We open at the doctor's office. The oncologist from last week shows Rose her tumor on a scan, and points out the mass that is "encroaching on [her] spinal cord," and notes it as the reason she's been having those back pains. Great. Rose looks absolutely terrified. Patch asks some doctorly questions about surgical resection. The doctor suggests a course of chemo first, before they go ahead with surgery. Rose, who is still clearly in shock, asks if it's definitely cancer. Oh, man. The doctor tells Rose that it is; the mass showed an osteosarcoma, grade 2B. Now it's Patch's turn to look terrified, as the doctor explains to Rose that "2B" means abnormal cells that have already started to spread into the surrounding tissue. Rose asks when she can have surgery. The doctor repeats that chemo comes first, then surgery. She suggests that they start the day. Rose says, "Tomorrow? But I have a lunch, and two board meetings, and I told Amy that I would take her dress shopping." Patch gently tells Rose that they can reschedule all that. Rose says she didn't expect this. Patch, on the verge of tears, says he knows. Rose tells Patch she's scared, and we pan down to their tightly clutched hands. Credits. Aaaand, tears.

Everwood proper. Bright and Ephram are just leaving a place I can't quite identify. Bright tells Ephram he needs to see if he can crash at "Clooney's place" on his trip through Europe, and also suggests hitting Amsterdam for a visit to the Green Light District. Ephram corrects, "Red light." Bright says that makes no sense. "Green. Means 'go.'" Hee. Ephram whines that he still doesn't know how he's going to pay for his big European vacation. Bright wants to know why he doesn't just ask his dad, already. "I'm sure he'd buy you your own European country right now if you would just talk to him for five minutes." Ephram says he is just not going to do that; he was, however, thinking of inviting someone to go with him so they could share expenses. Bright says he'd love to, but he's already kind of got his summer planned out. This includes taking an online class -- which would "be a lot cooler if you had a robot teacher instead of a real one" -- and maybe some classes at ECC. Ephram is surprised at this new and improved Bright. Bright says it's not that big of a deal. Ephram says it's big enough to pass up a trip to Europe. Bright starts second-guessing himself, but Ephram says if he's finally getting his shit together, he shouldn't blow it now. Bright's like, "Isn't it weird how I'm the responsible one now, and you're all messed up and lost?" Ephram says he's not quite ready to accept the irony just yet, thanks. Bright says not to worry, he's sure he'll do something much stupider than knocking up his girlfriend and throwing away his future. He adds, "Is it too soon for jokes?" Dear Bright: It is never too soon for jokes about Ephram. Hey, remember when I used to love Ephram? Not anymore. CALL ME.

Brown House. Treat is settling down to a gigantic bowl of cereal when Nina walks in all, "Good morning, neighbor!" She makes a dash for the coffee and asks Treat what he's doing tomorrow night. Treat says he's got some papers to file, and some drawers to clean. My first thought was that Treat needed to wash his underwear, which is what I get for being from the south. Nina offers him a slightly more exciting evening: she has two tickets to the opera. Treat perks up a little. "You mean...with you?" Nina says, actually, she thought he and Ephram could use them. Treat deflates. Not such a good idea, he says. Nina asks if they're still not talking. Treat says they've worked out a system where they occupy the same house but never the same room. Aw. Nina says she's sorry, and tells him to take the tickets anyway, as a thank-you gift. Treat asks what he's being thanked for. Nina says Dimples told her about their conversation from last week. Treat's all, "Oh? What did he say? I mean...what did he say I said?" Nina says she didn't get a lot of details, just that Treat offered some much-needed perspective on how great she is. Treat grins nervously and fakes, "Well, that's me. Here to help!" Nina asks him if he's feeling okay, and notes that he's looking a little sweaty. Ha! Treat lies that he's just warm from the flannel shirt he's wearing. "You know. Creates heat. Anyway, I'm late for a patient." He practically runs out the door, calling back to Nina that she can stay if she wants, have some more coffee, whatever, bye now. Nina looks perplexed.

Amy and Hannah are at Aveda, where Hannah is getting a pre-prom makeup makeover. Hannah can't believe she has to come back on the day of prom and get made up all over again. Welcome to being pretty, Hannah. Amy looks adorable in braids and a bandanna. She tells Hannah that a second trip is totally necessary, as liquid eyeliner can be tricky. Hannah: "Don't you need to be at home wallowing in post-breakup depression?" Amy says she already did that this morning, and has more plans for it this evening, so right now it's all about Topher. The Aveda makeup lady, who is going to town with the blue eye shadow, asks Hannah if Topher is her boyfriend. Amy echoes, "Yeah, is Topher your BOYFRIEND?" Hannah says she objects to that line of questioning. Amy tells her she can't object. "I just broke up. You need to do things that make me happy." Hannah says she doesn't know, and besides, they haven't even kissed yet, so it's confusing. Amy needs to know how it is possible that Hannah and Topher haven't kissed yet. Hannah says they just haven't. "But I'm happy about it, you know, it means that he respects me." Oh, Hannah. Amy's like, "Uh huh." Hannah thinks he's just waiting for the perfect moment. Amy tells her it doesn't get much more perfect than prom, so she better bring some extra gum. Hannah starts to freak a little bit. Amy tells her to just enjoy it, because sometimes you forget to and then you break up and all those moments are gone, like when your boyfriend looked at you a certain way, or -- and here, Amy tears up -- brought you a cookie that was all nice and warm from the snack bar. Hannah's all, "Awwww, don't cry. I'll bring you a cookie." Amy composes herself, then looks at Hannah in shock. Hannah looks in the mirror and gasps at her hideous, neon- eye-shadowed, magenta-lipsticked self. Amy: "Uh, we'll just take the blush."

Abbott House. Patch comes home to find Rose cooking up a storm. He reminds her that she's supposed to be resting. Rose says she feels just fine, and she's making a roast chicken and potatoes, which everyone loves. She adds that they're having rice pudding for dessert. "You know how Bright needs his sugar when he's feeling upset." Aw. Patch wonders what Dr. Atkins would think of this dinner. Rose says Dr. Atkins can bite her bum; she wants everyone to feel full and happy and safe when they tell them. I can't take it. Patch tells Rose she's a good woman. Rose goes to open the oven, stops, and grimaces in pain. Patch walks over and tells her to please sit down. She does, reluctantly, and Patch goes about washing the potatoes. He says he's been thinking that maybe they shouldn't tell the kids just yet; it might be better to wait until they know more about what's going on. Rose asks, "But, wouldn't they notice if I suddenly felt ill, or had to miss work?" Patch says sadly, they probably won't. "They're teenagers. They'd sooner notice a 2-for-1 sale on Stridex pads." He says they don't have to decide anything right now, though. Rose starts to cry. Patch puts his arm around her, and asks, "Sweetheart?" Rose complains that she can't even finish making a simple meal. Patch tells her that, first of all, there's nothing simple about a roast chicken, then says, "Rose, you have always taken care of me. Now it's my turn. Let me take care of you for a change." He kisses her on the head. Rose considers this, and decides, "Well, you better get a move on if you're going to get th

is feast to the table in time." Patch asks her if she'd prefer a lemon or herb-rubbed chicken. Rose thinks a lemon's always nice. "Then a lemon it is," says the best husband EVER, as he gets to chopping. Commercials.

When we come back, Ephram is in his studio with some dude he met on the internet. Kind of. He explains to the guy -- whom you probably know from High Fidelity, but who is best known to me as "Chad the Child Technician" from Jerry Maguire, shut up I love that movie -- that, as he said on Craigslist, all "this stuff" has got to go. Chad asks if that includes all the furniture, too, because he's already formed quite a friendship with the couch he's lying on. Ephram says he's happy for them both, and explains how some of his equipment works. Chad finds everything "excellent," and gets out his checkbook while filling in Ephram on his new band: "Punk meets new wave meets LeAnn Rimes -- her early stuff. It's very excellent." Awesome. Chad says he wants everything, and asks if the "baby G" piano is for sale. Ephram says the piano is not included. Chad asks if he's given up on the dream. Ephram says kind of, and that he's going to Europe for an undetermined amount of time, to get his head together. Chad would like to know, then, what Ephram is doing holding on to the piano. And out it goes.

Abbott/Brown Office. Treat informs Patch that this is the second day in a row he's been late. Patch says he had to pick up a few things from the pharmacy. Treat says he covered Patch's 9:00 appointment. Patch is like, "You want a thank you? I covered your ass plenty of times last year." Treat says he certainly doesn't mind taking more of his patients. Patch says he can't do this with him right now, and drops the bomb: Rose has cancer. Treat doesn't know what to say, and says so. Patch tells Treat that Rose has a tumor encroaching on her spine. "Can you imagine what kind of pain she's in, because I can't." Treat asks what stage. "2B," Patch answers. "I just thought Rose was havin' a little spell, nothing to be too alarmed about, why would I be? The woman barely sneezes at the height of flu season." Treat says that's a good sign; it shows that she's strong. Patch agrees cynically, "Yep, nothing slows her down. Mayor of Everwood, mother of two, she can take care of the whole world and still have dinner on the table by six." He says that Rose looked at her the night before, as they were getting into bed, and he saw fear in her eyes for the first time ever -- and there's nothing he can say to help, because he's scared as hell too. "So what good am I, huh?" He sweeps all the contents of his desk onto the floor. "And it's all my fault." Treat asks why that is. Patch says Rose came to him weeks, maybe even months, ago complaining that her back was hurting, and she wasn't feeling right. Treat says there's no way he could know. Patch says of course not, but if she'd been a patient he would have run tests immediately. "My own wife. I promised her 'through sickness and health,' and the very moment she needs me, I just...failed her." Treat says nothing. Patch hears his 10:00 come in, and goes out to meet them.

In less heartbreaking areas of Everwood, Amy is taking pictures of Hannah and Topher before the prom. Hannah looks beautiful. Topher looks goofy. Amy totally moms it up, all, "Okay, move a little closer. Topher, put your arm around her. How about a little kiss on the cheek?" Amy's camera battery dies, and Hannah just wants to leave, but Amy insists on running upstairs for an extra. While they're waiting, Bright comes home. He takes a good look at Hannah and says, "Damn. You really poured yourself into that dress." He means it as a compliment, but Hannah takes it as a great affront. Topher doesn't make it any better by asking, "Does that mean it's too tight? Can you breathe?" Hannah says through clenched teeth that she's fine, Topher. Bright asks them what they're doing there, anyway. Hannah says they came for Amy, and to tell her they said good night. Bright is so dumb.

Brown House. Delia runs downstairs and asks Treat where her sleeping bag is. Treat tells her to try the hall closet. She starts looking, and Treat asks her how she feels about being cultural tonight. He explains that Nina gave him two tickets to the opera, and maybe they could go together. Delia says she has plans to spend the night with Brittany. Treat says that's fine, he'll just catch up on his reading. He asks Delia if she still reads, because that's very important. Delia is like, "Are you okay, Dad? You sound lonely." Treat says he's fine. Delia suggests he go with Nina. Treat says Nina's busy. Delia: "Did you ask her?" Heh. Treat says if Nina gave him the tickets to go with someone else, it would be weird to ask her. Delia says she knows this might be embarrassing, because she was embarrassed when Brittany asked her if she liked Ethan... Treat interrupts, "You like Ethan?" Delia shoots back, "Do you like Nina?" Treat tries to laugh it off, all, "What? Nooooo. Nina's my friend, and besides, she's dating Jake." Delia: "So? Ethan likes Maggie, but that doesn't mean I can't like him." Treat nods in understanding. Delia says anyway, she doesn't think it's dumb if he likes Nina, and she always kind of wanted him to like her. Treat: "You have?" Delia: "She's perfect for you. She thinks your bad jokes are funny even though they're not, plus she's nice to everyone. The way Mom was." I'm dying. Treat agrees that Nina is, isn't she? Brittany's mom honks, and Delia says she has to go. She tells Treat to pick her up at ten, then says, "Actually, make it 10:30. I've been exhausted lately." Treat grins, and goes back to reading his newspaper. ALONE.

Brenda Baxworth is showing Bright a crappy apartment and trying to pass it off as an awesome steal. Bright says he just needs a minute to call his "associate." His associate turns out to be Hannah, who is standing in the bathroom at her prom. He asks Hannah if six hundred dollars a month is too much for a crappy studio. Hannah: "Oh. Hello, Brighton." Brighton! He's in big trouble. Brighton says he's not sure if it's a good deal. Hannah tells him that he may not have noticed, in his egomaniacal haze, that she is actually at her prom. Bright doesn't care, really, but asks why he doesn't hear any music. Hannah says she's in the bathroom. Bright: "Oh. Number one or number two?" Excellent. Hannah tells him they do not have that kind of relationship. Bright says fine, but she said she would help him with apartment-hunting. Hannah says first of all, she was, but not while she's at her prom. "And secondly? I am clearly not gonna help you NOW." Bright asks why not. Hannah, working herself into a frenzy, says, "Poured myself in? POURED MYSELF IN?" Bright starts smiling to himself, because he's evil. Hannah continues, "What is that, like batter into a pastry slutbag or something?" Bright's all, "What, the dress thing?" Hannah says yes, the dress thing, and asks him why he would say something like that. Bright says it just didn't look like the kind of dress she'd buy. Hannah argues that he's never even seen her in a dress, so how would he know? Bright tells her there's nothing wrong with a tight dress OR a pastry bag, so just chill out. Hannah will not chill out. She says she has to go. Bright tells her to wait. "Do you and that Loafer kid have a toilet talk kind of relationship?" This is so beautiful. Hannah: "His name is TOPHER. And no. I don't know. Goodbye." Bright hangs up his phone, turns to Brenda Baxworth, and tells her "we" might need just a little more time to think about it.

Back at the Brown house, Treat takes the opera tickets and heads out to Ephram's studio, so he and his son can make peace over fat ladies singing loudly in Italian. He knocks, and when nobody answers, walks in. The place is completely empty, except for a few boxes scattered around. Treat goes into shock, collapses, and dies. Oh, you know I'm kidding. He just stands there, as usual. Commercials

.

Topher walks Hannah to her door. He asks her if she had fun. "Wasn't that punch just amazing? I couldn't tell if you were enjoying it, but I had like four glasses." Hannah says it was really good -- maybe they added some extra sugar or something. Topher says he was totally thinking that, too! Run, Hannah! Run from the nerd! When they get to the front steps, Hannah stops and waits expectantly. Topher stutters that he should probably be going. Hannah is like, "Okay. No, WAIT." She asks him if he was thinking about, maybe, kissing her. Ever. Topher says, "Like now?" Hannah says yeah...or not, but they've had four dates, and one of them involved formalwear. She tells him she personally thinks their dates have all been very nice, but if he doesn't like her? Topher says of course he likes her: "You're the only person who understands why a turtleneck vest is stupid." Hannah: "Well, of course, 'cause your arms get cold." My God. I don't know whether to laugh or cry. Hannah's like, "Anyway. Why don't we just go on three?" Topher thinks this is a fine plan. Hannah starts counting, and Topher goes in early with what is, quite possibly, the most awful, most unsexy, most clumsiest kiss ever recorded. I wouldn't give my mother a kiss like that. Lord. Hannah looks like she's been smacked in the mouth by a flounder. Topher's all, "Wow." Hannah thanks him, and he walks off, saying he'll call her. Hannah's all, "Oookay." She stands there for a minute, trying to shake it off. Poor Loafer. He's history.

Treat is waiting for Ephram in his room. Ephram walks in, and actually speaks. "You're in my room." Treat: "You have something to tell me?" Ephram says no, not really. Treat's like, "Oh? Nothing you want to share? No major changes? Bought or sold anything substantial?" Ephram gets it. Treat asks him where everything is. Ephram says it's gone, because he sold it. Treat tells him to unsell it. Ephram says he can't. Treat: "Yeah, you can. And you will." Ephram says he knows Treat thinks he did this just to get back at him, but that's not the case -- he's putting together a plan, and he needed some cash. God, shut up. You're flying to Europe on an airplane. You're visiting the Tower of London. You're not putting together anything, Danny Ocean. Treat points out that it's not his money. Ephram gets all nine-tenths of the law, which I hate: "That stuff was a gift for me, right? Well, I didn't need the stuff anymore, I needed the money so I could get out of here." Treat, who should totally be like "my house, my rules, asshole," but is a pussy, asks Ephram where he's planning on going. Ephram declares that he's going to Europe, because he can't keep living here hating his dad, and there's nothing left in Everwood for him anyway. Treat reminds Ephram that he's eighteen years old, with no college education or job possibilities. "What are you going to do?" Ephram says he doesn't know, but that's what he was hoping he'd find out. He asks for his passport. Treat says he's sorry, but he just can't let him do this. Ephram says, for like the millionth time ever, that Treat can't stop him. Don't you see, Dad? He's unstoppable! Can't be stopped! Stopping: not an option! WE GET IT. Ephram looks at Treat defiantly. Treat walks out without a word, which we all know means he's given in.

Bright is apartment-hunting again, this time with Ephram. Brenda Baxworth impatiently points out the closet and bathroom. Bright asks her if it's just him, or if this place looks exactly like the last place they saw. Brenda: "Which one? I've shown you nine so far." Heh. Bright says he just wants to sample the milk before he buys the cow. Ephram cuts in to say that, technically, he'd be renting the cow. Brenda's phone rings, and she excuses herself, adding that perhaps it's someone who will actually pay her for her services. Bright asks Ephram what he thinks. Ephram says at least it doesn't smell like hot dogs, like that other place. Bright: "I know! Above a Weinerschnitzel, what're you gonna do?" Mmm, Weinerschnitzel. When we were both living in Texas, Al Lowe and I spent many a chili-cheese-fried night with that place. It was totally gross. AND DELICIOUS. Bright asks Ephram if he's sure he doesn't want to be his roommate. Ephram says he can't, because he got the money together for Europe. Bright's like, "Damn, that was fast. What did you do, sell your soul?" Ephram doesn't admit that he kind of did, and just says it was easier than he thought it would be. He changes the subject: "So, does this place have central air?" Bright says he doesn't know, and remembers that Hannah had a whole list of important questions he was supposed to ask. Ephram tells him to call her. Bright says he can't; she's mad at him. Ephram asks him what he did this time. Bright: "Nothing. She thinks I insulted her." Ephram: "Well, did you?" Bright says not intentionally -- he said something about her dress, then she got all girly. Ephram observes that that's kind of what girls do, and asks why she was wearing a dress, anyway. Bright reminds him about prom. Ephram: "Oh, yeah, she's got that boyfriend." Bright obviously doesn't like this, and is all, "No, no, he's not her boyfriend." Ephram says they're dating, and he took her to prom, so what else would you call him? Bright: "Personally, I'd call him an asshat." Ephram says he can't believe that Bright is jealous of Topher Cole. Bright tries to be all hard, like, he's so sure he's jealous of Topher Cole. This could not be more awesome.

Ephram moves on to another subject, asking if the window moldings are original, but Bright still wants to talk about Hannah: "So I should probably apologize to her, right? I mean, right?" Ephram says he's going to go out on a limb here and take note of the fact that they've been in the apartment for ten minutes now, and he hasn't even checked the water faucets yet -- instead, he's been obsessing over Hannah. Bright argues that he is not obsessing. Ephram rags that he thinks it's great; they'd make a really, really cute couple. Bright says Hannah isn't even his type, how could he be into her? "I mean, she's cute, but not like make-out-with-her cute. And besides, she's my friend. When you're my friend, that's...like...just how it is, or whatever. So...what? Why are you smiling?" Ephram: "You realize the last two things you said made no sense, right?" Bright rolls his eyes and tells Ephram to go to Europe already. Love.

Abbotts'. Rose is brushing her hair in the bathroom. She examines the brush until she realizes that Patch is watching her. He inquires tenderly, "How you feeling?" Rose says she's much better than this morning, and asks if he remembered to get something from the drug store. Patch overreacts, throwing his jacket down on the bed. "No. Damn it!" Rose tells him not to worry about it; they can pick it up tomorrow. Patch says he's sorry. Rose assures him it's okay, and it's not the end of the world. Patch says no, he's sorry about everything -- for not listening to her, for dismissing her symptoms. Rose tells him to stop: "Your apologies are no good here." Patch sits down heavily on the bed. Rose climbs over to him, and says she was thinking earlier about their first date. Patch says he remembers: it was the annual Thaw Festival. Rose reminds him that she wanted to ride the teacups, but he was scared and made up some excuse about the ride not being up to standards. Aw. Patch says, as he recalls, they shared their first kiss on those teacups. Rose says they sure did, and that's when she knew they would fall in love. Patch asks if it's because he was such a good kisser. Rose: "No, dear." Heh. Rose says she remembers being terrified of the ride, since it went so much faster than she thought -- but then she buried her head in his arm, and felt safe. "And that is how I've felt every moment of my life with you. You have never let me down, Harold Abbott. Not me, and not the children. This family is what it is because of your strength and your commitment." Patch replies that his strength comes entirely from Rose. Rose: "And mine from you. And Bright and Amy get theirs from us. The four of us are a team." Patch asks if she thinks they should tell the kids. Rose says only if he feels ready. Just then, Amy bursts in to ask if they can please order some food, because she's starving and Bright is threatening to cook. Patch and Rose look at each other. Amy asks what's wrong, and we fade to the living room, where all four Abbotts sit together talking, while music of heartbreak plays in the foreground. Commercials.

We return to find Treat in his kitchen. Nina knocks on the door. Treat answers, all, "You knocked. That's...new." Nina says she just thought she'd try it. "Actually, it felt weird, but I feel a little weird right now." Treat asks her if she wants to come in for some coffee. Nina says that depends: "Are you going to run off and leave me alone with it again?" She says that's kind of what started the weirdness in the first place, and wonders if Treat is mad at her. Treat asks why he would ever be mad at her. Nina says it just seemed like something was off with them the other day. "Am I being crazy, or were you being stranger than normal?" Treat says she's not crazy -- he's upset because Ephram is leaving. Nina believes this big fat lie, and says she'll take that coffee now. Treat explains about Ephram and Europe and the garage sale. Nina apologizes for thinking it was all about her. Treat gets kind of sad, and says it's okay. Nina is all, "Aw, come here," and gives Treat a huge hug. Treat enjoys it more than he probably should, what with him being so aggrieved about Ephram and everything. Nina tells him she's here for anything he needs -- that's what neighbors are for, right? She says that means they didn't even get to go to the opera, and she would have gone with him if he'd asked. Treat gets this look, the one where he realizes he's an idiot, and Nina offers to cook him an omelet. I guess eggs are better than nothing, huh, Treat? No? Right.

Ephram's empty studio. Amy walks in and remarks on how small it looks. She says it's weird. Ephram tells her she didn't have to come by; he could have dropped her stuff off. Amy says she needed to get out of the house anyway. Ephram says he knows that feeling, and Amy takes this opportunity not to play the mom-with-cancer card, which is surprising and so fucking sad, because even Amy knows it's too big to use that way. Ephram shows her the box with all her stuff in it. Amy says she's pretty sure she doesn't have anything left of his, except that gray sweatshirt she'll be keeping. Ephram says it looks better on her anyway. They both start to say something. Ephram goes first, and spills it about leaving for Europe. Amy asks him when he's coming back. He admits he doesn't know yet. Amy says he's caught her kind of off guard here. Ephram says he knows, but he doesn't want to lose touch with her, and he'll call or email as soon as he can. Amy's like, "Sure, yeah, of course." Ephram asks her what she wanted to say. Amy still can't talk about her mom, so she says she got her housing for year at Princeton. Ephram congratulates her. Amy says she should go. Ephram says she could stay for a while, then remembers they can't do that. Amy gives him a tiny, sad, pitiful smile, and says, "Bye, Ephram." Ephram tells her bye, and she walks out.

Were you hoping for a happy scene? Forget it! Amy is sitting on the floor of her room, trying to hide her tears from Hannah. Hannah says the only thing she can liken kissing Topher to is kissing a piece of salmon. "Not that I've kissed a fish before, but you know what I mean. It was like...here, lick your hand." Amy says she's sorry, but she's really not in the mood. Hannah thinks this is all about Ephram, and says how dumb she is for blabbing on about stupid Topher while Amy's dealing with seeing Ephram. Amy says it was okay, really; she's okay. Hannah says she doesn't have to be, that Ephram was this huge love of her life. Amy says it's not that, and starts crying for real. Hannah asks what's wrong. Amy says it's so crazy that less than a month ago, they were sitting in this room talking about Hannah's dad, and the possibility that she could have Huntington's, and how huge that was. And now they're talking about her first kiss, which takes up the same amount of headspace, but it doesn't clench so much, or weigh you down. Hannah realizes this is no longer about Ephram, and implores Amy to just tell her what it is. "Say it fast." Amy can barely talk. "It's my mom. She has cancer." Hannah holds Amy while she cries. I hate this show.

Bright finds Hannah in the Abbotts' kitchen, and asks her if she's cooking. Hannah tells him he doesn't have to eat it if it's bad. Bright says he should probably apologize. Hannah says he doesn't have to; it seems kind of silly now, doesn't it? Bright: "Well. You did call me 'Brighton.'" Hannah says it was a pretty bad night all around, and suggests they just forget it ever happened. Bright says that's fair enough. He tells her he can't believe she knows how to make something out of scratch. Hannah says it's not really a big deal; she kind of had to learn early. Bright reaches over her onto the cutting board, and it is very hot. He says maybe he should learn how to cook, too. Hannah: "You taking my job away from me already?" Bright says he just feels bad that she had to do this stuff for her parents all the time, and now she's doing it for his family, too. Hannah says it seems right to her. "Y

ou guys have been like my family this whole year. I mean, I...I don't, like, think of you as my brother." Hee. Bright says he gets it, and makes a "huh" noise. Hannah asks him what. Bright: "What?" Hannah: "You just said, 'Hmph.'" Bright gets embarrassed, all, "Naw. Uh...is there something I can do to help?" Hannah sets him to work tasting her soup. Bright says it's perfect. And IT IS.

A caption tells us that it's three weeks later. Patch opens the bathroom door and tells Rose he's almost ready. Rose, who has already lost her hair, sits on the bed. Patch chats away about what they should do after that day's appointment. Rose sits quietly as he talks about going to breakfast, and what a good day it's going to be. "Harold," she says finally, "I can't feel my legs." Patch looks at Rose questioningly, and we fade to black.
