It's Halloween time. Jane is out of town (because a grandmother trying desperately to protect her witch granddaughter leaves her alone on Halloween) and Faye convinces Cassie to have a party. Another great idea. They invite Luke, the guy who Cassie was so horrible to at the school dance, so that's at least something positive. He's adorbs. Cassie and Faye are at some antique store and when she goes to pay with her credit card and the cashier (who looks at her oddly when he realizes who she is) touches the card, the mirror behind him cracks. Could it be the ghost of Suze Orman? She's not even dead.
Adam is pissed that Ethan told Diana stuff that made her break up with him. Cassie finds part of the witch-scratching knife that Simone used on her and shows it to Jake. She was going to talk to the owner of the antique shop about it, because she saw that he had a knife like that in his store, but Jake does some magic that makes her car not work. Then, he goes to the store and threatens the (apparently witch) owner to not say anything to Cassie about the knife. Yeah, it looks like he's getting ready to kill all of the kids in the Circle. His leader gives him backup, including LUKE. I knew it was too good to be true. He's going to the party and is going to try to kill everybody.
At the party, Faye is dressed as a sexy little red riding hood and Melissa is a sexy Hermione from Harry Potter- hiding in plain sight right there. Cassie is a sexy bumble bee. Diana is a sexy vampire. Adam tries to talk her into giving him another chance. The shopkeeper goes to Ethan and tells him that Cassie has a right to know about "John Blackwell." Sounds like that was her father's name.
Faye sees Jake at the party and tries to get him to sleep with her. They go to Cassie's room and start making out. Faye can sense that something is different about him. Outside, someone attacks Melissa and knocks her out, cause girl hasn't had a hard enough month. Meanwhile, Cassie is looking through Jake's stuff at Nick's house. She finds a knife with an interesting symbol on it... just as Jake walks in. Cassie knows it's a witch hunter knife. Faye comes in and takes her to try to find Melissa. Cassie gets a call from the shopkeeper, who tells her she's in danger. Jake interrupts him and is about to kill him when he says that Cassie has dark magic in her and he was trying to warn her. Jake kills him anyway, with this special witch-killing method. It looks painful.
The rest of the Circle get nabbed too and taken to the docks. Luke is there and we find out that he is from a legacy of witch hunters. They are all tied up and Luke is about to kill Cassie when she screams and it sets that mofo on FIRE. Like, dead fire. Luckily, no one destroys Cassie's house when she's away from the party. Jake is there with her and she tells him that she thinks she stopped Luke on her own. Meanwhile, Jane discovers that Henry, the father-in-law that Dawn killed, is dead. She gets his crystal and is chanting something over him when she gets knocked out!
Want more? The full recap starts right below! Here are Faye and Cassie walking into a store of creepy curiosities. It's Halloween time and we know that because someone is walking in a costume outside the store and there are also leaves blowing out there. Thanks, art department! The first thing that Cassie sees in the store is one of the scratchy knives like the one that Simone used to get blood from her at her house. Then, Faye, who must change really quickly, shows Cassie the tribal headdress and tribal bead halter-top/boob-barely-coverer that she thinks she might wear as a costume. Cassie says no, those are ancient artifacts, not a costume. BORING. Come on, Cassie. Be more fun. Now. Cassie says that they shouldn't draw attention to themselves and Faye says that they are in the perfect place for party decorations. Because that's the perfect segue into -- it's not a party that Cassie is having. It's a get-together. Jane is leaving for the night and she's having a get-together, not a party. She thinks it would be good for Diana and Adam, and Faye says that she must feel guilty that she tried to break them up. Actually, that's right, huh? She adds that the best way to look innocent is for her to get a boyfriend of her own. Then, she points at Luke, who is in the store. Cassie says that she spoiled her chances with him when she was such a horrible date at that dance. God, she was a horrible date. Faye drags her over anyway and invites Luke to the party (no, get-together). He's quiet but agrees to come. Then, Faye goes to change but asks Cassie to buy this weird ghost-doll thing for her as a reward for being so helpful. Cassie complies and the cashier looks at her credit card (Kids these days! It's probably just a bank card -- 31st National Trust -- but it has a "Member Since" area, which really only goes on credit cards, right?) and asks if she's Amelia's daughter. Then, when he goes to grab the card, the mirror behind him breaks!
Later, as Jane is getting ready to leave, Cassie casually asks about the shopkeep, whose name is Calvin Wilson. SUPER CASUALLY. No big deal, that mirror breaking. Calvin is a witch too. He's not doing a good job not "drawing attention" by owning a store of actual witch relics. Jane CASUALLY remarks that it could have just been a random surge caused by residual power and active power crossing. Now, I'm no witch, but that just really doesn't make sense. So, there are other witch families in town, but most of them left after the fire. Jane says she has to go to Henry's lake house -- that's the guy who Dawn killed. Cassie asks, obviously very casually, if Henry is an elder and didn't Jane want to avoid telling an elder that the Circle had been bound? I mean, don't these guys take their own predicament seriously? They are so blasé about the whole thing. She says that she's not telling him about the Circle. She just hasn't heard from him in weeks and is worried about him. Then, she confirms that her witch friends are coming over to spend Halloween alone in their house. Cassie makes it sounds lower key than even a get-together.
Adam is looking for the keys to The Boathouse on an actual boat when Ethan shows up. Adam is mad at him for telling Diana that he and Cassie were written in the stars. He thinks Ethan is trying to ruin his life since he has already ruined his own. Well, ruined life does the body good. I'm just saying Ethan gets freaking hotter with every episode. DWILF. Adam says that he wished Ethan would stop using fate as an excuse for how he treated his mother. He wonders if Ethan ever loved his mother, because the way he speaks of Amelia would indicate otherwise.
Diana is helping Cassie with decorations and says it will be a nice distraction, which prompts Cassie to ask if she'd spoken with Adam since Nick's wake. She hasn't and she doesn't want to talk about it, which is weird since she was just talking about it. Then, Melissa and Faye enter carrying a bloody mannequin. Diana's like, "What is that?" Faye looks at her like she's an idiot and replies, "A zombie" like "Obviously." She got the drama department to agree to let her borrow props for decoration in exchange for invitations to the get-together-quickly-approaching-party. Diana scolds her while Cassie is looking for cups. Instead, she finds part of the scratchy knife of Simone's. There's a crescent symbol, like the one she burned on the ground.
Outside, Cassie sees Jake. She tells him that she's going back to that store to ask about the knife. He's putting stuff in his truck that would indicate that he was either doing lawn work or planning to kill witches. He tries to talk her out of it, but she doesn't listen. So, he uses magic to keep her car from starting. Then, he drives off ahead of her and threatens poor Calvin with witch death by weird spell and witch blood. He can live if he tells Cassie nothing. He agrees to the terms. Cassie comes in later and Calvin tells her that he doesn't know anything. She leaves her number with him, in case he remembers something. Then, she breaks a bowl of fake eyeballs in order to secretly take a picture of the knife that he has in the store. Seems she could have done that without breaking anything.
Jake is standing at his family's graves when Melissa arrives. She assumes it means he misses Nick too, but that doesn't seem to be the case. He says that Nick was playing with things he shouldn't have. He says that he would have told Nick to stay away but...he wasn't there (pointed out by Melissa). She thinks it's a shame that they can't seem to be friends, but Jake says that he is nothing like the rest of them. He's nothing like the rest of most humans. Dear Lord, he's hot. This show. Best sexy faces.
Cassie and Adam meet at the clubhouse, to which he has brought a fancy computer that is able run a scan of the witch knife. He says that Diana broke up with him because he's been acting like he believed the fate stuff that his dad told her. He says that he doesn't know what is between him and Cassie, but he knows that he can't live without Diana. Oh well. Then, Faye comes in and taunts them for indulging in forbidden love. She didn't find any information about the knife in Cassie's Book of Shadows, but she did find a spell for attraction for a future date. Get it, date? Adam finds a picture that links the knife to old-timey witch hunters.
Jake is in the dock shack with that boss guy. He drops herbs into witch killer jars that he names after each of the people in the Circle. The guy suggests that they might have a problem trusting Jake and he reminds him that witches were responsible for the deaths of his parents and his brother. Then, he does this weird spell over the bottles and says that, with the addition of some blood, a personal artifact and a lit match, the witches will die. They boss got some help for Jake in completing the kill. One guy from out of town. Another from in town. It's Luke!
Cassie is waiting for Jake on her stoop when he gets home. She tells him that Simone was a witch hunter, not a witch. He asks if she only has the three symbols from the knife to go on, but she only had two on the broken piece of the knife and that's all that he knows that she has. She gets weird and he gets weird that she's weird and they separate.
Inside, Melissa and Faye make some paper bats fly, which is kind of cool. Cassie comes in...from dressing. She's completely dressed in a costume now. She tells Faye to keep Jake occupied, which she had already planned on doing. The party starts in earnest and it seems pretty tame. Diana is a vampire and blows off Adam in his Skeletor uniform.
Calvin pays Ethan a visit on his boat. I guess someone else works the bar? They haven't seen each other in 16 years. He tells Ethan that Cassie came to his store. Calvin insinuates that maybe Cassie isn't Amelia's daughter? He says that Cassie has a right to know about John Blackwell, her father, in order to protect herself. Then, he walks away.
Jake shows up at the party and Faye pounces. Luke arrives too and compliments Cassie's killer bee (sexy bee plus gun) costume. Meanwhile, someone chloroforms Melissa outside, which is so old school Dukes of Hazzard or Magnum P.I. -- I love it. No one notices because it's Halloween. Also, this is very Kevin Williamson. Faye takes Jake into Cassie's bedroom and starts making out with him, but he grabs a necklace of Cassie's first. Cassie is sneaking through Jake's things and sees the stuff going on in her bedroom. Faye stops because she senses something new in him -- distance. Cassie finds a knife with symbols on it in Jake's room. Before she can put it away, he walks in! She tells him that she's looking for Nick's MP3 player -- to comfort Melissa. He asks if she thinks stabbing the player will give Melissa closure. He says it's not his. Then, he shows her a bunch of other weapons and says that they are Nick's. He reaches for the knife and she sort of jumps. Then, Faye comes in and says that she can't find Melissa.
Cassie gets a call from Calvin. He tells her that she's in danger, just as he is met by Jake, who gets around like freaking crazy. Meanwhile, a dude in the party chloroforms Diana. Calvin tells Jake that he just wanted to tell Cassie that there is dark magic inside of her, so she can change. Jake doesn't think that people can change, so he drops a match in his jar for Calvin and it kills him but good. It looks like a painful way to go. Suddenly, Adam comes in and she tells him that Calvin called and was hysterical. Then, the guy chloroforms Cassie, except she pulls of the mask at the last moment and it's Luke.
At the dock shack, the Circle are all tied up and getting their blood drawn. Apparently, Luke comes from a long line of witch hunters. The boss guy orders Luke to finish killing them. Outside, Jake alerts the boss to the fact that Cassie has black magic. They need to kill her in a different way. Boss guy says that Jake is too close. Back inside, Luke tells Adam that killing him will be an act of friendship. Ew. He's about to drop a lit match into Diana's jar when Cassie screams, causing the jar to burst. Frustrated, he grabs another one. It's Cassie's. She screams again- and they seem involuntary -- and, this time, the jar bursts and Luke goes up in flames. I mean, he is burnt. Jake and boss guy are watching from outside. Jake is all TOLD YOU SO. Adam finally manages to break free just when they're no longer in danger. Cassie seems exhausted. They go outside to find Jake, who has cut himself with a witch scratcher. He tells them that he was chloroformed and dragged there.
Adam goes to Diana's house later. He says that she is his home. He wants to get back together, but she says no. Also, that she's not a "believer." As she's cleaning up after the party, Jake asks Cassie if she's OK. She tells him that she thinks that she stopped the witch hunter on her own. Then, she asks why he wasn't rounded up with the rest of them. He sexy smiles about the fact that she doesn't trust him but he doesn't mind having to earn it. She walks him out and locks the door after him.
Later Cassie checks her mail and finds an envelope. It's a super old document with the letters "JB" on them. Meanwhile, Jane finds Henry laid out on his floor, surprisingly not decayed. She immediately goes to a secret hiding place and pulls out a crystal. She starts chanting over Henry when someone slugs her in the side of the head and knocks her out. The mystery person takes the crystal and walks away.
