Brooke and Tom come out and set out the stakes for tonight: two couples are going home. No dance duel, no second chance, just straight-up elimination the way that God intended it. But first! Len has to tell us who will be dancing the encore. Weirdly, Len has chosen Donald's three-way jive, which I thought was one of the best of the night and way underscored. I mean, that middle section with the side-by-side kicks and flicks was flawless last night and it's nearly flawless tonight. And it may look like Donald's not doing much while the girls dance, but he's moving the entire time. I don't get why they got lower scores.
Time for some results. Donald and Peta were disappointed with their scores for the jive, as they should have been. And Donald blames himself. Don't blame yourself! You were awesome! Blame Len and Bruno. Katherine and Mark got some of their lowest scores of the season last night. During their trio, Katherine's pant leg didn't come off as planned and Mark thanked Tristan for saving it. And yet they still got really high scores, which shocked them as much as anyone.
So Donald and Peta, Katherine and Mark, are they in jeopardy? Donald and Peta are safe but Katherine and Mark are in jeopardy. I think Katherine is a great dancer, but I would not be that upset if they go home because they are boring.
DanceCenter. It used to be the highlight of my season but someone must have told them to tone down because it's gone from roast-like jokes to gentle ribbing. Oh my God, these jokes are terrible. TERRIBLE. Like when Kenny wonders why there are always Disney kids on the show and then cut to Len and Jerry wearing Mickey Mouse ears. And then there's footage of Len in a Speedo. You guys, what just happened? Please hire new writers.
Chris Brown is on to perform. I'm not a fan. I'm not going to write anymore except to say that this guy is on this show A LOT.
Brooke is backstage with Katherine and Mark, Roshon and Chelsie, and William and Cheryl. Katherine says she's not ready to go home but she's happy to have made it this far. Mark adds a dig at the judges for calling Katherine off-balance because he doesn't think she was. Roshon babbles something lame about how "it is what it is." William says that their perfect score doesn't mean anything, because it's up to the fans.
up for results are William and Cheryl. I still don't get the perfect score for their foxtrot. Roshon and Chelsie did so well that Tom told him he was "the new comeback kid." When Roshon left last night, his grandmother guaranteed he'd get through.
And then holy shit, Brooke says that one of these couples is going to be eliminated right now. I thought they'd continue with the whole "in jeopardy" thing. I don't know if the couples caught that. Luckily, Tom reiterates it and then announces that Roshon and Chelsie are going home. Damn it. I was interested to see what Roshon would do . He improved so much this week! It must be a fanbase issue. So William and Cheryl are going to the semi-finals. Roshon and Chelsie join Tom and Brooke for their exit interview. Chelsie says that Roshon was a joy to work with and had a great attitude. And... they're out.
More DanceCenter. Hey, guess what they pick on Maria about? Her laugh. Way to go for the jugular, guys. Melissa broke her back. HA HA HA. Donald falls down a lot. Oh, please stop. My stomach hurts from all the not laughing.
It's a tribute to the late Dick Clark and American Bandstand. I think this show has a lot in common with that one in terms of how the people get into the personal lives of the dancers and the backstage antics. I read a bunch of my mom's old magazines from when she was a teen and it was all about who was dating whom and who broke up with whom and the like. It was fascinating. Nothing about the music. Just all about the backstage stuff. Anyway, Dick Clark had a huge impact on the landscape of American music and dancing, so it makes sense that they would pay tribute to him.
Did you know that instead of a tour, the dancers are doing a live show in Vegas this year? And here's an example of what you might see with a dance by Dmitry and Anya. Who? I don't know. Hey, guess what? Like ninety percent of the dances on the results show, it's a rumba! At least she's wearing shoes.
More results! Maria and Derek got spanked for not dancing in hold enough. But the other judges more than made up for it with 10s. Derek knew they might get in "trouble" for their samba, although I don't think he predicted the 7 from Len. Even the other dancers were shocked at that one. Rewatching Melissa's dance from last night, she really screwed up A LOT in the beginning and she knew it. Melissa has to give a confessional while sitting in between Maks and Val, shirtless. They both kiss her cheek and she asks for a cigarette. That actually made me laugh. Although all I could think about was how sweat y they probably are.
So with Maria and Derek and Melissa and Maks on stage, which couple is in jeopardy? Maria looks terrified. Maria and Derek are safe, so that means Melissa and Maks are in jeopardy along with Katherine and Mark.

And it's time for the final elimination of the night. Will it be Melissa or Katherine? It will really be a shame if Katherine goes before Melissa. Even if I think she's boring, Melissa has had like half a decent dance this entire season. I can't imagine that Katherine has the fanbase that Melissa does in this country, though. So who is it, show? Tell me! Melissa and Maks are going home. That's fair. As I stated in yesterday's recap, she's been terrible. She did much better last night but it's too little, too late. Katherine is just sobbing.
Melissa is crying too, and Brooke reveals that it's her birthday. I used to have a headshot of Melissa Gilbert on my bedroom wall during the Little House years. Of course, she's unrecognizable these days and after reading her book, I don't admire her quite as much as I once did. I just got a weird vibe. Anyway, she is pro and says that she's so happy to have made it as far as she did. Maks has kind words for her, and they take the stage to say goodbye along with Roshon and Chelsie. And that's it! I really hope Donald comes back and takes this whole thing. I'm officially on Team Driver now.
