Craving

This week's episode deals with the very serious issue of teenage girls and body image. It also gracefully handles the way in which societal pressure and images from the media create an unfulfillable and unattainable goal for some girls to be thin, and the cruelty that greets them when they cannot meet this goal, and...aw, hell -- forget all that. This episode is the tried-and-true episode that all supernatural shows will have at one time or another: The Succubus Episode. Only this time the succubus is actually a very nice girl who just wants to lose some weight for Lana Lang's big birthday bash (held at Lex Luthor's manor, no less). When she starts eating kryptonite-laced shakes, Young Jenny Craig loses the fat, but gains a ravenous appetite for all things edible, up to and including roadkill deer and, ultimately, Sneaky Pete. She sucks them dry of their cellulite, leaving them as skinny, emaciated husks. Still, it beats the Weight Watchers point system. Also, Clark tries to do something special for Lana's birthday, and ultimately succeeds, but not before standing her up yet again. Will evil never let Clark get some nookie? Finally, Lex tries to get to the bottom of his abnormally high white blood cell count. Even after he gets a clean bill of health, he still harasses a disgraced doctor into helping him solve the mystery of Smallville's many kryptonite-caused weirdos. And he drinks copiously from his phallic blu botol water bottles, and folks, that's all that really matters here.
