Brian's Song

Previously on The Real World: Steven liked having sex with Trishelle, but didn't want a relationship. Trishelle did, so they decided to stop having sex. Trishelle thought Steven made her look stupid. Did it really take Steven to do that?

Trishelle talks to her friend Brian on the phone and makes dinner plans. In an interview, Trishelle says that she met Brian the first month she was in Vegas (and they've been there...what, like eight months now?), and he's the only person she's invited to visit. Wait, if she met him in Vegas, doesn't he live there? So why does she have to invite him to visit? Brian tells Trishelle that he wants to have at least one night alone with her, and she agrees. She says that she and Steven were just talking about that, and they hang up. Trishelle runs and tells Steven what Brian said, and Steven encourages her to go on "a normal date" with Brian. Then there's a weird conversation where Trishelle accuses Steven of liking Brian too much or something and then insists that she's going to hook up with Brian and Steven is picking his feet which is kind of gross. In an interview, Steven says he just wants Trishelle to find someone who makes her happy, and that helping her do that makes him feel redeemed. What is this, Buffy with the redemption all of a sudden? In an interview, Trishelle says she feels like she should be going on more dates so that when she finally finds the guy for her, she will appreciate him.

Trishelle meets Brian in the casino. They hug and Brian gives her a single rose still in the cheap plastic wrapper from the grocery store or wherever he got it. Trishelle thanks him. Trishelle, Brian, Steven, and Gary (Steven's friend) eat lunch together. Gary asks Brian something about being from L.A. and how it makes you confident. Huh? Brian says he's from Huntington Beach, not L.A., but that he thinks going to four high schools in four years forced him to deal with different people. Somehow it comes up that Brian played volleyball in the Junior Olympics when he was younger. Trishelle says that Brian and Steven have a lot in common. Steven says that he went to a lot of high schools and also threw javelin in the Junior Olympics. In an interview, Trishelle says she compares other boys to Steven. Trishelle brings up another way in which the two men are similar. Steven seems to be enjoying this a lot. In an interview, Trishelle says that Brian doesn't know how to feel about her relationship with Steven, because he sees them joking and laughing together a lot. Steven says that he liked Brian even before he realized they were the same person. Because he's a narcissist.

Trishelle and Brian go to the Blue Note. In an interview, Trishelle says that she hasn't really met any guys in Vegas who were dating material, but she thinks Brian is sweet. Uh oh. "Sweet" is the kiss of death. Brian pulls the old "tying a knot in a cherry stem with his tongue" bit. It would be funny if Trishelle was like, "Oh, yeah? Watch this!" and then pulled a cherry stem out of her mouth that she had, like, knitted into a sweater. Heh. Trishelle voice-overs that Brian is "a great, great person" and that they are getting close really fast. We close in on the two of them holding hands. Ooh! Holding hands! An engagement ring can't be far behind!

In the morning, Arissa and Irulan get ready for work. In a confessional, Irulan says that she's happy they have to get up early for work, because it gives them direction so they don't just sleep all day. What, there's something wrong with sleeping all day? ["Seriously." -- Wing Chun] Arissa and Irulan walk downstairs in their bikini uniforms. Irulan teases Arissa about what kind of waitress she'll be. They walk right past a sign announcing that the pool is closed. They walk out to the pool and are surprised at how windy it is. They find another waitress wearing a black sweat suit, and wonder why they didn't get that uniform. The waitress says she'll go get Gina. Some other woman asks if they got her message, but they didn't. Gina walks up and tells them to go change into black sweatpants and sweatshirts and then come back. They walk back into the casino and laugh about how they were wearing bikinis and everyone else had sweats on.

Trishelle calls Gina. In an interview, Trishelle says she got the job for some extra money, but she knows her dad won't be proud. For being a cocktail waitress? Of all the things we've seen her do this season, she's most worried about her dad finding out she's a cocktail waitress? Trishelle says she can start training the day. In an interview, Trishelle says that at home, she's always working or going to school, so she'd like to do that in Vegas too. Gina tells Trishelle when to be there, and they hang up.

Irulan and Arissa get changed and make the walk to work again. Arissa talks about how great it will feel to crawl back into bed afterward. Gina instructs them to open some boxes and organize the contents. Arissa and Irulan do not look happy about that task. The boxes appear to contain tables and chairs, and they are very big. Whatever. It's one day. Normally, they'd be waitressing, but the pool is closed, so they have to earn their money somehow. Irulan voice-overs that they were "pretty miserable." They break down boxes and carry chairs around. Gina shows up and thanks them for their work. They take off. Wow, that was fascinating.

Brian and Trishelle go to a bar and do shots. In an interview, Trishelle says that she and Brian weren't hanging out very long before Brian said he wanted to date her exclusively, and she wishes he hadn't said that. Trishelle drunkenly slurs, "To be honest with you, I just feel like, okay, I like you, I think you're cool. But it's like, I mean, I can't tell you what's gonna happen, like, in the couple months." Was that even English? In an interview, Irulan says that Brian is "a great guy" and that she thinks Trishelle might end up dating him in the long run, but she thinks Trishelle and Steven have some unfinished business. Brian tells Trishelle that he likes her and he knows what her hang-ups are. Wuh? That seems almost rude, actually. Trishelle says he doesn't know her hang-ups, and seems kind of pissed. In an interview, Trishelle says that Brian is coming on too strong, too fast. Trishelle has a heart-to-heart with Arissa in the bathroom. Trishelle thinks that Brian is too good and nice and she's scared. Arissa says (again) that Brian is "a great guy." Is there a law that someone has to call Brian a great guy every two minutes? I wish they would throw in an interview with Brynn saying, "Brian's an asshole." ["Speaking of whom, is Brynn ever going to have more to do in an episode than talk about everyone else? Oh, wait: I forgot I don't care." -- Wing Chun]

Brian sleeps on Trishelle's shoulder in a cab. They get to the casino and Trishelle stomps inside, leaving Brian behind. They lie in bed together. Trishelle asks what time it is. Trishelle realizes that she's only going to get three hours of sleep. Rookie. I've taught college classes on way less than that. Of course, I was up late recapping, not drinking. Brian promises to push Trishelle out of bed if he has to. Trishelle says she hates it, but she needs someone to do that because she's starting work.

Steven washes his face in the bathroom. In an interview, Steven says that he's lonely and he'd like to have Trishelle in his bed, but instead she's with another guy. Trishelle and Brian make out. Steven runs in and hops in bed with Arissa, complaining that he can't sleep. Arissa says she can't either. In an interview, Steven says that knowing Brian and Trishelle are in the room makes him want to vomit. Brian and Trishelle continue to make out. In an interview, Irulan says that Steven is "bouncing off the walls." Steven says he's going to check his email. Steven voice-overs that he thought he just wanted to be friends with Trishelle, but he's only human. Of flesh and blood he's made. He's only human, born to make mistakes. Trishelle and Brian? Still making out. In an interview, Steven says he doesn't know if it means he loves Trishelle or what. Steven sits at the computer, probably checking out TWoP.

And now it's time for The Most Awesome Thing I Saw on TV Last Week. The most awesome thing I saw on TV last week was a television movie on Lifetime Movie Network called Dying to Belong. The movie opens with a scene of some girls kidnapping this other girl and then taking her out in the woods and throwing her out of the car and then she maybe gets hit by a truck and then there is a shot of a white rose with blood dripping on it so right away you know it's going to be awesome. So then Hilary Swank goes to college and has a roommate with blue hair, who was actually the coolest person in the movie. But then Hilary meets Six from Blossom in line to register so they decide to be roommates, and they just kick Blue Hair out, which was kind of shitty but maybe I'm just sensitive because the same thing happened to me my freshman year. So then Hilary and Six decide to rush a sorority and Hilary is a legacy so all of the girls in the sorority (including Second Becky from Roseanne and Tracy Middendorf, who I know as Carrie Brady from Days) love Hilary and ignore Six, and Hilary just walks off with them and leaves Six to stand there awkwardly and think about how she's gained, like, twenty pounds since Blossom ended and is forced to wear overalls in every scene. So then Hilary meets Zach from Saved by the Bell while working on the college paper, like could this movie have a more awesome cast? And you know they love each other because in every scene they have, the soundtrack is this cheesy remake of "Damn! I Wish I Was Your Lover," like, they couldn't even spring for Sophie B. Hawkins so you know it was low-budget. So then Hilary and Six get into the sorority and then there is hazing, which is such bullshit because who would brush the bathroom floor with their toothbrush just to hang out with Second Becky? And then Hilary gets pissed and walks out and the other girls encourage Six to hang this banner from the clock tower and Six totally takes a header and dies! And the girls pretend they had nothing to do with it, so of course Hilary and Zach try to uncover the truth but no one believes it and in the end they find the girl from the opening scene who was paid off by the school not to reveal that she nearly died in a hazing incident the year before and then Hilary tricks the sorority girls into confessing and the sorority is shut down. And there was a lot more to it but this segment is threatening to get longer than the rest of the recap. Rest assured that if you see this movie in the listings, it's worth watching because it is awesome.

The morning at 7:45 AM, Brian tries to get Trishelle to wake up to go to work. In an interview, Steven says that he's confused about his feelings for Trishelle, and that he wants Trishelle and Brian to leave. In an interview, Trishelle says she doesn't know what Brian's thinking, but she just thinks of him as a buddy. Trishelle walks to work and talks about how she's still drunk. In an interview, Trishelle says that she likes Brian but doesn't want to date him. Brian prepares to leave and Trishelle hugs and kisses him. In an interview, Trishelle says that Brian tried way too hard.

Trishelle and Steven are working at the poolside bar. Trishelle takes some orders. In an interview, Trishelle says that the job is okay, and not that hard. In an interview, Arissa says that she hates it because she has to be at people's beck and call. So maybe waitressing is not for her, huh? Trishelle voice-overs that she likes to flirt and talk to people, so the job is easy for her. In an interview, Irulan says she doesn't hate Trishelle for making more tips, because something about Trishelle appeals to the clientele more. Yeah, her boobs. Duh.

Upstairs, the girls compare how much they made in tips. Trishelle made more, and talks about the lengths she went to for tips. She says she flirted with "the fattest, ugliest old men." The girls say she should do whatever works. Frank says he always thinks the strippers really like him. Trishelle yells at him for comparing a cocktail waitress to a stripper, and admits that she hasn't told her father about it yet.

Trishelle talks to Steven while he bartends. In an interview, Trishelle says that Steven told her he felt sick when she was with Brian. Why not just show us that? I'd like to see what Steven said exactly, and how. In an interview, Trishelle says it makes her happy that Steven admitted his feelings for her. Trishelle and Arissa have a talk in the bathroom. Trishelle tells Arissa what Steven said about how he couldn't sleep. Arissa says that Steven came into her room. Trishelle says that Steven told her he has feelings for her. Trishelle says that men always want what they can't have, and she thinks Steven is only doing this because she was with Brian. In an interview, Arissa says it's great if Steven has feelings for Trishelle, but it's shitty if he's only doing it because she was with Brian. Arissa advises Trishelle not to get into the pattern of jealousy and Steven only liking her when he can't have her. In an interview, Trishelle says that she's waiting to see if Steven brings up his feelings again. Arissa advises Trishelle again not to play the game.

In an interview, Trishelle says that she and Steven are both very confused, and there's no telling what could happen. Then they stare at each other at the bar for, like, twenty minutes.

week: No, they're really moving out this time. Except not. I just found out for sure that this season is twenty-eight episodes long. Bitches. ["Jesus." -- Wing Chun] Steven and Trishelle hook up again. Irulan breaks up with Gabe, and Alton makes his move.
