Out With A Whimper

Previously: Sixteen losers without jobs decided they wanted to work for Trump. Some true crazies (David, Mahsa) and some boring folks (Liza, Gene) fell by the wayside, and we're left with Clint and Brandy. Last week, they got started on their final challenge. Clint's working with Mahsa, Poppy, and Steuart on a post-golf tournament dinner gala with Liza Minnelli; and Brandy's working with Liza, Stephanie, and Anand on the actual VIP golf tournament. Unfortunately for Brandy, Liza's practically a professional golfer so Trump wants her to golf with his group, meaning Brandy's a man down. Things were getting all effed up: Brandy's photographer went to the wrong Trump National Golf Course, and Clint's printer misspelled Liza Minnelli. And that brings us to now: the finale (or finally). "Money, money, money, money..." and all the drama that goes with it.

Trump National. (NOT the one in Bedminster.) In Team Clint headquarters, Poppy and Mahsa are still freaking out about the spelling of Minnelli when Clint and Steuart come down and see what's happened. Clint says that when he proofed it the night before the day was right, so he's not sure what happened, but he hopes they can use the $1,000 credit they still have at the printer to get the posters and place cards reprinted. The printer does it without complaint. So ... not really much of a cliffhanger. Team Brandy's worried about the no-show photographer as their "VIP" folks start to show up. They're a bunch of sports figures I've never heard of, although Anand tells us they're kind of a big deal. Then the photographer shows up, clearing up their cliffhanger, too.

, Kathy Griffin shows up. She's available to Team Brandy from morning until the golf tournament ends, when she becomes available to Clint's team. Brandy and Stephanie run through instructions with Kathy about how to introduce and welcome everyone. Team Brandy heads out to the front to wait to greet Trump. The team waits until the tournament's starting to realize he's already there and about to golf, then grabs Kathy and heads over. However, they get there as everyone's getting in their carts and driving away. Kathy has a good sense of humor about it (like, duh), but it's still very bad. Team Brandy didn't greet Trump or use Kathy in any way to start the tournament. It's not looking good for women this season.

Team Clint reminds us about his gala dinner, with a concert by Liza Minnelli and awards presentation by Kathy Griffin. Clint puts Poppy in charge of Liza and Mahsa in charge of Kathy. Then Steuart starts talking catering, and Clint tells us once again that Steuart's background is in catering, so he had great faith that he'd know what he was doing. Back with Team Brandy -- or at least the golfing contingent -- Trump and Liza and their third are golfing as Trump complains that they are at a disadvantage because they only have three players, which gives them less of a shot at winning. Liza interviews that someone dropped the ball. Cut to Brandy, who's realized that Trump doesn't have a fourth. She and Anand head out to talk to Trump and smooth things over, but he's pretty upset that he basically has no chance winning against a foursome, let alone a fivesome.

Team Clint. The printer shows up, and Clint threatens to kiss him -- apparently as punishment for the misspelling. Back with Team Brandy, Stephanie's driving Kathy around to the golf teams so that they can get some of the experience they missed out on with the lack of an introduction by her. Stephanie loves her, and everyone else seems to think she's funny, too (like, duh). Some guys show up and are added to Trump's team, making it a fivesome. And they're also pretty great, which means Brandy's made it all better. Liza hopes it won't come up in the boardroom. Back at Team Clint again, Ivanka shows up looking lovely with a French twist. She's impressed with the dinner gala location and asks Steuart what he did. He tells her he did everything with the catering and the catering venue. She asks him, point blank, "So what did Clint do?" Then she interviews that she's not sure Clint can be a great leader, since they have to be more than a great delegator.

Clint comes outside during the golf event to catch up with Trump in his golf cart and tell him how great dinner's going to be. Brandy wonders if he doesn't have an event to plan. Why, no, actually, Brandy. He delegated all of his work to Steuart. Ivanka checks out Team Brandy's awards and gifts table. She thinks Brandy's done a nice job, and the gifts -- including the framed photos of the teams -- are memorable. Golfing's coming to an end, which means Team Brandy can sit back and relax in cocktail attire at the gala while Team Clint keeps sweating.

Speaking of, Clint and Poppy are waiting for Liza, who shows up all friendly and cheerful in a black SUV. Clint informs us he's responsible for Liza Minnelli, which is a heck of a lot to be responsible for. It's a stage, making sure she looks good, sounds good, etc. They let Liza head to the stage to practice her songs and go get cleaned up themselves. Then he heads up to greet Kathy Griffin and mispronounces endive (though I'm not sure if he really does). Outside, Steuart scoffs at plastic containers. When Clint comes out, he finds a table of folks from Texas and they get all accenty with each other, leading to a hilarious Steuart interview where he impersonates Clint: "You have Clint from Texas -- 'Hey I'm from Texas. Hope y'all like me. I like y'all. We're all friends. Thanks y'all.'" He worries that could come back and hurt Clint. Perfectly edited cut to Clint inviting people to eat by saying "We're gonna go ahead and start feeding y'all, so whenever y'all want to come through."

Team Brandy's mingling, and Brandy thinks the space looks beautiful. She acknowledges that Clint's a tough competitor and that winning against him might be difficult. Clint keeps "y'all"-ing everyone about getting their food, and then Steuart explains how complicated it is to get 500 people through the food line. Clint adds that it could be a disaster if they don't get them all through in a hour, because that's when the show starts. Trump and the Trumplets are about to get some food when Clint jumps on stage and starts asking for everyone's attention. Trump looks at him and sighs, so we cut to a commercial. Because it's so suspenseful.

When we're back, he's still asking for people's attention, because the show is about to begin. He introduces himself and we get a closeup of an annoyed-looking Trump. Clint talks about Liza Minnelli and Kathy Griffin, then introduces Trump, who comes out, congratulates Clint and Brandy, then introduces Kathy, whom he loves. Kathy does a comedy number and then presents the awards. When she reveals the prizes, she says the golf clubs are worth $300, or $400 or whatever. Stephanie's stressing out and worried for Brandy, since these people spend more money than that on golf balls. When Kathy finishes up, she introduces Liza, who is somehow, mid-song and while seated, channeling Lucille 2. Clint thinks Liza's amazing and this gala dinner's amazing, and losing isn't even in his vocabulary. Steuart gives him a thumbs-up from across the room, and it makes me sad Steuart didn't make the final, because this catering task was all him.

Brandy talks about what a great experience this has been and how she's made great friends (she doesn't mention the enemies), and how she's proud no matter what. Clint says it's changed his life, and his family and wife are proud of him, so he's going to be happy and successful even if he doesn't win. Liza finishes up and gets a standing ovation and an air kiss from Trump.

Which brings us to the boardroom. Teams Brandy and Clint join the Trumplets, and then Trump arrives. He immediately asks Brandy why she chose a team instead of a task when given the option. She says she was excited to work with this team, and he asks why she preferred this team. She says she's always liked Stephanie, was with Liza until the end, and respects Anand. She also says that she didn't work well with Mahsa and she didn't need that distraction. Trump asks Mahsa about that, and she says that Brandy always makes it personal, and she's never done that. Wow, that is rich. She says that she and Clint also had issues, but that didn't come into it. Trump asks her if she redeemed herself and she says she did. He agrees and then tells Anand he redeemed himself, too. He asks Liza if she liked playing golf with him, and she says she did. Then he asks who chose the golf equipment for the winners, which was a brand he's never heard of. Liza, for some reason, starts to make excuses and won't just admit that it was her. Trump laughs that he'll fire her twice if it was her. Then he says that the winners left the prizes behind, and asks Brandy if that wasn't bad management. She says she had a lot of things to do and trusted her teammates. Ivanka asks if they used all the money (they did), and then Anand explains how the initially wanted to do gift cards. Then Brandy says she can't say anything other than she sent them to get gift cards and trusted them to get the best prizes they could.

Trump moves on to Clint, asking if he thought Liza Minnelli did a great job. Clint: "Gosh. Gol-ly. Wow." (That's Texan for "yes.") Trump says everyone loved her, and they should be very proud. Trump asks Clint why he chose the dinner and concert over the golf tournament, when most people would have thought that was a harder task. He says that he wanted to show Trump that he could do the task that would be the bigger challenge for him. Ivanka asks Clint what his impression of his oratory skills is; she says he really milked the y'all thing, and found it to be a little unpolished. Trump agrees it was too much, and he got the impression that he was trying to come across as a country boy. He asks Clint if it was on purpose, but Clint says it wasn't; it's just what he uses in his everyday speech. Trump says okay, and tells them they are both outstanding.

Then he moves on to the teams. He asks Poppy who she'd pick, having worked with both, and he wants her to forget she's on Clint's team; he won't say she's disloyal or anything. She says she was very impressed by Clint on this task, who instructed them very well and had a clear idea of what he wanted. She says she also thinks Brandy's phenomenal, and she'd ultimately choose Brandy. Trump says that's all right for Clint, because he's sure Anand would pick Clint, but Anand and Clint are both like, "No way!" Anand chooses Brandy. Trump asks Stephanie, who says she won't be as nice, because Clint kept showing up on their task, on the golf course, which she felt was very disrespectful of Brandy. Trump asks Brandy and says he didn't even notice Clint on the golf course, because his team was so focused on golfing. Brandy says she noticed, and thought it was desperate. Stephanie says it's a no-brainer, because you need an excellent businesswoman in the business world, which is all Brandy, who's well-spoken, intelligent, and eloquent.

Trump asks Steuart who he'd choose, and Steuart says he would choose Clint. He says he was impressed on this task, but also on other tasks. He thinks he might not know everything, but he can adapt, and is an "exceptional person." Awww. They're like the new Troy and Kwame. Then Trump asks Mahsa, and Brandy rolls her eyes. Mahsa points out that she had a bigger problem with Clint coming out of her firing than with Brandy, but she'd choose Clint. She says the reason is that she was with him when he walked around greeting people, and he truly has a spark and charisma that lights people up. She says she could see it in the people he greeted, and she then got why he was in the final two. Now it's Liza's turn, and she chooses Brandy without a doubt. Liza says she tried to get Brandy out for weeks, and couldn't. Then she says that she lied Clint was the strongest in the final three because she would have rather played against Clint.
