Cut to Hawkins, teaching Allison to shoot by using CDs as targets. Among the propped-up CDs is a copy of Vanilla Ice's To the Extreme, which would be sort of funny, except that I'm not sure Allison was even born in 1990, so does that CD belong to Hawkins? He just gets more mysterious all the time. After listening to a long, long monologue of her father's advice, Allison manages to hit one of the CDs. They bond. Whee.
Stanley's pouring gasoline over the cornstalks. Is it still the same day? Wow. Mimi watches nervously as Stanley says that in theory, everything should be fine. And then Mom calls out, and pop music is cued up to alert us that our hearts are about to be warmed. Mom is leading a few dozen townsfolk up the road, to come help pick corn. And the guy I thought was a vampire in the preview is just Good Cop. Bummer. Also in the crowd are Eric, Heather and, sigh, Emily. Mom tells Stanley, "We're here to help -- no strings attached." And then Jakob Dylan croons, and Jake leads Dale and Sean up to serve their time. Bonnie offers Mimi some boots, and I say, "Are those to replace her diamond watch?" Johanna says no, she thinks Bonnie's hinting that Mimi should help pick corn. Johanna's no fun sometimes. Stanley starts in with the "Uncle Sam" stuff again, and none-too-gently hints that unless Mimi pitches in, she'll be sleeping in the barn. Mimi takes the boots, and gets all into Stanley's personal space, and golly gee, do you think that maybe romance is blooming? Gracie arrives bearing pesticide, which she offers up, saying, "I lost my head, Stanley. I'm sorry." The Hawkins family picks corn, and Jake strolls up to offer them some water. As Jake moves on, Allison asks Hawkins, "Is he a good man or a bad man?" I try to imagine any situation in which a teenager would seriously ask such a thing, while Hawkins tells her, "There's no such thing." Welcome to the cornfield of reconciliation and existentialism.
Jake carries his water pitcher out of the field to where Emily is doing something. Jake says, "Phew, carrying all this water around is tiring work!" I mean, seriously, that seems to be his whole contribution to this communal effort. Sadly, Emily does get one line in the episode: "Kinda cool, huh?" Then Jake says, "Especially if you like corn." Ladies and gentlemen, the show is officially recapping itself.
Jakob Dylan finally shuts up, and we move to the barn, where April is watching Eric haul containers of corn while he thinks, "I never should have agreed to play rock-paper-scissors against Jake to decide who'd get to be water boy." April babbles on that when they're done, they could go for a walk, except they'll be kinda tired. Eric begs her to stop, and says that she's making things worse. And again I say, the show is recapping itself. He sniffs that three weeks ago she wanted a divorce, and April says that things have changed, and why isn't the show over yet? Eventually Eric says, "There's always the walk home. Why don't we start there, see how we feel?"
