And They Lived Stabbily Ever After

Dexter tells Harrison thinly veiled stories about his killing pastime, disguised as fairy tales. Colin Hanks and Edward James Olmos keep talking about something starting. They are both very creepy. They argue about Colin, saying he’s going to be late for their meeting the day, and then he drops mannequin parts out of a trash bag. After he’s gone, EJO picks up a mannequin head that already suspiciously looks like Deb’s head. Also, she’s the first person you see in the scene!

Deb wakes to Quinn making breakfast. He put the ring in the fridge. She freaks out and he tells her that he loves her. She says she needs time to think, then goes to tell Dexter how effed to eff everything effing is. She doesn’t feel ready to marry Quinn, but doesn’t want to end things. Someone filmed Deb jumping to action at the restaurant and she’s an Internet sensation.

The department is after the snake-gut killer. They think it’s religious in nature, but Dexter seems to intuit that it’s a person in the brotherhood of compulsive serial killers. Also, Dex lays eyes on Brother Sam, played by AWESOME Mos Def, an ex-con turned minister, though a lot of people are doubting the ex in ex-con, Dex included. Laguerta tries to pressure Matthews to appoint Angel to her old position, but we see him fixated on Deb’s YouTube spot.

Angel questions Brother Sam about the death of the roadside fruit stand guy. Dexter had planned on killing Sam for killing a burglary victim, but he got arrested first. Matthews calls Deb in and compares her to her father, then appoints her Lieutenant. Fuck Balls. That’s her response. And ours! Yay, Deb! She goes to Dexter and freaks out about the idea. She says that she feels like she’s screwing over Angel. She says that she’s afraid she won’t know if she’s doing a good job, since her dad was never Lieutenant. Dex cracks that her initials would be DQ if she marries Quinn. Heh.

Colin Hanks, or Travis, sneaks into a woman’s house and you think she’s about to schtupped with snake babies, but instead it’s his sister and he just has a weird way of entering places. Molly Parker, another awesome guest star. They have really gone out of their way to ensure some interesting performances this season. Very happy about that. He and Lisa have dinner and he’s very odd. He says that he has work to do that evening, but Lisa convinces him to stay for dessert. There are hints that Travis’s whole thing is some sort of apocalyptic vision.

Dexter purposefully screws up his car so he can take it into Brother Sam’s body shop. Dexter spends some time with him and it appears that Brother Sam’s contrition was sincere. Masuka is in awe of his intern’s body. Angel doesn’t mind it either. Quinn asks Dexter to help with Deb, but he doesn’t seem very interested in that. Deb tells Angel that she’s the detective she is because of him, also that he’s like family. She tells him that she has been offered Lieutenant and that she’ll say no if he wants. Of course, he tells her to take it. He seems hurt though. He kind of gives Maria the cold shoulder after the news. She tries to badmouth Deb and he says that Deb is a better cop than she ever was. He says that Matthews hates Laguerta and he’s the one always paying the price.

Dexter spies on Brother Sam and sees him pull a guy out of his car trunk and take him into his shop. Dexter is going to go in and knock Sam out when his junkyard dog spoils his surprise. He finds out that the person in the trunk was someone that Sam is trying to help. Can people change? New question for Dexter to ask about a whole lot in VO for the season. Then, some dudes show up to cause trouble. They’re there for the guy that Sam rescued/kidnapped. Dexter knocks one of the guys out and another pulls a gun on Sam, who says that he’s not afraid to die. They leave and Dexter decides to go get the guy with the gun later, instead of Sam.

Edward James Olmos tells Travis that Lisa can’t be saved. He burns himself and it makes Travis vow to never see Lisa again. Deb tells Quinn that she doesn’t want to get married and he tells her to move out. She moves in with Dex and takes the Lieutenant position. Jamie seems annoyed that Deb is there. Hmm. Mausuka’s intern finds out that the belly snakes had traces of metals that can be traced environmentally. She also noticed that Masuka likes looking at her ass.

Laguerta appoints Deb to Lieutenant, even though she bitched at Matthews about the appointment. She’s the youngest one ever in Miami! Later, Dexter kills that guy with the gun. He’s clearly ruminating over the idea of monsters getting to have happy lives. Then, he goes home to get Harrison ready for bed. Also, Travis appears to claim another victim.

Previously: There's a new killer. He's a Hanks and he's gross and Edward James Olmos is his Harry. Dexter doesn't believe in anything, but he needs to believe in something for Harrison's sake. Angel and Maria are divorced and Maria is promoted to Captain. Deb saves the day when a shooter comes into the restaurant where she's dining with Quinn and he's trying to propose.

Lights up on Dexter's apartment, we see a door cracked and a foot oddly positioned in our sight line. He VO's that, before recently, he didn't believe in anything. Now he does. He believes that everything is better after a bubble bath. You guys! You got me. The camera moves in and we see Dexter giving Harrison a bath. He says that rituals are important and not just for a serial killer but for two-year olds also. We see him going over the mechanics of tooth brushing with Harrison. Bedtime with his son is his favorite ritual of the day now, which is interesting news. How jack-in-the-box can compare with stabbing suspected bad people is beyond me. Not like I think one is better than the other, I just really don't see how you can compare the two. Wait, I'm pretty sure I believe that playing with the kid is better. Then, with his face positioned away from the camera because he's a baby and can't learn lines yet (they should've gotten an Olsen -- aren't there like 15 of them? One of them has got to be an infant right now), we hear, "Monster story, Daddy." Smart move there, Dexter. He tells the story of the bad Chino who was terrorizing the neighborhood. DADDY slays the bad Chino and hides the body. Seriously, that's the story. Thanks for making the details so opaque, Dex. You've really got this organized. Then, Harrison says, "Daddy's box." Dexter seems stunned. You know about the box? I mean, people always say that kids pick up more than you expect, but wouldn't you know if you were revealing the box where you kept slides of blood extracted from your murder victims? Come on. The baby didn't just intuit the box into existence in his mind. He VO's that he always knew this day would come, just not so soon. But, seriously, you just told him a story about killing people. Either you care if people find out or you don't. I mean, I'm HYPER-aware of the visibility of certain things in my room, be they diet pills, condoms or The Nanny Diaries (which I guess would make the condoms unnecessary if ever found). I just know if there's any way that they could be seen. Are you telling me I'd be a more responsible serial killer than Dexter?

Edward James Olmos is watching as Colin Hanks is unloading stuff into some building. He says that they'll be ready soon. Hanks says that he may be a little late the day and Eddie starts to freak out saying that they have to "find another." He can't help it, he has to be late. These scenes are boring. We get it. There's craziness happening. People are going to get killed. Move on. We've seen all of this before. Travis, that's Colin Hanks's name, says that he's aware that they have to "find another." Then, he drops one of the bags that he's carrying and mannequin parts fall out, because OF COURSE. "Now look what you've done," says Eddie Olmos. Travis is really apologetic and Eddie tells him not to worry about it. He just to know that he can rely on Travis. He says that he can, then moves the parts inside. I didn't know window dressing a department store was so serious. As Travis walks inside, Eddie picks up and looks at a lady mannequin head with brunette hair.

Cut to Deb. What? I don't like that. Quinn is making her breakfast and he seems nervous. She doesn't know what the occasion is but cracks that they are "the fucking Kennedys." She thinks that they are going to spend another day sitting on their bums while they wait to be cleared for duty after the restaurant shooting. She sees that he's making pancakes and reminds him that her bar is set really high for pancakes, since her father made the "best." Now Deb, you're just being rude. Then, she looks into the fridge for some OJ and finds a ring instead. She turns around to find Quinn on his knee and the requisite, "What the fuck?"s happen. He starts to propose officially and she asks him if he's insane. He tells her that he's trying to be fucking romantic and she freaks out that they've never talked about marriage before. She tells him to get up and he reminds her that they've been dating for a year. And? I'm not sure what Deb is expecting. Can she be THAT stunned? I mean, it's Quinn, so I guess she can. He asks her if her problem is the ring and she softens a bit and says that the ring is beautiful. She just needs time to think. He tells her to take all the time she needs, but you know no one ever means that. He kisses her on the cheek and tells her that he's not going anywhere. She points out that the pancakes are burning. This! Now this is going to be a story to tell the grandchildren. A story about true love.

At the station, Deb is in Dexter's office and telling him, with intensity, that Quinn just proposed to her. She says to Dexter that she never said to Quinn that she wanted to spend the rest of her life with him. Geez, she's hardcore. Dexter says that he takes Deb's response as a "no." He also VO's that Quinn will be uncle to his son over his dead body. Deb says her answer is a maybe and that he makes her happy. That last part is said more as a question. Dexter points out that the vein in her forehead contradicts the "happy" part. She says that she and Quinn get along well and there's no drama, which, after the last few years, is great for her. But...she's not sure that drama-free is at the top of her must-have list. She asks why things can't just stay the same and Dexter looks at a picture of a tiny Harrison and says, "Tell me about it."

Deb and Dex are on their way to a briefing and we see Masuka showing a video of Deb's restaurant heroics to other cops from his phone. He tells them that the video already has half a million hits. Deb is the new Ryan Gosling! Deb walks up and the guys start applauding her. She's all "Yeah, yeah" and Masuka says that she's an Internet sensation. Quinn tells him to give it a rest and Masuka asks if she has read the comments about her online. She has and believes that Masuka was responsible for a poem about her ass. He denies involvement but points out that it was a limerick. This just feels tired. I feel as if I've written about this scene like seven times before. So, to make things feel a little fresh and to offset the existential crisis that is likely to occur from being bored stiff while writing about a serial killer (I mean, seriously, if that doesn't keep you at least engaged, what else is there? Mole people? OK, maybe mole people), I'm going to take this time to describe, with excruciating detail, the stuff in this scene that we're really not being asked to pay attention to. Like Quinn's tan. Now, Desmond Harrington is an attractive guy. In fact, in other settings, say Gossip Girl, he's downright pretty. So, it's sad, but entirely appropriate that they make him look like sort of a schmuck on this show. The ill-fitting clothes, the gold chain, the tan. THE TAN. This is why we stay out of the sun, folks. I'm looking at Michael C. Hall and Harrington in freeze frame standing to each other and Harrington looks like he has a good 6 to 9 years on Hall, when, in fact, my trusty resource IMDB.com tells me that Hall is nearly 6 years older than Harrington. A difference of 12 to 15 years! Officially! It's like he's Lindsay Lohan. Anyway, props to the team that made these choices. They really work for the character, in my opinion. Deb's shirt is gingham. I have the same material in a shirt of mine, though it's not quite as fitted. I wonder what Deb's tailoring bills are. Girl likes herself a fitted shirt. Masuka is wearing a red and white patterned shirt that would make a lovely couch. In fact, I tried to buy that couch a few years ago but was vetoed. Only one of the extra cop guys is wearing a tie. He's the only one wearing a tie in the room and he's wearing it as if he wears one every day. I wonder what could be different about his job that requires him to wear a tie when no one else does. Or maybe he just has this ethic thing about wearing one and wears it even though it makes him stand out. I wonder if it makes the other cops suspicious of him or if it makes him a joke. I wonder if he eats lunch alone. I wonder if he carried a briefcase in high school.

Anyway, so they begin the briefing with an announcement from Masuka that forensics have determined that Quinn and Deb are cleared of any wrongdoing in the restaurant shooting. The shooter was a disgruntled former employee. Deb scoffs that people are dead because this guy wanted his job back waiting tables. I doubt seriously he thought he was going to get his job back. order of business. Angel wants to know what's up with the investigation into Omar Rivera's death. He's the guy with the snakes in the chest. Dexter says that, as they had thought, the snakes and stitches happened post-mortem. Masuka says that he and his "lovely intern" Ryan are waiting for the medical examiner to return with info about the snakes. Angel says that Rivera had ties to a drug cartel and, in that culture, a snake means a snitch; so, if it's not about drugs, he doesn't know what this could be about. Dexter VO's that maybe Angel doesn't get it because it's in a language only Dexter understands.

Suddenly, Quinn asks about a "holy piece of shit" that he sees in the station. Dexter recognizes him. It's Brother Sam (played by Mos Def -- I think he's freaking fantastic) and Dexter VO's that he recognizes him. Rivera worked at Brother Sam's body shop when he got out of jail. Quinn says that Sam and his ex-con friends can go to hell, and then everyone disperses. Masuka tells Dex that Sam runs a body shop as sort of a halfway house for former inmates, though most of the cops think it's a sham. Dex agrees that Sam can't be a man of the cloth -- he's a killer. I guess that's how he recognized him.

Matthews is in his office watching the video of Deb when Laguerta enters and says that she's settled into his old office. Question: How did Matthews promote himself ? Did he just create a new position so that Laguerta could have his old job? Maria wants to know when he's going to finalize Angel's promotion to Lieutenant. He says he's on it, and then sort of insinuates that she should leave. She does. After she's gone, he watches the video again.

Angel questions Brother Sam about the last time he saw Rivera. Sam is as cool as a cucumber and seems very sincere, but Angel isn't very polite to him. He thinks Sam might know something about his murder. Dexter is watching a surveillance monitor and VO's that he knew Sam when he was a burglar who accidentally killed someone. Dexter was going to kill him when a drug bust got him arrested and taken off the streets and out of reach. Sam tells Angel that Omar was on the straight and narrow. Angel reminds him that he vouched for another ex-con who subsequently killed a 19-year old girl. Sam says that he thinks about that girl every day, but Angel says that her blood is on his hands. Oh yeah? Sam says that there is a lot more than that girl's blood on his hands. He says he's in need of lots of redemption. Angel doesn't believe him and he doesn't care, but he says that Omar did not have this coming. His demons were gone. He says that men can change. "Men maybe but what about a monster?" asks Dexter. More monster talk. Fantastic.

Deb meets Matthews in his old office. He says that he remembers when he was there, with her father. Corruption was everywhere. Deb says that her father said you never knew who to trust. Matthews says that Harry was a good one and so is Deb. He says that he's making her Lieutenant. And she bursts out laughing with disbelief. He's serious. "Fuck Balls. You're serious...sir." He tells her that she's just what the department needs. Fresh face and new ideas. She's still shocked. She says that this is Angel's job and he deserves it. Matthews agrees but says that Angel has baggage. Also, he reminds her that the city considers her a hero. She's stunned but says that this is an honor. She's handling this a lot better than the proposal. She says that she would be Masuka's boss. Wait, she'd be everybody's boss. He tells her that they'll talk about it more the day then calls her "Lieutenant" before leaving. She repeats the word to herself after he leaves then asks what the fuck is going on today.

Dexter is playing with Harrison and looking at pictures of the crime scene where Sam killed a dude. I'm not sure multi-tasking is so important now. Just play with the kid. You can plan your killing later. Harrison says, "Daddy's box." I guess. Whatever! This means that Harrison is putting all of the pieces together, I guess. Harry is there to warn him about this. Then, Deb knocks on the door and tells him that she's the new Lieutenant. They have some beers and she says that she can't imagine what Matthews is thinking. Dexter tells her that she's a great cop and also VO's that she might be in charge of the department that hunts him down one day. Seriously though. That should be happening soon. Deb asks Dex is he ever wondered why Harry didn't make "LT." He VO's that Harry had his hands full with him. He says aloud that it's possible he didn't want the job. Deb says that, after Harry's funeral, she felt a sense of relief because she'd always been trying so hard to get his attention. She says that, if she takes/gets this job, she'll have achieved more than Harry ever did, which scares her. He was her litmus test for what a cop should be and now she'll entering territory that is uncharted by him. That's a pretty fully formed belief system for such a confused person. She doesn't know how to judge whether or not she's doing a good job. He tells her that if she doesn't want the job she shouldn't take it, but she tells him to fuck off of course she wants it. "Holy shit, I really want it." She gets a call from Quinn and doesn't take it. She forgot that she needs to answer his proposal. Dex points out that, if she marries Quinn, her initials will be DQ. She threatens to kill him and also asks him if she can stay there for the night.

Travis creeps into an apartment and we hear someone rustling in a kitchen. There's a woman putting something in an oven and he walks behind her and puts his hand on her shoulder. Naturally, she screams, but she doesn't drop the dish that she's holding. She knows Travis but he's upset that she said "goddammit" after she screamed. I'm not sure what he was expecting. He's lucky he didn't get a hot casserole right in his face. The actress is Molly Parker and she's awesome, though Canadian. They're really filling out the supporting parts with some fine actors this season, but I have to say that poor Colin Hanks has gotten the shit end of the stick so far. I'm not sure he's ever going to have anything to do other than look terrified and conflicted. Travis gets a hug and they sit for dinner. He's wolfing his food down and she tells him to slow down and save room for dessert. He can't stay for dessert -- he has to work. She says that he works too much. Then, she tells him that being a fifth grade art teacher is hard. The kids are obsessed with a flock of dead birds found up north and they all think it's the end of the world. Cue slow-burn from Travis. What if it is the end of the world? Well, then they'd better eat that ice cream quickly. Ha! So, this lady, she's not one to notice red flags. Travis, her brother, is acting like textbook crazy town. Is a joke about ice cream really your reply when someone suggests that they think the world might be ending? They probably still call Uncle Larry's partner his "roommate." She tells Travis that she misses him and wants to spend time with her baby brother. He agrees to stay for dessert.

The day, Dexter, accompanied by bouncy music, purposefully backs his car into a dumpster, all the while taking care to not spill his coffee. Monsters need caffeine too. He takes the car to Brother Sam's shop. Everybody stares at him funny. A guy asks if he's a parole officer and he says that he's there to see Brother Sam about some body work. He finds Sam in the back, hitting a punching bag. Sam deduces that he's not from around there and Dexter says that a co-worker recommended him. Dex wonders if it's the Holy Spirit or Sam's dark passenger that's checking him out. As he's looking at Dexter's car, Dex notices a "Good Shepherd" mural on the side of his building. Dex asks about it and Sam says that the men at the shop are his flock and it's his job to not let them wander. Dexter says that's a big job, but Sam says he has a lot to answer for. Sam says that he killed a man and walked away free. He needs to pay. He said that last part in unison with Dexter's VO. Somebody owes somebody a Coke. Dexter says that he's surprised to hear him say this and Sam replies that the Spirit moves him to share his story. He was on trial to go to death row when the presiding judge died, causing a mistrial. That's odd. Then, he got picked up later for a drug possession and found religion in prison. Some guy comes out and says that Nick hasn't shown up- Sam says to find him and tell him that he's coming to get him. Dexter accepts the estimate and tells Sam that he will be seeing him soon.

Masuka is instructing Ryan in the lab. She's turned on by all of the evidence and Masuka stares at her booty as she's looking over all of it. Angel walks by and tells Masuka to keep his hands to himself, otherwise they might get a sexual harassment charge. Masuka calls him Lieutenant Buzzkill. Angel likes the butt, too, though. Deb sees him and asks to take him for coffee.

Meanwhile, Quinn approaches Dexter and asks him if he's heard anything from Deb. He heard that he proposed and that the pancakes weren't bad. Small victories. He says that he knows he and Dexter have had their differences but it would mean a lot if Dexter would put in a good word for him. In what universe do you expect a guy who you essentially accused of murder to recommend that his sister marry you? You're barking up the wrong bloody tree. Quinn says that he doesn't want Deb to feel like she has to choose between the two of them. "She doesn't," replies Dexter as he walks away and VO's that it will never be Quinn.

Angel ultimately won't let Deb pay for the coffee. She tells him that she's the detective she is because of him and she thinks of him as family. He wants to know what she's talking about and she tells him not to look at her for a second. That's a classic Deb line and I love it. Looking away, she tells him that Matthews has asked her to be the new Lieutenant. He asks what she said and she says she told him that Angel should have the job but he wouldn't listen. She vows to tell Matthews to fuck himself if he says the word. He pauses, then smiles and says that he couldn't be happier for her. He says it's about time that there was a "real cop" in the job (Maria dig). Then, he jokes that he's going to need her to pay for coffee after all. He gives her a big hug and you know, of course, that he's not as happy as he says.

Later, he's leaving the station and Laguerta is following him. She just found out about Deb getting the job. He says that he was on the fence about the job in the first place. She tells him that the choice had nothing to do with him and Matthews is just using Deb to get back at Maria. She says that Deb is barely out of diapers and Angel stops her. He says that Deb is a good detective, better than Maria ever was. She says that she'll fix this and he tells her that it's over, but adds that, though Matthews hates Maria, he's always paying the price.

That night, Sam leaves his shop and Dexter follows him. Sam pulls up to a house and we hear an altercation inside. A gun goes off and we see Sam carry a guy out on his shoulders and put him in the trunk of his car. Dex seems excited that he'll get to kill him after all. Back at the shop, Sam pulls the guy out of the trunk and carries him inside. He says that he can't kill Sam until he knows that he killed that guy, but he carries a syringe of knockout juice just in case. He's sneaking up to the door when a junkyard dog starts barking like crazy and charging him. He's ready to inject the dog with the tranquilizer when Sam comes outside and calls the dog off. Dexter says that he forgot his garage door clicker in his glove compartment and was just going to grab that. He says that he'll come back later, but Sam tells him to do it now. So, Dexter assumes that he'll be killing him, because he's thinking that Sam's probably going to try to kill him. Monster's Ball. But, the guy from the trunk is having a cigarette and sitting on a car. Not dead. Sam tells him to get off the car and the guy says that he can't believe Sam hit him. Well, Sam can't believe that he took a shot at him. Gunshot explained. Dexter is confused. The guy takes the dog in the back and Dexter deduces that he was the missing worker. Sam tells a Bible story about a shepherd breaking the leg of a lamb to keep it from wandering off. That's what he feels like he's doing. The worker is on drugs and Sam is trying to keep his flock. He tells Dexter to get his clicker and he mimics grabbing something out of his glove compartment. He's contemplating via VO how this is proof that maybe people can change when some people drive up. Sam says this isn't good and tells Dexter to stand back.

A group of guys get out and ask for the guy that Sam took. Dexter asks if there's a problem and Sam asks if this is his idea of standing back. A guy with a lead pipe approaches Dexter and asks him if he's deaf. He's not, but he's quick. He grabs the lead pipe and nails the guy. Sam tells them to go and the leader pulls out a gun and says that he's not leaving without his dude. Sam just stands him down and talks about God stuff. Dexter can't tell if he's crazy or a liar. Then, he shows his Miami Metro badge and the guys leave. Sam says that he's praying for them, but they threaten to get him later. They leave and Sam says it was a miracle. Dexter reveals that he is just a lab geek, but Sam says he doesn't fight like a geek. Then, he laughs and says that this has been an evening full of wonders.

It looks like Travis and Eddie Olmos have been camping out in an abandoned church. Eddie asks where Travis was the night before. He says that he was with his sister. She cares about him and he couldn't get away. Eddie says that his sister can't be saved, but Travis implores that she's the only thing she has. No, he has him and God. Sounds like a party. So, Eddie is holding a pipe of some sort over a fire and approaches Travis and says that "this" is what he wants. It looks like he's going to brand Travis or something, but he actually burns himself and says that he's suffering for Travis's sins. Travis begs him to stop and swears to never see his sister again. Eddie says it's his job to take care of him, not his sister's. Travis cries and says that he will show him that he is worthy.

Deb goes home to find take-out Chinese food surrounded by a heart of candles. She just comes out and says that she can't marry him. He asks why she's with him then. It's too complicated or something for her. She liked the way things were. He says that's not good enough for him, but she says she doesn't want more. He leaves and tells her to be gone when he's back. After he's gone, she says, "Oh. And I'm your new boss."

At home, Harry tells Dexter that it looks like Sam is really a changed man. Dex looks up the leader of the pack that came after him today -- he'll be taking Sam's place. The morning, Dexter is looking for a shirt and he promises Jamie that Deb's staying there is temporary. Deb is in her dress blues and asks Dexter if she's making a mistake. He says that he doesn't know. As Harrison is getting older, he's finding that he doesn't believe in much. But, he knows that she'll be a great Lieutenant. She says that he'll be the person she thinks of making proud now.

In the lab, Masuka finds that the snakes in the chest were from the wild, which doesn't help them trace the origins. He dictates his results into a tape recorder and also reminds himself to buy Barry Manilow tickets. Ryan comes in with toxicology results and a really inappropriately tight outfit. She ran tissue samples of the snakes. There were traces of metals, but nothing in the bellies of the snakes, so it means that the mother snake must have been living in a toxic environment. They can run EPA tests and have a better idea of the origins of the mama. Nice! He makes half a crack about looking up her skirt and she hears it. He begs her not to sue and she says, "You like to watch. Good to know." Trouble.

Maria storms into Matthews's office and complains about his choice of Deb for LT. She says fuck you and he tells her that she only gets one time to do that. The choice is his and that's that. He says that this is going to be a disaster and she won't take the fall, but he says we'll see about that.

Masuka, with Ryan, tells Angel that hazardous waste sites in or around the Everglades might be the location of the original snake. A bunch of reporters arrive. Quinn asks Dexter what he said to Deb, but he just points at Deb in her uniform. Maria takes the podium and introduces Deb as LT, the youngest one ever at Miami Metro. She also calls her a "true friend," which is amazing. Everyone seems stunned, except Angel, of course.

Later, Dexter takes out Julio, the guy from the shop. They're in a barber shop and Dexter slits his throat. He says that monsters don't get to live happily ever after, but I'm not sure what he's really thinking. We see him giving Harrison his bath later. Isn't this a happy-ish ending? Is he just expecting doom later on? Or, is he thinking that he doesn't have to be a monster after all? He gives Harrison a box like his so that he won't remember Dexter's. When Harrison asks for a monster story, he opts to tell him The Three Little Pigs. He's thinking of wolves now instead. We see Travis club a jogger on a late-night path. He takes him back to the church and Eddie Olmos seems pleased. Dexter says that Harrison can't see the real him, but was that ever really an option?
