Enchanted Forest: Snow White has been surly since she drank Rumpy's potion. She's forgotten Charming and her love for him, but she's also lost her sense of self. She's even mean to woodland creatures and the dwarfs. They arrange an intervention, moderated by Jiminy Cricket. He acknowledges Snow has legitimate reasons for being angry at Regina (who orchestrated King Leopold's murder) but tells her she shouldn't be taking it out on her friends. Snow sees the light; she just sees it a little twisted. She decides she must kill Regina, and sets off to do just that.

Grumpy finds Snow and takes her to see Rumpy, who says there's no antidote to the potion -- only true love could undo it. True love is the most powerful magic at all, and the only magic he hasn't been able to bottle. Rumpy's all in favor of killing Queenie though, so he gives Snow a special bow and arrow that will kill Regina and a map that will show where to find her. When he doesn't want anything from her in exchange, Snow is surprised, but Rumpy says he's invested in her future.

Meanwhile, Red and Charming are searching for Snow, too. Red wolfs out to face King George's men -- giving Charming time to get away. Charming goes to Rumpy to find out what he did to Snow. Rumpy tells Charming only true love can fix her. He tells Charming where Snow is. The price? Charming's cloak.

The first time Charming catches up with Snow and kisses her, it doesn't exactly work out too well. She knocks him out, ties him up and, before long, she leaves him. Jiminy has to bite through the ropes to free him. Jiminy suggests that Charming help Snow remember who she is before he tries to remind her who he is.

Eventually, Charming stops Snow from killing Regina by letting the arrow strike him. Snow runs to his side. When she realizes he was willing to die to keep her from filling her heart with darkness, Snow is so touched she kisses him and instantly remembers herself and their love. King George's men catch up with Charming. They capture him and cart him away. Snow calls out that she will always find him. Back home, the dwarfs agree to help her in her quest to rescue Charming.

Storybrooke: The evidence against Mary Margaret is piling up. The jewelry box in which Ruby found the heart belongs to Mary. Emma also finds a hunting knife hidden in Mary Margaret's heating register. Gold offers his services as her attorney. When Mary says she can't pay him, Gold tells her he is invested in her future!

After getting a pep talk from August, Henry looks to his book for a way in which to help Mary. Emma knows Mary is being framed, but plays everything by the book in front of Regina, so that Regina will not suspect that Emma suspects her. The book tells Henry that Regina's keys will open any door, so he brings them to a skeptical Emma. He tries a couple of keys on Mary Margaret's door, but they don't work. He persuades Emma to try one more. She's stunned when it works. Henry asks, "Do you believe, now?"

David goes to Dr. Archie Hopper for help in remembering what happened during his blackouts. Under hypnosis, David remembers Snow telling Charming that she's going to kill "her" -- meaning Regina. Archie wakes David, who refuses to say what had him so disturbed while he was under hypnosis.

David visits Mary at the jail and tells her he remembers her telling him she wanted to kill Kathryn. Mary is broken hearted. She never once doubted him, regardless of all the evidence. She tells him to leave. Later, when she's making up her cot, she finds a key that opens her cell. She closes herself back in the cell when she hears someone coming. Emma reports the heart DNA is a match for Kathryn. She also swears she believes in Mary's innocence, but says she has to keep up appearances and move ahead with the case. She asks Mary to have faith in her. Mary agrees.

Emma goes to Gold for help. She tells him Regina set up Mary, but she has no court-worthy evidence. She wants his help, because she has always lost when going up against Regina, except for when he helped her. She doesn't approve of his methods, but she approves of his results, and Mary is much more important than a job. When Gold asks if she's willing to go as far as it takes, Emma says she'll go even further. He says while Regina is powerful, something tells him Emma is more powerful than she knows.

Over in the Enchanted Forest, Rumpy takes one of Charming's hairs from his cloak. He puts it in a bottle with the hair he got from Snow when he gave her the potion. They bond together -- forming what looks like DNA. Rumpy has bottled true love. He can now do anything.

Back in Storybrooke, we close on a shot of Mary's jail cell. It's empty, and the door is wide open.

I'll be back with the whole story, in the full recap. In the meantime, please grade the episode at the top of the page and then come on over to the forum, where you will always find us.

Want more? The full recap starts right below!

Let's take a look at the opening montage and scenes from episodes. I haven't done that in a while. "Once Upon A Time," the announcer says, "an evil queen..." We see Queenie cast the Dark Curse.

Announcer: "...banished every story book character you've ever known..." Hansel and Gretel wander through the woods. Red appears, in her riding hood. Snow and Charming marry.

Announcer: "...to our world." Mary and David take a walk. Regina, in Storybrooke, stands in front of the mirror as she contemplates Henry's Once Upon A Time book.

Announcer: "Who knows the truth?" Gold crosses the road.

Announcer: "And who can break the spell?" Emma stares down someone. August opens up his typewriter case.

Previously, on Once Upon A Time, Emma and Henry sit on the old castle play structure. Henry says, "You don't play with a curse." Queenie flings a fireball. Snow attempts to save Charming from King George's wrath, by telling him, "There is no place for us together." Snow goes to Rumpelstiltskin for help in getting over David. She looks at the potion. "If I drink that, I'll no longer love him?" Rumpy says, "You won't even remember who he is." In Storybrooke, Kathryn tells Regina that she told David he and Mary should be together. Mary and David kiss. In the Enchanted Forest, Charming flees from King George's men. In Storybrooke, over a shot of Kathryn's crashed car, Regina says, "It's been 24 hours since Kathryn went missing." Ruby digs up the jewelry box. Emma says, "There's a human heart inside it." Emma goes to see David and Mary at the animal shelter and says, "We found fingerprints. They were Mary Margaret's." Jiminy Cricket is featured in this week's title card. And phew. I don't think I'm going to recap the opening montage and "Previouslies" every week. That was way more work than it's worth.

"Heart of Darkness" begins in the Enchanted Forest, at twilight. A full moon is on the rise. Charming and Red (who is wearing her Magical Cloak of Midol) are taking a breather from their search for Snow/flight from King George's men. As they sit around their campfire, a flaming arrow heads straight for Red. Charming sees it in the nick of time, and bats it away with his sword. When they see the horses approaching, Charming mounts his steed and tells Red to hop on. She tells him to find Snow; she'll delay the knights and give him a head start. She looks up at the full moon, to make clear her meaning. Charming follows suit, catches her drift, and takes off. Red removes the Magical Cloak of Midol, morphs into a wolf and charges at the knights. We cut to Charming, who hears the wolf howl, just as he's riding past a wanted poster featuring his own true love.

In Storybrooke, Emma books Mary Margaret, who is pleading her innocence. Emma already knows Mary is innocent, but she has to book Mary, or Regina will fire her and bring in someone who will railroad Mary Margaret. Emma asks Mary to bear with her as she questions her.

Enchanted Forest. Snow, wears a twee red bow in her hair. As she sweeps the dwarfs' cottage, she sweetly hums "With A Smile And A Song." An impossibly blue bird chirps along with her. Snow holds out her hand, encouraging him to perch. When he does, she places him on the table. Her tune turns flat. She raises the broom and tries to whack the bird to death, but he manages to flutter away. I hope you watched the episode, if for no reason other than this scene, because it is hilarious. When Grumpy catches her and asks what she's doing, she says she's getting rid of the vermin in their house. She doesn't manage to kill the bird, but it does fly out a window, thank goodness. Grumpy encourages her to come to dinner. She finally relents.

The dwarfs are already assembled around their table, when Snow and Grumpy enter the room. Jiminy Cricket arrives and Snow tries to smash him, too. Jiminy explains that Snow's friends are concerned and have asked him there to help. They're having an honest-to-goodness intervention. Grumpy tells her she's changed; she's angry, irritable, and downright mean. Sneezy goes , complaining that she brought bales of hay into the house last night, despite his allergies. She carps that's allergic to everything. Another dwarf complains that she broke his mug. Snow says he's lucky she didn't break his face.

Dwarf: You are the worst, most nasty, horrible...

Grumpy: Enough! Look what you're doing to Happy.

Recapper: Ahahahaha. Dear Show, these first four minutes just made my day. Humor works so well in the Enchanted Forest. Thank you.

Anyhow, Grumpy blames the potion for the change. Snow says the potion was the solution, rather than the problem. She rants about how she's in a cottage with dwarfs, instead of living in her castle as a princess. She rants about Regina having Leopold killed. Jiminy interrupts to point out that while her anger at Regina is justified, she's taking it out on everyone who loves her. Snow decides he's right and that she'll take it out on Queenie instead. When Jiminy starts to caution her that revenge will change Snow into something darker than she can imagine, Snow covers him up with a glass dome. She grabs a pickaxe off the wall and heads out to kill the Queen. Commercial.

In Storybrooke, Emma leads Mary Margaret into the room for questioning. Regina is there, supposedly to be an impartial witness. Emma acts as if this is perfectly fine with her, and tells Mary it can only be to her own benefit. During the interrogation, Mary admits that during the course of their affair, Mary and David would meet at the old t(r)oll bridge. , Emma takes out the jewelry box that contained the heart. Mary identifies the box as her own, and says it must have been stolen; she insists she's innocent. Regina takes Mary's hand and gets all transfer-y as she blathers in hushed tones that she knows what it's like to lose a loved one and be publicly humiliated.

Regina: It took me to a very dark place -- changed me. I can only imagine what losing David Nolan did to you.

Mary: I haven't changed. I'm still the same person I've always been. A good person. I did not do this.

Audience: Okay, we buy you didn't murder Kathryn, but good? Are you having blackouts that wiped out your ADULTEROUS AFFAIR?

Alone, in the hallway with Regina, Emma reminds her that Regina is supposed to be an observer. Emma will ask the questions. Regina asks how Emma knows Mary is innocent, and points out that since Emma is the sheriff and lives with Mary, that she probably would have seen signs of a break-in, if someone did, in fact, steal the box.

Regina: She is a woman who's had her heart broken and that -- that can make you do unspeakable things.

Recapper: Hey, over-indulging with wine, or ice cream might be pathetic, but surely not unspeakable!

Enchanted Forest, Night. Snow ambushes one of Regina's knights. When he falls from his horse, she smashes his foot with the pickaxe. The knight screams in pain; Snow flatly tells him it will heal eventually. She wants to know where Queenie is. When the knight refuses to answer, Snow explains her axe is so strong it can cut a diamond.

Snow: Imagine what it can do to human flesh. Soft, pliable, tender flesh.

Knight: She's in her castle for the night. In the morning, she leaves for the summer palace.

When Snow lunges at the knight, he pleads with her and says that's all he knows. Snow is incensed, because that's her game these days (and Ginnifer Goodwin rocks these scenes), and because the summer palace was built for her mother. She knocks out the knight and steals his armor -- leaving him lying naked and unconscious in forest. Grumpy confronts her, but Snow tells him to get out of her way. She's determined to get in the castle. Grumpy gives her a tough-love speech about revenge. He wants to take her back to Rumpy, because the potion changed her. Snow doesn't want her memories back, but Grumpy talks about how Rumpy is the most powerful man in the world and can do anything. That last work piques Snow's interest.

Emma goes over Mary's Storybrooke apartment with a fine tooth comb. She finds no evidence of a break in. Henry arrives, and says they have to help Miss Blanchard. Emma says she is helping, but he should leave.

Henry: Not gonna happen. You know how few scenes I get. Fricking child labor laws.

Emma explains that she's trying to see if someone broke into the apartment. She says no one has a motive, though. Henry reminds her that his mother does, since she hates Snow White. Blinded by the stupidity one gains in adulthood, Emma gives him her dubious face and points out that Regina's hatred of Snow White won't hold up in court. As they're talking, the heat comes on. Something is rattling inside the floor register. Emma removes the cover and finds a hunting knife wrapped in cloth. She and Henry share a worried look. Commercial.

Henry is at Granny's, drowning his sorrows in hot chocolate when August joins him at the counter. He knows Henry is upset about his teacher, but tells him he won't find the answer to his problems in the bottom of that mug. These lines read as cloying, but they work on-screen. August suggests Henry should look for the answers in his book.

Henry: It's just a book.

August: Is it? I think we both know that's not the case.

Henry wants to know what August knows about his book. August says it's a book of stories that really happened.

Henry: You think my book is real?

August: As real as I am.

Recapper: Okay, so that's one more check in the August might be the narrator column. I'm thinking that when the curse transported the book to "our world," the narrator's voice gained a body. Anyhow, Henry wants to know how August knows about the book. August says he's a believer who wants to help others see the light. He's here for Emma. She's not one who can go on faith; she needs proof. August again points Henry toward his book. As he opens it to a picture of Charming on his horse, we cut to the...

Enchanted Forest, day. Charming comes upon the poor, naked knight. In another amusing scene, he tells the knight to put his hands where he can see him. When he realizes the guy is naked, Charming quickly rescinds that order and tosses the knight a blanket. The knight tells Charming what Snow White did to him and that she's a bloodthirsty killer after the Queen. Charming says she's not bloodthirsty. He knows her. The knight replies that maybe he doesn't.

Storybrooke. David visits Regina in her office. He knows she didn't kill Kathryn. Regina says she's knows what it's like to be betrayed. David insists Mary is a good person; he knows her. Regina, echoing the knight, says maybe he doesn't really know her. She goes on about everyone having a dark side. David agrees, but says this is so evil. Regina says evil isn't born; it's made, and then manages to keep a straight face when David says he hardly thinks Regina knows much about evil. Then again, Regina probably doesn't think of herself as evil -- just as right. David brings up his blackouts. He wants to clear up his missing time and prove Mary Margaret's innocence. Regina tells him he is sweet but wrong.

Regina: Evil doesn't always look evil. Sometimes, it's staring right at us, and we don't even realize it.

Recapper: Your ability to hide your mustache twirling is a constant inspiration to me, Regina.

Back at the sheriff's station, Emma tells Mary about the knife in her heating vent. She thinks Mary should hire a lawyer. Just then, Gold walks in. He offers to represent Mary. They didn't realize he was a lawyer. He reminds them of his interest in contracts. He managed to persuade the judge to drop the charges against him, when he beat Moe French nearly to death. Emma doesn't want him to exert his influence; she wants to find the truth. Gold counters that his influence may be exactly what's needed here. He's not going to stop her from doing her job; he's only there to help. Mary's heard enough. She says Gold is right. She needs his help. She pleads with Emma to do her best work and prove her innocent, but in the meantime, she'll take practical help from Gold. Gold says it's in Mary's best interest. Emma certainly hopes it is. Once Gold is alone with his client, Mary points out she can't pay him. He's not in it for the money. Mary wants to know why he's helping, then.

Gold: Let's just say I'm invested in your future.

[Note: Seems legit. -- Rachel.]

We cut to Rumpy's Enchanted Forest estate. He's at his wheel when Grumpy and Snow enter. Grumpy complains that the potion changed Snow. Grumpy's all duh it took away the love from her heart. There's no way to restore her to who she was. He surveys his shelves full of potions as he explains that no potion can bring back true love, and reiterates that love is the most powerful magic of all and the one he has been unable to bottle. He claims that if you can bottle love, you can do anything. He then turns his attention to Snow and asks what she really wants. She wants his help in killing the Queen. Rumpy gives her a bow and arrow and explains that she has to kill Queenie en route from her castle to the summer palace. He hands her a map and shows her where she should stand when she fires the arrow.

Rumpy: An arrow fired from this bow will get you exactly what you need. It always finds its target.

Grumpy tries to talk Snow out of this course of action, but she's in it to win it, so Grumpy says she'll have to go it alone. Snow says that was always her plan and asks Rumpy what she has to do, in return. Rumpy says she doesn't have to do anything. Snow knows his deals always come with a price. What's in it for him?

Rumpy: Let's just say I'm invested in your future.

[Note: Seems legit. -- Rachel.]

David goes to Dr. Archie Hopper's office and asks for his help in recovering memories from his blackouts. He thinks he might remember something that will help Mary Margaret. As Archie shuts his office door, we cut back to the...

Enchanted Forest, Rumpy's Estate. Charming charges in and demands Rumpy show himself. Rumpy appears behind him and tweaks him about dressing like a prince, even though he ran away from the life Rumpy gave him. David says that was a prison sentence. Rumpy warns him to be careful, because King George is a vengeful man.

Lost Fans: Well yeah, he's Charles Fricking Widmore!

Charming draws his sword and demands to know what Rumpy did to Snow. Rumpy says Charming is the one who did something to her -- he caused her pain. Rumpy says Snow never would have taken his potion, otherwise. Charming demands that Rumpy undo the potion, since all magic can be broken.

Rumpy: Oh yes, with twu wuv.

Charming: So that's it, then. True love's kiss will awaken her.

Rumpy: Most certainly, but it's going to be hard to kiss her when you don't know where she is.

Charming: Name your price.

Rumpy: How about your cloak?

Charming: Why would you want my cloak?

Rumpy: It's drafty in here.

Charming rips off his cloak, casts it on a table behind him and demands to know where Snow is. Rumpy explains she's on her way to the Queen's highway. He gives Charming a map of the route and warns that he'd better be quick.

Rumpy: If she kills the Queen, she becomes as evil as the woman whose life she takes.

Charming (leaving): She could never become that evil.

Rumpy: Evil isn't born, dearie. It's made. If Snow starts down that road, you'll never get her back.

Once Charming is gone, Rumpy all but rubs his hands in delight as he considers Charming's cloak. Finally, he picks it up, brings it to his face and breathes deep. Someone's got a crush. Don't worry, Rumpy. Someday, your Prince will come. He swirls it around and we cut to...

Snow is in the woods, donning a cape (the knight's I guess) and readying her bow and arrow when someone sneaks up from behind and grabs her. When she demands her freedom, the assailant puts a gloved hand over her mouth. Don't worry. It's just Charming. He turns her to face him. She has no memory of him, of course, so she demands to know who he is and what he's doing. Charming says he's helping her remember and then forces a kiss on her. Snow's lips remain puckered in distaste. She struggles free of the kiss. When David says, "I told you I would always find you," she knocks him over the head. His vision blurs as we cut away to...

Storybrooke, Mary Margaret's building. Emma is just returning home, when Henry arrives with Regina's keys -- the very same keys Regina used when she broke into David's home and stole Kathryn's letter. Of course Henry doesn't know all that, but he still tells Emma the keys are proof that explains how Regina gained access to Mary's apartment and framed her. He swiped the keys from Regina's office, because the book says those key will open any door. Emma's all there's no way, like adults are, but Henry insists they try. He tries a couple of keys, but they fail to open the door.

Emma: Come on, Henry. I know you want to believe the answer to everything is in Operation Cobra.

Henry: It is!

Emma: Sometimes, the real world needs to come first.

Henry begs Emma to try one more. He picks out a key and tells her to use it. Emma's eyes grow wide when they fit in the lock. She looks in wonder as the door swings open.

Henry: Do you believe now?

Enchanted Forest, Night. Snow has Charming tied to a tree. She assumes he's the man Rumpy helped her forget and mocks him, when he tells her his name is Charming. Charming can't figure out why true love's kiss didn't restore her memory. Snow says it's not true love because she doesn't love him. Charming insists she does; she just doesn't remember. Snow isn't interested in words. She's a woman of action. Taking action is exactly what she's going to do. Charming tells her she can't kill Queenie. It's not who she wants to be. Snow tells him to watch her.

Sawyer: Baby, he is tied to a tree in the jungle of mystery.

Storybrooke, Archie's office. Archie hypnotizes David and asks him to remember the last time he spoke to Kathryn. David says that on the night Kathryn disappeared, he called her on his cell phone. She said she needed to start a new life without him. She thought he and Mary Margaret should be together. While Kathryn said she was hurt, she also said she wanted David to be happy. Archie asks if anything happened after that. David says he saw Mary Margaret in the woods. Archie asks what she was doing there.

Hypno-Flashback -- not to Storybrooke, but to the Enchanted Forest. David hears his own voice, but of course it's Charming, saying, "You can't kill her." He sees Snow (long hair, costume and all), who says, "Really? Watch me." Charming says, "Don't do it."

Archie shakes David awake and tells him he was going too deep into hypnosis. Archie tells David something was disturbing him and asks what he saw. David stammers but doesn't answer. Instead, he flees from Archie's office, even though Archie insists he can help him.

Sidebar: David's already on The List because of his adultery and his inability to man up and be honest, so there's a lot of anger in the fandom that David didn't take notice of Mary Margaret's long hair or costume, in his hypnosis recalled memory. I think, had he been willing to talk to Archie, Archie might have known enough to ask questions that would have helped David figure out this memory couldn't be of a conversation with Mary about killing Kathryn. I also think, though, that it's understandable David doesn't think these details are all that important. I know when I dream, there are often differences in people and places. What's more, we know about the two worlds; David does not. He would have no reason to think that a conversation between his voice and Mary's face was actually between their true identities, because he thinks this is his true identity. In short, I think it's fine that he panicked and fled. Poor noodle is trying.

Enchanted Forest, Night. Jiminy Cricket finds Charming, who he thinks is James. (I get email about this every week, so again I'll remind some of you that Charming is not James. James is his dead twin brother -- the boy who was raised by King George. Did that sound cranky? Good, because at this point, it's making me cranky to have to explain it over and over again. It's not that hard, people. Really. To those of you who have been paying attention, please excuse my crank, or enjoy it. Whatever works for you.) Anyhow, once Charming gets over the fact that a cricket is talking to him, Jiminy explains his involvement in the intervention and says he wasn't much help. Charming says he fared no better and asks if Jiminy can free him. Before Jiminy sets to nibbling him free of his bonds, he asks Charming what his plan is. Charming isn't sure. Nothing is making Snow remember who he is. Jiminy suggests Charming is approaching this the wrong way.

Jiminy: How can she remember who you are, when she's lost sight of who she is?

Queen's highway, snowy day. Regina and her guard ride ahead of her carriage. The peasants bow as she sneers at them. She is resplendent in a black hat and red velvet riding costume. Snow White lurks in the woods above the road. She finds her hiding spot and takes aim. When Regina rides into sight, Snow releases the arrow. David jumps in front of it. It hits him in the shoulder. He falls to the ground with a yell. Snow runs over to him, yelling -- asking why he'd do this. He reminds her she appreciates action more than words.

Charming: Now, you're going to get both. I love you, Snow.

Snow: But I don't love you. I don't even remember you.

Charming (moaning in pain): Well, I don't care. The only thing I care about is that you don't forget who you really are. I would rather die than let you fill your heart with darkness.

Snow (voice softening): You would really die for me?

Charming points out his wound and asks if it looks like he's faking. Snow is touched and says no one has ever done anything like this for her, before. Charming says at least no one she can remember. With a tear rolling down her cheek, Snow moves in on Charming, who is also in tears. I might be able to watch these two cry at each other for an hour. They cry so prettily. Snow gets closer and closer to Charming. Finally, she kisses him. Her eyes pop open. She pulls back and says his name. He says it's him and they kiss again.

Just then, George's army finds them. They drag James off and stick him in a bar-enclosed wagon. Despite the fact that the man in charge says to leave the girl, when Snow yells out, "James," one of the knights smacks her. She falls to the ground. James yells out, "NO!" when the knight draws his sword against Snow. The head knight calls him off. As the wagon whisks him away, James whispers, "Snow." She rises to her feet and calls out, "James, I will find you. I will always find you."

Storybrooke, jail. Mary's lying on her cot when David enters the station. He tells her he's recovered pieces of memory. He remembers saying, "Don't do it. Don't kill her." Mary realizes he thinks he remembers her wanting to kill Kathryn. He asks her if she can explain why he has that memory. Mary cannot believe he thinks she had something to do with Kathryn's murder. David cites all the physical evidence and his memories. She tearfully reminds him of the evidence they had against him, and how she stood by him, how she never once doubted him. She is wounded that he thinks her capable of such evil. Although her voice remains just above a whisper, it turns hard as she says, "Get. Out." Mary turns her back on David. He bows his head, then nods uncertainly and finally leaves. Commercial.

Enchanted Forest, Dwarf's Cottage. Snow returns to find the Dwarfs eating in silence. She presents Happy with a new mug (a stein, really). When she says it's an apology, Grumpy grumps that they don't care about mugs. Snow says it's the only thing she broke that she can replace. Grumpy looks at her and she apologizes to all of them. Grumpy rises to his feet. "It's you!" Group hug! I love Snow's relationship with Grumpy and I love the dwarfs together. They tell her she can have back her old room, but she can't stay. She has to free Charming from King George. Grumpy says she can't do it alone. "But luckily, you won't have to. Let's show that king what Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs can really do." And yeah, he pronounces it "dwarves," but both spellings are correct, and Disney uses the "dwarfs" spelling, so I am too. Neener. Snow smiles as her faithful friends -- pickaxes at the ready -- all nod in agreement with their crankiest brother.

Storybrooke Jail. Mary is making up her cot when a key falls to the floor. It's ornate, like the ones from Regina's collection. She picks it up and rises to her feet. She's alone in the station, so she tries the key on the cell door. It opens. Mary hears someone approaching, so she quickly closes it and hides the key. Emma's there with breakfast. She tells Mary that the test results came back on the heart. It matches Kathryn's DNA, so she's dead. Emma is breathless as she apologizes. With proof of the death, she must move forward with the case against Mary, but assures her she believes her. All the evidence just convinces Emma that Mary is being framed -- framed by Regina. Mary wants Emma to confront Regina, but Emma points out belief isn't proof. She has to do everything right, or things will get worse for Mary.

Emma: Every time I've gone up against Regina, she's seen it coming and I've lost.

Mary: What makes this time any different?

Emma (smiling): Because she doesn't know I suspect anything.

Mary wonders why Regina would do this to her. Emma says she doesn't know, but she's going to find out. She promises she won't stop until she exposes her. Mary wonders how that's possible, since Storybrooke is Regina's town. Emma says she's working on it and reminds Mary she has faith in her.

Emma: I need you to have faith in me. Can you do that?

Mary: Of course.

When Emma leaves, Mary looks at the key in her hand. Meanwhile, Emma goes to see Mr. Gold. He's playing with the Genie's lantern when she arrives. She tells him Regina set up Mary, but she has no court-worthy evidence of the frame job. She wants his help because she has always lost when going up against Regina, except for when he helped her. She doesn't approve of his methods, but she approves of his results and Mary is much more important than a job.

They bond together -- forming what looks like DNA (nice touch, Show). Rumpy has bottled true love. He can now do anything.

Back in Storybrooke, we close on a shot of Mary's jail cell. It's empty, and the door is wide open.

So, do you think Mary busted out on her own, or do you think someone else grabbed or convinced her to leave? How did that key get in there? Did Regina plant it, hoping Mary would do something stupid? The last person we saw with the keys were Henry, but it seems unlikely he planted it. Well, actually, no, Emma held them last. Hmmm. Gold could have some keys Regina knows nothing about. It's a mystery, I tell you what!

I will see you after Sunday's Mad-Hatter episode, "Hat Trick." In the meantime, please grade the episode at the top of the page and then come on over to the forum, where you will always find us.
