After finding out last week that Marcel has some kind of crazy teen witch on his side, the remaining Mikaelson siblings are desperate to find Elijah. Well, Rebekah is desperate. Klaus is really still more interested in winning back his kingdom from Marcel. For the most part, their goals are compatible, though, so they decide to work together to get things done. Part of their plan is to find out who ratted out Hayley when she went to the voodoo shop. This leads them to Katie, the witchy proprietor who happens to be in love with Thierry, aka Newsie, aka Marcel's right-hand vamp. It's all rather soapy and convoluted.
Now, as you'll recall, witches and vampires are enemies in this town, so it seems like this love affair would be forbidden, right? Normally, yes, but Marcel trusts Newsie so much that he lets the relationship continue. Klaus and Rebekah take advantage of this, setting up Newsie to kill another of Marcel's henchvamps when Katie's life is threatened. Having broken one of Marcel's cardinal rules, Newsie is doomed to be buried alive for the century. Rebekah goes to Sophie Deveraux, asking (demanding) that she use a locator spell to find Elijah. The only way she can do this without detection is if another witch serves as a sacrificial smokescreen. This would be Katie, who barges into the Quarter, magic blazing, all to find her vampire boyfriend. With Davina occupied by Katie's magic, Sophie is free to surreptitiously work her locator spell.
That's where Klaus's plan diverges from his sister's. Instead of letting the locator spell come to fruition, he kills Katie during her rampage. This ruins Sophie's ability to work her magic in secret, so she has to quit the spell. Marcel is so thankful that Klaus saved his life that he agrees to return Elijah. Yay! Daniel Gillies will be back! Oh, but wait. Davina refuses to let go of Elijah until she figures out a way to permanently kill an Original. Damn it!
While all this is going on, there's a masquerade ball full of vampires and politicians, Marcel continues to pursue Camille, and Hayley learns that she might be having a girl. Klaus seems happy about the latter, but what he doesn't know is that the witch who found this out also started speaking in tongues and said something that probably means we are all screwed. Want more? The full recap starts right below!Hayley reads through one of Elijah's diaries. She's lucky that it was written in totally modern English even though it's 700 years old. Elijah was worried that his siblings were starting to like their bloodthirsty nature a bit too much. He was especially concerned about crazy, cruel Klaus, and wonders if he'll be able to keep his family together. In the present, Klaus has stacked up all the recently dead vampires from Marcel's gang and lights them on fire, right on his front lawn. Not only is that sort of a showy place (and way) to secretly dispose of corpses, but it is absolutely going to ruin that patch of lawn. Also, is this supposed to be a display of Klaus's cruelty? Because those guys kind of had it coming. Rebekah is miffed that Klaus started the fire without her. They go back and forth about the reason those vamps are currently roasting like campfire marshmallows, and then the reason for that -- Hayley -- walks up to them and wants to know if they've got a plan. Maybe make s'mores?
She clarifies that she wants to know how they're going to find Elijah. Klaus launches into some to explain his history and his relationship with Marcel, and how Elijah is now in the clutches of a powerful little witch. All this to get to his answer, which is simply that he's going to ask Marcel. Hayley is a bit taken aback by this, but Klaus assures her that that's only plan A. "What's plan B?" Hayley asks. "War," Klaus says, then grins and clasps his fingers like Mr. Burns.
At Marcel's house, formerly known as the Mikaelsons' house, the current man of the house is getting himself fitted for a brand-new suit. "Damn, do I look good in a suit," he modestly observes. Thierry, dressed as ever in one of his Newsie outfits, chuckles because it's totally true. They've got the TV turned to the local news, which is abuzz with news of those two "missing" tourists. "My guy at the dock is gonna come forward and saw he saw those two fall into the Mississippi," Newsie says. "That's good," Marcel says, "because one of them is dead in the dumpster behind the county morgue and the other one is a vampire!" Clunky. Newsie mentions that their nightwalkers keep getting killed lately, and Marcel wonders if the werewolves are back in town. Newsie is more suspicious of the Originals who've just moved back into town, which is Klaus's cue to walk into the room and lay down some awkward.
