By Pablo G | Season 1 | Episode 17 | Aired on 04.06.2010
it of second-guessing by Jonah is the last straw. Simon tells Jonah he's off the project. Close-up of devastated Jonah face. Is there any other kind of Jonah close-up?Back at Coal. Ella shows up and starts in on Lauren for pulling this stunt for David. Lauren calls Ella out for pulling a disappearing act after Lauren admitted she was a prostitute. Ella doesn't want to necessarily talk about the hooker stuff. She just doesn't want anything to change between them. Fair enough. Ella goes off and finds David working at the bar to ask him the favor of breaking into WPK. David's too busy to entertain such fancy and he figures while he has Ella there, he'll make her go take a drink order at one of the tables that's been waiting a while. Ella grudgingly accepts the task since this'll probably sway David to do her bidding. She gets over to the table and it's an older woman by herself. Ella begins to take the order and then recognizes the lady and suddenly becomes a better waitress, offering to bring out all of the drinks the woman is debating on ordering. Ella goes back to David to inform him that this lady is Bernadette Reese, a very important food critic. If she writes Coal a bad review, it will close overnight, says Ella. Perfect.

Coal again. They're about to take Bernadette's plate out, but Ella stops everything because she has a better idea of what Bernadette might like since WPK did publicity for her book. Ella picks things off the plate. They finally take it out to her and everyone stands back in the kitchen, watching in agony as she eats her meal. They react to every small thing Bernadette does, postulating about what those things might mean. This is supposed to be goofy and ridiculous. Kudos?
At Riley's thing. Suddenly everyone's a child within! Yay! Drew plays the rock version of "The Itsy Bitsy Spider" with his band... and this looks exactly like the stupid dog party. Riley's excited because the silent auction brought in more money than she thought it would. She points out to Drew there was even a bidding war for Jonah's day on the set of "Living in Reverse." Drew gets irritated at the mention of Jonah and grabs a microphone to get the attention of the whole gathering. He gets up on stage and inserts a private show from his band into the auction, but nobody wants to bid. He's floundering in front of everyone so he grabs Riley and changes his auction entry to a date with her. He opens up the bidding and people seem to actually want to go on a date with Riley. If only they knew the perils therein. Everything's going smoothly until Jonah shows up and starts bidding. Awwww crap.
Coal. Bernadette is gone already. She just paid her check in cash and bolted. That sucks. David thinks it's over. Coal is over. The world is over. All he's got left is some retired hooker. Lauren says everything is going to be fine. David still doesn't believe anything she says -- what with her being an expert hooker liar. Lauren breaks down and starts talking about who she really is. Her dad never loved her or approved of her straight A's. Everything she's done, including being a hooker has been so she could win her dad's love. Ugh. Why does it have to be daddy issues? "Now you know who I am." We already knew all this, Lauren. Thanks for playing.
Bidding for Riley has gone up to $800. Drew jumps in for $850. Jonah gets to $1000. Going once. Going twice. Ella walks in and bids $2,000, winning the auction. Thank you, Ella. Thank you so much. Even when you have no right being in a scene, you always save the day. She looks over at Jonah who has a look of "Didn't know you were there" on his face.

Ella fills out her donation form back at the auction. She tells Jonah it's a good cause and she loves the environment. Jonah has to remind her it's money for Riley's school thing. He adds he was only bidding to try to drive up the price for Drew. Jonah asks if Ella's mad. She says she's not mad, but in woman speak that means she is mad. Jonah says he figured he might as well offer his money to charity while he still can. That's Jonah speak for "I got fired." Ella offers to talk with Curtis, but Jonah wants to handle this himself. He also wants to have a stay at home date night, but Ella says she has to work tonight. Riley interrupts to thank Ella for the generous donation. Ella says it's nothing since the money is from WPK's charity fund on which she's a part of the committee. Also, Ella has no intention of actually going on a date with Riles. Ella's so smart. She heads for the bar. Riley asks about the casting. Jonah says he got fired for trying to cast Riley's character and not finding anyone good enough. Riley holds back a smile. She points out to Jonah that six months ago this school program of hers was just a dream and now it's happening. "Don't let anyone take your dream away."
Jonah shows up at Curtis Heller's place. He thinks Jonah blew it for not compromising. Jonah doesn't want to compromise. He just wants his movie back, but Curtis doesn't want to give it back. He owns it. Another devastated Jonah close-up.
Back at the site of the fundraiser, Riley and Drew are cleaning up. Drew gives Riley an "I told you so" about Jonah wanting her back. Riley shrugs it off and tells Drew he's in trouble for trying to auction her off. She pulls him into the bouncy thing. They jump around for a bit in a cross-fade montage until Riley ends up on top of Drew and they start making out. Yuck.
WPK. Ella and David sneak around in all black with flashlights. They talk back and forth as they make their way to the computer where they'll be entering the stolen key code. Ella's upset about having to wear a digital watch. So adorable. She's also irritated Jonah didn't help her because of his moral center, but she points out to David that's also what she finds adorable about Jonah. Ella admits she was a little jealous at the auction. David thinks Jonah might actually be piercing her emotional armor. David enters the code into the computer and it doesn't work. They go up to Amanda's office instead and break into her physical file cabinet. They thumb through and find a folder for Sydney. Inside, there are pictures of the painting Amanda is after. Ella takes a picture of it. "So this is why Amanda slithered back to LA." Yeah, pretty lame, huh?

ULA. David finds Lauren. He tells her Bernadette's review has been posted. David wants to read it together with Lauren. It's a glowing review. David thanks Lauren and she points out that they still make a good team together. Drew enters the room and interrupts. He needs to speak urgently with Lauren. He takes her aside and shows Lauren one of the heart valves Michael invented. This particular one was inside of his patient who died earlier. Drew claims they are leaking toxins which are killing people and he needs Lauren's help since she is on Dr. Mancini's team. She needs to be aware that the people she is treating might be worse off for the treatment. Yawn. People die no matter what you do.
Jonah comes down to the pool to have drinks with Ella. Ella admits she didn't have to work last night and was instead breaking into WPK as a cat burglar. She also admits to having gone on a date with Gabe Taylor so she could break into WPK. Jonah's a little flabbergasted, but Ella is telling him because she doesn't want to lie to Jonah. "You deserve to know the truth always." They smile and kiss. Ella wants Jonah to join her upstairs so they can get freaky. Jonah gets a call from Curtis and turns out Owen Anderson kicked Simon off the project. Owen actually wants Jonah to direct instead. Riley walks into the courtyard across the way and Jonah calls out to her to tell her the news, but she's with Drew, so Jonah just keeps it to himself. Sad face.
