We open in the hospital. Treat gets ready to operate on Rose as Natalie Merchant's "Beloved Wife" plays in the...foreground? Good enough. Treat looks at Rose, knocked out on the table, for a minute before he gets started. Fade to Patch, Bright, and Amy in the waiting room. Patch catches Bright's eye, and Bright gives his dad a wistful little smile. Also, adorable. Cut back briefly to the operating room, where Treat tells the tumor it's about to have a very bad day. Amy asks Patch if he needs anything; he answers, "Just a moment alone," and gets up. Patch walks dazedly through the busy hospital halls and finally slams into a bathroom for some peace. The song picks up here and we see Patch from an overhead angle. He picks a stall and sits down, opening the changing table to form a little makeshift altar. "If you don't mind, Lord...a word," he begins. "I know you're bottomless and infinite and the problems of individual souls are quite beyond your purview, but...I don't ask for favors, only the strength to do right, or the wisdom to make good choices. I never ask you for anything for myself. Well, I am today." We cut to Treat in surgery, and Patch pleads for God to guide his hands, to guide whatever cells in Rose's body have to fight or die for her to heal. "I'm asking you, God. Fix this. Make her better. I offer you no promises, no trades, bartering my years for hers...I'm just asking. Cast stones at me for my impudence; cast a boulder, I don't care. You fix this." The song picks up again, this time on the line about being alone without one's beloved wife, and I'm having a hard time thinking of a way to describe how powerful it is. You'll just have to trust me, man. Natalie keeps singing as we pull away from Patch, and...credits.
We come back to Nina and Dimples surrounded by boxes. Sam is jumping wildly on the couch, an act which would have called for a slapdown in my day. Sam asks if he can sleep on top of Dimples's gigantic TV. Nina says she doesn't remember seeing the TV at his old place. Dimples explains that he finally had his L.A. stuff shipped to Everwood, specifically, to Nina's house. Nina's like, "This, plus the stuff from your house here, which hasn't even arrived yet? Grrreat." Dimples tells her that anything she doesn't like? Gone. Except the blender, with which he will make her the world's best margaritas. Nina assures him that his stuff is a billion times nicer than hers, which means that everything of his stays. "If I lose my Cuisinart from 1982, well...so be it." Hee. Nina proposes ice cream for everyone, but Dimples commands her to go upstairs and take a bath, and by the time she comes down, there will be at least five feet of walking space in her living room. Aw. Dimples turns to Sam, who has wrapped a lambskin rug around himself like a shawl. "You like that rug, do you?" Sam says he does, and he's naming him Franz. Dimples considers this, and declares it a good name.
Meanwhile, Nina is upstairs in the bathroom. She glances over at a box filled with Dimples's toiletries, and idly picks up a medicine bottle. The look on her face tells us that it ain't filled with aspirin.
"Medical Center." Bright and Amy are having lunch with Hannah and Topher in the hospital cafeteria. Hannah offers Bright her pudding top. Aw! Brighton loves his pudding! Bright takes it enthusiastically, and comments, "Butterscotch. Interesting choice." Hannah is pleased with herself. Topher offers his vanilla top a little too eagerly, and flings pudding all over Hannah in the process. Bright gets this hilariously disgusted look on his face, all, "No thanks." Hannah asks Amy about the housing thing at Princeton. Amy says she has all the brochures, but hasn't looked at them. "It all just seems so..." "Totally," Topher agrees. This earns Topher another look from Bright, who gets up to get another drink. Amy follows him, and asks if he's okay, and if it's Mom. Bright answers quickly, "Yep. It's Mom." Amy's like, "It's not Mom, you're being weird." Bright insists that it's nothing, then says he feels the hospital guest list should be limited to family and best friends of family -- not boyfriends of best friends of family. Amy: "What, you don't like Topher?" Bright: "Shasta McSpastic? Uh...no." HEE. Amy says he's completely harmless. "Unless..." she finally gets, "do you like...?" Bright protests a little too much. Amy gets all excited. "You like Hannah!" Bright: "I will smother you with my bare ass cheeks if you say a word." Amy says Bright has to tell her. Bright says he can't; she has a boyfriend already. Amy's like, "Yeah, so?" Bright says Hannah's finally happy, and he can't mess that up. Amy can't believe this, and points out the irony in Bright's finally being a good enough person to deserve Hannah -- and now he can't have her. Bright gives her a look. "Or it's just sad. Really sad."
Treat and Patch have just pulled up at the same time in the hospital parking lot. Treat says it's just like old times, when he'd pull into Patch's space pretending it was accidental, then Patch would make disparaging remarks about his lineage. Patch tells Treat he doesn't get to be cute with him -- not anymore. Treat was hoping they wouldn't have to do this. Patch thinks they do. Treat says Rose came to him and asked him to do the surgery, what was he supposed to do? Patch: "I wanted you to say 'No.' Tell her the truth...you haven't scrubbed up in a year, and the risk of spinal cord damage was too great." Treat says he understands Patch's anger, but he needs to go check on a patient now. Ooh. Patch follows Treat, saying she should have never been his patient in the first place, and should have let that other surgeon -- the one with the Andy Brown-sized chip on his shoulder -- do what he came to do, instead of feeding his own huge ego. Treat says he never would have done the surgery if he didn't think he could do the job. "I did the best that I could." Patch: "She needed more than that! She needed the best anyone could do, but you couldn't bear that that wasn't you anymore." Treat suggests they just go in and check on Rose, see how she's doing today. Patch isn't finished. He asks Treat what he's even doing in Everwood, since he moved there to give up on the glory of surgery and find meaning. "You swaddled yourself in flannel and denim, professed yourself a changed man. So explain to me how you keep ending up with a scalpel in your hand." Patch says some other stuff about how Treat has failed at everything he's tried to do in Everwood, including having no family, driving his son away, and thinking the town would save him when no town could do that. With each accusation, Treat looks more and more like he agrees with every word that comes out of Patch's mouth. I sort of do, too, but it still feels awful for Treat. Patch finishes yelling and turns to walk inside. Treat answers a call on his cell, then stops Patch. "Harold. That was Dr. Chao. Rose is awake." Commercials.
Abbott House. Amy is gathering some things for her parents to have at the hospital, and chatting with Hannah. She says Rose moved her big toe today, which was really big. Hannah says it's huge, and thinks the worst must be over. Amy says it's still going to be a long healing process, and the second round of chemo is supposed to be worse than the first, but today was better than yesterday, so she'll take it. And, she adds, Hannah really doesn't have to come with them to the hospital today -- she only has a small amount of time left before she leaves for Minnesota, and she really should spend it with Topher. Hannah says she'd rather go with Amy. Amy's like, "You'd rather spend a day at the hospital with my family than make out with Topher." Hannah: "I'd rather spend a day getting my underarms waxed than make out with Topher." Ouch, in more than one sense of the word. Amy asks Hannah what the hell is going on. Hannah wonders if there shouldn't be more: she loves talking to him on the phone, and his emails make her laugh, but when they hang out in person... "There's no heat?" Amy finishes. Hannah says it's, uh, warm. Amy asks if she never gets the urge to get all sweaty with him. Hannah: "Are you supposed to want to get all sweaty?" Amy says you're supposed to at least miss him every moment that she's not with him, at least at this stage of the relationship. Hannah counters that maybe she and Topher are just milder than that. "So you're a crappy salsa couple?" Amy asks. Hannah argues that mild salsa is not crappy, and a lot easier on the digestive system for one thing. Heh. Amy says yes, but you want a little fear mixed in with every bite, a little something spicy to get it going. Hannah says the salsa analogy is freaking her out a little, so they should stop talking about it. Amy: "You need to break up with him." Yay! I love it when Amy meddles all up in people's business. She tells Hannah that this is not how relationships are supposed to go: kissing is supposed to be the greatest thing in her life right now, not something she dreads. Hannah says it's taken her long enough to find somebody, and she's not going to throw him away because they're not sweaty or spicy or whatever. "It might not be perfect, but it's nice." Amy hints around that there might be somebody out there better than just nice. Hannah says there isn't, and changes the subject. "We should go. Your mom is probably waiting for us."
Brown House. Treat walks in to find Nina waiting on his back porch. She's holding the bottle of pills in her hand, but hides it behind her back when she sees Treat. He asks her what's going on. Nina: "Oh, nothing, just hiding in your kitchen. How is she?" Treat looks confused, but soldiers on, and says Rose is doing well, actually. Nina says of course she is; Treat was driving. Treat asks Nin
a if she wants to tell him what she's hiding from. Nina complains that there's a strange man in her house with lots of boxes, and it's real scary. Treat says he thought Dimples moving in was a good thing. Nina's like, "Yeah, it's great. Got any scotch?" Hee. Treat pours them each a glass, and Nina asks Treat if he knows anything about Percocet. "I know you shouldn't be mixing them with scotch," he quips. Nina pulls out the bottle, and says she found them in Dimples's stuff. She says she doesn't know what he's taking them for. Treat takes a look at the bottle and says, "Oh, I see. The lady who's boozing in the middle of the day is worried about the guy taking the low-dose painkillers." He says there are lots of reasons Dimples could be taking these: he could have fallen off a chair lift and herniated a disc, or gotten hit in traffic in L.A. "Or maybe he has a problem with prescription medication?" Nina says. Treat suggests that Nina just ask Dimples. Nina says it's kind of a touchy subject. Treat's like, "What? Since when do you care? I can't get you to stop asking me personal questions." Nina says it's not the same as with her and Treat; she and Dimples talk, but they don't have "this." Treat reminds Nina that Dimples is moving in with her, and she should be able to ask him about everything. Treat then says that, in the interest of "this," he should tell her that he might be taking a job offer. In Chicago. Nina, who suddenly looks on the verge of tears, remarks that that's a hell of a commute from Everwood. Treat says it might not even happen, but he doesn't know what he's still doing here since everything he came for is a disaster. "The truth is, there's really nothing left for me here, is there?" Nina says she can't answer that. Treat holds up his glass. "Salut." Nina echoes him, and they throw back a shot. Speaking of which...waiter!Hannah and Topher have just finished dinner in downtown Everwood. They stand on the sidewalk chatting, and Topher gives her another awful kiss. Hannah can't take it anymore: "Out of curiosity, how would you rate that kiss? I know I could have tilted my head more to the left...I'd give my performance on that kiss a 2 -- 3 tops." Topher tells her she's crazy. Hannah says they should be honest with each other, because if they aren't, how can they ever improve? Topher: "How can you improve on perfection?" Oh, Topher. You're so gone. Hannah tells her soon-to-be ex that she doesn't think they've reached perfection with anything. Topher is astounded. He doesn't see how things could get better, and when they kiss? Time stops. Hannah gently tells Topher that she doesn't feel the same way as he does. "I thought we were on the same page, but now I'm thinking maybe we're not." Topher asks where she is. Hannah says she's maybe on chapter one, and she's definitely read the foreword, but she's pretty sure she won't finish the whole book. She tells Topher she's so sorry. Topher looks very sad, and asks if they can go to the car now. See ya, Topher.
Abbott/Brown Office. Patch knocks on Treat's door and asks if he can come in. Treat: "I don't know. Are you gonna hit me?" Hee. Patch apologizes for his careless words. Treat says what he said was true -- maybe not all of it, but the majority. He tells Patch that he's strongly considering a job offer in Chicago, adding that he'd transfer the practice and their lease over to Patch. Patch is like, "Whoa, wait. You can't leave." Treat says he misses being a surgeon; he's good at it, and sometimes it's the only thing in his life that makes sense. "I gave it up, and I'm just as alone as I was when Julia died." Patch demands that Treat forget everything he said. "In fact, forget everything you've heard issue from my mouth in the last three years." Aw. Treat can't forget his track record, though. "I've ruined your life a dozen times over; lost Colin; shattered the Harts; destroyed my relationship with my son; blinded a reverend; drove your sister back to Africa; had an affair with a stroke victim's wife..." ["I'd forgotten all about Rinda until he mentioned her." -- Sars] Patch doesn't care about any of this; he wants Treat to be absolutely sure. Treat says there's one more person he needs to talk to, but yes, he's sure. Patch asks if there's anything he can do. Treat nods. "Let it go." They look at one another so pitifully it just about puts me over the edge. Luckily, I have an excellent waiter. Commercials.
Back at the Abbotts', Patch stops Amy on her way out the door. Amy says whatever he wants can wait; she's on summer hours. Patch orders her to fill out the housing application he's holding, if she doesn't want her first dorm to be her car. Amy asks her dad not to be upset, but... Patch won't hear it. "NO." Amy says she is only talking about deferring, just for a year. Patch says it's out of the question. Amy wants him to think about it: Rose is still going to need help, and it's not fair to ask Bright to wait another year. Patch tells her she's right, and he would never ask either of his children to do something he could do perfectly well on his own. "Children are the responsibility of the parents, not the other way around." Amy says she'll remember that when he's ninety. Hee. Patch says he wants the application on his desk, completed, by the morning. Amy's like, "God, FINE." Patch is happy again, and resumes his paperwork.
Brown House. Treat wanders around his house, which is impeccably clean, and by the way, Berlanti needs to send MY ass a maid, I mean really, is that too much to ask after three seasons? He opens Ephram's door and looks around the empty room, then heads over to Delia's to see if she's got a minute. She does, but not before she tells him how cool her new crush is. "Ethan thinks I should bring bug spray with me to camp. He also thinks I should bring twenty packs of gum. He says gum at camp is like cigarettes in prison. Isn't he funny?" Treat: "Hilarious." Just wait, because it won't be too hilarious when Ethan's trying to get to second base with your baby, now will it? Treat says he's been thinking about something, and wanted to see how she felt. He explains that he's been pretty unhappy lately, and isn't sure if Everwood is the best place for him right now. Delia: "You want to move?" Treat says part of him does, yes. Delia asks what they would do, and Treat tells her about Chicago. Delia asks what she gets if she says yes. Treat says it won't work that way this time, and there will be no promises of horses; they're going to take a vote, and that will be it. Delia points out that there are only two people voting, and what if it's one to one? Treat says in that case, they'll stay right where they are, because her vote is bigger. Delia says that's not very fair, and besides, what if Ephram comes back? Treat says Ephram can live with them in their new house, but she doesn't have to make a decision right now. Delia: "No. I think I've decided. I think you should pick." Treat's like, "What? Me?" Delia tells him that she trusts him. Treat wants her to be sure, because he's not known around this house for making good calls. Delia replies, "Ephram trusts you more than he says. He may not say it to you, but he does. Just let me know as soon as you can, 'cause if we're leaving I should tell Ethan I like him." Treat's expression is a mixture of heartbreak and elation, by which I mean "awesome." He tells Delia that those things should never wait. Hey, Doctor: heal thyself!
Hannah sits on Amy's bed and tells about how sad Topher looked when she broke up with him. Amy: "Like you shot his puppy?" Heh. Hannah says it's exactly like that. Bright comes to Amy's door and interrupts, "What was so horrible?" Amy gives Bright a meaningful look, and tells him that Hannah and Topher broke up. Hannah adds, "I'm a puppy killer!" and buries her head in a pillow. Amy gives Bright a "talk to her" look. Bright raises an eyebrow all, "NOW?" Amy gives him another look, like, "Yes, fool." Bright chickens out and walks off. Amy t

ells Hannah she's going to get her some ice cream, and catches up with Bright. "Where are you GOING?" Bright says he's going to the damn kitchen. Amy asks why he isn't up there with Hannah, making her feel better and telling her he's in love with her. Bright says first of all, he doesn't love her, and secondly, he doesn't know how he feels at all. Amy doesn't know what he's talking about. Bright, rummaging in the refrigerator for sandwich products, says he doesn't either: maybe he likes her, maybe it's gas. Heh. Amy pushes him, hard. "You are so lame! NOW you don't know how you feel? Now that it's actually possible, and you don't know." Bright holds up a tomato: "The heart's a complicated little organ." Amy says she never knew what a coward he was. Bright invites Amy to bite him. Amy can't believe he is so freaked out by the possibility of something real that he's going to ruin the best thing that ever happened to him. "I feel sad for you, Bright. I really do." Bright goes on making his sandwich, pondering how he just got told by his stupid little sister.Nina's. Dimples pushes a bunch of buttons on his remote control, curses, then throws the thing across the room. Nina comes in and asks him if he just threw that. Dimples says he's pushed every friggin' button on the thing, and still can't get the DVD player to work. Nina thinks maybe it's not plugged in right. Dimples: "Nina, give me a break." He says he'll figure it out, and storms out the door. Nina's like, "Dude, I was just asking. What's your problem?" Dimples says he could ask the same of her; he knows something's bothering her, he just doesn't know what it is, and right now he doesn't have time to charm it out of her. Nina says she knows it's stressful. Dimples says what's adding to his stress level is the prospect of moving in with someone who can't be honest with him -- or maybe she can, but only by being passive-aggressive. "So why don't you just tell me what it is, and we'll deal with it." Nina doesn't waste any time: "I found your Percocet. It freaked me out." Dimples starts to laugh, and explains that he twisted his ankle skiing last winter, and his partner prescribed him some painkillers. Nina: "You took Percocet for a twisted ankle." Dimples says he sure did, and now the secret's out that he's a big baby when it comes to pain. Nina is visibly relieved, and Dimples tells her she should have just asked. Nina knows, she says, it's just all the stuff that happened before. Dimples assures her that just because he was doling out prescriptions to other people doesn't mean he was taking them himself. "You just got to talk to me. Otherwise, look how much time we waste." Nina agrees, and Dimples goes off to run some errands. Nina is left standing there with a "Silly old me!" look on her face.
Patch pulls up to Treat in their usual parking spots. "You planned that," Treat says accusingly. Patch is all, "Who, me?" Treat says he saw him waiting. Patch: "I know you've always enjoyed our morning repartee. I've prepared a few insults if you'd like to hear them." Aw. Treat says he's not dying; they can always email. When they walk into their office, it's the surprise party of the year. A banner reading "We [heart] you, Andy Brown!" is hung above the heads of the partygoers, who are mostly old MEOWs, plus Irv and Edna. They're all clapping and whooping it up, until Treat freaks shit and hauls ass out the door. Patch follows him, and we go to commercials.
We come back to Patch chasing Treat down the street. He tries to explain that he just wanted the people to have a chance to stop him from leaving, or at the very least to say thank you. Treat tells him he shouldn't have wasted his time. Patch implores Treat to give them a chance. "Those people owe you their lives, some of them. They wrote speeches!" Treat thanks him, but goes to get in his car anyway. Patch is all, "Fine, leave," then slams Treat's car door shut. "Don't leave, until you get to hear the truth. You're supposed to say, 'What truth.'" Treat: "What truth." Hee. Patch tells him that he is hardly the failure that he makes himself out to be, and right there is a train station full of people who agree. He hits Treat with his best shot: "Truth be told, I owe you for more than what you did for Rose. For better or for worse, probably the latter, you're my best friend. I'm a better person for having you in my life...and ruining it. Andy, just hear them out." Treat can't refuse that kind of performance.
Back at the party, the MEOW who had the affair is telling another partygoer how awesome Dr. Brown is. The woman tells him that her son was having sex at the age of twelve. "Nice!," Affair Guy replies. "I mean, that's rough. So, you want to go get a drink after this?" Heh. Another guest says she had a four-inch metal rail stuck through her gut. Patch busts in with Treat, explaining that the sensitive doctor was just a little overwhelmed, and now would be a great time to tell him how much he means to Everwood. No one steps up. Patch starts calling on people. "Go ahead, Daniel! Don't be shy!" Daniel, who you probably know as Grizzly Adams, pulls out a speech. "I'd never have given my brother a kidney if you hadn't forced me. And you fixed my bear." Affair Guy steps up. "Hey, Doc. Just wanted to say that was awesome the way you lied to my wife for me. She took off after that stripper showed up pregnant, but you bought us like six months." AWESOME. Treat looks "thankful" for this "praise." Irv pipes up for Treat to do them proud in the Windy City. Patch says this isn't necessarily goodbye, no way! Edna insists that Treat will see this bad idea through. Poor Patch. Treat says he'll be in his office, but opens the door to find Daniel's bear waiting for him. He shuts the door angrily, and thanks everyone for coming, he'll certainly take everything they've said into consideration, but it's time for this lovefest to end. Stuttering MEOW takes this opportunity to "r-r-read his sp-sp-speech." Treat tells him to fax it. Hee. Edna tells Treat he might want to wait a sec. He turns, and Bright is wheeling Rose in. Treat tells her she shouldn't be out of bed. Rose: "I think I've had enough of doctors telling me what to do." She holds out her hand, pulls Treat in close, and says carefully, "You are not going anywhere, is that understood?" Treat nods. "Good. Now, take me home," she tells Bright.
Hannah carries her bags out to Nina's front walk. Topher, who must be the dumbest ever, bounds up, all, "Ready to go?" Hannah asks where they're going, exactly. Topher says he's taking her to the airport. Sigh. Hannah has to explain to Topher, AGAIN, that she broke up with him. Of course, he didn't realize that when it happened the first time, so now he's all heartbroken. Hannah gives him an apologetic look, and Topher says he'll just be going. Meanwhile, Bright has pulled up and walks over. "What was that about?" Hannah says she broke up with Topher, for the second time, and asks what he's doing there. Bright hands her a sweater, his excuse for coming over. Hannah tells him he doesn't have to be embarrassed; it's okay if he wants to come over and say goodbye. Bright doesn't know what else to do, so he offers to take Hannah to the airport. Hannah says Nina's taking her, but thanks. Bright's like, "Okay, then. Goodbye, Hannah." He shakes her hand formally. Hannah, a little confused, tells him goodbye as well. Bright starts walking off, then stops himself. "Argh! No, wait. I didn't come here just to say goodbye to you." He gets up close to her, and asks if she remembers how when they first met and she said she liked him, it was weird, but then they started hanging out, and became friends. "And you got hot. I'm not talking about, like, the take-your-glasses-off kind of way, I'm talking...really..." Hannah doesn't know whether to shit or go blind. Bright tries to explain himself some more, then just makes this little noise of exasperation and pulls her in for a kiss. And it is good. They stop long enough for Ha

nnah to exclaim, "I feel sweaty!" Bright just laughs and goes in for more. Perfect.Abbotts'. Amy checks in on Rose, who looks like death warmed up, over, besides, under, against, through, and all the other prepositions I forgot. She closes the door to her parents' bedroom, sees her Princeton housing application on a table, and tosses it in the trash. Patch catches her, and waits for an explanation. "I can't go," she says, and asks Patch to just hear her out. She tells him she's had just about the worst high school experience anyone could ever have. Patch says that's exactly why she deserves to go off to college and have a magnificent time. Amy says she will, when the time is right. "Do you know what got me through the past few years, through Colin, and Tommy, and everything?" Patch answers, "Zoloft, as I recall?" Hee. Amy says no, it was her family: him, and Rose, and Bright. And now her mom needs her, and she couldn't forgive herself if she weren't there, every step of the way. Patch waits a beat and tells her, "You know what? I trust you." He walks away, and Amy smiles to no one in particular.
Hey, Delia's at camp! A counselor calls her over and hands her the phone. It's Treat, who asks her how camp is. Delia says excitedly, "I haven't even showered yet! We're having this contest to see who can go the longest." Treat tells Delia, without a hint of sarcasm, that he's proud of her. He asks her, just out of curiosity, how she'd feel if they stayed in Everwood. Delia screams an affirmative scream that would wake the dead. Treat says she should have said something if she felt that strongly about it. Delia tells him she just knows he never wants to do anything unless he thinks it's his idea. Aw. But it's even better now, Delia says, because she told Ethan she likes him, and he likes her back, and now they can go out year! Treat tells her it was brave of her to tell him. Delia: "I know. Bravery rocks. You should definitely try it sometime." Treat catches sight of Nina through his kitchen window and says, "Yeah, maybe I will." Delia says she's got to go. Treat hangs up the phone and books it over to Nina's house.
"Hey," Treat calls. Nina apologizes for missing the great intervention, but she was taking Hannah to the airport. "So what's the verdict? Did the good people convince you or not?" Treat: "Not exactly, but I've decided to stay." Nina practically hugs him to death, thanking God and saying she was going to be supportive if she had to, but now she's so glad she doesn't have to. She asks him what did it: the mountain air, or the cost of living, or Patch's antics. Treat says it was a little bit of everything; when he first got here, he thought it was for his kids, but now the town and the people in it have become like an extended family. "And since old habits die hard," he continues, "I've taken the ones I cared about most for granted. I've taken you for granted, Nina." Nina tells him he hasn't. Treat says he has, and in the process, he missed it. "I missed our moment. We had one, didn't we?" Nina pretends she doesn't know what he means. Treat tells her she does, too; this thing they have, it's more than just a friendship, it's something that's carried him through the past few years, and he didn't even know it before now. "Didn't...know what?" Nina asks tentatively. "That it's you," Treat answers. "It's always been you. You were the one who's been there for me, and for my kids. When I first came here, you took me into your home; you took me into your heart, and helped me to heal mine. You did that." He takes her by the shoulders, and says that the life she told him he deserved to have, he can't have without her. Nina doesn't know what to say, and settles on, "You're a little late. Jake is here." Treat says he knows, and he knows she has feelings for Jake -- and that they may be stronger than the ones she has for him. "Are they?" Nina says she doesn't know. She starts to ask him how he even knew she had feelings for him, but Treat doesn't want to hear it. He goes in for the kiss. In Nina's front yard. Nice. In Treat's defense, Nina doesn't exactly push him away. When they're done, Treat says he can't tell anymore if what he's doing is brave or selfish, but he knows one thing for certain: "You would be the greatest choice I could ever make, and if you choose me back I know I could make you happy. If you let me." Nina doesn't get to respond, because just then Dimples pulls up. "Honey," he announces, "I'm home." Lord. Dimples kisses Nina hello, then goes to his car to start unloading boxes. Nina and Treat are left facing each other on the sidewalk, exchanging awkward looks. The camera pulls back to get the whole love triangle in the frame, and we fade out.
I can't believe it's the end of the third season. They grow up so fast, don't they? Thanks for a great year, everyone. Yes, even you, Berlanti.
