Rollerball Redemption

Previously on the Challenge: More scenes that have never been shown before. Christian has trouble understanding Ayanna, and accuses her of speaking "jive," which would be somewhat offensive coming from anyone else. Christian falls while skiing, drops some water balloons while in the trees, and slides off the greased pole. Christian looks very sad while the Real World team celebrates raucously.

The RW team dances joyously in their bus. In an interview, Julie claims that she's not being cocky, but she doesn't think her team can possibly lose, ever. Which means that they will lose tonight. Rebecca and Dan dance together.

In contrast, over on the RR bus, things are very, very quiet. I'm surprised that they didn't resurrect the "crickets chirping" sound effect from last week. Someone's foot sticks out of an upper bunk. Emily says that her team cannot take another loss. Laterrian hates to lose. Ayanna flips through some papers and says that she "isn't going to say nothing." Why was that scene in there? What is she even talking about? Another shot of the random foot peeking out of the bunk. In an interview, Emily (who is looking very pretty) says that their team doesn't "feel like a group at all." Wouldn't it be great if they won the mission and then they all overcame their differences and became best friends forever? In an interview, Ayanna points out that they have lost three missions in a row (and didn't we see this clip last week?) and that they "can't blame anybody. Nobody slacked off. Nobody didn't not show up." Has she been taking elocution lessons from Tami from L.A.? Anyway, Ayanna feels that the reason they lost is that they "just weren't as good as them." It's kind of refreshing to see someone admit that, and not play the blame game. Both buses are in a parking lot somewhere. Christian sits outside in the sun. In an interview, he says that while there's not one reason for his team losing, he still feels like if he hadn't fallen off the greased pole, his team would have won. Aw, poor Christian.

Julie opens a door with a Canadian flag sticker on it, and announces that they have a clue. The person speaking on the clue says that on their mission, they'll be "hanging with Mr. Cool," and then reminds Dan to "roll with it" and not "drop the ball." I totally didn't recognize the voice, but the on-screen graphic tells us that it was Flora from the Miami season. Dan looks shocked and stunned, and then it's dropped. As with the Devon-voiced clue, I wish there were some follow-up to that. How hard would it be, in Dan's interview, to ask whether he was surprised to hear Flora's voice or something? I know Dan is a big drama queen, but the look on his face was priceless, and I'm sure he would have something interesting to say about Flora. Oh, I guess they didn't have time to show that footage since they had to show someone's foot hanging out of a bunk. Twice. Julie reads the letter that contains more information. They have to be at some factory by 9 AM, and are supposed to wear their "uniforms with long pants." I guess uniforms just means their colored shirts. Syrrhosis has the biggest, most gaudy silver chain around his neck.

Christian sits on the bus, while Emily massages his shoulders. Laterrian says that he didn't know Christian had a girlfriend. Laterrian wonders why Christian didn't drop this information "the other day," when Laterrian asked Christian about his "status." Christian claims that he must not have understood Laterrian's question at the time, and wonders whether Laterrian was "speaking jive at the moment." Emily really needs to pull Christian aside and explain why everyone looks all uncomfortable when Christian starts to talk about "speaking jive." In an interview, Laterrian says that he and Christian "butt heads." Ayanna is sitting nearby, eating a sandwich, and they showed this shot so that you get the impression that she was listening to the conversation, and that it annoyed her. In an interview, Ayanna says that any time someone has a "duality of language," there will be communication problems. I really don't remember her having such poor language skills on her season. Or maybe I didn't watch closely enough. But "duality of language"? I mean, really. It sounds like she's trying to seem smarter, when she would have been better off saying that Christian is bilingual, or speaks two languages. In an interview, Christian says that there's a "little wall" between him and Laterrian, because they are so different. We see some more confusing conversation between Laterrian and Christian on the bus, which ends with Laterrian saying that something is wrong with Christian.

The buses pull into a dirt parking lot, and there's sped up footage of the RW team gathering their things. The editors must be bored. Cut to a movie set, where John "Die Hard" McTiernan is shouting into a megaphone. The teams walk in, and Ayanna starts screaming. In an interview, she explains that she just walked onto a movie set. Yeah, we got that from all the product-placed banners and such they just showed for Rollerball. Kameelah spots LL Cool J casually leaning on a railing nearby, accompanied by Chris Klein. Ayanna starts freaking out. God, simmer! She's screaming and jumping around and pointing at LL Cool J, who is all of fifteen feet away from her. She acts like she's looking at the pandas at the zoo or something. Ayanna points out the stars to Laterrian, who also reacts very visibly. Um, they're right there! John McTiernan welcomes them, and he speaks like a cross between Dr. Evil and Alan Rickman. I wonder if Rickman's character in Die Hard was based on him? McTiernan asks LL and Chris to take the teams on a tour of the set. Chris Klein introduces himself around, and then explains that they'll be going to the practice facility where their training took place for the movie.

While they walk, Christian asks Chris Klein what movies he's been in. Klein tells him about American Pie, and Christian says that he liked it. It is so sad to me that LL Cool J is getting so much more recognition. Not that I think he's chopped liver -- he is incredibly cool. But I thought Chris Klein would get more recognition than this. LL Cool J explains to Ayanna that his character in the movie doesn't actually rollerblade -- he drives a motorcycle instead. James calls LL Cool J "L," which is actually kind of funny, and then accepts a $20 from the producers for asking LL about the premise of the movie. I'm not going to repeat it here, because frankly, the movie looks incredibly stupid. I know it's a remake -- I just don't know why the remade it. While clips from the movie air, a disclaimer crawls across the bottom explaining that the movie contains violence and people should check the ratings before seeing it. Ah, how I love to see MTV covering its ass.
