that the night before he had a lot to drink and now he has a bad headache. He takes off his hat, and there is a screwdriver sticking out of his head. Ouch! He tells them he doesn't know how it got there, but he can twist it around. As he turns the screwdriver around in his head, Doc and Carlos cringe and tell him to stop, and I reach for the barf bag again.
Sully and Ty are in their car with their sirens blaring, and Sully tells him that the fire department has won the Camelot Cup three years in a row, but with Ty on their team the police department can win it this year. Ty tells him he's not that good, and Sully tells Ty he saw him play when his father coached him, and he thinks that Ty's good and that he has raw talent. They arrive at the scene of a man beating on someone. Bosco and Yokas arrive too, and the guy runs off. There's a chase, and Ty and Bosco run after him and eventually lose him. Out of nowhere, Candyman shows up and asks who they are chasing. Bosco tells him they're chasing Red because he was beating one of his women. They split up, and Candyman radios that he has Red cornered in a courtyard. Ty goes into the courtyard and sees Red punch Candyman in the face as he is trying to cuff him. Red tries to run off, but Yokas comes in and throws him down to the ground. All the other cops arrive, and Red tells them that Candyman stole $2000 from him. Ty wants to check Candyman for money, but the rest of the gang acts like there is no money to look for. Ty, that goody-goody routine is going to get you beat up one day. I'm just saying.
Carlos and Doc bring the screwdriver guy to the ER and tell Morales that his stats are normal. Morales asks Screwdriver Guy how long the screwdriver is, and he tells her that he doesn't know, but he can twist it. He twists the screwdriver again, and this time he loses consciousness for a second and everyone freaks out. At this point I have barfed up all the wine I had consumed, and I feel the need to open a new bottle just to numb the pain of watching this. Doc tells Carlos that Screwdriver Guy is a candidate for the Darwin Award, not realizing that the Darwin Award goes to someone who died by doing something stupid, not by having a thick southern accent and surviving being impaled by a sharp object. Doc then gets a call about his father.
Danny's wife arrives on the scene, and Kim takes her to the machine he's in, and she asks what happened. Bobby starts talking to her in Spanish, and I would tell you what Bobby said, but the closed captioning said "speaking in Spanish" and "more speaking in Spanish." Anyway, we get the idea that the woman is upset by all of this. Meanwhile, the older guy tells them about a way that they can dismantle the machine.
Doc and Carlos arrive at Doc's dad's apartment, and there is an EMT there who tells them that his dad is having an MI. I have no idea what an MI is, but that's what Doc's dad is having, along with a pulmonary edema, and he is refusing to go to the hospital. ["An MI is a myocardial infarction -- a heart attack. All that ER recapping really pays off." -- Sars] Doc tries to put an oxygen mask on his father, but he tells Doc that he wants to die and that he hasn't been taking his pills. Doc keeps trying to help his dad, but his dad keeps refusing until he goes unconscious. What I want to know is, if he wanted to die, why in the hell did he call for help and have the paramedics come in the first place? Oh, that's right, that would mean consistency. Sorry.
The EMT surgeon arrives, and Kim gives the surgeon Danny's stats. The surgeon listens to Kim, and then yells to Jimmy that if he doesn't get Danny out of the machine by the time he gets set up, Danny's legs will have to be amputated. Of course, Jimmy figures out a way to dismantle the machine and get Danny out in time. They get him out and do CPR on him, and take him off to the ambulance.
Doc's dad is in the hospital and on a ventilator as Doc and Morales stand to him and debate about whether or not Doc should keep his father alive. Morales knows that his dad wants to die, but Doc won't let him go. Since he is of kin and Morales isn't, Doc wins. I'm surprised Morales didn't have the last word and then walk off, since that's what she does best.
Ty and Sully debate about Candyman and the pimp. Blah blah blah, Sully tells Ty to tell anyone who asks that he didn't see anything, because he really didn't see anything and he needs to give a fellow officer the benefit of the doubt. Ty should work for Internal Affairs, because he obviously loves to get other cops in trouble.
Carlos comes up to Doc, who is sitting to his father's bed, and gives him some coffee. Doc asks him if Carlos thinks he is doing the right thing. Before Carlos can tell him what he's really thinking, Doc's father's doctor comes in and tells them that, because of his father's age and condition, he isn't a candidate for TPA or angioplasty, and they need to keep him on a ventilator. Doc's dad gets wheeled away, and Morales comes up to Doc and tells him that she needs an updated insurance card for his dad. Carlos tells Doc that he will take him to his father's apartment to get the insurance card.
Bosco and Yokas arrive at a fender-bender between a taxi and a limo, and Yokas opens the back door of the limo to see if anyone was hurt. A good-looking man in his thirties steps out of the limo, and Yokas realizes that the man is Charlie, an old high-school boyfriend of hers. Charlie is also the name of her son. Coincidence? We can only wonder... So they have some small talk, and she finds out that he is in town for work in his field of digital communications, and she also finds out that he is divorced. Ooohhh, the plot gets interesting. He then invites Yokas to come to his hotel for a drink after she gets off work. Bosco, always thinking with his penis, tells Yokas that Charlie was coming on to her.
Doc and Carlos are in the father's apartment and are going through his stuff. Doc tells Carlos that he never really got to know his father, because his father never really wanted to be friends with him.
Bosco pulls over Ty and Sully and tells them that Red filed a complaint. Ty thinks Candyman is dirty, and Sully and Bosco tell him that all he saw was a pimp beating on his whore, and that's all he needs to say. Bosco then feels the need to tell Ty the story about a cop that would get other cops written up for stupid things like not having their hats or taking a nap, and then one night the cop got beat up by a gang and he called in for help but no one came. At the hospital, he told the other cops, "Point taken." Ty asks if he's being threatened, and Bosco tells him he's being educated. I don't know about you, but that sounded like a threat to me. Maybe Ty will tell Internal Affairs about Bosco's "education."
Yokas and Bosco are now back in their car, and they are watching a couple crossing the street and making out. Bosco tells Yokas that he thinks marriage is the death of sex. Like he would know because -- ? Yeah, that's what I thought. Yokas tells him that she is quite happy, and that she and Fred don't necessarily need romance to have a good sex life. I guess all they need is a fifth of bourbon and some stay-hard cream, since the last time Yokas talked about her sex life, it was about Fred being too drunk to keep it up. Bosco tells her that without romance, "The soul withers and the heart turns to stone." Yokas asks if he is quoting Shakespeare, and in a shout-out to Sars and one of her jobs, Bosco tells her he got the quote from Penthouse.
Morales walks down the hallway of the ER and finds Doc at the vending machines. Doc tells Morales about his dad and how he took the subway every day to and from work, and he had dinner every night at six, and he took the same vacation every year and has lived in the same apartment since Doc was born. Doc used to think his dad settled, but now he realizes how much his father had. He tells Morales about how his dad was married for fifty-one years, had a family and lots of friends. Morales tells him she thinks his dad is lucky to have Doc for a son. Before they can talk any more, she gets paged.
Ty and Sully are in their car going to some crime scene, and they are having a debate about Candyman. Ty thinks he shouldn't lie for Candyman, who he knows is dirty, and Ty thinks he should pay for his crimes. Just like your father, right, Ty? Oh, right, he got away with all the stuff he did until he got a cap in his skull. I wonder how long it will take the writers of this show to have a storyline where Ty finds out his father was killed by some street punk who was paying Ty Senior back for some dirty shit he pulled. You heard it from me first, folks. So Candyman arrives at the crime scene out of nowhere and asks to talk to Ty. Candyman tells Ty that he thinks Ty is going to support Red, and that even if he told Ty that he didn't take the money, Ty wouldn't believe him. Then he tells Ty that the reason pimps like Red don't hang out on his beat is because he knows just arresting them won't do anything, so he hurts them where it matters -- their money. Candyman goes on to justify doing this by saying that he only makes $35,000 a year (I guess the NYPD don't get much of a raise every year, because Yokas is somewhat new to the force and makes $30,000. Or it could be that the writers don't think that we remember what they wrote about in the beginning of the season. You be the judge) and he has two kids living in a one-bedroom apartment. Ty asks him if that's what justifies his being a thief, and Candyman asks Ty how far he will go to prove that he's not just like his father. Okay, could we just get it out in the open that Ty's father was crooked? Because the insinuations getting thrown around over and over and over -- it's getting old. Ty tells Candyman that he will never be like him, and Candyman is all, "Give it time, Junior. Give it time." Please don't give it too much time, because this good cop/bad cop routine is getting boring.
Doc is outside his father's room looking in at him, and Morales walks over to him. Apparently she is off-duty now, because she isn't wearing her uniform anymore, and is instead wearing a purple sweater set with matching purple lipstick. She tells him she wants to keep him company, and he tells her he's fine. She starts to leave, and then comes back and sits down with him, and tells him she wants to support him. Did I mention that I think the two of them are really good together? Because they are. So far they have the most normal relationship out of all the people on the show. They talk about being alive one moment, and the moment being dead. Doc brings up his dead wife Deborah, and tells Morales that he is afraid. Don't worry, Doc. Morales will make it all better. She always does.
That Snap.com commercial is on again. I guess stealing my lines is "easy like Sunday morning."
Morales and Doc see his father's doctor, and the doctor starts spouting off stuff about dad's heart that I couldn't understand, and tells Doc that his father needs some procedure; the doctor isn't sure his dad will make it off the table, but there aren't any more options. I watched this scene about five times in a row and I still couldn't understand what the doctor was talking about, but it sounds bad. Doc doesn't want to let his father go, and starts reminiscing about some Fourth Of July when his mother and Deborah were alive, and what a great day he had, and how it is all that he has left. Morales tells him he'll have better days in the future, and he just needs courage and faith. Doc is all, "Where am I going to find that?" and Morales is all, "I was hoping you'd find that with me." Like I said, Morales will make it all better. Morales tells Doc to ask himself what is best for his father. I think a girlfriend like Morales is best for his father.
Bosco and Yokas are in the precinct, and Bosco is playing trashcan basketball while Yokas is on the phone with Fred. Sully comes over to ask if IAB is with Red. Bosco tells him he is, and then asks where Ty is. Voila! Ty appears, and Bosco won't look at him. Bosco, if you were looking for Ty and you found him, why are you afraid to look at him now? Yokas tells Ty the IAB will take Red's complaint and then contact them in a few weeks. The IAB guy comes over to them and tells them that Red dropped the complaint. Ty gets all pissy and walks off ...
...and he walks into the locker room, where Yokas has magically appeared in front of a mirror looking at the cool clothing Skanky Nicole gave her. Consist -- oh, forget it. Ty tells her he thinks the clothes look good, and then he asks her why it is okay for him to shoot someone who is innocent, but if he wants to get a dirty cop off the street he is wrong. Yokas, channeling the spirit of Confucius, tells him, "Know your job, do your job." What in the hell does that mean? She tells him that she isn't risking her future because she sees things on the street, and that it is a long way from the street to the Supreme Court. Then she tells him to have fun at the basketball game, and that she may join them later.
Now Yokas is all dressed up in her new clothes, and she has her hair all nice and her makeup done, and she walks into a fancy hotel and goes to the house phone and calls up Charlie. When he answers, she hangs up. Feeling guilty?
The gang is at a gym and they're throwing basketballs around. Bosco has a toque on his head and looks absolutely ridiculous. Sully is wearing an orange sweatshirt and blue shorts, and honestly, he looks pretty dumpy. I'm surprised he wore something that made him look that bad. Anyway, Jimmy takes a small trophy out of his gym bag and tells Bosco that the Camelot Cup is staying with FDNY (pronounced "fidney" -- rhymes with "kidney"), and Bosco tells him he will be drinking champagne out of it. That would be fine, but it isn't a real cup -- it's a cup with a little basketball player on top, so it isn't open and you can't pour anything into it. If Bosco thought that putting a toque on his head would keep his brains from trickling out, he was wrong. Then there's some trash talk between FDNY and NYPD, and Kim comes over and takes off her jacket and reveals a sports bra. Bobby asks what she is doing, and Kim tells him she came to play. Bobby gets all bent out of shape and tells her there are no girls on the other team and she can't play against Ty. Bosco gives Ty the ball, and he shoots, and the ball slams against the backboard. Ty tells them he never said he was a good player -- I guess he was too busy being a mama's boy when he was younger. Kim is pleased with Ty's lack of skills, and she puts on a t-shirt and joins the game. Skanky Nicole arrives and gives Bosco a big kiss and rips off his side-buttoned sweats. The game starts, and Candyman starts playing rough with Ty, and they start to fight and promptly get pulled apart by everyone else. And that is all we see of the game. They talk about this godforsaken game through the whole episode, and that's it. What a waste.
Yokas arrives home still looking all sassy, and she checks on the kids and then climbs sexily into bed and starts kissing Fred. Get some, Fred! Get some!
Morales and Doc are sitting in the hallway of the hospital holding hands, and the doctor comes over to tell them something, and you can't hear what he is saying, but Doc and Morales nod and then the doctor walks away. Doc goes into his dad's room and gives his father a kiss. His father's eyes open and he smiles at Doc, and then he closes his eyes again. Doc smiles, trying to hold back his tears, until one tear falls down his cheek...and fade to black.
