Previously on Survivor, Peachy wore his handsome blue shirt and not his rustic khaki shorty pants suit. Also, HeiDDi had bad teeth. Roger "assumed" that the competition was a battle of the sexes, and you know what happens when you assume? Your unsuspecting ass gets voted off. Also, Deena and Rob planned to take the men out, with Rob apparently not qualifying as one. Deena emphatically claimed the game as her own, and although that issue remains in question, her ownership of the season's first immunity challenge did not: besting Christy at Rock, Paper, Scissors, she took home the victory.
Fog, a stuffed animal resembling toucan, and a delightful sloth bring us to Jackée on Day 22. Deena holds up a pair of skivvies, calling them "a last memory of Roger." The tribe members, led by Deena, laughingly decide to hang the undies up in a tree. As Rob plays air bugle, Deena tells us in a voice-over that Roger was "this sexist, arrogant man," and that his departure left the group a lighter, happier tribe. Rob cracks up mid-"Taps," and Jenna calls him out for being flat, an accusation no one could direct at HeiDDi. Rob's response is that he hasn't "tuned [his] bugle" in a couple weeks. We see another close-up of the tighty whities, which are technically more like tighty greyies. In an interview, Deena tells us she's still in control of the tribe, although she feels like she's moving 120 miles an hour and her "panties are still on fire." Thirty seconds into this episode, and I've already seen and heard more than I ever wanted to know about the undergarments of this season's competitors.
We see Alex, Matthew, and Davey Rockett seated, Davey Rockett looking particularly wary. He voice-overs that last night's Tribal Council was an "interesting" turn of events, proving that no one really knows what's going on in the game. Technically, last night's Tribal Council proved only that Davey Rockett, Butch, and Roger didn't really know what was going on in the game. Still, Davey Rockett adds that his game has been turned completely upside down, and that he's lost all stability just because he put his "roots" into an alliance with Roger. He sleepily concludes that he has to adjust to the way things are right now.
Davey Rockett and Butch examine the shoreline as Butch voice-overs in an interview that he and Davey Rockett are planning to build a dock as a "courtesy" to the other members of the tribe, so that their feet don't get wet. Butch plaintively tells us that feet are miserable when they're wet. The two men hack at trees and then run through the jungle in spastic panic to avoid one falling over on them. Davey Rockett scales yet another branchless tree using only his arms. He's suddenly something like fifteen or twenty feet in the air while, back at camp, Rob spots him across the treetops, and nudges Christy to look. Rob wonders aloud if there isn't a tree good enough that's not twenty feet high. Hee. Deena agrees that it is kind of funny. In an interview, Rob tells us he's got a problem with Davey Rockett because Davey thinks he's the smartest person in the world. He complains that Dave is, "Mr. Adventure. Mr. Personality. All the girls wanna get with him," and that Rob can't take anymore of his arrogance and showing off. As we see Davey Rockett shimmying back down the tree and nonchalantly brushing himself off, Rob concludes that Davey Rockett has to go because he's a threat, even though the more obvious conclusion is that Davey Rockett has to go because he's good with the ladies. Rob reveals that the main alliance right now is himself, Deena, HeiDDi, Jenna, and Alex, who happen to be the five people whom he most enjoys spending his time with.
As Davey Rockett and Butch haul a giant log together, Alex tells the rest of the group that if Davey Rockett doesn't win the immunity challenge, they'll vote him out; the others agree. In a voice-over, Davey Rockett explains that his intent has been just to be himself: "What you get is gonna be Dave Johnson no matter what." And as normal as Davey Rockett seems compared to most of the other players, he still talks about himself in the third person, proving that "normal" is just a relative term when it comes to reality shows. In a rain-soaked interview, Dave tells us that he's on good terms with everyone, and is dedicated, motivated and fun. He also likes long walks on the beach and astromolecular physics. Davey Rockett thinks his admirable traits will help keep him around, and he plans to start building alliance with the remaining players in the game. Although the words look hopeful, he seems pretty despondent as he details his plans. We see the dock, which is just a small pile of floating logs. Davey Rockett and Butch agree that it's not bad at all. And for a small pile of floating logs, I guess it's fine.
A creature that looks almost as much like something out of Lord of the Rings as HeiDDi does perks up and snuggles back down. We hear a nails-on-the-chalkboard sound, as the camera pans over to reveal Matthew obsessively sharpening his machete. The other tribe members look perplexed and worried, before Rob tells us in an interview that he's been living with the "craziest man [he's] ever met." Deena asks whether anyone else is as disturbed as she is by Matthew's actions, and Matthew counters that the machete needs a lot of work. When Jenna asks whether he plans to "butcher" them, Matthew contemplates the machete before promising that he won't harm anyone. He claims to be a pacifist before skeevily insisting, "Blood scares me too. I don't like the sight of blood. I mean, human blood. My own blood. Blah." Aside from the fact that Matthew seems to think disliking the sight of his own blood makes him unique, he pronounces "blood" like Dracula would: "Bloooooood." An open-mouthed Christy stares at Matthew before telling us in an interview, "Matt is creepy. He's just creepy. He's creepy." She signs what I'm assuming is the word for "creepy," and lowers her voice to a whisper. Hee.
Back at camp, Matthew is still sharpening the machete while the other members of the tribe continue to stare. Rob tells us in an interview that Matthew sits and sharpens his machete for hours at a time. He asks, "Why does he need the machete so sharp? I think he's gonna kill us!" We see Matt's sharpening in slow motion, accompanied by his glinty, toothy, dead-faced grin, and his unappealing, flexing muscle. Rob adds that he's afraid that after Matthew's voted out, he'll kill them all. In an interview, Alex adds that Matt is not only a threat, but that he's also "kind of losing it." Alex says there's a "weird vibe" coming from Matthew, and that no one is comfortable around him. This is accompanied by a hilarious shot of Matthew staring over at Alex, staring at his machete, cocking his head sideways, slitting his eyes, and staring back at Alex. He then slams the machete into a piece of wood. Eek!
The S9 hike through a very green field, where Peachy awaits their arrival to announce that the challenge is for individual reward, and will be played in two rounds. They will first be grouped in three teams of three, followed by a second round in which the members of the winning team will compete against each other in a final, individual race. Peachy points out a pool of mud with five colored flags, explaining that the teams will be belted to a bungee cord with the goal of collecting all five flags, the furthest being the most difficult to reach because of the tension of the cord. The first team to retrieve all five flags in the proper order will win the challenge and then compete against each other in the final round. Peachy reveals that the reward is "an afternoon of refreshment," causing Jenna to throw her head back and cover her eyes as if the words "afternoon of refreshment" actually means something to her. First, the winner will get a "nice, cool bath," and Peachy emphasizes the fact that it will be with cold water. Who wants a bath in cold water? ["If you had been hot as a crotch for twenty-two straight days, you might." -- Wing Chun] Obviously Peachy does; he revels in the promise that the winner can lie back and get clean. The winner will also get a banana split with chocolate syrup, a brownie sundae, and strawberries and cream.
The tribes draw teams, with the division as follows: Christy, Rob, and Butch; Davey Rockett, Deena, and Alex; and Jenna, Matthew, and HeiDDi. They're off and in the mud, and Deena takes an early digger. As much as it pains me to say it, Jenna and HeiDDi seem pretty good at this challenge, but then again, their combined sixty-five pounds of body weight don't offer up much resistance. Meanwhile, Butch appears to be attempting to swim through the mud, which can't be more than two feet deep.
Matthew's team is ahead for much of the race, Davey Rockett's team close behind. Jenna loses her shorts. We get a close-up shot of her pixilated ass, and the cameraman gets a fiver tossed his way. Rob and Butch take a different approach, attempting to pull/push Christy up to the flag while they remain behind. It doesn't appear to be working all that well, but it's a noble effort. Or maybe I just like Butch.
As the tribes approach the fourth and fifth flags, they all slow to a crawl. Although her team is behind, Christy appears to be having a really good time, which is nice to see. Matthew, meanwhile, is positively snarling. This challenge would have been so much more entertaining if the cord had snapped them back once they'd retrieved each flag. What a missed opportunity! They don't, however, miss the opportunity to show another shot of Jenna's shortsless ass.
Down to the final flag, and Davey Rockett, Alex, and Deena have taken the lead. Jenna is more focused on the other tribes' progress than her own, and Peachy admonishes her: "Don't look at them, guys. Let's go!" Alex snatches his team's last flag, and they bicycle backwards toward the finishing line while Peachy enthuses, "Ooooh! Backstroke!" It's an easy victory from this point in, and so Deena, Alex, and Davey Rockett move on to compete against each other in the final round.
The individual contest is Davey Rockett's from the start, with Alex a close second, and Deena a distant third. Peachy narrates that Deena's "bringin' up the rear," which is hella different than "own[ing]" the game, I'd say. As Peachy says, "Just like that, it's over," and Davey Rockett is proclaimed the victor. Peachy congratulates him on the "nicely done" win, and Davey Rockett faux-humbly responds, "Appreciate that." Peachy then asks, "But what is an afternoon spent alone?" and gives Davey Rockett the option to take along another player with him. Davey Rockett hides two fingers behind his back, and at first I think it's some sort of "jinx" thing, but instead he asks Alex and Deena to pick either one or two. Deena gets it right and leaps over to Dave, happily announcing, "I could kiss you!" Davey Rockett demonstrates exemplary restraint by not begging her not to. Meanwhile, Jenna looks pissed while HeiDDi looks flummoxed. How could he not have picked HeiDDi? She's cute! She's young! She's thin! She's 100% inorganic and flame-retardant!
Four birds take flight to happy music as Peachy leads Deena and Davey Rockett on a trek through the jungle toward their reward. He announces that he thinks they'll like what has been prepared for them, and I hope so, considering the whole "reward" thing and all. The camera shows us bath supplies, including fancy soaps, shampoo and conditioner, and two wooden troughs. Yes, I said "wooden troughs." They couldn't have dragged some nice clawfoot tubs out there? Peachy reads the script intended for any grouping of players, announcing that it's "a little afternoon hideaway for you two." Peachy then realizes that Deena is indeed one of the winners, so hurries to desexualize the challenging by pointing out the "his and hers" bathtubs. He also seems particularly excited about the "bath bombs," which he eagerly explains are "those little white balls." , Peachy shows off the food, including a pitcher of iced tea; the so-called banana splits -- which appear to be a bowl of two plain bananas; strawberries and cream; and a brownie sundae that could be more accurately described as brownie sundae soup. They couldn't have put it on ice or something? I mean, we already know they dragged a refrigerator out there, so why not a freezer? In any case, Peachy proclaims the area theirs to enjoy, and Deena calls it "the bomb." Peachy doesn't rush to say, "As I already told you once, those little white balls over there are the bombs."
Peachy makes his exit, and Deena and Davey Rockett set down their stuff and embrace. Deena heads straight for the sundae, while Davey Rockett is in "strawberry bliss." They continue to feast as Deena moans, "Somebody slap me!" I'm sure, based on some of her more egotistical comments, there are a few contenders. Davey Rockett and Deena agree that the meal is the best thing in the world, but Davey Rockett thinks he's going to be sick. Maybe from the two-day-old rancid cream.
Jazzy music plays as we see under-the-divider shots of the two players kicking off their shoes. A comic "grrrrr" singing sound effect accompanies the shucking off of Davey Rockett's pants. It's not in the least bit sexy, if that's what they're going for, but it is kind of funny. An open-legged Davey Rockett eases into the tub, asking Deena, "How absolutely bitching is this?" and Deena agrees that it's "so unbelievably cool." Davey Rockett then reveals that he's never before used a loofah, causing Deena to announce, "I would like you to loofah away." As he loofahs himself up, Davey Rockett makes porno "bom chicka bom bom" noises. Then, they both roll on their stomachs with their heads and necks sticking out of the tubs. It looks uncomfortable to me. They peek at each other around the curtain while cracking up, and I'm thinking that the iced teas might have come to the Amazon via Long Island.
Mid-laugh, Davey Rockett gets serious and says, "All right. Here's my dilemma." He claims that it "does not take a rocket scientist" to figure out that he's "quite [bleeped]." Deena puts on her serious face, too, as Davey Rockett explains that although he's happy to have made the jury, he'd like to stick around because he's having such a good time. Deena readjusts the curtain, evidently to look Davey Rockett directly in the eye, as she lies that she has absolutely no power to change "the fate." She explains that the contestants all know Dave's the strongest remaining player and thus the greatest threat. She suggests that the only way for Davey Rockett to stay in the game is if they move up Matthew's place in the voting order, and reveals that it's already been discussed because Matthew's "getting funky." Davey Rockett understands, and insists that he's just trying to "salvage" himself. Deena promises to see what she can do, causing Davey Rockett to bestow his most hopeful, endearing grin upon her. Deena somehow keeps herself from tittering at his cuteness, and claims it's the least she can do for "letting [her] have a bath with [him]."
We pan across the jungle to join the rest of the tribe, where Jenna bitches that it's Davey Rockett's third meal. HeiDDi adds that it's also his second shower, concluding, "It's so wrong." They appear to have just realized that Davey Rockett is doing well in the game. The two women discuss where they're going to bathe, and as they head off together, a skeletal Alex yells, "If you guys need any help washing up..." In response, Jenna picks a wedgie in his direction. Rob adds, "Just holler," causing Jenna to pick her wedgie some more. In another joint interview, Jenna and HeiDDi explain that they just returned from what HeiDDi calls a "sucky reward challenge." They've been talking about ice cream since Day 2, and whine because they lost it today. Jenna concludes, "We don't need the fat anyway." Another shot reveals Jenna picking her wedgie -- not through her shorts this time, but by sticking her hand down the back of her pants to correct the problem. Maybe she does need the fat, since she obviously doesn't have enough on her body at this point to hold up her underwear.
The Barbizon women perch on the edge of the tribe's canoe, washing only their breasts and bikini lines. Jenna says it was definitely a tactical move on Davey Rockett's part to bring Deena along for the reward, but that Jenna doesn't think it will work. She hopes the others won't return bragging about their reward, and HeiDDi plans to ask them not to talk about it. Throughout this conversation, Rob peers at the women through the jungle before telling us in an interview that he's nicknamed the two women "Twigs and Sticks" because their legs are thin. Not to mention, he adds, "I know that I certainly would catch on fire if I saw twigs and sticks rubbin' together." I can so see Jenna and HeiDDi getting in an argument over who gets to be "Twigs" and who has to be "Sticks." Twigs are skinnier, right? And cuter, too, presumably. In any case, wouldn't a better name for these two be "Twigs and Berries"? Or better, "Twigs and Giant, Mutant, Deflatable Berries"?
Jenna and HeiDDi now soap up each other's asses while commiserating over how they both got said soaped-up asses kicked in the challenge. Meanwhile, Rob tells us that as much as he enjoys the company of the girls, he doesn't know if they'd pay attention to him in real life. As Jenna slides her hand under the back of HeiDDi's bikini top and then down the back of her pants, Rob explains that he's completely aware that the women are using their sexuality against him. Still, he insists, "I really do play the game with this head, even though it does today look like a different head." Ew.
It's now Day 23, and an insect buzzes in a crocodile's eye. A bunch of insects swarm Rob's head, as he voice-overs that he doesn't know what it is about a "dirty human head, but for some reason, gnats hang out at a dirty human head." Ew. We see the gnats are buzzing around HeiDDi too, but there's a more reasonable explanation for that one: like to like. Rob adds that his head is "like Studio 54" for the insects, "and that they're having a party on top of [his] dome, and that there are about a million of them and they're in a flight pattern, an orbit." As a bug-free Butch looks on in apparent amazement, Rob concludes, "I don't know what's goin' on up there. I didn't rub my head in anything. There's no food in my head that I'm aware of." Again with the ew. We see a bug-swarmed Deena having a discussion with a distracted Christy, who may be laughing because of something Deena said, or because as Rob tells us it's funny to talk to someone when he or she has "a million gnats hanging around their head like they're Pigpen from The Peanuts."
On a trek through the jungle, Matthew tells Rob that he's feeling energized -- like he's getting into his groove; Rob agrees that they're lucky to have such a good group. In an interview, Matthew tells us that he really appreciates and values the relationship because Rob knows the game inside and out while he's just clueless. So I guess Rob wasn't talking shit in the episode, after all, since Matthew obviously agrees that he's useless. Still, as much as one can pity someone who enjoys carving up bodies and eating them, I pity Matt as he tells us that not only has Rob taught him about the game, "he's also a great guy." Rob asks whether Matt is comfortable voting off Butch if Davey Rockett wins immunity, and Matthew says that he is. Rob, meanwhile, pretends to feel bad about the possibility of getting rid of Butch because he likes him. In an interview, Rob tells us that in order to keep Matthew as part of their alliance, he needs to make him believe he's got "a different deal goin' on than the actual one he has." This is intercut with a quick snippet of pitiful Matthew earnestly insisting that he trusts Rob and hopes Rob trusts him, as well. Meanwhile, Rob continues explaining to us that he's constructed a fake final three for Matthew, consisting of the two of them and Alex. We see Rob slowly explaining to Matthew the importance of keeping their alliance a secret, because if people find out they're "in cahoots," they'll become targets. And anyone who had a question about Rob's dork quotient should note that he just used the expression "in cahoots." The segment wraps up with Rob telling us that he wants Matthew gone as soon as possible, because he's taking his life in his hands with the number of lies he's told just to keep Matthew happy.
A cute little animal with a possibly shaven head skitters around camp, as the tribe comes across several crates full of masks. Rob must have just woken up from a nap, as he stumbles over to join the others. The crates are each labeled with a name of one of the S9, and Jenna correctly concludes that there's a mask for each of them. The clue reads, "We hide behind masks to disguise what is real. Take some time to paint yours to represent how you feel. Let's see what you know -- this isn't a race. With immunity at stake, who will save face?"
As they try on their masks, Rob whines because his has "such a motley haircut," and he thinks he looks like "Moe from the Three Stooges." Looks like and acts like? He's got the whole package! (Ew. Rob's package.) Butch, meanwhile, has bestowed his mask with glasses, while Jenna's appears to have gray hair. While he works on his mask, Alex explains that he "started out with the, uh, eyebrows 'cause the eyebrows are quite obviously prominent." In an interview, Davey Rockett tells us he feels like his head is on the chopping block, and so his goal is to win immunity and to keep Matt from doing so. We then see that Davey Rockett has given his mask a word bubble reading, "Booyah!" and I think he's working the catchphrase just a little too hard.
Bearing their masks, the S9 arrive at the challenge; we see that Christy, for some reason, has given her mask a mustache. Peachy reclaims the immunity necklace from Deena, and announces that in today's challenge, they'll be asked a series of trivia questions about Brazilian and Amazonian culture, as well as basic survival skills. Their masks will be hung in front of suspended logs; each time one of the S9 correctly answer a question, he or she gets to take a chop at someone else's log. Peachy reveals that the logs are secured in three places; on the third chop, the log will be released, causing it shoot forward and "disintegrate" the mask. Peachy enacts a mask-smashing, while the S9 "aw!" at its unfortunate fate. For the record, I think this challenge would have been much better as a reward challenge, since a player who answered every single question correctly could still have had no real chance at winning if the alliance wanted otherwise. In any case, the last member of the tribe with an intact mask wins immunity.
Deena, Davey Rockett, Alex, and Matthew get the first question right, by identifying the meaning of a Peachy-uttered Brazilian word as an energy drink, and not as a religious philosophy, a game of chance, or bat droppings. Davey Rockett goes first and takes out Matthew, followed by Deena, who takes a second hit at Matthew, leaving him with only one strike remaining. Matthew and Alex both take a chop at Davey Rockett, making for a brutal round for Davey Rockett and Matthew, who have two chops each.
Deena, Davey Rockett, Christy, HeiDDi, and Alex all know that in the "unlikely event" that they're attacked by an alligator, crocodile, or caiman, they should punch it in the snout, cover its eyes, and try to get on its back. HeiDDi takes Matthew out of the game, and he takes it well, concerned only that he still "get[s] his licks." Peachy assures him that he does, and so Matthew takes Davey Rockett out of the game as well, causing massive "booyah"-ing by the other members of the tribe. Davey Rockett and Deena each then take a hack at Alex, prompting him to call it a "tough room." In return, Alex takes a swipe at Deena. Lastly, Christy goes for Alex's last thread, and as he heads off to join the others, Matthew enthuses, "Welcome to the morgue!" Deena and Christy fist-bop because that's what they do.
Everyone left in the game except Rob knows that "if you find yourself face to face with a bushmaster," you're looking at the world's largest viper. As they flip their answers, Butch immediately looks over at Deena's card, to see if he got it right. Looking at Rob's answer in disbelief, Peachy asks, "You thought it was a forest ranger?" Rob responds, "I thought it was a porn star before you read the choices." Peachy doesn't like that kind of humor and flatly tells Rob to take a step back, while Alex laughs, "Oh man, that was horrible, man!" Then Deena and HeiDDi double-team Rob, though not in the way he'd like. Jenna gets her first hit and goes for Butch, while Christy takes Rob out of the game. Butch returns the favor to Jenna, leaving only Christy and HeiDDi with no strikes against them. I hope that doesn't make HeiDDi think people actually like her.
Everyone left in the game also knows that Amazonian tribesmen still use primitive weapons like bows and arrows and blowpipes to hunt birds and monkeys. Butch doublechecks his to make sure he gets it right, or maybe to confirm that his answer card is working because, really, for a high-school principal, he doesn't seem to know very much. HeiDDi takes a swipe at Butch, who looks dismayed. In return, Butch takes a swipe at HeiDDi, causing Peachy to probe, "Feel [sic] good, didn't it?" Butch agrees, "It sure did." To my immense disappointment, Jenna turns out to be a lefty (I'm a total snob about lefties) and to Butch's cries of "No! No! No! No! No!" she knocks him out of the game. As we see that his mask's glasses survived the blow, Butch asks, "Do you know how many students would like to do that?" Christy and Deena hack at each other to finish out the round.
Apparently, the questions are getting easier, or the remaining competitors are getting smarter, because they all know that the Nile, and not the Amazon, is the longest river in the world. Christy takes a swipe at HeiDDi, leaving her with once chance remaining. Deena and HeiDDi then gang up on Christy, taking her out of the game. Jenna then takes Deena out of the game, causing Peachy to comment on "Deena's threat coming into play." Jenna corrects him that it's not because she's a threat, but because she already had immunity once and should "share the necklace."
We're down to just Jenna and HeiDDi, a scenario I think we'd all chew our right feet off to avoid seeing in the final episode. Because Jenna has only one strike against her, if she answers correctly, the game is over. They are asked whether a Brazilian word means "fish," "snake," "ritual," or "rainfall." Both women answer "fish," and so Jenna is proclaimed the winner while HeiDDi stands by, bucktoothed and mute. No one is particularly excited, since Jenna did nothing to win this challenge except answer the least number of questions correctly. Still, Peachy congratulates her on a "well-earned, well-played" victory, and with Jenna safe and everyone else vulnerable, the tribe heads back to camp wearing their pensive, post-challenge facial expressions.
It's now Day 24, and Matthew narrows his eyes and stares at something. He then whips out his machete and beings stomping around camp with it. Suddenly, he's squatting in front of a pair of shoes attempting to saw them in half. As he continues chopping, he explains that he destroyed them one night by leaving them too close to the fire, and now they're impossible to wear. He whispers that his objective for the afternoon is to "MacGyver these into a pair of sandals," and this conversation would seem almost normal if he wasn't whispering for no obvious reason. Is it a secret that he's hacking his shoes in half? Would he rather the other members of the tribe think he has no reason at all for destroying his shoes? In any case, Matthew assures us that he'll be a much happier person when his shoes are sawed in half. He'll also be a much happier person when the other members of the tribe are sawed in half, but he doesn't say that aloud. After watching him perplexedly, Christy tells us in an interview that she'll vote him off because she doesn't know what he's thinking. He gives her the creeps, and she doesn't know how much longer she can stand to be around him. Sadly, she does not offer a repeat performance of the "creepy" comments she expressed earlier.
Davey Rockett also tells us in an interview that he'll vote for Matt, because it's his only chance of staying in the game. He hopes that a few other people will join him so that they can amass the majority. We then see Davey Rockett approaching Alex with the proposition of throwing him a "sympathy vote." Alex matter-of-factly explains that Davey Rockett has two things working against him: his relationship with Roger, and the fact that he's a "bad-ass." In an interview, Alex tells us that he's voting for Davey Rockett because he'd rather not compete against him anymore. Sounds like Alex and Tonya Harding might have shared the same coach at some point in their lives.
Deena asks a squatting Jenna and Rob what HeiDDi's feelings are about voting out Davey Rockett, and Rob sour-grapes that when he went to bed the evening, the two were in "full embrace." Jenna adds, "Dave always embraces HeiDDi," although she's still not sure how HeiDDi feels about Dave "personally."
We then join Davey Rockett and HeiDDi, as he tells her that it's between him and Matt, and that he'd like to stay a few more days. HeiDDi would also like Davey Rockett to stay, and she thinks Deena agrees with that, too. Davey Rockett agrees that Deena agrees, and then HeiDDi agrees that Davey Rockett agrees that Deena agrees. There's a lot of agreement going on. HeiDDi thinks Davey Rockett has a 50/50 chance of being voted out, and she encourages him to look at it that way. And if that's the most positive thing she can come up with, he's really in trouble.
The tribe members shoulder up their belongings and head off with oars in hand toward Tribal Council. By the time they arrive, night has fallen, and we see the same backlit tarantula making its way down a branch in front of the fire. Peachy wears another blue shirt, but it's not as pretty as the one he wore last week. The deeper blue brings out his eyes much better. He welcomes them and then immediately directs the conversation to how people are fitting into the group. He calls out Matthew for admitting in the past that he was an outcast, who insists that things have completely changed because since the merger people have been more interested in what he has to say. As Rob cracks up, Matthew continues that he has made some true friends and genuine relationships. Peachy doesn't let Rob off the hook, and calls him out for making "a lot of facial expressions during that answer." Rob lies that he's just happy with "Matthew's progress," because Matthew used to be "secluded" and kept to himself, but has since become an invaluable part of the tribe. Matthew looks quite pleased by Rob's flattery.
, Peachy asks HeiDDi to talk about the unusual nature of the immunity challenge, which he explains was designed to show people their tribal standing. HeiDDi giggles her amusement over the fact that the four women were left at the end, and says she didn't expect it to happen like that. She points out that the men essentially eliminated themselves instead of working against the girls.
Peachy then returns to Matthew, pointing out that as the first to go, "It's gotta tell you somethin' about what people are thinkin' about you." Matthew responds that although he wasn't happy about the situation, that's just the way it turned out.
Peachy points out that Davey Rockett was also taken out early, and Davey Rockett responds that because the game has turned individual, he's now viewed as a threat. He acknowledges the precariousness of his position and knows that his name will come up tonight. Still, he hopes he won't get the majority vote because he's looking forward to spending more time with the group.
Peachy asks Deena if such a "heartfelt" plea could sway predetermined minds, and Deena responds that if she's learned anything during her lifetime, it's that "human emotion can be dictated by human sentiment." Considering that the definition of sentiment is "a thought, view, or attitude, especially one based mainly on emotion instead of reason," that would be inherently true. In any case, Deena insists that people in the group may have made promises despite their uncertainties that they may find themselves unable to keep.
Peachy asks Jenna whether she's comfortable enough within the tribe to offer up her immunity for something in exchange, but Jenna can't think of a worthwhile trade. She concludes, "It's mine and I'm gonna keep it."
Peachy points out that for the first time in the game, they're not just voting people out. Instead, they're voting people out who will return to sit on the jury and decide who will win the million dollars. And the voting begins!
Matt votes for Davey Rockett, insisting that although he's a great guy and enjoyable company, "his time has come."
We don't see Rob's vote, but I can make out Davey Rockett's name as Rob folds the paper up and places it in the urn.
Davey Rockett votes for Matt as expected. He points out that they've been honest with each other since the first day of the game, and thinks it's interesting now that they're both perceived as "powerhouses." Still, he hopes it's Matt's turn and not his own, insisting that it's nothing personal. There's a lot of random, unexplained whispering in this episode.
Although we don't see HeiDDi's vote, we do hear that she has "total, total respect" for this person, who she thinks is playing the game hard and well, which is why he/she needs to go.
As Peachy returns from tallying the votes, we see Butch doing back stretches. Hee. Sometimes it seems like Butch is just some random guy having his vacation in the jungle who stumbled upon fifteen other people, and he's so nice that no one wants to hurt his feelings by informing him that they're actually in the middle of a game and asking him to leave. In any case, the first vote is for Davey Rockett, followed by a vote for Matt. In the end, the tribe would rather hold onto their serial killer than their killer competitor, and so Davey Rockett claims the remainder of the votes. He becomes the eight person voted out of the game, and the first member of the jury. Rob experiences sudden and random rapid eye movements.
The downtrodden Davey Rockett's torch is extinguished and he walks very slowly down the path away from the Tribal Council set. HeiDDi looks confused while Peachy lectures that it's a game about relationships, and with only fifteen days to go, they should be wondering whether their relationships are indeed genuine.
time on Survivor, a power struggle erupts between Deena and Alex and Butch and a piranha.
As the credits roll, we see that everyone, including Butch, voted against Davey Rockett. Davey Rockett wishes everyone the best and cites a "great Nepalese saying," meaning, "What to do?" He concludes that he's hungry and "it's food time." Someone get that cute boy a meal! And my phone number! (I know I'm a married woman, but is it wrong for me to want him just to scale trees in my back yard all day long?)
