Opening statements. Paul and Nicole still hate each other and are not amusing and not interesting and can't we get them off this show already? The contestants are still in Santiago, rehashing the events of the evening. Paul is chattin' with Craig and Ali, and he claims that he was scared of Nicole's threats, while confessing to us that he's just trying to get people to doubt Nicole's sanity. For Ali, it's working. Meanwhile, Bobby, Clay, and Mark have a coalition that consists of the three of them standing around and talking about how they're in a coalition. That seems useful. Clay is weirdly trying to get out of the conversation, like hovering in the door and sort of halfway out.
Ali runs and tells Nicole what Paul said. Nicole says that she knew that was the only way to get under Paul's skin. Nicole confesses to us that she could care less about Paul, but she's trying to play the game however she can.
The contestants arrive at some sort of fruit market, where Jon is taking a big bite of an apple before announcing the mission: "Fruit of the Luge." He gets them to split up into two groups: five that can't trust anyone, and five that trust blindly. Everyone wants to be in the "can't trust" group, but finally they work it out. Jon throws a wrench in their groups when he says that they have to pair up with one person from each group. They'll be riding a two-person luge down a mountain. The person in front will be blindfolded and controlling the speed and steering. The person in back will be directing, and also trying to spot signs with pictures of fruit on them as they speed down the track. Once they hit the finish line, the two players cannot converse, and the previously-blindfolded player must run up the mountain back to the fruit stand, and pick out the fruits from the signs, placing them in the correct order. Each fruit in the right spot earns $2000 for the pot.
The first pair is Clay (blindfolded) and Bobby. All Bobby does is yell out "Slow slow slow" and then the fruits, except he tells Clay that the avocado is actually a pear. As they cross the finish line, Clay is still asking questions, but no one seems to care, yet. Clay manages to figure out that the pear is actually an avocado, largely because there aren't any pears on the table. Clay swaps two fruits but manages to earn $10,000.
The pair is Paul (blindfolded) and Ali. Paul also swaps two fruits so he earns $10,000. Victoria (blindfolded) and Craig are . I would be kind of scared to go with Craig because, you know, gravity. It seems like you would go pretty fast. Victoria says that she was "engulfed" by Craig, so she felt safe. They are actually quite cute together, and they chant the fruit order as they go down, adding each new sign as they pass it. After the finish line, but before they stand up, they go through the order one more time, but it seems like a mutual decision, unlike Clay who was the only one talking. So maybe they are amending the rules to say that you can't talk once you get off the luge? Paul notices and whispers to Ali that you aren't supposed to talk past the finish line. Victoria is the first to get all seven right for $14,000. Craig is thrilled, because he feels like he finally contributed. Aw. Kristen (blindfolded) and Mark go , and Kristen also gets all seven correct for $14,000.
The final two are Alex (blindfolded) and Nicole. Everyone is amused that Nicole is the non-blindfolded one. As they pass the first sign, Nicole says, "Green apple" and Alex doesn't respond. So Nicole says, "So, green apple," just kind of reviewing, and Alex says, "Green apple again?" and Nicole doesn't respond. Due to poor communication, when they finish, Alex puts a green apple in the first two slots, and thus everything else is off one and he only gets one correct. One thing that seemed fishy to me about this on Alex's part is that he must have realized at some point that he had more fruits than slots on the table, since he didn't get to put the last one, avocado, on there. I don't know if there was a rule that you couldn't remove fruits once they were placed or something, but you'd think that would have clued him in that something was up. I think Nicole's mistake was an honest one and due to lack of communication; would anyone be that surprised to learn that she has poor communication skills? Can you imagine her as your cooch doctor? Good Lord. Of all the specialties she could have chosen. So Alex earns only $2000. The other players are all suspicious, but they didn't see what we saw on the track. They ask how they got two green apples. Alex says that he heard Nicole say it twice, and that's sort of where it ends.
Jon announces that they should have earned a total of $50,000 but there was a problem. Both Clay and Bobby and Craig and Victoria spoke after passing the finish line, so their money will be removed from the pot. So instead, they will add only $26,000 to the pot, bringing the total to $89,000. Clay tries to throw the spotlight on Bobby, claiming that he made a lot of mistakes. I think those can be chalked up to bobby not being all that bright, but I think Clay is the Mole.
Clay and Mark have a powwow about how they don't really trust Bobby and aren't sure about being in a coalition with him anymore. Mark suggests not outright telling Bobby that they're booting him from their All Man Women Haters Club, but instead just keeping him around in case he gets interesting information, but not sharing anything with him. Clay agrees, and says that he wants another rational person to bounce ideas. I thought Clay was trying to bring a new person into the coalition to replace Bobby, but I guess he was saying that Mark is a rational person. That's debatable. The segment ends with Mark confessing that he only trusts Clay, and Clay confessing that he only trusts himself. Heh.
The morning, the players are told to get dressed in their Sunday best. As they drive to their location, Victoria guesses that they're going to get buttered up and then get hit with a mission. The players arrive at a spa and change into bathing suits. There's a pool, a spa, a sauna, and even a waterslide. Craig in particular loves the last one. Kristen finally gets Nicole to talk about the luge mission. Nicole admits that she said apple twice. Kristen and Bobby both think that Nicole is trying to make people think she's the Mole, but they don't think she actually is. The players all get various types of massages. Alex confesses that you go into a massage wanting a release. What kind of massage parlor does he think this is? There's no happy ending here. Bobby picks up on the fact that Mark is distancing himself, and then starts babbling about how Jon was eating an apple yesterday, and Paul is from the Big Apple. Bobby would fit in well on our forums.
As the players return to the locker room, they discover that Jon has taken all their clothes, so they are left wearing the spa robes. Jon tells them that their clothes are at the cleaners. They split into teams and are told that they have to make their way to a restaurant across town in about two hours, and before they arrive, they have to be dressed in nice clothing (collared shirts, ties, and pants for the men, two-piece top and pants or skirt for the women). Each group is given a card with the restaurant's address on it. They can beg, borrow, or steal their clothes from the locals. Craig says what everyone was thinking: "There's not a person in Santiago that wears my size." Each player that arrives in the restaurant and is admitted according to the dress code will add $5000 to the pot. Some of the players are naked underneath their robes, and they have to leave the robes behind, so Jon provides Mole Speedos for the guys, and Mole sports bras and booty shorts for the ladies. Mark immediately strips down to his underwear, like this is no problem. Jon adds that if they don't make it to the restaurant, they don't get to eat tonight.
All of the women had to take the Mole costumes, and Victoria and Kristen are wearing knee-high boots, so they looks like... well, hookers. Clay immediately announces that he's not doing it, because he needs to keep his dignity. Whuh? He's on a reality show. His dignity left a long time ago. Also, remember when Bill (who was The Mole in Season 2) refused to do a mission for the same reason? Interesting. Mark immediately jumps on the dignity bandwagon, even though he was stripping down before. Does he suspect Clay and wants to keep an eye on him? If they had a true coalition, Mark should split up from Clay so they can gather information separately. Now they are both cut off from seeing who tried to sabotage and how.
The first team, the Rejects, consists of Bobby, Craig, and Nicole. Just picture that. Skinny scrawny Bobby, big tubby Craig, and Nicole. In their underwear. Craig jokes, "Bobby and I look like a walking impersonation of the number 10." So true. They almost get one guy to give his shirt, but he changes his mind. Bobby manages to remember his Spanish, and then one woman tells Bobby that he needs food more than clothes. Heh. He really does, though.
The team, the Hotties, consists of Victoria, Kristen, and Ali. They get catcalls, whistles, and marriage proposals. It's actually kind of uncomfortable. And then! Two busloads of Catholic schoolboys pull up, and they start freaking out over the girls. For some reason, the girls don't accept any clothing from them, and yet the boys follow them for two blocks. I guess it's supposed to be funny, but it kind of grosses me out.
Alex and Paul are the final team: the Guys. Alex's Spanish skills come in handy again as he convinces some cab drivers to give them some shirts immediately.
The Rejects met some success as Bobby gets a shirt from some guy, and then Nicole gets a blouse from some woman. Some lady in a store gives Nicole a skirt, and then she acquires an apron, so she's fully dressed now.
The Hotties walk down the street, and Victoria is just yelling Spanish at people. Ali says sadly that people were not willing to help them, although they do get one sweater from a girl. After that, they didn't get anything for about forty-five minutes. Ali gets discouraged, because her feet hurt and men won't stop whistling at them. Ali finally suggests quitting, but Kristen and Victoria want to soldier on.
There's a quick shot of Jon waiting at the restaurant and they show the name of the restaurant in shadow on the ground. It was a weird shot so I thought it might be a clue, but of what, I do not know. The Boys manages to get pants and a tie for Paul, so he's all set. Then Paul manages to find a paesan from New York, and the guy left a pair of pants in the hostel where he's been staying. They go to the hostel and fetch the pants for Alex, and then get the tie from some guy in an outdoor cafe. They are the first to show up in the cafe. Paul looks like a high school math teacher with his short-sleeved button down shirt, but they get into the restaurant anyway.
The Hotties finally meet up with some Americans, and convince the men to give them the shirts off their backs. , they finagle some cardigan sweaters, and then a restaurant manager gives them three pairs of black pants. The Hotties are thrilled, and they also gain entrance to the restaurant.
So now it's just the Rejects. Bobby suggests finding a laundromat where they can find leftover clothes. Some locals take them to a costume shop, where Bobby finishes off his outfit and Craig finally finds a shirt, but is having trouble finding pants that are big enough. This is like the most nightmarish bathing suit shopping trip ever. Craig spots a laundromat, and when he goes inside, realizes that all of their clothes are there. This is where they were taken for cleaning. So the rejects get to put their own clothes back on, as well as pick up everyone else's clothes. They're heroes! Craig and Bobby share a hug of glee over finally contributing to a mission's success.
Mark and Clay show up in the restaurant but are not allowed inside, since they are still in their robes. Inside, Jon tells everyone that they've added $40,000 to the pot. He also reveals that the cards with the address of the club also had the address to the laundromat in code. Of course, the Rejects just stumbled upon it, so there's that.
The night, the players have their pre-execution meal. Jon asks who is really committed to the game. Craig points out Mark, since he's taking notes as they speak. So this leads to Paul and Mark arguing over whether Mark is obsessing. And then everyone gets pulled into Paul's tornado of suck and everyone starts arguing with him. Well, some people are just sitting there looking like they'd like to punch him in the face. But Bobby looks especially rattled. Paul is ruining this show. Seriously. If you saw seasons, everyone got along, and even the few that didn't (Elavia, Charlie) were sort of laughable in a good way. Fuck off, Paul.
After the quiz, the players report to find out the results. Before any results are revealed, Jon pulls out a $20,000 bribe if anyone wants to leave the game right now. No one takes it. The following people are revealed as safe: Kristen, Mark, and Victoria. With seven players left, Jon ups the bribe offer to $30,000 to leave right now. And Ali takes it! And leaves the game. Alex thinks it was a smart move, but Bobby says that even if there were only two people left unsafe, and he were one of them, he wouldn't take the money. Jon returns and say that Ali would have been safe, which is cool because I was wondering about that.
So then you'd think the episode is over, because in the second season when Elavia took the bribe, Anderson joked that they would still have an execution and then told them he was joking, while he did a happy dance. I miss Anderson. Anyway, Jon blows everyone's mind when he says that there's still going to be an execution. Alex is safe, and Bobby goes home. Victoria just starts sobbing, and everyone actually does look shocked. I bet some of those people were voting for Bobby as the Mole. Paul, of course, is not sad to see either player go because it means he's closer to the money. Please let him leave week.
My Mole pick is still Clay, especially since it seems like Craig might die week when they have to hike a mountain.
