Episode Report Card Kim: B+ | Grade It Now! YOU GRADE IT Legs

By Kim | Season 3 | Episode 3 | Aired on 07.27.1999

Poet writes on some paper. Adebisi, who I still have trouble recognizing with hair and without the hat, sneaks up behind Poet and asks if he's writing poetry. Poet says he doesn't do that anymore, and Adebisi says that is too bad. Poet tells Adebisi to leave him alone, and hurries away. As he walks away, we see that Adebisi has one pant leg pulled up and a red and yellow striped sock on. Hee!

Arif brings Said a glass of water. Khan exposits that Said has been on his hunger strike for four days with no reaction from Glynn or McManus. Said is confident that they will have to react soon. Four days? I can't go four hours without eating. Maybe that explains why I "hit the wall" around the one-minute mark.

Said's lawyer tells him that the judge accepted their class-action suit, but the trial won't start for two months. Said isn't happy about the delay, and asks the lawyer to visit Leo.

In Leo's office, the lawyer tells them that if they don't allow the Muslims to fast on their own terms, additional Muslims will start going on hunger strikes until all the Muslims in every prison in the state are starving. The lawyer points out that on top of the lawsuit, this is "bad press, bad karma, gentlemen." The lawyer leaves, and Leo suggests that they give in. McManus is concerned that Said's stature will grow, and he will use a hunger strike the next time he has demands. Leo says that next time, they won't have a lawsuit pending. McManus still thinks that they are losing, and Leo Zens, "Sometimes, the only way to win is to lose."

That night in his cell, Said opens a secret compartment containing a bunch of fruit and pulls out an apple. He says a prayer and then looks out to see McManus staring at him. Said smiles and bites into the apple. Across the way, Poet watches as well.

As Said, Beecher, and McManus run on treadmills behind him, Hill wonders what the deal is with treadmills, anyway. What is he, Seinfeld all of a sudden? "What's the deal with treadmills? You run and run, but you never get anywhere. It's like being a hamster on a wheel in a cage!" Okay, that part's only funny if you read it in a Seinfeld voice.

Claire comes into McManus's office and apologizes for overreacting about McManus comforting Diane. Flashback to Claire and Tim scrapping in his office. Claire apologizes again and says she just wants to be back where they were. Tim says that he's sorry if he gave her the wrong impression, but he's not looking for a relationship, and he didn't know that the sex would mean that much. Claire looks like she's about to go boil some rabbits. She knocks on the window to get Adebisi to stop watching them. She turns around and too brightly says that they can just be friends who fuck. McManus thinks that sex will complicate things, because it always does. Claire insists that that won't happen, but McManus isn't having it. Claire asks if she's no good in bed, and when McManus doesn't answer right away, she loses it. She tells him that he's not that great either, and asks him if he can't commit because he'd rather be "sucking off one of these guys." McManus sighs, and Claire asks if she's hitting a nerve. McManus replies calmly, "No, you're boring me." Claire yells "cocksucker" a couple of times and leaves. She scares the crap out of me, y'all.
