So the show starts off at a park, and it is raining and there are kids playing on the swings and running around. I don't remember my mother ever letting me go to the park when it rained, and I don't think my mom would sit there in the rain and watch me while getting drenched. But I guess it's different in the city -- people don't mind getting wet, I guess.
Ty and Sully are in their car and Ty is drinking what looks like an iced coffee. Sully asks him why he can't drink regular coffee, and Ty tells him that he is drinking an "ice blended mocha cap-pu-cheeen-ooo." Having problems pronouncing those big foreign words, huh Ty? Then Ty tells Sully that he and his sisters are throwing a birthday party for their mom after he gets off work, and asks Sully if he wants to come along. First of all, don't they only get out of work at midnight? I know their shift ends at 11, but after they take showers and get dressed and finish up for the night, isn't it about midnight? Can't they wait for the weekend, or a day that Ty has off? Or maybe Ty's mom is a party girl, and they are going to a rave or something. Sully passes on the offer, and then Ty asks him what he does for fun -- what he does to have "Sully fun." As opposed to "Ty's-mother fun," where she parties after midnight. Ty tells Sully that he pictures him alone in his boxer shorts watching old movies on a black-and-white TV. Sully's all, "You're having images of me in my underwear?" EW! And then tells Ty that he is totally off -- he has a color TV. Sully was born to be mild.
Bosco and Yokas are in their car, and Yokas has this big yellow feather boa and some yellow fabric, and she is sewing the boa onto the fabric. She is making a chicken costume for her daughter. For some reason, Bosco is all embarrassed; I guess he thinks that he'll see some of the guys from the fire department and they'll think the feather boa is for him. (If you remember, they have this big long running homo joke going on. I keep forgetting that accusing someone of being gay is a big laugh riot.) So anyway, they hear some gunshots, and they stop the car and go over to some guys in yellow bandannas and ask about the shots. The yellow-bandanna guys say they don't know anything about them, and across the street in the park, a woman starts wailing because her young son was shot in the chest. Bosco calls for paramedics, but Yokas doesn't think there's time to wait for them, so she carries the boy into their car and they drive him to the hospital.
Then the funky music and the opening credits start. It kind of sounds like rave music. ["Maybe Ty's mother picked it out." -- Sars]
VW Passats are very good at chasing bad guys -- maybe the police department should use them instead of the cars they have now.
The doctors from the ER are waiting outside for Bosco and Yokas, and when they arrive, a woman doctor takes over and chews out Yokas for not waiting for a life support unit, then storms off. Bosco calls her a bitch.
A woman is sitting on a sidewalk, and she looks like a runner who might have overdone it with the exercise. She is talking to Ty, and Carlos and Doc are about to check her out, but she tells them everything is fine. Carlos tells her she needs to sign a refusal, but Doc asks her when the last time was that she ate anything. She looks all sheepish, and he talks her into going to the hospital to get checked out.
Meanwhile, back at the fire station, everyone is watching football, and Jimmy is hanging out on the recliner. Oh, how the mighty fire-fighters work hard, and relax hard. Joey runs in and Kim follows. She tells Jimmy that the babysitter bailed and her mom will come to pick Joey up in a few hours. I think it's time to get a new babysitter. How many times has this person bailed on Kim already? The captain sees the kid and starts giving Kim a hard time, but he doesn't want to look like a bad guy so he lets it go. Gee, what a softie. Like there was anything he could do about it anyway. Kim and Bobby get a call. Jimmy tells her he has to go food shopping and he'll bring Joey. As Kim is leaving, she tells Jimmy not to give Joey any candy or soda, because the last time he did that Joey got sick and threw up. Poor kid. If I threw up every time I had candy and soda, I would be bulimic.
Sully the health nut is getting a hot dog with the works from a street vendor. Ty decides he would rather not partake in lips and assholes cooked in dirty water on a bun. Instead, he looks across the street, where he sees a man steal an old lady's purse and run off. Ty runs after him. After about a block or so, the guy just suddenly stops for no reason and Ty catches up to him and knocks him down and then cuffs him.
Doc is at the ER admitting the runner-woman, and he tells the nurse that the woman is bulimic. Carlos asks him how he figured out the woman had bulimia, and Doc tells him that her tooth enamel was stained. He and Mel from must have gone to the same school, because that's how Mel figured out Gina was bulimic too. I can't believe an idea was stolen from . Those crazy people were right -- the end of the world is upon us. So Doc asks the nurse about the boy who was shot and the nurse tells him that the kid was shot in the right ventricle and that Dr. Morales said he "probably bled out instantly." Doc's eyes get all big and he says, "Morales?" and the nurse tells him Morales is the new attending physician and Doc goes, "How is he?" and the nurse goes, "She's ... a pip." Cue Morales! She walks out of an exam room and walks past them. Carlos starts barking out, "Whoa! Yeah!" and makes this weird gesture with the lower half of his body. I think he just got angst in his pants.
Bobby and Kim are checking out the old lady that got her purse stolen. Sully is getting the name of the woman -- she is Mrs. Giamarese. She is a spunky ol' lady, and she says if she was quicker, she would have shoved her cane up the ass of the guy who stole her purse. Sully wants her to come down to the precinct to file charges, but she wants to call her son Ralph first. Sully figures out that her son is some Mob boss. Hmmm, an old Italian woman has family in the Mafia? Get out! So for some reason Sully is tickled pink by this, and he goes over to his car and the guy who stole the purse is sitting in the back, and Sully tells the guy who he tried to rob. The guy turns pale and starts saying that someone is going to kill him, and Sully just laughs. Oh, the comedy! Not.
Yokas is in the locker room wearing a tank top and washing her blood-stained shirt. She hangs it on a hook by her locker and starts putting on her bullet-proof vest. She asks Bosco if Caesar Domingues would know about a Two-sixer getting shot. Bosco tells her that not much gets done without Caesar's say so. Yokas suggests they go talk to him. Bosco says, "You don't have to ask me twice to toss that son of a bitch." What is Caesar -- a midget? Is Bosco going to a midget toss? So Yokas puts the shirt on that she just washed and goes, "Poof! Like nothing ever happened." Yeah, like you didn't just take that dripping-wet shirt and hang it up only two minutes ago, and now it is completely dry and ready for you to go out and search gang-bangers? Bosco kind of looks at her funny and tells her that it wasn't her fault, that the kid was hurt so bad it wouldn't have mattered if he was shot in the ER. Yokas insists that she knows it wasn't her fault, and then says that she's late for the wet t-shirt contest over at the fire station. Now, you know Bosco is being serious, because he call Yokas by her first name, Faith -- he asks her if she is all right. Faith responds with, "A little boy died today 'cause he was trying to play in the park. None of this is all right, Bos." I guess when she is serious she condenses Bosco's last name even more.
Beef just got faster. It's what's for dinner.
Jimmy and Joey are in the grocery store. Jimmy sees a good-looking woman and pushes the cart over to her, and he walks a few feet away and pretends to look at dairy products. Joey, while holding a big chocolate bar, says to the woman, "My daddy is lonely. He cries a lot." Jimmy saunters over to the cart with a huge tub of margarine and says, "Joey, remember, it's important to get food from all three food groups." Like the tub-of-cholesterol group. The woman looks at Jimmy and asks him if the Sleepless in Seattle thing usually works for him. Jimmy tells her it usually does, and then introduces himself. At this point, I would have called the police and told them that a man is using his son to pimp him, but instead the woman gives him a business card with her cell-phone number on it, and as she walks away she informs him that there are four food groups. Jimmy is so smooth. week he'll be taking someone's puppy for walks in the park to pick up more chicks.
Carlos and Doc are in an apartment, and a woman is hyperventilating. Her husband tells them that she was talking to her mother on the phone when she started having problems breathing. Doc thinks that she just had a fight with her mother and had a panic attack, but Carlos sees some suitcases and asks if they have been traveling. The husband says that they just came back from visiting her mother in Chicago. He asks the woman if she is on birth control pills, and she says yes. He then checks for tenderness in her calves, which she has. Carlos then announces that the woman has a pulmonary embolism -- women who are on birth control pills and sit for long periods of time can develop blood clots, which can go up into their lungs. He had seen it before in the Marines. Carlos is a regular Sherlock Holmes.
Bosco and Yokas stop at a corner and get out of their car. A bunch of guys are standing around, and the Spanish version of that Mark "poor man's Enrique Iglesias" Anthony is playing, and that's how you can tell that they're in a Hispanic part of town. Whatever. So Bosco and Yokas take some of the guys to the car and start patting them down. Yokas is patting down Caesar, and she asks him who shot at some Two-sixers. Caesar feigns ignorance and then acts like he's enjoying the pat-down. Yokas tightly grabs Caesar's johnson and asks if he still likes it. Is that was Bosco meant by "tossing?" Bosco tells Yokas to quit it and she cuffs Caesar for trespassing and puts him in the car.
The guy who stole the Mob mother's purse is at the precinct, and he's reminding Ty that he knocked the woman down so that should count for something. Sully comes in and tells the guy, whose name is Mr. French, that Mrs. Giamarese isn't going to press charges and that he is free to go. Mr. French and Ty are upset about it, and the guy refuses to go. He hangs onto a chain-link-type door. Sully pulls him away and the guy gives Sully a girly hit to his stomach. Oh yeah, like Sully can feel that. Mr. French is all, "There! I just assaulted you!" hoping to be put back in jail. Sully gives him a look and says, "I forgive you. You do that again, you'll be a free man with a foot up his ass." I'd like to see what that looks like. French is so desperate to stay in jail that he offers to give info on other criminals in return for getting to stay locked up. Yuk yuk yuk. I think if they had used tuba music in the background, it might have been even funnier.
Doc and Yokas are at the ER, and Carlos is telling Doc what journals he read about the symptoms of pulmonary embolism. Then Carlos decides that he is all Rico Suave and slides over to where Morales is standing. He introduces himself and starts patting himself on the back about the woman they brought in because he came up with the diagnosis of pulmonary embolism. She blows him off and walks away. Doc makes fun of him. Carlos needs to call Teck from The Real World for pick-up lines.
Bobby comes into the station and Joey runs up to him and tells him that he doesn't feel good and that he is going to throw up. Kim comes in and sees Bobby take Joey to the bathroom to throw up, and she goes over to Jimmy who is maxing and relaxing in the recliner and asks him what he fed Joey. He tells her he gave Joey candy and pizza. They argue about him giving Joey whatever he wants yadda yadda she is always the bad guy yadda yadda they go into the bathroom to watch the kid barf. Charming.
Bosco and Yokas and Caesar are in the car. Yokas wants information on the shooting. Caesar won't say anything. She tells him that they are in Two-six territory, and with her car speaker she announces to everyone outside, "Latin Lord on the street!" Then they stop the car and take him out. A group of gang-bangers are staring at Caesar. Yokas asks for the name of the shooter, and Caesar tells her it was Geronimo Enrique, a.k.a. L'il Nemo. Then he says that he has an alibi for the shooting because he was shacking with Geronimo's old lady when it went down. Yokas makes a comment about Caesar doing his gang member's woman, and Caesar tells her that it wasn't Geronimo's woman, it was his mother. L'il Nemo is ten years old, and was trying to make a name for himself by shooting someone.
Old people like wandering around Wal-Mart.
Bosco and Yokas at a fleabag apartment to talk to Geronimo's mom. She doesn't know or care where he is. Yokas gets snotty about the mother only caring about being with a man. The mother then tells them that he told her about going to a park, but she didn't know which one, and then shuts the door on them. Bosco tells Yokas that if they have to rely on him to be the level-headed one, there are going to be some problems. Yeah, like hell freezing over and monkeys flying out of my ass. She tells him not to go all "touchy-feely" on her, and again calls him "Bos." I wonder if the writers realized that the name Bosco sounds stupid and are trying to give him a better name.
Bobby and Joey are playing basketball in the fire station, and Bobby is showing him how to shoot the basketball underhanded. Jimmy comes over and accuses Bobby of teaching his son to shoot like a girl. Bobby starts to walk off, but Jimmy challenges him to a match and bets him $50.
Speaking of basketball, Bosco and Yokas go to a basketball court where there are a bunch of kids playing with a deflated ball and a milk crate for a basket. Just in case it didn't slap you in the face hard enough, I'll tell you that they are in a poor neighborhood. Bosco and Yokas ask the kids if they know where L'il Nemo is. They tell them they haven't seen him. I'll bet you that they really know, but since they're poor, it means that they don't trust The Man and won't help out. At least, that's what the writers want us to think.
Bobby and Jimmy are still playing basketball, and Joey looks bored. I'm bored too, but at least I can pour myself a healthy-sized glass of wine. Jimmy is playing rough and knocks down Bobby. Joey does what I wish I could do, and walks away.
Mr. French is ratting on people to a detective, and Sully and Ty explain to the detective that French wants to stay in jail, not get out. The detective tells them that they don't have anything on him, so they can't keep him. Then the detective goes to a desk to make a phone call about the info French gave him. French walks up behind him and starts peeing on him. Comedic genius, I tell you! No, not really.
Bobby and Jimmy are still playing basketball. Bobby wins. Jimmy starts to give him the money, but Bobby tells him to give it to Kim since he's behind on child support. Jimmy asks Bobby why Joey went to Bobby when he was sick instead of to Jimmy. Bobby tells him that Jimmy is like Bobby's own father -- he let him do whatever he wanted. He had enough friends, but he wanted a father. As Bobby walks away, Jimmy's ego deflates like the basketball those poor kids had.
Ty and Sully are in their car, and Sully is giving Ty a hard time for whatever. They see a car going the wrong way on a one-way street. Ty gets on the car speaker and tells the car to pull over. The car backs up and turns around and keeps going. After Ty uses the speaker a few more times, the car finally stops. Ty and Sully get out of their car, but Sully thinks there's something wrong and he won't let Ty go up to the car. He tells Ty the back lights never went on, so the driver never put his car in park. He thinks the car is going to take off. All of a sudden, there is a shot fired at them, and the car takes off. After a chase, the car goes through a store window. Sully and Ty go to the car and find body parts lying on top of it. Oh wait, it's just mannequin body parts. They look inside the car, and there's the driver, knocked unconscious with a bloody forehead. Ty takes some guns out of the car.
Andie MacDowell uses Line Eraser from L'Oreal. I wish she would use Annoyingly Bad Actress Eraser.
Bosco and Yokas are in the car. Yokas wonders if they're anything more than janitors -- clean-up crews with guns. They get a call about a stabbing. I'll bet you can't guess who it was...oh, you guessed! It was Geronimo! Good work! Bobby and Kim show up and do an emergency tracheotomy. Bosco helps them get the kid into the ambulance, and Yokas asks Geronimo's mother who did it. It was Caesar. Yokas yells out, "Son of a bitch!" and gets in her car.
Jimmy finds Joey asleep on the lounge chair. He picks him up and holds him. Too little, too late, Jimmy.
Kim and Bobby are putting their stretcher back into their ambulance when Doc and Carlos come by. Carlos asks Bobby if he's seen the new doctor, and Bobby is all, "She's mighty foine!" Carlos tells him that he thought he would stop by to say "hi," and that he thinks that she is intrigued. Intrigued by what? Carlos's inability to take a hint? Doc asks Kim and Bobby how the kid is, and Bobby tells him that Geronimo has gone up to the OR, and then he tells him how Kim got a tube into Geronimo's airway. As they pat each other on the back for their great work under pressure, Morales comes out and starts bitching Kim out for not following protocol and doing a tracheotomy without calling into the ER or whatever, and as she starts stomping away, Doc stops her and tells her that the paramedics and ER doctors have to work together, and Morales tells him that when they don't follow protocol and something goes wrong, don't look for her to back them up. Once she leaves, Carlos runs up to Doc and asked if she said anything about him. Hey Carlos, if you can pick up on the elusive symptoms of a rare medical problem, why can't you pick up a freakin' clue about the opposite sex?
Bosco and Yokas find Caesar again, and Yokas handcuffs him. He tells her that no one will testify and that they don't need the police -- they solve their own problems. As they take him to the car, there is a shopping cart on the corner with a cutting board on it with sliced watermelon. After she puts him in the car and goes to open the driver's-side door, the shopping cart has vanished. Golly, people sure do eat watermelon fast in that part of town! ["Either that, or somebody ate the continuity editor." -- Sars]
Doc is visiting Jerry in the hospital. Jerry tells his older son (not the one that sleeps through everything) to leave so he can talk with Doc. He asks Doc if he would consider taking care of his kids if anything ever happened to him or his wife. Then he tells Doc that he'll be making more money on disability than working, so he isn't coming back. Doc is all pissed. What a selfish bastard -- the guy got shot four times in the chest, he would make more money not working and staying at home with his family, and Doc seems to think it isn't fair to him. Doc should go out with Carlos to look for a clue.
At the precinct, Ty and Sully are changing into street clothes, and Ty thanks Sully for telling him about the driver not putting the car in park, and that he could have been killed. Sully says that since they're going home and the guy got eleven stitches in his head, they won. Ty thanks him again, and then Sully says, "Look, this is the wrong line of work if you're looking for pats on the fanny and people falling over with gratitude." Yes, he actually used the word "fanny." Ty is probably thinking he can find pats on the fanny and people falling over at the rave he is taking his mom to when he leaves work, and asks Sully one more time if he wants to go with him. Sully tells him he has a date, and Ty laughs. Nice to be respectful to your elders, Ty.
Yokas is driving with Caesar in the back, and she is starting to have a breakdown as goes over what happened that day. She just stares straight ahead and says, "He's got babies killing babies and no one's going to testify on him. He's not going to jail. He's laughing at us." Like the guy isn't sitting right behind her, able to hear every word she says. They drive into the same area where they first coerced Caesar to give them info, and Yokas yells out on her car speaker, "Hey Two-sixers! Christmas is early this year!" The gang-bangers come out from the shadows. She takes Caesar out of the car and says, "No more babies are going to die because of him." Bosco is trying to calm her down, and Caesar confesses to stabbing Geronimo. Yokas tells them that a first-year lawyer can beat that confession and asks Caesar, "You don't need us, right Caesar? You solve your own problems!" She takes the cuffs off him, and he tries to get back into the car. She punches him and he pushes her. Bosco knees him in the stomach and they get back in the car and drive off. As they drive away, the Two-sixers descend upon Caesar and start beating the snot out of him.
Jimmy is standing outside of the station. Kim and Bobby walk in. Jimmy gives Kim all the child support he owes her. It seems he won big on all his football bets that day. What a guy. I wonder when Kim will sleep with him again.
While a sappy little sad song plays, we see Sully in his boxers. My eyes! My eyes! He is watching TV. Doc is at the station and takes Jerry's name off his locker. Bosco is taking a shower, but all we see is his wet head. Police are at the scene of Caesar's murder. Yokas crawls into bed with her daughter and starts crying. I pour myself another big glass of wine and heave a big sigh of relief that another episode is over.
