Episode Report Card Erin: B+ | Grade It Now! YOU GRADE IT When Good Sketches Go Bad

By Erin | Season 1 | Episode 15 | Aired on 03.02.2002

Now that Syd's counter-mission is all cleared up, Vaughn moves on to ask about why Sloane might be spending a lot of time at home. Syd tells him that Emily, Sloane's wife, is extremely ill. Vaughn's all, you kids were close, no? Syd's all, we still are. Unfortunately, since Emily received her diagnosis, they haven't spent much time together. As Syd's VO explains that she hasn't seen Emily since discovering the truth about Sloane, we catch a glimpse of Syd walking through her apartment, flipping through an address book.

Back at The Basement Of Denied Desires, Vaughn pretty much demands that Sydney get in touch with Emily again and wrangle an invite to Casa Sloane. Both Sydney and I are appalled. "You want me to plant a bug?" says Sydney incredulously. "Vaughn, she's dying of cancer." Vaughn's all, yeah, so what? Syd's all, you're asking me to abuse the kindness of a DYING WOMAN? Vaughn's all, yeah, and? It's not like she's gonna know or anything. Syd's all, you are such an insensitive prick! Vaughn's all, we can't plant a bug at SD-6! Syd's all, shut up, you utter asslick. This is totally immoral! Vaughn's all, um, dude? YOU'RE A FUCKING SPY! You HAVE no morals! Sydney's all, DUDE! She's my friend! Whether or not she's married to Sloane, she's still my friend! And, DUDE! She's DYING. "Does this not seem at ALL wrong to you?" Syd spits. After fighting with Syd a bit more, Vaughn finally convinces her that she has to do this and that this is Emily's unknowing chance to do some good.

Next thing we know, Syd's on the phone to Emily. Syd has a one-sided conversation with Emily about life and cancer and whatnot. We leave the scene after Sydney tells Emily that she misses her. Jennifer Garner manages to communicate to the audience that, while the reason that she's making this phone call makes her sick to her stomach, she clearly cares about Emily.

Prison Of Former thirtysomething Stars. Lois Lame's asking about Ken Olin's daughter. Kenny hasn't heard from her, but his lawyer says she's safe, so that's good enough for him. Lois Lame goes on to tell Kenny that forty-two companies currently use Kenny's encryption software. While Lois Lame has only had time to look into about eighteen of the companies, he has discovered that six of them share a common board member; a guy by the name of "Alain Christophe." Yes, I'm guessing on that spelling. The best part about this Christophe dude? Twelve years ago, he decided to retire…(Lois pauses for dramatic effect)…from the CIA. Gasp! Prior to Christophe's retirement, he ran counter-intelligence at Langley. Kenny smiles. "Why're you smiling?" asks Willage. "Because," says Kenny, "for the first time in eight years, SD-6 should be afraid of me."

Cue The Drums Of Dramatic Segues.
