Previously on The Real World: Kyle called his ex-girlfriend Nicole on September 11 to make sure that she was okay. In an interview, Kyle said that he was really glad that she was fine. In an interview, Keri said that she and Kyle were going to try to be just friends, and stop making out.
The montage that opens the show features couples walking down the street and kissing. Keri walks through the bathroom and declares that she hates blind dates because they make her feel like she's desperate. CJP assures Keri that she's not desperate. Keri says she knows, and that's why she doesn't go on blind dates. In an interview, CJP says that she's introducing Keri to new guys in an effort to get Keri over Kyle. Also, because CJP likes meddling. Kyle tickles Keri and jokes to Theo and Aneesa that Keri's blind date will be just like the show Blind Date, and that there will be a cartoon balloon over her head that says, "What a loser!" What would have been really funny is if the editors put that cartoon balloon up right now, but had it point to Kyle. Heh. Theo says that the balloon will say, "I wish I was with Kyle right now." Aneesa says that it will say, "I don't want to go out because I want to stay here with Kyle." Keri and Kyle continue to play grab-ass. In an interview, Keri says that she and Kyle are friends "with no privileges" right now.
The doorbell rings. Theo and Kyle check out CJP's and Keri's dates through the video monitor. Keri thinks that her date is balding and thirty. Kyle points to the guy on the monitor and calls him a loser. In an interview, the producers obviously asked Kyle if he's jealous of Keri's date, and Kyle responds, "I am jealous, not because Keri is going on a date, but just that...I'd like to be going out with somebody. I'd like to be going out with Nicole." That's why you never repeat the question when you're being interviewed on camera. Just a little PR trick from me to you. Theo, Kyle, and Aneesa get ready for the dates to come up to the loft. In an interview, Theo says that it's going to be interesting to see Kyle's reaction, because Kyle acts really different when Keri brings another guy around.
The two guys arrive in the loft. In an interview, CJP says that she met her date, Jason, at the gym, and that she thinks he's cute. She says that Keri doesn't think cute guys have cute friends, but CJP thinks that Jason might. We see CJP's date, Jason, and he kind of looks like a male model, if you go for that type. Keri's date, Matt, is not as handsome. He kind of looks like a low-rent James Spader. But I'm sure he's a nice guy. Actually, I have no idea if he's a nice guy or not, but I feel bad judging him solely on his looks. In an interview, Keri says that CJP and Jason are trying to be matchmakers, but that she's in the mood to meet new people, so it's fine.
Keri lies in bed while Kyle looks at her. He walks over to her bed and sits on the edge of the bed. He has his back to the camera, so you can't really see what's going on, but it looks like they are kissing. In an interview, Keri says that they agreed to be just friends, but that Kyle was the first person to cross the line again. Hey, it takes two to tango, honey. As Kyle stands up to leave, Keri is facing away from him, so I don't exactly get how they were kissing, but whatever. We're clearly meant to think that they were kissing.
Aneesa puts toilet paper down on the seat in the bathroom stall, for some reason. Couldn't she just clean it if she's concerned about germs? She lives there. Aneesa calls CJP into the stall and whispers that while she was on her date, she stopped to take a piss in an alley (as you do) and put her car keys on top of the car. And then her friend drove off, and she thinks that the car keys must have fallen to the ground. Why did she have the car keys if her friend was driving? I'm confused. Anyway, Aneesa is now going to go back to the pissing alley to try to find the keys.
Aneesa looks up locksmiths in the yellow pages. In an interview, Aneesa says that she needs to get all of the locks changed. Chris says it's ridiculous that Aneesa lost the keys. CJP sticks up for Aneesa, saying that keys are easy to lose. Especially when you spend a lot of time pissing in alleys. Aneesa explains her problem to a locksmith, who tells her that it will cost $145 per lock. CJP tells Chris that Aneesa will be responsible about it. Chris kind of doubts it, but CJP says Aneesa knows that if she's not, she'll face the wrath of her roommates. Aneesa hangs up the phone and announces that it's going to cost her $435; she doesn't have it.
Keri answers the phone in a funny voice, and Kyle doesn't recognize her. In an interview, Kyle says that his friend is having a party. Kyle tells Keri that he wants to know what she wants to do, because he wants to go to this party. Keri says that she's going to tag along. To me, it sounds like they had plans to do something together that night, before Kyle found out about the party. In an interview, Kyle says that he has a hard time telling Keri that she can't come and hang out with him, because he's a nice guy. I'm sure she would understand if he was honest with her. He's not being a "nice guy," because her feelings are going to end up getting hurt. He's being immature. Kyle sprays himself with cologne. Keri asks if he minds if she comes with him. Kyle says he doesn't, and that he wants someone to come with him.
Keri and Kyle head out to the party. In the cab, Kyle explains that there are going to be a lot of his high-school friends there, so she might have to fend for herself. Keri promises that she'll be fine. At the party, Keri seems to be doing just fine. She's talking to Kyle's friends while Kyle is on the other side of the room. In an interview, Keri says that Kyle's friends remind her of her friends from home, so she gets along with them well. Kyle talks to some girl up on a balcony. He says that he misses Nicole, and the girl says that Nicole and Kyle were really happy together. Kyle says that the situation with Keri is tough, and that the minute he leaves her at a party, she asks where he's going. Maybe because she doesn't know a soul there? We see Keri laughing and talking to some guys. In an interview, Kyle says that he cares about Keri, and doesn't want to sound callous, but that the longer he's there, the less he wants to hang out with her. We see Keri laughing and talking to some other guys, clearly not all that upset that Kyle isn't around. Kyle tells that random girl that he's getting kind of tired and misses Nicole, and that Keri hangs on him all the time, and Kyle thinks Keri's in love with him. Kyle claims that he didn't want Keri to come tonight. Keri walks out onto the balcony and yells up that Kyle's friend wants him to come down, then immediately walks back in the house. My take on this whole thing is that the girl Kyle is talking to is friends with Nicole, and Kyle is doing damage control so that she'll report back to Nicole that Kyle is really torn up over her, and the Keri thing is so not an issue. Because I haven't seen anything to corroborate what Kyle is saying here.
On the way home, Keri says that she had a good time. Kyle says that's the first time he's heard her say that in a while. Keri says that was the first time she's had a good time since she's been there. What was that all about? Weird scene.
At home, Kyle tells CJP that it was weird having to explain to all of his high-school friends that Keri wasn't his girlfriend. Couldn't they tell that by the fact that Keri was hanging out and flirting with other guys? I think Kyle wouldn't care so much if he didn't feel like they were all going to tell Nicole about Keri. CJP gives Kyle "Concerned Look #4," which involves pursing her lips and wrinkling her brow. In an interview, CJP says that she used to think Keri and Kyle's friendship was wonderful, but now she knows that it isn't going anywhere good. Kyle says that he wanted to be by himself last night, but that he's too nice a guy to tell Keri to stay home. Kyle seems very concerned about what kind of guy he is, instead of just being himself. CJP tells Kyle that she hears everything he's saying, but that he needs to tell Keri how he feels. I think CJP has been in a lot of therapy, because she talks like a therapist. Kyle promises that he will say something, and says he wants CJP's advice on how to say it.
Aneesa talks to her mom on the phone and asks for the money to get the locks changed. Aneesa's mom isn't going for it, and asks why her roommates aren't helping her pay for it. Aneesa says that it's her fault, so they won't pay. Aneesa's mom asks why she should pay. In an interview, Aneesa says that she's spoiled, and is used to her mom being a pushover. Haven't we seen that footage before? Aneesa says that she's stuck and needs her mother's help. Aneesa's mother says that Aneesa made a bad decision, and starts yelling that Aneesa needs to act like an adult. Aneesa cries and says that she's trying. Her mom says that Aneesa is not an adult if she was out peeing in an alley. Aneesa cries and says that she had to pee. Hee! Aneesa says that people make mistakes. Her mother says that when adults make mistakes, they pay for them. Yeah! Tough love! Go Aneesa's mom!
Later, Aneesa talks on the phone to her brother, who promises to help her fix the problem. Apparently, he works for a Volkswagen dealership, so he's going to get her a new key. When the new key is programmed, it erases the old key or something. ["It's a big pain. I've been there." -- Wing Chun] Her brother promises to FedEx her the key and says that they'll be able to use the key tomorrow. Aneesa complains that everyone will be mad at her about the delay, and also that she has to pay $150. Her brother says that she's lucky it doesn't cost more, and that she needs to deal with it. Word, Aneesa's brother. In an interview, Aneesa says that she needs to grow up and take responsibility for her actions. Word to the third.
Keri opens an envelope and pulls out the new keys. In an interview, Theo says that Aneesa took care of the key situation, which surprised everyone, because normally Aneesa is not that responsible. Keri takes the car to go get some food. Aneesa arrives home, and CJP makes a big deal out of the fact that Keri took the car to go get food. I can't believe they are having an entire episode where the big plot is that Aneesa lost the car keys. Good Lord.
Kyle listens to his voicemail messages. There's one from Nicole, who is at some sort of memorial service. The message begins with a bunch of people singing the American national anthem and cheering. Nicole says that she wanted to share the experience, and she describes the scene as the crowd starts singing "God Bless America". Kyle cries a few tears. In an interview, Kyle says that September 11 made him realize who and what is important to him. Kyle listens to the message again and cries some more.
Kyle sits on Keri's bed and says that he cares about her, and that's why he's been supportive of her going out with other guys. He has? He wishes that she could find someone who gives her what she needs and deserves, because he can't be that person. In an interview, Kyle says that he realized he didn't want to be involved with Keri, so he pushed her away suddenly. Keri tells Kyle not to be a dick about it. Keri says that she thought Kyle was being nice to her in order to establish a friendship, not out of pity. Kyle says that it wasn't out of pity, and that she shouldn't put words in his mouth. Then Kyle rubs his eyes for ten minutes while Keri stares at him and music plays. In an interview, Keri says that their relationship is over, and now it's up to Kyle whether they will be friends. In an interview, Kyle says that he's happy the fling is over, and that he stayed committed to his ideals. Whatever helps him sleep at night.
Keri tells CJP and Chris that Kyle basically said he's done pitying her. Keri knows that Kyle talked to Nicole and then came and talked to Keri. Chris doesn't think that's right. Keri says that Kyle is using her, because he only wants her around when Nicole has rejected him. In an interview, Keri says that when Kyle had an inkling that he might get back together with Nicole, he dropped Keri like a hot potato. Well, I added the "hot potato" part. Keri says that when it seems like she might move away from him, he gets close to her. Keri claims that every night when she comes home, Kyle comes into her bed and makes out with her. In an interview, Chris says that he sees all sides of the situation: that Kyle hooks up with Keri, but doesn't want to get involved, and that Keri is kind of clingy but also pushes Kyle away. In an interview, CJP says that Keri is getting over Kyle, but she doesn't know who to believe and doesn't want to choose sides. Keri claims that she has over thirty letters from Kyle talking about his feelings, but she kept it private until now. In an interview, Keri says that she's not going to let this bring her down, and that she's going to "paint this town red." Chris doesn't know what to say. CJP thinks they should just keep going out and having fun. Keri thinks so, too.
That night, the girls get gussied up to go out. Tonya has cheesy curly blonde hair and a leopard-print top. She could not look more white trash. Keri says that she needs a man, and not a mangina. Heh. Macy Gray sings about a sexual revolution as Keri dances the night away at a bar. In an interview, CJP says that Keri does really well with guys. Keri finds one guy in particular -- an Antonio Sabato Jr. lookalike. She kisses him and brings him home, and then makes out with him in the weird room with a window for a door. As Keri shows the guy to the door, Kyle watches and looks perturbed. After the guy leaves, Theo tells Keri that he's happy for her. Kyle goes to bed alone.
