S03E20

Two Native-American dudes (one old, one young) walk into the caves. Oh, the older one is Elder Dude from the episode with the werewolf, who told Clark all about the legend of Naman and shit. The younger guy, Jeremiah, is all upset that Luthorcorp is "defiling [their] Holy Grail," and Elder Dude tells him to cool off, because they wouldn't be able to get into the caves without Papa Luthor's permission.

The two dudes turn a corner and come upon Papa Luthor and some lackeys. What is up with Papa Luthor's hair? I mean, it's always wild and wooly, but it has reached Jon Bon Jovi in that poster I had on my bedroom wall in 1987 proportions. And that's biiiiiiig. He thanks Professor Willowbrook (formerly Elder Dude) for coming, and awkwardly says that he didn't realize Jeremiah would be there as well. You'd think Papa Luthor would just be like, "Bitch, I didn't tell you to bring no guests! Get OUT!" Professor Willowbrook introduces "Jeremiah Holdsclaw, future leader of the Kiwatche people and one of my brightest graduate students." ["'Willowbrook'? 'Holdsclaw'? Is this cave down the hill from Hogwarts or something?" -- Wing Chun] Jeremiah kind of looks like a Native-American Jonathan Taylor Thomas crossed with John Denver. Papa Luthor sticks out his hand for a shake, and Jeremiah totally disses him -- a move that only a twenty-one-year-old (or Big Tom) would think was cool. Just shake the guy's hand. No one is impressed with your big political statement. Willowbrook asks to see the artifact Luthorcorp has found. Some chick named Miriam brings over a tray holding a baguette-shaped rock. Willowbrook picks it up, and Jeremiah pops a boner and blurts out that the artifact is something called "palac." Willowbrook is like, "Way to give up the goods, shorty." Papa Luthor wants to know what that means, and Willowbrook says that it's "ancient traditional cookware," like that would make Jeremiah so excited. Papa Luthor asks Jeremiah what he thinks, and Jeremiah poorly lies that Willowbrook is right, but that they should take it back to the museum to study it. Papa Luthor isn't having that. Jeremiah panics and snatches the artifact from Willowbrook. Papa Luthor asks Willowbrook to get it back. Willowbrook tells Jeremiah, "You're embarrassing me." Hee!

Jeremiah says that everything in the cave belongs to the Kiwatche, and he picks up a rock and smashes open the artifact. Light starts pouring out, Jeremiah starts moaning and groaning, and eventually he ends up holding a small knife with a glowing blade. Also, in that process, Jeremiah's giant round John Denver glasses were knocked off, so now he looks more like a cross between JTT and Dean Cain. Get it? His glasses were knocked off, and now he's a different person? Sound like anyone we know? Papa Luthor demands that Jeremiah give him the knife. Jeremiah backhands Papa Luthor, who goes flying through the air and takes down two lackeys. Awesome! Three different lackeys take out guns and start shooting at Jeremiah, like, don't you think that was a slightly extreme reaction? He knocked someone down. Shoot him in the head! Doesn't really matter, because the bullets hit Jeremiah, but have no effect. Everyone in the cave is confused and stunned, including Jeremiah. When he realizes what just happened, he stands up and superspeeds right out of the cave. Papa Luthor recovers and barks, "Find him! And bring me that knife!" Willowbrook looks around the cave and sees an ancient symbol of a being with two heads, one red and one blue. And credits.

Why is it always the golden hour at the Kent's farm? The sunlight is always gorgeous. Unless there's a tornado coming or something. Anyway, Clark wanders through the barn, reading something, and then somehow senses that Willowbrook is standing nearby, which is creepy. Say something, dude! Don't just stand there and wait for someone to notice you! Clark apologizes for not keeping in touch, and Willowbrook tells him that he doesn't have to make excuses, and calls Clark "Naman." Clark protests that he's not Naman, and that it's "just a story on a cave wall." Willowbrook says that he believed that too, until last night, when Clark's "destiny was revealed." He's going to die in a horrible car crash at eighteen? I think we all know what Clark's destiny is, unless the writers are planning to change the story significantly, so it's not that interesting to hear. What is interesting is how Clark will get there, and how Lex will become evil, and all that stuff. Willowbrook plops down a book, and we see that the page shows a picture of the knife Jeremiah stole.

Fade to Clark showing his father the same book, and explaining that the knife is called Palac, the Star Blade. Hee! That's a funny name. Clark further explains that the knife "is supposed to shine a light on the true Ziget, so Naman can identify and destroy his enemy." (By the way, I'm going with the closed captioning spelling of all these terms.) Pa Kent reiterates that Willowbrook thinks that Clark is Naman, and Clark says that it's kind of overwhelming, and that he doesn't think it's true. Pa Kent urges Clark to forget all this nonsense, but Clark says that some of the prophesies are starting to come true. For example, Jeremiah now has superpowers, and the prophecy said that the Kiwatche who had the knife would be given powers to protect it until they could give it to the true Naman. Pa Kent says that he only had Clark's powers for a short time, but that it "was very intoxicating." I love John Schneider's line delivery here -- he makes it sound like instead of "intoxicating," he wanted to say "arousing," but the censors put the kibosh on it. Clark realizes that Jeremiah isn't just going to give up the knife, and Pa Kent tells Clark to stop Jeremiah before Papa Luthor gets his magnificent-bastard hands on him.

Pete is in the Torch office, arguing with someone on the phone. Chloe walks in and overhears the end of the conversation, and makes a joke about forwarding all telemarketing calls to Pete. Totally not picking up on the fact that Pete is pissed off, Chloe continues to barrage him with questions about what the phone call was about, and why he's wearing the same clothes he was yesterday. Pete says that he was "laundry-impaired" this morning. Chloe asks if he wants to cover the gymnastics tryouts. Pete says she should find someone else. Chloe can't believe Pete is "passing up the opportunity to ogle Smallville High's women in spandex." Yeah, Pete! You're a big ol' perv, and everyone knows it! And Chloe is your perv enabler. Pete says he can't do it, and the bell rings, so he leaves for class. Chloe asks him to hang on so they can walk together, but when she looks up, Pete is gone. Why is it on television that no one actually leaves for class until the bell rings? In my high school, there was one bell that meant "Class is over!" and one bell that meant "Class begins" and you did your traveling in between those two bells ringing. If you waited for the bell to ring, you were already late. Then again, I was one of those nerds who was really nervous about being late for class.

Papa Luthor is at the Smallville Medical Center, getting his injuries checked out. First of all, I refuse to believe that Papa Luthor wouldn't have his own personal physician to come to his house for just such occasions. And second, that is the darkest exam room I've ever seen. You could show a movie in there. Is that really medically acceptable? Anyway, Lex walks in and says that he came as soon as he heard about Papa Luthor's "accident." Also, Papa Luthor is super-buff, and I think he might shave his chest. Just some trivia for you. Papa Luthor says he has some bruised ribs, but that he'll be fine. Lex says that there are rumors going around that the guy who attacked Papa Luthor had an artifact that gave him superpowers. Papa Luthor scoffs at such rumors. Scoff! Who is spreading these rumors? It has to be the lackeys. They need to be fired for committing such a security breach. Lex says that he doesn't live in the past anymore, and that maybe his father should follow his own advice on that matter. Lex offers to use his relationship with the cops to track down Jeremiah. Papa Luthor says that he's both touched and surprised by Lex's concern. Lex responds that despite their differences, he will always care about his father's well-being. Papa Luthor says that his ego got more bruised than his ribs; he wants to let the matter drop and avoid any more publicity. Lex looks sad that he has once again reached out to his father, and been rebuffed. I think I'm developing a huge crush on Lex. I know I'm hardly the first to feel that way, but it's a new and odd feeling for me.

At the Talon, Lana reads a letter from the Paris School of the Arts. Chloe watches her face expectantly, and when Lana doesn't start cheering, Chloe assumes that Lana didn't get in. Lana says that she did get accepted, but that she didn't get any financial aid, so she can't go. Seriously. Has no one in television land ever heard of loans? Chloe suggests that Lana talk to Lex, who is apparently the Dawson to her Joey in terms of college funding. Lana wanted to fund college on her own. Chloe says that she'd love to keep Lana in Smallville, but points out that Lex wouldn't let "one bump in the road keep him from pursuing his dreams." Lana doesn't seem convinced.

Clark goes to Kansas Central A&M to see what's up with Jeremiah. When he gets there, he finds that Jeremiah, who is a teaching assistant, not only has his own office with a door and everything, but his name is printed on the door! That's just insane. When I was a graduate assistant, we had one medium-sized room with six desks for about ten people. Jeremiah's office is totally trashed, and Lex is already inside, surveying the damage. Clark asks Lex if he did this, and Lex asks what his motivation would be. Hey, he didn't deny trashing the place. Clark wants to know why Lex is there, and Lex says, "You first." Clark actually falls for that, and lies that Jeremiah was going to help him with a term paper. That's his excuse? Oh, Clark. You really need to learn how to lie better than that. Lex reveals that he knows what happened in the caves. Clark pretends he didn't know. Lex says, "I'm surprised. Usually you keep such a close eye on everything that happens in the caves. For those term papers you're always writing." Hee! Lex is awesome. Lex reveals what he knows about the legend of Naman and Ziget. Clark says that Lex can't believe that, and Lex says he "likes to keep [his] mind open to extreme possibilities." Like man-on-superman loving? Clark says that Lex is starting to sound like his father. Lex says he guesses that was supposed to be an insult, and walks over to the wall of windows (!), closing the blinds on each one as he goes. Is he going to make a pass at Clark, and doesn't want anyone from outside to see? Lex says that he'd like to meet Jeremiah, if Clark gets in touch with him, and wishes Clark "good luck with [his] term paper." Lex walks out, and Clark looks at the blinds, which are painted with some sort of symbol.

Papa Luthor is at another part of the university, trying to convince Willowbrook to talk to Jeremiah. Luthor points out that Willowbrook is Jeremiah's academic advisor and "spiritual counselor," so Willowbrook can just explain that Jeremiah doesn't own the knife. Willowbrook points out that it doesn't belong to Papa Luthor either. Papa Luthor brings up money, and the possible funding of Willowbrook's research. Willowbrook thinks Papa Luthor is being silly, but Papa Luthor says that he's long suspected that there are "special people" capable of the things they saw with Jeremiah. Willowbrook says that the blade will crumble if Ziget touches it. Papa Luthor gets the crazy eyes, and asks Ziget's identity. Willowbrook says that he's "a bearer of darkness." Their conversation is interrupted when Willowbrook spots Clark walking toward them. Papa Luthor greets Clark and calls it a "coincidence" that they are both there, and then hightails it towards his limo. Clark asks Willowbrook what Luthor wanted, and Willowbrook says he wanted the same things Clark did, but he calls him "Naman" again, and Clark gets all pissed off. Willowbrook says, "One who denies his destiny can bring about as much pain and suffering as his greatest enemy." He's like Confucius! Clark says he's just there to help, and to prevent Jeremiah from hurting anyone. Clark shows Willowbrook a sketch of the symbol that Jeremiah painted on his blinds. Willowbrook looks worried and says that it's "the Slumbering Place." My bedroom? That doesn't look like my bedroom at all. Where's the television? And the sleeping cats? Oh, no. It's the spot where the Kiwatche used to perform death rituals. Clark asks if it still exists, and Willowbrook just stares at him. Well? Does it?

Cut to Jeremiah, doing Tai Chi on the set of Survivor Smallville. He's standing on a rock platform, with a bunch of torches lit around him. And he's still holding the knife, of course. Clark and Willowbrook arrive. Willowbrook calls out to Jeremiah, who says that Jeremiah doesn't exist anymore, and that the power of the knife has made things very clear. Willowbrook says that Jeremiah is just supposed to hold the knife for Naman, and Clark is Naman. Jeremiah protests that Clark isn't even Kiwatche, and Clark says that the knife's powers are dangerous. Jeremiah says that he's really strong, and that he can shoot fire from his eyes, so he must be Naman! Willowbrook warns that Jeremiah is misinterpreting the prophecy. Did you ever think that sometimes prophets are like hack fortunetellers, who just make really general statements and then hope that, someday, it applies to something? I'm a prophet! I foresee that at some point in the future, there will be a great man who will capture the world's attention! Am I talking about a political leader or the guy who will win the luge competition at the Winter Olympics? Who knows? Anyway, Jeremiah thinks Willowbrook is just jealous. Clark urges Jeremiah to put down the blade. Jeremiah says he plans to bring Ziget to the Slumbering Place and kill him. Clark says that they don't even know who Ziget is, so he might kill an innocent person. Jeremiah says that Ziget is far from innocent, and turns his back, raising the knife up in the air. Clark has an eyegasm and heats up the knife's blade. Jeremiah turns, smirking, and grabs the heated blade with his hand, but suffers no ill effects. He warns Clark to stay out of his way, and then blows up Willowbrook's SUV with his own eyegasm. Boy, he really loves the environment to go to such great lengths to rid the world of gas-guzzlers.

Back at the Kent farm (how did Clark and Willowbrook get home without a vehicle?), Clark tells his parents that he thinks Jeremiah is going after Papa Luther, because he thinks Papa Luther is Ziget. Ma Kent remembers that Kyla said that Ziget was supposed to start out as a good guy. Clark says that the prophecy isn't written down, so it's open to a million different interpretations. Pa Kent has so much mousse in his hair, it's ridiculous. Clark says that Willowbrook thinks he's Naman, and that Jor-El wants him to be a "Kryptonian warrior," but that he just wants to be Clark Kent. Pa Kent says that Clark is the only one who can stop Jeremiah, and also suggests that they shouldn't warn Papa Luthor about his impending demise, because then he might get his grubby mitts on the knife before Clark does. Clark doesn't know how to stop Jeremiah. Pa Kent responds, "Well, if he does have all your abilities, there's a good chance that he has your weakness too." Lex? Oh, I guess he meant green Kryptonite.

A realtor walks into the Talon with a client, and says that the "Faux-Egyptian décor" is "really tacky," but asks him to see the potential. Lana overhears this and looks over, all, "Wha-huh?" She asks the realtor, "Can I help you?" and the realtor gives an order for tea. Lana follows, explaining that there must be some sort of misunderstanding, because the Talon's not for sale. The realtor says that Lex Luthor hired her to sell it. Lana starts to complain that she's part owner and blah blah blah and the realtor cuts her off and says, "Take it up with him." Heh! Go, realtor! Shut Lana down.

At Luthor Mansion -- home to more stained-glass windows than your average cathedral -- Lana bitches to Lex about selling the Talon. Lex says he was going to sell it to get the money for Lana to go to Paris. Lana says that she just wanted Lex to buy her share, and she doesn't want to see it "turned into a Kinko's." Hey, when you sell your share, you give up your right to say what happens to the property, toots. Lex reveals that the Talon doesn't make much money, and he's not interested in the coffee business. Stupid, stupid Lana asks why Lex kept the Talon this long, since it's "such a terrible investment." Lex says huskily, "I thought that was obvious. I did it for you." He goes on to say that he enjoys that Lana is "honest" and has a "pure heart." Oh, for crying out loud. Lex deserves so much better. Lana gets choked up. Lex says that Lana is leaving, "so why hang onto something that's over?" Lex walks away, and then tosses back that maybe this whole thing is about Lana having second thoughts. Lana protests, and Lex says that Lana needs to decide if she's "the small-town girl who spends her days gossiping in the coffee shop with her friends" or "the girl who goes to Paris." Nice to know that's what Lex thinks Lana does all day at the Talon. No wonder they aren't making any money.

Papa Luthor shows up at the Kent Barn and tells Clark that he also wants to help the Kiwatche people. Clark tells him to stop "pillaging their cave." Dirty! Papa Luthor tells Clark to get the Kiwatche to return the stolen artifact. Clark warns Papa Luthor that the knife is dangerous. Papa Luthor says he thinks the knife is valuable in more ways than one. It could be a hat! Or a brooch! Papa Luthor theorizes that the knife was created from the same metal as the octagonal key, and they can use the knife to create a duplicate key. Where? The hardware store? Clark says he thought the original key was still in the cave wall, and Papa Luthor says that his researchers haven't been able to find it. Hmm, I wonder why not. Papa Luthor says they need to cut the crap, because he knows that Clark wants to unlock the secrets of the cave (dirty!) as much as anyone. Clark says that the Kiwatche don't take orders from him. Papa Luthor says that he knows both he and the Kiwatche think that Clark is "a very [deep breath] special young man," so they'll believe him. Papa Luthor also threatens to turn into Willowbrook's "very formidable nemesis." Clark mutters, "The friend who becomes the enemy." Papa Luthor is all, "Jigga wha?" Clark is all, "This barn belongs to my family, so good day, sir." Papa Luthor is like, "But I..." and Clark goes, "I said GOOD DAY!" Also, there sure are a lot of red and blue items hanging around the barn. Foreshadowing!

Clark goes to ask for Willowbrook's help, and Willowbrook agrees. Clark theorizes that maybe Jeremiah really is Naman. Willowbrook points out that Jeremiah didn't fall from the sky in a rain of fire. Well, there is that. Confucius say, "Jeremiah is desperate to be someone he's not, and [Clark] is desperate not to be someone [he is]." Clark takes this in, and then says that he knows he's not a killer. Willowbrook says that Clark might be surprised, and asks how he can help. Clark thinks he can get Jeremiah to come to him. Willowbrook promises to pass Clark's message through other members of the tribe.

Clark sits down in his loft to read about the prophecy. Jeremiah shows up, and apparently gaining powers robbed him of the ability to button up his shirt. He also has the knife in some sort of sheath on a bandolier. My husband would not shut up for the remainder of the episode about how stupid it is to carry a knife in that thing, because it's apparently meant for swords and such. He's kind of a geek. In a good way. Anyway, Jeremiah says he heard that Willowbrook now believes that he's the true Naman, and that before he kills Ziget, he has to kill Clark for being a false prophet. Clark whips out a lead-lined box containing green Kryptonite and holds it out like a shield. Clark struggles to fight the effects of the Kryptonite, but Jeremiah just picks it up in his hand, clearly unaffected. Clark's like, "Oh, shit." Jeremiah tosses the Kryptonite away, and they start fighting. Jeremiah plunges the knife into Clark's gut, and twists it. He pulls the knife out, and Clark falls to the ground. Jeremiah weirdly shows Clark the bloody knife, and then puts it back into its sheath. Is one of the powers that the knife bestows the power to be a drama queen? Jeremiah walks out of the barn, leaving Clark for dead. I hope Clark doesn't die!

Clark stumbles into the house, and tries to reach the phone, but collapses before he can call anyone.

Meanwhile, Papa Luthor rides somewhere in the back of his limo. The limo pulls off the road, and Papa Luthor asks Danny the Driver why they've stopped. The driver gets out of the car and...hey, that's not Danny! That's Jeremiah! And he's cleaned off the knife!

At the school, Chloe is leaving the Torch office, and she spots Pete stuffing something into his locker. She asks what he's doing there so late. Pete lies that he was going into the Torch office to work on his term paper. These students must be assigned a lot of term papers for them constantly to be used as a convenient excuse. Not that we've seen anyone actually in a classroom lately. Chloe lets Pete into the offices, and then says that she saw Pete's mom at the courthouse, and heard that he's up for a Federal judge position. Pete downplays it, but Chloe thinks that she's a shoo-in. Pete interrupts by yelling angrily, "You don't stop until you get your scoop, do you?" Chloe's face falls and she says that she was just trying to show some interest in Pete's life. Maybe if you were really interested, you'd notice that Pete is clearly living at the school, Chloe? Pete complains that not everything is public domain, and now he understands why Clark gets so mad when Chloe noses around in his life. Chloe looks hurt, but she gives Pete the keys to the office before she walks away. Pete flaps his hands like he's thinking of apologizing, but remains silent.

Ma and Pa Kent walk into the house. Where were they? On a date? They spot Clark lying on the floor, and rush over. They roll him onto his back and see the giant stab wound in his midsection. Pa rips open Clark's shirt, revealing a blue shirt underneath. Clever! Ma Kent runs to get something to stop the bleeding. She nearly slips and falls on a puddle of blood, and starts freaking out. Pa Kent rips open Clark's t-shirt -- which must have been pre-ripped like that of one Hulk Hogan for it to come apart so easily -- and tells his wife to hurry. He places his hands over the wound, and a glowing light shoots out. After a moment, Pa Kent pulls his hands away and the wound is miraculously healed. Ma and Pa Kent are both stunned. Ma Kent asks how he did it, and Pa Kent says that he has no idea.

The morning, Ma and Pa Kent are asleep sitting up in the hallway, waiting for Clark to wake up. They couldn't move him to the living room or something? Clark is wrapped in a red blanket. He wakes up and asks what happened. Ma Kent says that they found him bleeding to death. Clark checks out his belly and sees only a small scar, so he surmises that the blade was made of Kryptonian metal, and that his body healed itself. Ma Kent tells him what really happened. Clark asks how it happened, and Pa Kent says he has no idea. Clark thinks Pa Kent saved his life. Pa Kent thinks he was "just the vessel." Clark realizes he's talking about Jor-El, and adds that Jor-El's not done with Clark and Pa just yet. Pa Kent avoids the topic by saying that Lex called last night, and that Jeremiah has kidnapped Papa Luthor. Clark knows where they are, and prepares to go. Ma Kent doesn't want him to go, since Jeremiah tried to kill Clark before. Pa Kent tells his wife to cut the cord before Clark turns gay or something. Clark stands, and the red blanket flutters around him like a cape.

At the Slumbering Place, Jeremiah has tied Papa Luther to the rock platform, and blindfolded him. This seems way too kinky for The WB. You kind of have to wonder why Jeremiah conveniently waited until Clark recovered to start his death ritual, since he's had Papa Luthor since last night. Jeremiah vows that "Ziget" will "bring no more darkness to [his] people." An overhead shot reveals that Papa Luthor's chest is painted with some sort of symbol, as Jeremiah prepares to plunge the knife into Papa Luthor's chest. Clark flies in from offscreen and tackles Jeremiah. They fight. Pretty spectacularly, since they both have super-strength and -speed. The best part is when Clark picks up a giant fallen tree and swings it like a baseball bat, knocking Jeremiah out of the park.

Suddenly, Lex shows up and starts untying his father. Papa Luthor asks where Jeremiah is, and Lex says he doesn't know, but promises to get his dad out of there before Jeremiah returns. Somewhere nearby, Jeremiah and Clark run into each other at top speed, and the collision causes the knife goes flying up into the air. Clark ends up holding Jeremiah, who nearly does a backbend in Clark's arms. Oh, that's not gay at all. Now that the knife is gone, Jeremiah is vulnerable again. Lex helps his father sit up just as the knife falls. If Papa Luthor had remained prone, the knife would have landed in his head. The knife begins to glow as Lex and Papa stare at it. Clark watches from the woods nearby. Lex and Papa Luthor both reach for the knife, and it crumbles as they both grab it. Well, that was convenient.

Kent Farm. Clark tells his parents that the doctors at Belle Reve think that Jeremiah may never come out of his coma. Pa Kent looks on the bright side and points out that the knife can't hurt Clark or anyone else in the future. Clark says that, according to the prophecy, either Lionel or Lex is his greatest enemy. Ma Kent asks which one grabbed it first, and Clark doesn't know, but he thinks that Papa Luthor is a bad guy. Ma Kent says that Clark has to be open to the possibility that it might be Lex. Clark is like, "But I love him! You don't understand! How could you possibly understand?" Actually, he says he's not ready to accept that possibility. Pa Kent reiterates what the Kiwatche and Jor-El think will happen in Clark's future, and says that Clark can't let other people tell him what to be. Clark totally reveals that he wasn't listening at all, because he asks what Pa Kent thinks he'll become. Pa Kent says that Clark could be "the world's greatest hero or its most mild-mannered citizen," but that it's up to Clark.

Lana looks over some papers in the Talon. Lex walks in and asks if this is where they're holding the partnership meeting. Lana tells him that they got an offer on the place from Chloe and her father. They want to keep the Talon as it is, and let Lana stay on as part owner, so that she can work there when she's done with school. Is Chloe in love with Lana or what? That's going beyond the call of friendship duty. Lex thinks it sounds too good to pass up, so Lana says that she turned them down. Lex asks why she didn't consult him. Lana doesn't think Chloe wanted to run the place, and was just trying to hang onto the past. Did she ask Chloe? Maybe she really did want to run the place. Lana says that she doesn't want anything pulling her back to Smallville, because she's decided that she's the girl who goes to Paris. Lex nods and looks disappointed.

Chloe walks into the Torch offices late at night and finds Pete asleep on the couch. He wakes up and asks what she's doing there, and she asks him the same question. Why is Pete wearing his jeans, but no shirt? Interesting sleeping choice. Chloe sits down and says that when her parents split up, she hid in the garage. Pete doesn't respond. Chloe says that she got a call from Pete's mom, looking for him. Pete says, "Mystery solved." Chloe realizes that Pete didn't tell her about his mom's job offer because it wasn't a good thing. Pete says sadly that he thought his mom would turn down the job immediately, but that it doesn't look like that will happen. Chloe says that she knows from experience how difficult your parents' divorce can be, and asks if there is any chance that Pete's parents might work things out. Pete says that his dad is helping his mom move, so things must be bad between them, and it seems like an excuse for his mom to leave. Pete concludes, "It just feels like it's somebody else's life and not mine." Chloe gets tears in her eyes, and gives Pete a hug.

Clark reads some more of the prophecy book in his loft. Lex shows up and says he's been thinking about the prophecy, and has a new interpretation. Clark is all ears and hands over the book. Lex recaps the facts about Naman, which Clark claims is "just an allegory." Lex says that a man like Naman would be "a formidable enemy" who could "conquer the world" and "could become a tyrant if nobody kept him in check." Clark's like, "And?" Lex continues, "So I've been thinking: anybody who'd be willing to fight him would have to be pretty brave. Clark. Did it ever occur to you that maybe the hero of the story [dramatic pause] is Zigit?" Ooh. Deep. Over the credits, there is a quick snippet of the Superman theme.
