The challenge for this episode is to create a look for a toddler. This seems crazy. The winning outfit will be sold as part of Heidi's new clothing line for babies, which finally capitalizes on the seeming decade that she was pregnant. They get assigned some sick cute babies, but really who cares when that cute baby is standing between you and Fashion Week.
They have consultations with the mothers, some of whom are very specific about what they want, which seems a little pointless to me since the object is to fit the look inside the collection of Heidi baby stuff. But, Tim did tell them to listen to the mothers' advice, so there you go. Then, they get back to the workroom and have these baby dolls that cry and stuff and they have to take care of them. They cry a lot. Elena names hers "Asshole." So, here they are designing while babysitting. Fabio is super sweet and attentive to his fake baby, which is really disturbing to Dmitry. Yeah, it's a little weird, but also very attractive. Go figure.
Seriously, all the babies cry at once and they never seem to stop. It's really stressful viewing. Heidi comes in and explains that they torture was so that they would understand the need for functional baby clothes. She also participates in the consultation. During the first pass, it seems like she's a big fan of Sonjia and Elena. And, she's not so fond of Dmitry and Melissa. Then, she tells the designers that they will be required to make a companion piece for the mothers. They emphasize though that it's the baby look that is most important.
They go to Mood again and have to take those damn dolls with them. Then, they go back to Atlas and have to take the dolls with them. Seriously, this feels a little cruel to me. Christopher brushes Fabio's teeth while he's holding his fake baby. Tim comes in that morning and takes the babies away to day care. They finish the baby clothes in the morning and move on to the mom clothes, but Melissa is really slow with the baby clothes. The mothers and children come in for a fitting. Christopher's mother client person is really difficult. Also, side note: has anyone watched anything online at the Lifetime TV website that didn't freeze every, I don't know, 30 seconds? Sonjia advises Christopher to not worry about the mother, because this isn't about her. All of the guys decide that they can't help Melissa anymore.
Hilary Duff is the guest judge, a new mom and still alive -- all things surprising. The babies are so cute on the runway. We're down to six designers, so they all remain onstage after the show. It's frankly ridiculous to hear the judges evaluating the fashion of babies. Michael Kors doesn't know that baby boys like to play like superheroes and that not all of us were pretending that we were Doris Duke's butler. After the judging, it seems like only Elena and Melissa get a majority of poor reviews. There are winners -- one for boys and one for girls. Sonjia wins for boys and Christopher wins for girls! Dmitry is in, as is Fabio. Wow and it's Elena who is out. I kind of feel bad for her at this point.
Want more? The full recap starts right below!Previously: Our designers were enlisted to create a look for the Rockettes. We started to see flaws in Sonjia and Melissa. Sonjia doesn't sketch, therefore rarely has a master plan; while Melissa is so slow that it's crazy. Melissa was awfully lucky because EVERYONE helped her. Like, I'm talking people sat down and sewed her shit. So, at the very least, we also know that she has fostered some mad good will during this competition. Christopher won the competition by a mile, while the loser was the real competition. Ven got a little conceptual and designed for the Rockettes as Jane Eyre and was sent home.
OK, forgive me for tuning out during the credits but did you know that the winning model is getting 25 grand in addition to her fashion layout in Marie Claire? This makes me even more surprised that we haven't seen any model drama this season. Shit, I'd be dropping laxatives in everybody's green tea if the stakes were that high. Do they know that it's 25 thousand DOLLARS that they win and not, like, buttons? Not to suggest that models aren't as smart as everouihn... sorry, I just bored myself.
It's morning at the Atlas Building and everyone is getting ready. Headband-like gear has been super popular amongst the designers this season. I wouldn't have known this about myself except for a brief summer fling with bandanas and Ray Bans on a barrier island in the Gulf circa a long time ago, but I guess I sort of really like it. At least, including Sonjia with her braided white rope band over slicked hair, everyone who has sported some head gear this season has straight up OWNED it. And, yes, I'm talking mostly about Fabio. The flower wreath thing? COME ON! It's tough to look super stylish and adorable at the same time. He manages that in a way that should be bottled. Melissa and Sonjia are performing their morning ritual and Sonjia is stunned that Ven is gone. Melissa is too. She interviews that him being gone means that this is all very serious and she has to design something awesome. Sonjia interviews that she has to make something great for the few challenges, because now that there are only six designers, you're either in the top or the bottom of the pile. There's no more sliding by. The camera pans to Elena who is silently drinking some beverage and staring out a window with drawn curtains. She interviews that she is going to claw her way to a spot at Lincoln Center.
In the boys' apartment, Christopher says that they are all one step closer to Fashion Week. Dmitry agrees that it is right around the corner. Christopher adds that it's going to feel so good when they get there. Power of positive thinking, I guess. Or, huge jinx. I don't know, counting your chickens early and all that makes me nervous. I understand the philosophy behind that sort of thing though. Also, he has the encouragement of having won three challenges, as he explains in his interview. He says that he wants to make a collection "so bad" and he wants New York and the world to see it.
Instead of going to Parson's today, they head to the Babies R' Us in Union Square. It's enormous and kind of enchanting, if you like that sort of thing. A place that huge really hits home how much freaking work babies are. Heidi and Tim are waiting for them. Dmitry interviews that Heidi has 105 children. Actually, that's only four, though I do understand the confusion. If you've watched this show for a long time, it does feel like she was pregnant for at least seven seasons. Having those children and not a maniacal need for more, more, more money inspired Heidi to create Truly Scrumptious, a line of clothing for babies. The challenge will be to create a look for the line. Christopher interviews that he's nervous because he has never designed for a baby before. Then, he pauses and says "babies." He must feel really pressured to be funny all of the time.
Then, we see these ladies appear with babies in strollers. I don't even want to get into it because people get so upset but... the strollers in this city. It's like being in a continual game of Frogger. People are merciless pushing those things. Everybody's cooing over the babies and they are awful cute. Elena interviews that they are the cutest babies she has ever seen in her life. Dmitry is not impressed. He interviews that they are all screwed because the babies are so small. Then, he adds that he is not sure how old the babies are but he's pretty sure that they can't talk. That actually makes them perfect clients, but he thinks it's like making an outfit for a cat. Literally. That would be an enormous cat. Also, I don't think he means "literally." It's funny, the more it's become a thing where people express how it bothers them when other people use the word "literally" incorrectly, the more you see it being used incorrectly. You'd think those groups might intersect and shrink each other at some point. Like, the people who use it incorrectly probably heard it from someone else using it incorrectly and they could be like, "Hey guy, you know, that's not actually what that word means." And, then, the people who hate the misuse could look back and tell their fellow warriors, "Chill out, I got this. It's getting better." Nobel Committee: email me and I'll provide you with my shipping address.
Gosh, these babies are cute. They range in age from 12-18 months. The babies are all matched via the button bag. Seriously, all of the babies are super adorable. Dmitry's client is sleeping, which Heidi thinks is perfect. Christopher says that he got the client that he wanted and he wanted her because she was wearing cute cheetah print shoes. What a relief. Imagine the situation if he'd just gotten some boring baby with no style. There will be two winners in the challenge -- a boy outfit and a girl outfit -- and they will be manufactured for Babies R' Us. That's awesome!
Elena says that she would like to win a manufacturing challenge, particularly if it meant taking it away from Christopher, who has won all of the other. Whatever it takes to motivate yourself, I guess. Heidi explains that fabrics and notions from her line will be provided so that whatever is designed will be cohesive with the collection. No one wants a dissonant baby clothes line. Tim says that they will have 30 minutes to consult with their clients and to sketch. They will have a day to work on the look and he tells them to be creative and listen to the moms. Why? It seems to me that success in this challenge would hinge on the look's ability to fit in with the other looks in the collection. Methinks they're just fishing for some designer/client drama.
Christopher tells his client's mother that her baby is too cute. "Thank you," she says. Christopher is wearing one of those voluminous scarves that he's so fond of. I feel like it gives him the silhouette of a Linda Dano-type and I'm not sure that's what he's shooting for. I'm also really not sure that he's not shooting for that, which warms my heart. Elena talks to Tamayo about her baby girl, Lumi. She says that she likes to dress Lumi in adult-looking clothes. She thinks that's cute. She tells Elena that she would be down for a blazer for the baby. Elena is going with that idea, but she needs to make it fun and playful.
Melissa talks to Sue about Guiliana. Sue says that she likes to keep Guiliana in very feminine clothing. Melissa interviews that, as soon as she heard "feminine", she thought "pink". And, she has never worked with "baby pink". It's just a color. It doesn't have teeth. That's not the way colors work. Calm down.
Dmitry is working with Etka and her little boy Arjun. He tells her that he's thinking of a jumpsuit and she asks him how he's going to make it edgy or trendy. He tells her that it will be very graphic. Then, he interviews drily that the boy is very cute and the mother is very opinionated. She doesn't really seem that bad. It seems though that everyone has seen this show at some point and now they all fancy themselves to be Tim Gunn. And, I guess, as consumers they're entitled to be that way, but gross. People should try to shut up sometimes, says the guy who writes thousands of words a week about someone else's TV show.
Sonjia works with Amy and baby Jude. Amy seems super chill and her baby is adorable. Amy says that she likes to dress up on the weekends and likes for her baby to fit in to that aesthetic. Sonjia says that she's excited for this challenge and maybe I believe her? Kate is the mother that Fabio is working with and her baby is Bobby. She tells Fabio that she favors baby clothes that are easy to get on. You see, Bobby's head's real big. Fabio reminds her that all babies have big heads. Then, we see him sort of shake hands with Bobby. It's really cute. Then, he says that his first job in NYC was as a babysitter. Also cute. He tells us that he has an ease with children. For the love of God, people, go vote for him for fan favorite right now. It's the least we can all do. Kate tells Fabio that she buys vintage baby clothes for Bobby and while that sounds too precious by like 10, she seems super cool and Fabio says that she's very stylish. He wants to make a 50's-style jumper for Bobby. As he's sketching on his HP pad, he hands the stylus to Bobby and asks him if he wants to sketch. Bobby just walks away with the stylus in hand and a grin on his face. Fabio just chuckles. Love.
Nancy, mother of Nile, tells Christopher that they like to dress very classic with a twist. He asks her to walk the store and see if she likes anything. She doesn't like anything. She picks at this fun little tulle skirt and mentions how Dior does a lot with tulle. Wow, it's been a while since I thought of the phrase "conspicuous consumption." Babies in Dior = conspicuous consumption. Christopher interviews that he loved the mother and daughter's style on first sight, but now is wondering how he will be able to make Nancy happy. He pitches some fabrics to her and she settles on white. She says that Nile always wears three-quarter sleeves. Damn, that's specific. Then, she describes for Christopher what a three-quarter sleeve is. Heh. She's really pretty humorless, this Nancy. She nixes some pockets that he was going to put on a jacket.
After the consultations, Heidi says with a grin on her face that, to better help them understand the challenge, the designers have a dossier and a "special surprise" waiting for them at the workroom. Then, she and Tim giggle. Elena interviews that she knows it's not a real surprise. Instead, she knows that it will be something fucked up. And that is the sound of a woman traumatized.
At the workroom, they all have tiny mannequins. Cute. But, there are also baby dolls in car seats. There are little notes from Heidi saying that the designers have to take good care of the babies. Elena knows the score. She recognizes them as the dolls that they give high school students to make them realize how stupid school is. Tim comes in and says that the point of all the babies is to show them what goes into making clothes for them. That doesn't make any sense. He says that the babies will cry and they will have to feed, rock or change them. Gross. It's clear that Elena is not happy at all about this and Tim just laughs and leaves. I can't tell if he's nervous or sadistic this season.
Dmitry says, "Does anyone else have a black baby? Sonjia, do you have a black baby? Do you want to switch?" I'm sure he was just trying to be nice, but that was unfortunate. Just keep your baby.
Sonjia interviews that she did not sign up to be somebody's (something's) babysitter. Christopher puts his young charge down and comments that it looks like everything will be fine, but then everybody's babies start losing their shit. Fabio comments that this is all going to be really interesting. They all get to work while trying to care for their dolls.
Now, here's the thing, something inside of me was maybe a little embarrassed and scared when this part happened, but ultimately it made me melt (a result that produced its own unique set of feelings of embarrassment and fear). Fabio, with complete earnestness, tells his baby that he's going to put it down but that he will be right back for it. He says it with so much care. Dmitry comments that Fabio is talking to his doll. In fact, he interviews that Fabio is obsessed with the baby and maybe doesn't realize that it's not real. God, Dmitry, he just wants to take care of something! Leave him alone! Seriously, I'm a puddle. I want to have a doll with Fabio. I'm nervous about it, but I think we can make it happen.
Fabio interviews that he was an only child and coming out to his mother was a big deal because she felt that she would never be a grandmother, but the fact is he would like to be a father one day and thinks that's a very real possibility. Oh my gosh, so, Fabio, I've got a few loose ends to tie up, such as successfully transitioning into actual adulthood and maybe handling a nascent sleep disorder, but we can totally do this. He interviews, this time holding the doll, that he thinks he would be a good father because he's very patient. And, I'm really driven (neurotic?)! Between the two of us, we could create a Zen beauty pageant contestant (winner) or a really great social worker. Dmitry, on the other hand, says that he will not be having babies anytime soon.
Melissa comments that baby clothes have to be easy to put on and take off. Christopher notes that he's competing with Melissa and Elena for the girl's outfit and he feels completely confident that he can win. Well then. Dmitry says that you can't go "cutesy fruitsy" with the boy outfit. He wants to make a cool jumpsuit. Elena is not sure how she's going to get her work done with her crying doll. Melissa's baby is quiet, so she's having an easy enough time. Sonjia says that she's making a cross between a suit and a sweatsuit and it's something that she could imagine her boyfriend wearing. That's cute. Christopher seems that he's having an easy enough time taking care of his doll. He interviews that Nancy was very specific about what she wanted and dropped the names Rick Owens, Lanvin and Baby Dior. Jesus. Seriously. She's a baby.
At one point, all of the babies start crying. Fabio goes to his and we see him interview that Sonjia thinks that his baby is making all of the other babies cry. He thinks that is complete bullshit because he's polite and so is his baby and maybe the child is just going through something right now. Nothing about this doesn't seem perfect still. No one knows what to do for their babies. At one point, Christopher says that he understands why Judy went off the deep end with Liza. It's all pretty funny, but this must have been such an annoying distraction for them.
Tim comes in and asks everyone how they are doing and Christopher answers that he needs a drink. Heidi is there as well and reiterates that bullshit about how they had the baby dolls to teach them some sort of lesson. They start their consultations with Elena, who has created a blazer with a lot of adornments. Tim jokingly asks if the jacket has shoulder pads and she laughs and says that she has stayed away from them. Tim says that must have required a lot of self-discipline, which seems a little rude. Don't box people in, dude. Dmitry interviews that Elena's jacket is cute, but she doesn't know when to stop. I think he may be speaking of all the doo-dads that are on the jacket right now. Tim asks if it's practical in regards to cleaning. Elena doesn't know, so she asks Heidi. She replies that she knows they have to be practical, but her line doesn't want to make just basics. She says that the jacket is so cute and that Elena will have to make something for underneath that doesn't mess it up. Elena interviews that Heidi never usually likes her stuff, so that felt good.
Fabio explains that he is rethinking a '50s school uniform. He's using one of the prints for the line as a liner and Heidi says that it would be nice if you could see a little bit of it. She says that moms like to dress the babies in something cute and happy. Tim suggests that the look could use a little whimsy.
Dmitry shows them his jumpsuit and Heidi says that the straps at the shoulder make it look like the baby is carrying a backpack. Dmitry asks if that is a bad thing. Tim just suggests that the straps make the outfit seem disjointed. Dmitry asks if he should employ buttons down the suit and Heidi says that she wouldn't unless he had to. Sonjia interviews that she can't imagine dressing her baby in Dmitry's "firefighter jumpsuit". She says that it looks homeless to her. What a horrible descriptor. Heidi suggests that he make it cuter.
Sonjia shows them her blazer. Elena interviews that she loves Sonjia's jacket. Heidi tells Sonjia that the pants for the suit shouldn't be "old man." Should anything really? Clothes-wise, at least? Maybe cardigans. Heidi suggests to Sonjia that there be more detailing so that the buyer feels that she's getting more design for her buck.
Christopher has put together a white three-quarter sleeve jacket for the Tim and Heidi to see. He explains that Nancy was very specific about all elements of the jacket, including the white, which Tim feels is impractical. Heidi says "Why not?" and says that certainly it's something that you would throw in the washer after one wear, but it may still have a place in the line. Melissa comments that the jacket is similar to the one that she designed a few challenges back. She says "Don't be stealing my stuff." OK, Melissa, he probably sewed half of that for you so forgive him for creating something a little similar. Christopher is toying with the idea of adding some flower notions to the back of the jacket and Heidi wonders why he doesn't make a whole skirt with flowers. He says that it's a cool idea. Christopher seems like a smart enough guy to realize that someone just sort of handed an idea to him.
Melissa shows them the leggings that she made and, lo and behold, there's already some similar leggings in the collection. Who's a copycat now? She says that she is going to make a denim jacket with a hood, but she seems really unsure now. Heidi asks her what the "fun fact" is in the outfit. She doesn't really have an answer. Dmitry says that it looks like she's in real trouble. Heidi says that there's not much design in her look.
Heidi says that there is now a twist in the challenge. They have to create a companion look for the mom's to wear. Boo. Tim says that they will have the whole day to work, so that's good. They also emphasize that the baby look is the main focus of the challenge. They'll go to Mood in a little bit, but they still have to take the dolls.
Melissa is not sure what she's going to do. Sonjia starts to sketch something! She's learning to sketch! Elena is not happy about having to make a new look. Tim comes in and everybody packs up their babies. At Mood, Tim reminds them that the challenge is about the baby look. He says that they shouldn't worry about pleasing the mother like she's a client. She's there to accompany the baby. Christopher grabs an Oscar de la Renta print. Melissa reminds herself to not have a baby. Elena asks Swatch the Mood mascot why he can't be her baby.
Back at the workroom, Christopher feels confident about where he is. Melissa knows that she has a lot of work to do. Elena decides to make some bloomers that can be easily removed. These poor people have to take the babies back to Atlas.
The morning, everyone is awoken by the damn dolls. Christopher helps Fabio brush his teeth as he's rocking the baby. At the workroom, Tim comes in and asks them how their night was. Dmitry says that he barely had time to put on his pants. Tim tells them that he's taking the babies to daycare. Screams of elation. Tim seems shocked by how happy they are to get rid of the babies. He loads them up in a wagon and ships them out of the room. Sonjia says that it's a good thing, because she had planned on neglecting her baby anyway. Muriel!
Fabio thinks that Elena has made the wrong choices with her colors. Christopher points out that Melissa is making a tube dress and he thinks that putting a baby in a cocktail dress is maybe not the best idea. Slowly, the designers start moving onto the look for the moms. Everyone but Melissa. Christopher says that Melissa is really behind. He loves her but sometimes he thinks that she needs to fucking focus. Ouch.
Elena asks Sonjia how she drapes a dress and Sonjia answers that she had never done it until she got to Project Runway. You don't say? Then, Elena asks the "Draping Queen, I mean, King", Dmitry, how you sew the pieces together from the drape and he tells her that you hand-sew everything. This is not good news to her.
The moms and babies come in for fittings. Fabio thinks that Dmitry's jumpsuit is awkward because the hood is pointed. It seems kind of Where The Wild Things Are to me, which I think is pretty cool. Melissa's cocktail number is not fitting on her baby and I'm not sure there's enough time for her to diet. She doesn't have anything for the mother.
So, Christopher lays out his look for Nile and Nancy offers that she doesn't like it at all, under any circumstance. Shitty. He interviews that, if he goes home for this challenge, he will be devastated. Then, Nancy tries on her dress and is equally critical. She says she feels like she's wearing a tablecloth (let's be clear, this is a GORGEOUS print -- Nancy just doesn't like flowers) and that the shape is very simplistic. I'm sorry, she must have been told to be confrontational. She almost seems like there's something wrong with her the way she's being so rude and he's not asking for it at all. In fact, I have to say that he does a remarkable job of keeping his cool. He doesn't even really hate on her later, which I also find pretty amazing. Sonjia reminds him that this client challenge is not really about the client and he shouldn't worry what "Mary J. Blige" has to say about the outfit. But, if Mary J. Blige had something to say, you better listen. "Mary J. Blige"? We don't care what she has to say. Christopher again displays his excellent control over himself and the public perception of himself by working really hard to not laugh at Sonjia's joke.
Melissa is seriously so behind when they leave for the night. The morning, as they're getting ready, the boys decide that they can't give Melissa anymore help. At the workroom, Tim greets all of them. I wonder if anyone is going to put heavy make-up on their baby. Melissa is stressing and Fabio thinks that she's her own worst enemy in the challenge.
The moms and babies come in and Nancy comes right up to Christopher and says that she was worried that he was upset. See? She's completely nice. They must have made her act like she did. He says that he was, in fact, a little upset, but they want to have a good day. Dmitry's baby is so cute. He thinks that his jumpsuit is graphic and modern while Fabio's is predictable. Both he and Dmitry really like the suit that Sonjia made. Ya'll, Melissa asks her mom to sew some buttons onto the baby outfit. I'd be worried about poking the baby! Hair and make-up happens and it looks like all of the moms are having a great time. Nancy seems content with her dress. As they head out of the workroom, Tim has to stop Melissa from working. "Had to go some time," she says as she sulks out the door.
On the runway, Heidi greets the designers and introduces Michael, Nina and guest judge Hilary Duff. They really couldn't think of someone more qualified to talk about baby stuff? And, do we really call Hilary Duff an actress? Seriously, I'd have felt better about Jessica Alba being up there and I barely think she's qualified to be an organ donor. I had no idea I felt so strongly about Jessica Alba.
The show begins with Fabio's look. It's sort of an old school bathing suit silhouette and it's so cute and modern. Mom is wearing a little dress in a gray and white print that's adorable. Melissa's look is . Her baby dress rides up over her diaper and the shorts she made for the mom are fucked. Dmitry's look is . The jumpsuit is very cute. There's a graphic of a car on the front and it's red with the pointy hood. I love it. Sonjia's look is . It's a gray sweatsuit with a blazer and print shirt with a wide neck. So cute. So modern. The baby, Jude, is sick cute, even Hilary Duff has to testify. Nancy and Nile are and they look so cute. She should really be happy with that dress -- it makes everything about her pop. Christopher says that it looks like they're going to brunch and he loves the feeling he gets when he looks at them walking down the runway. The baby dress has flowers all over it and it's so cute. Elena's look is . It's the blue blazer with a pink top and green pants. It kind of seems a little dissonant, like the pieces don't really belong together. The mom is wearing a super slinky number though that is so cute and there are no shoulder pads!
Afterwards, Heidi says that they all did a good job. They bring out one baby at a time and Amy and Jude are first. Everyone is in love with this baby, because he has just the happiest face. Hilary says, "What a flirt," which is one of my least favorite things that people say about babies. I just don't get it. Maybe that's my fault (it isn't). Sonjia says that she was going for a "little man" look that was still casual. Heidi says that she quite likes it. Michael likes that it looks polished but modern. They also love the maxi dress and denim jacket that Amy is wearing.
Melissa's mom and daughter are . Heidi loves the jacket that the baby is wearing, but hates how the tube dress keeps riding up. Hilary thinks that side zippers on baby clothes can be kind of dangerous with wiggly kids. Michael loves that her mom is wearing shorts. Fabio says that he was trying to make something easy to wear and fun. Michael loves that it seems nautical. Heidi loves it too, but she thinks that his mom dress is too old. Nina likes all of it. She appreciates that the baby outfit is not too "baby", because he's 14-months and no longer a little baby. I think I registered a look of fear on the mom's face, like she didn't realize her baby was growing up. That was sad. Elena's team comes out and she explains her look. Michael likes the construction of the jacket, but he doesn't feel like the other pieces connect. It's like a baby sample sale. Heidi doesn't like the pants. Hilary loves the jacket, so does Heidi. Nina thinks that the jacket is the problem. It's not practical. She thinks that the mom's look is the best of all of them, but that's not what this challenge is about.
Dmitry's baby is asleep and they just leave him like that. He does show that the hood unzips to make a cape. Michael thinks that this is a flaw. Heidi points out that lots of kids clothes do this. "Is this a trend?" he asks. Nina looks at him like he's from Mars. "They're dreaming that they're superheroes," Heidi explains. Michael just had to be informed that kids like to play around. Hilary thinks that the outfit is borderline costume, but she really likes it. Nancy and Nile come out and Christopher explains their collaboration. Nina says that it looks adorable on the runway, but it's not very practical. Heidi likes it a lot. Michael isn't crazy about the jacket, but he really likes the dress. He loves the dress for mom. Hilary loves all of it, including the jacket. Heidi thanks all of them and says that this is going to be a tough decision.
They go backstage while the judges confer. They liked Fabio's look. Nina thinks it was boyish and fun and practical. They feel like Sonjia's look could be mixed with a bunch of other stuff. Heidi liked Dmitry's also. They feel positively about Christopher's look too. Michael repeats that Elena's look was like a sample sale. They think that Melissa was off the mark with her tube dress.
The designers return to the stage and Heidi repeats that they all did very well for the this challenge. Sonjia is the winner for the boy look! Christopher is the winner for the girl look! They're both very excited. Dmitry is in. Fabio is in. That leaves Melissa and Elena. Melissa is... in. She goes backstage and gets hugged by everyone. Heidi tells Elena that she is great and can be proud of herself. She leaves without thanking everyone, which I kind of admire. She interviews that this sucks but she is a little relieved. Tim comes in and says that everyone did a fabulous job. He says that he doesn't know what they will do without her stream of expletives all day long. She interviews that she's glad she stuck to who she is and is content with the outcome. And, it looks like she is overwhelmingly on her way to winning the fan favorite, so there's that.
