Makeover

Riddle me this: can you or can you not polish a turd? I'm gonna leave you with that for a moment.

Done yet? Well, the answer is "yes." By the end of this episode, Santino was a shining star.

The challenge was for the designers to makeover a fellow randomly chosen designer. Santino got Kara. Kara got Santino. Chloe got Nick. Nick got Daniel. Daniel got Chloe.

Riddle again…actually, just a question. Doesn't a makeover suggest a change in look? It's not called a "makesame," right? Well, there was much discussion about how someone would or would not wear the design made for him/her.

Daniel is lucky that he was immune, because the judges hated his look for Chloe. Santino was just a dick for the whole episode. Chloe won the challenge with her look for Nick. Nick -- I'm so stunned by this -- was sent home. At least he looked good getting eliminated. I don't know, I'd never really contemplated this possibility until last week. I'll share my healing process in the recap.

Previously: the designers were challenged to make a dress out of plants. Tim Gunn informed the designers that the winner of the challenge would have immunity for the challenge. We found out that Daniel Vosovic has been out to his parents for only a year. Well, he wasn't "out" in the challenge. Har. Quite the contrary. He won it. Lambly Andrae Gonzalo was sadly sent home. Guys, we're down to five designers! The heat is on.

Kara and Chloe, as they are readying themselves for another day in the workroom, discuss their surprise at Andrae's elimination. Chloe interviews that she was shocked to see Andrae leave, because she thinks he is a great designer. For most of the season, we've usually gotten Chloe's take on the elimination. This is the first time she says that the eliminated designer was talented. I hope that provides some comfort for our little lamb, wherever he is.

In the boys' apartment, Santino performs a dialogue with himself. "Santino?" "Yes, Santino?" "Do you miss Andrae?" "Yeah, I miss Andrae." Then, he smiles. Okay, it's taken me this long to nail it. Do you know who Santino looks like? For real, he very closely resembles the shoe bomber. Santino interviews that Andrae had been the glue that held the boys of 35D together. Wow, that's a fairly generous appraisal of Andrae's presence in the apartment. It would almost appear that Santino possessed some sort of self-awareness or interest in others. Luckily, he prevents reality from fracturing entirely by reminding us that he considers himself one of the best designers there and he thinks he will make it to Fashion Week. Even then, he says it with a sort of measured, un-assholey tone. Is Santino learning and changing here?

Nick seems a little embarrassed about being in the bottom two designers for the challenge. He vows to "step it up" for this challenge. Do people not on reality television use the phrase "step up"? Besides athletes? I mean, honestly, I can't even remember the last time I heard even an athlete say it. It's a phrase that has lost its meaning. It's not that I don't understand what he's trying to convey. He wants to try harder. But when I hear people say "step it up" or one of its permutations, it usually feels like they themselves don't really connect with the phrase. Because it's kind of empty now, isn't it? When it's said, it's used more to deflect any doubt of someone's competitiveness than to announce a change in attitude or strategy. Anyway, Nick gives us no elaboration of what his stepping up will entail.

We see Daniel talking on the phone to family or friends. He sends his love to someone named "Sarah" and says goodbye. Daniel, whose immunity suits him quite nicely (he looks really glow-y and pretty in his interview), reminds us that he could send "tassels and a zipper" down the runway for this challenge. It don't matter 'cause he's safe. Immunity is a "great feeling," he adds.

On the way to Parsons, we hear Daniel say, "And then there were five." Feeling good that I haven't used that phrase in a recap this season.

On the runway, Heidi enters in a super-flattering black pantsuit. She tells them that for this challenge, they will have a very difficult client: "One of your fellow designers." I don't think anyone was expecting this. Many mouths agape. She says it's going to be a head-to-toe makeover. She's got the lovely black velvet button bag to see who will be designing for whom. She starts with Santino. He will be designing for Kara. Kara will be designing for Santino. Nick for Daniel. Chloe for Nick. Daniel for Chloe. They seem kind of uncomfortable with this. Everyone has a kind of glued-on smile. I'm guessing that, at this point, the idea of having to work so closely with another designer is hard to love. They're all getting pretty competitive, and who wants to measure and consult and fit their competition? Not to mention having to trust them to model the design to its best advantage. They don't seem paranoid or anything, but the client/designer relationship is already fraught with a potentially uncomfortable push and pull of interests. With the extra baggage they have as competitors, designing for each other must seem as appealing as being your own parents' couples therapist.

I'm really sad that Andrae's not here for this challenge. Imagine the snappy short-shorts that someone would have designed for him.

Now, it's time for model-choosing. Rebecca and Danyelle enter the runway. Uh oh, Danyelle is, like, already crying. Daniel delicately chooses Rebecca and wishes Danyelle "better and bigger things." Heidi seems touched by Danyelle's emotion as she auf-wiedersehens her. Every designer blows Danyelle a big kiss as she sobs off the runway. There's a model pile-up in the back as all of the girls hug Danyelle. She interviews that she has grown attached to everyone and the thought of not seeing them is what has made her so upset. Well, she's a beautiful girl, so I'm sure she is going to have a great career. Bye, Danyelle!

In the workroom, Tim addresses them. He tells them that they are "reinventing the look of each other." He also tells them that they will model the designs, which I had kind of assumed, but the designers register some surprise. They will have two days and $200 for the challenge. They all look like they've just hit the jackpot. Tim gives them an hour to consult with their "clients." Then, they'll go shopping.

Nick tells Chloe that he would like a Eurotrash "suited" look. Chloe interviews that she wanted her design to look expensive (which is a favorite goal of hers). She's going to make Nick "sophisticated," she says.

Santino tells Kara that it would be funny if she made him "preppier, cleaner cut, more All-American-looking." This is going to be easy for her. Arguably, you could do just about anything to Santino and it would bring him closer to preppy. He's like a six-foot-hundred-inch Tootsie Pop with preppy at the center. A single lick and you're closer to preppy. ["Licking and Santino…wherever we just went, I'm not sure I like it here." -- Sars] Kara interviews that she thinks Santino is prepared to "shave and cut and groom." Her obvious elation at this prospect is cute. It jives with the part of her that's high-strung that she would be thrilled for Santino to clean up. I bet she's been dreaming about it since the moment she met him.

Daniel tells Chloe that he wants to make her a "fun-loving party girl." She looks like she's enjoying the idea. Daniel says that Chloe is "the perfect person to design for." Then we see him tell her that she will not have to buy a single drink for herself in the outfit he's going to make for her. I'd like the version of that outfit that makes people buy you real estate.

Nick tells Daniel that he wants to dress him up. He's thinking of a slim suit. In his interview, he says he wants to make Daniel look like a sophisticated European. Is that the same thing that he requested for himself? Daniel seems into the idea.

For herself, Kara would like to be funkier and "more adventurous." In regards to the competition, I find it a little strange that no one is taking the opportunity to fuck with another designer. Like, if Santino were designing for me, and I was competing with him, I'd have the urge to say, "You know what I'd really like? If you made me something that looked a lot like your lingerie. I think I could fucking SELL that look. Do it. Really, Santino. Please make me the lingerie. I have to have it." I guess they are all to be commended for playing fair, though telling Santino that you want to be "more adventurous" might just be enough to set his inner madman to work. He interviews that he wants to make Kara a jumpsuit that will "show off her body in all the right places." For a guy who has been accused of not thinking about the woman for whom he is designing, dude is treading on dangerous ground. I mean, does Kara seem particularly jumpsuit-y to you? Do you feel like she hides her body? He's scaring me. Santino continues, saying that he is going to move Kara away from her "free-spirit, granola, kind of hippie" look.

Tim takes everyone shopping at Mood. They have forty-five minutes to shop. We see Kara ask Santino's opinion on a fabric, which blends into Santino interviewing that he finds Kara to be "weak." He says that he picked out the fabrics that Kara would use in her design for him. Nick says he had a difficult time working with Santino, and he feels for Kara.

As the designers are getting to work at Parsons, Nick describes the fabric that he is using for his design for Daniel. It's Italian cashmere. He seems to be really thrilled with it. Now Santino's interviewing that Nick's fabric is too feminine and shiny. I'm beginning to sense that we're supposed to think that these guys don't like each other. Without Andrae's glue, it was bound to fall apart. Nick's wearing a shirt that reads, "Nicotine, Vodka, Caffeine." It's either a priority list or a grocery list. Since vodka is second, I'm going to assume it's a grocery list. Nick quickly dresses his mannequin with the pattern for the suit. He interviews that making a suit jacket, slacks, and a shirt is pretty ambitious, but he has a "secret weapon." Uh oh, this might be the vodka talking. Oh, it's that he has done menswear before.

Nick tells Chloe that the vest that she makes for him should be tight. She's really surprised by this, and chalks it up to her not knowing anything about menswear. I actually think they are having a difference in tastes. I'm starting to agree with the judges a bit about Nick's taste level. It seems like a lot of his ideas are just a little too much. Just too much…flair? Too shiny, too busy, et cetera. Chloe interviews, cool as a cucumber, that she has absolutely no idea how to do the work involved in this challenge. She doesn't even know how to put her garment together because she never does menswear.

Everyone is impressed by how quickly Nick is progressing with his design. We see Daniel modeling the mock-up of the slacks. Looking pretty scrumptious. Nick doesn't think his speed is impressive. In fact, he thinks that everyone else needs to "catch up."

As the night grows older, Daniel introduces a little game of "Would you rather…?" He gives two options, and people have to say which of the options they would rather "do." Okay, this is kind of juvenile, but I still love it. Things like Daniel's love of Santino's Tim Gunn impression, and this, make me really like him. He is interested in other people and their creativity. That would seem to bode well for his future, not only as a designer, but also as a person.

Daniel's first "Would you rather...?" is "…have sex" or "…make love." Chloe is in the "…make love" camp. Santino votes "…have sex." Didn't see that one coming, did you? Daniel explains that "the Q and A doesn't just have to happen on the runway. It can happen in the workroom as well."

Nice sentiment, but it begins to all fall apart. Santino, seemingly starving for attention, starts to wig a little. Daniel asks, "What's a food that you absolutely dislike?" Nick begins, "As a young kid --" Santino interrupts with, "I got one. Yeah. Eating my feces is the key to everything." I don't really know what to make of that. Part of me is laughing a little bit about a story that begins with "As a young kid" being interrupted with someone talking about poo-eating. But then, I also find it kind of stupid. It really smacks of playing for the cameras, because it doesn't seem to have any meaning in the context of the workroom.

Nick interviews that Santino is driving him crazy. We hear Santino tell the other designers, "Never more in my life do I notice how many times I have to shit in a day." According to Nick, Santino has been doing this a lot -- the talking over people.

Chloe's "Would you rather…" is "…bad skin" or "...no teeth." That's good. I guess I'd have to say…I really don't know. I'm assuming it would have to be really bad skin to compare with not having teeth. I'd rather correct having no teeth; but if I just had to live with one, I'd say bad skin. I'm suddenly feeling kind of bad for the people with really bad skin who are watching the show. They're all, "Would you rather fuck off? Look at that, I decided for you. That's your only option."

As Nick is about to say that he would choose bad skin, Santino shouts, "No teeth!" Nick is all, "Was I talking?" Daniel informs Nick facetiously that Santino had merely paused and it was in fact Nick who was interrupting Santino. It's getting scarily high school in there, which is where Santino has gone wrong. He's one of those guys who was an outcast in high school but has probably gotten a pretty warm reception beyond that, due to his being creative and funny and all. I bet he assumes that the popular people from his high school are fat and living boring lives and "Look at me! I'm a star now!" He has underestimated the power of a clique, though. Those fat popular people would still make you uncomfortable if you were all in a room together. I'm afraid that, with his alienating behavior, he has created a clique -- a group that could be named "Everyone but Santino. Even the judges." No matter how much you think you are Shakespeare, being around a group of people who are joined in dislike for you is really not fun.

Santino further nails his coffin shut by mocking Nick in that way your big brother did when he'd try to say the same thing that you were saying at the same time. That really annoyed me. Nick finally stops trying and goes back to cutting. "Oh, something happened in your childhood, honey. I love you now, but something happened." That statement is the Southern equivalent of saying, "Bless her heart." When you're saying that, you don't mean "Bless her heart." You mean "Asshole."

Santino interviews that growing up in Missouri was hard for him because people thought he was weird. He tells us that he won't ever give up. Oh, Santino. I understand where he's coming from, but…being treated like an ugly duckling in high school doesn't always mean that you're going to become a swan. There are, you know, just some really ugly ducklings that are…still ducklings. And ugly. It seems like Santino feels entitled to success because he was an outcast in his formative years.

With three hours left in the day, Tim comes in. Chloe and Kara get a once-over without incident. Tim tells Santino that he really likes the colors that he has chosen. Santino says that he is worried about having enough time.

Scrambling and sewing to techno music begins. Gotta say, I don't know what it is, but sometimes I really love the worker-bee montages. As Kara is fitting a mock-up of the slacks she is making on Santino, he asks, "Are these space pants? Because my ass is out of this world." Touché.

Santino is worried that Kara is not going to have enough time. He asks her if she has cut the fabric for the pants, and she replies in the negative. Even though she explains that she's tired, he tells her she should cut the pants because he doesn't want to walk naked down the runway the day. I don't really want that either, as it would likely send Heidi into premature labor. Hell, it would send Michael Kors into premature labor. But the pants being completed and naked Santino are not the two options. Why does he care? Let her fuck up, it's better for you. I have a feeling, though, that Santino is a little more concerned about looking pretty in his fancy new clothes than he's willing to admit. Kara is annoyed. "This is a challenge," she says.

As Chloe is fitting Nick for his slacks, Santino says, "You can't polish a turd." Am I immature for laughing at that? So be it. Whatever, Chloe kind of laughs too. In fact, you can tell she wants to laugh. She says, "That's so rude." But she's laughing beneath it. I'm just saying that I'm not the only one. Nick is not happy, though. I think it hurt his feelings. He says in his interview that Santino is always trying to belittle others. What, you don't have any material with which to get back at him? He's a insult waiting to happen! Fulfill his potential. Daniel chimes in, saying that Santino is talented, but arrogant and childish.

Back at the apartments, there is a discussion about tension. Daniel says that nothing good can from unnecessary tension. Santino veers uncomfortably close to caricature with a "I'm here to win" spiel that's so cliché.

The day, at the workroom, Tim introduces Collier Strong, who is the consulting make-up artist to L'Oreal Paris. Everyone is excited to see him. He's going to help the designers create a hair and make-up plan for their makeovers. This could be exciting.

He decides that they are going to shave Santino, in order to uncover his "incredible jaw line," "beautiful skin," and "magnificent eyes." Wow, okay. Collier likens Santino's bushy beard to Brad Pitt covering up his prettiness with a beard. Paging Dr. Lasik! Santino interviews sarcastically that Collier recognizes his beauty. Kara's eyebrows are going to be shaped more. That sounds small, but I bet it could make a huge difference.

Nick, holding tightly onto his Eurotrash dreams, recommends that they put some sort of bronzer on Daniel. Collier disagrees, saying that it's more dramatic to keep Daniel pale. "Exactly!" responds Nick.

They want to keep Chloe "fun." Big eyelashes. He wants to clean up Nick's beard.

Pretty time is over and they get back to work. Santino jumps right back into scat talk, speaking to no one in particular: "We started with five turdy designers and we polished them." Nick doesn't respond. Santino calls after him, to no avail. He interviews that he has been getting the silent treatment from Nick and he attributes it to his "polish a turd" comment from earlier. He says it was only a joke.

In the sewing room, Nick complains about Santino's arrogance, and Kara quite rightly advises him to take Santino with "a huge pinch of salt." I think it's too late for that, though. When Nick re-enters the workroom, Santino calls, "Truce." Nothing from Nick. "Nick, don't keep it going." Yeah, it's about Nick. Then Santino interviews that he had been willing to help Nick, but now he won't tell him that "the suit [he's] making for Daniel Vosovic -- it makes him look like a girl and it's sewn bad." Wow, that would have been really big of you to tell him that, but Nick really brought it on himself. Commercials.

With four hours remaining in the workday, Tim comes in. Kara is worried that her makeover is not extensive enough. Tim adamantly tells her that she should not make Santino something that he's not. Tim then tells Santino to edit himself. He reminds Santino that he was called a "one-note" by Nina Garcia, which Tim "couldn't disagree with." Nick says that he feels like a flight attendant, which Chloe super-good-naturedly laughs at. Daniel seems a little flummoxed about what to do.

Tim thinks that Nick's suit is too feminine. Also, there are no pockets on the pants. They are playing western showdown music right now. That can't be good. Nick interviews that he wishes he had put pockets on the pants, but since he didn't -- he's going to have Daniel "butch it up." Oh Lord, this could get ugly.

Daniel says to Chloe that he's getting nervous about whether he'll have enough time to finish, and then he'll remember that he's immune.

We see Kara fitting Santino, and he suggests that she add some plaid fabric to the lining of the shirt she is making. Santino interviews that he is having to spend too much time "helping" Kara. This is the same shit he said before. Funny, I never see people asking for Santino's "help." Nick says that Santino is more concerned with Kara's look for him than he is with his own design. Per Daniel, the jumpsuit that Santino is making is "ridiculous" and needs a lot of work.

The morning, Nick and Daniel are joking around while Santino is sulking on his bed. Santino interviews that the other two guys have made him the enemy, which he thinks is just their competitive spirits taking over. Hmm, nothing to do with your behavior? Nope, it's also "straight-up jealousy." None of it is his fault, though. He says he is not going home today.

On the rooftop, Chloe tells Kara that she thinks that they are both safe. "Baby, we are down to five. 'Safe' isn't even a word anymore." Instead, it's a groundbreaking film from the nineties starring Julianne Moore. Nosebleeds, modern furniture -- it's a classic.

At Parsons, Tim tells them that they will have two hours to get ready for the show. Imagine the model who is eliminated because a designer is eliminated in this challenge. She's gonna be like, "This is what happens when you don't leave the modeling to the professionals." We see the designers get made up. Collier Strong reassures Nick that he's pretty.

The cashmere that Nick used is showing all of the imperfections in his sewing, so he keeps trying to steam and iron it. When Kara sees Santino shaved down to a mustache and some chin stuff, she screams. He does look nice and clean. "You're so handsome!" she screams.

Chloe says that she thinks the garment that Daniel made for her looks really bad. Kara says that she's really uncomfortable because Santino has glued her into the jumpsuit. The sleeve is coming off of her. Nick says, "The outfit was unfinished, yet again." As Santino is sort of lording over Kara, Daniel says that he was "bullying" her about how she couldn't move. Even Santino kind of admits it. He says he needs Kara to say, "This is what I wanted. I feel amazing in it." This would seem a perfect opportunity for Kara to give Santino a gentle heave-ho, huh? Commercials.

Heidi greets the…the judges. The designers are backstage. Heidi reminds Michael, Nina, and guest judge Freddie Leiba (celebrity fashion stylist) that the designers gave each other makeovers. The show begins.

First up is Santino. It looks pretty cool. Great madras slacks with a bright orange and white plaid. I thought the slacks were a bad idea when they were talking about them, but they look great. Over that, Kara has given Santino a light green polo, with a plaid liner that you see at the collar. It's unique and really well made. Underneath the polo, Santino is wearing a long white t-shirt. He has switched his trademark Bear Bryant hat with a new lighter-colored hat. Now, let's talk about Santino's modeling. He does this thing with his arm that looks like he just performed that isometric exercise where you press your arms against a wall and then they just kind of lift by themselves. It's this mannered, float-y kind of stance. He looks like the demon barber of Fleet Street to me right now. Kara likes what she did.

Ay yi yi. Here comes Kara. The jumpsuit is deep purple and ends right below the knee. The sleeves end just above the elbow. The neck is cut really low, below the bust. Kara's hair has been curled and looks really pretty. I guess the jumpsuit is kind of cool, but it is absolutely WRONG for Kara. She would never wear that. He has taken a girl with a lovely figure and dressed her in a metaphorical magnifying glass. You thought your behind needed a little work, Kara? Well, now it looks like you're falling apart. And I'm not criticizing her body. I just think this outfit is, well, a turd. Santino hopes no one notices that the thing is falling apart.

Here comes Daniel. There is a black shirt under the gray suit. Okay, so the feminine question. Yes, it looks feminine. But, it still looks right for Daniel to be wearing it. I think he looks like a little Brit rocker right now. And to go a little further with that line of thinking -- at an old job of mine, I met Scott Weiland and he said he always buys women's pants. So, a skinny rocker in girl pants is not a bad thing. There's not a button on the jacket, which is weird. I can't think of a reason for that. Nick thinks it looks fabulous, though. He feels that he was ambitious, and he likes the results.

Chloe is . It's a short red dress with a tan corset on top of it. Hmm. The hem of the dress is unfinished. I think the corset might be too long as well. It makes Chloe, who is already a small lady, look really short. Her hair is a little too big, too. This doesn't look great. Daniel thinks that it makes look Chloe look sophisticated and modern.

Here comes Nick. It's a pin-striped vest with matching slacks and a pink shirt. The back of the vest has a pink panel. It's fairly simple, but cute. I'm glad that the vest isn't too tight. I think it actually flatters Nick's shape a little more than some of the baby tees he's been sporting. Chloe, of course, thinks that it looks expensive. ["Nick had the fiercest runway walk, too. He probably should have been allowed to stay just for that." -- Sars]

Nina is wearing a yellow blouse that I think is gorgeous. And the designers return to the stage.

Freddie Leiba tells Kara that Santino looks very different from before, but great. Nina thinks it is a "softer Santino." Heidi thinks that the colors are fresh, but "you." Nina chuckles and says she loves the madras pants. "It's Santino on holiday," adds Freddie with an accent that I place as coming from the Republic of Fashion.

Michael thinks that Daniel slacked because he was immune. He is falling asleep, he hates Daniel's design so much. Heidi thinks that Chloe is naturally cute and hip, but Daniel has made her look old. Michael perks up enough to say that it looks "eighties bitchy. Kind of like Knots Landing." Daniel replies, "I guess you can't be right all the time." He seems a little bit uncomfortable about how to respond, but he's acknowledging the criticism.

Freddie loves what Chloe made for Nick. Michael thinks she pulled it off, though he's not sure that he would wear a vest with a pink back. Honestly, my mind is spinning with the numerous responses I have to that. Just make your own joke there. You know you've got one. Nick says that he feels good in the outfit.

Freddie doesn't like the "make" of Nick's suit for Daniel. All of the errors in the sewing are visible. Michael acknowledges that a men's suit is a very ambitious undertaking for one of these challenges. The fabric that Nick has chosen is "very women's wear," meaning it's soft. That's why it's showing all the imperfections. Heidi asks how the jacket closes, and seems disgusted that it doesn't. At that point, Michael sighs and says that he doesn't understand why there are no buttons or pockets. This is not looking good for our Uncle Nick. Damn, Michael Kors says it looks like a Golden Girls jacket that you would belt and wear with leggings. That sounds so gross.

We move onto Santino's design. Nina likes that it shows Kara's figure, but (again with a laugh) she doesn't know who is wearing jumpsuits these days. Heidi points out that Kara doesn't look entirely comfortable in it. I actually hadn't noticed how much she's slouching. She looks terrified to move. Santino says that Kara was jumping around and having a great time before, so he's not sure why she seems so lacking in exuberance right now. Maybe she's tired, he muses. "Muses," or "lies." She's standing still because he told her not to move. Nina calls out that shit and says that it is ultimately about the clothes. Then, she asks Kara how she feels in the jumpsuit. Before she can answer, "Like two pigs fighting under a blanket" (big fat number three reference to Steel Magnolias this season. I hate myself), Santino says, "I think she looks great."

Nina notices that one of the sleeves is coming off. Santino says that they "got excited" after the runway show and the sleeve popped off. Uh, lie. Freddie likes the jumpsuit. I will say that the jumpsuit makes Kara's gams look swell. The designers leave the runway.

Heidi says, "I really hate what he did to Chloe," about Daniel's design. She's taking this really personally. Michael thinks that he was "coasting."

Freddie loves Chloe's design. "She's great, in my book." Michael feels that Nick would actually wear the design.

Nina says that Kara's design was her other favorite. She mentions again that she softened Santino. Heidi gives her credit for making all of the outfit, including the hat. Menswear is really hard to make, Michael reminds us.

Heidi thinks that Nick's design was "horrible." Wrong fabric, wrong garment, and bad execution. That's Michael's verdict. He can't believe there are no pockets. "It's like a legging that Friar Tuck would wear," he says, getting a big chuckle from Freddie.

Freddie likes Santino's jumpsuit. Heidi reminds the judges that it was "falling apart." Nina is stuck on the idea that Santino doesn't think about what is comfortable for a woman to wear.

Backstage, Kara is crying and whispering to Nick that she is sorry that she didn't "say anything." He just pats her leg and "shhh"s her. Meanwhile, Chloe, Daniel, and Nick are looking at how the jumpsuit is falling apart. Daniel wonders what could have taken so long to make on the jumpsuit that the outfit was still unfinished. Chloe points out that she completed three pieces. Santino, meanwhile, is somewhere else, kind of covering his face.

The designers return to the runway. Heidi tells Daniel that he is lucky that he is immune, because he "would have gotten [her] 'auf wiedersehen.'" Sometimes, she makes "auf wiedersehen" sound like murder. Daniel says, "Lucky me." I mean, what do you say? I guess that's as good as anything, though it felt a little awkward. He's "in." She acknowledges Chloe and Kara as the frontrunners for winning the challenge. It's Chloe. And she's "in." Chloe interviews that "a little part" of her wasn't surprised that she won, because she feels that she took the challenge "to another level." Kara is "in."

Wow, here we are. It's Nick and Santino. Heidi says that Santino's jumpsuit was unfinished. Nick is told that his ambition got the best of him. Santino is "in." Man. Nick thanks everyone and walks offstage. We see him say in an interview that "the fat lady hasn't sung yet." Kara is crying when she hugs him. Nick hugs everyone but Santino. He says, choking back tears, that he thinks his parents will be very proud of him and say, "That's a good boy." Well, I'm also saying that the suit wasn't that bad! A fucking Stone Temple Pilot would wear it! I am sad to Nick go.
