Last night, there was a lift controversy! Sadly, on this show, that's about as controversial as it gets. It's not like they're debating universal health care or anything. But you know what this show does have going for it? It's LIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIVE!
Samantha tells us that she's excited to be back in time to eliminate someone. Whuh? She's excited to tell someone to go home? That seems kind of bloodthirsty. Tom previews the upcoming episode and then throws it to the recap package.
Did any of the dancers have any interesting comments after their dances? Mark didn't. Floyd appreciates ballroom dancing now. Mel wants truck drivers to vote for her, because they're her peeps, since Carrie Ann told her she talks like one. Helio laughs that Carrie Ann told him his dancing was sunny, because his name means sun. Julianne jokes that her name means Julianne. Jane claims that she watched the playback and her foot stayed on the floor. They show the playback, and her foot was not on the floor. I hate to pick on Jane, but she might need to get her eyes checked. I don't think it's a big deal. Jennie got dinged for doing a lift too, but was still pleased with her scores. Cameron yelled that he was a dancing Superman. I still can't believe the judges didn't say anything about Karina's scary upside-down move, but I think maybe they were afraid of Floyd, since he practically threatened them in his clip package before his dance.
Tom asks Len to speak to the lift controversy. Len thinks the pros have done a great job with the choreography so far, but he begs them to avoid doing lifts in the future, and promises that lifts will be penalized from now on. He adds that they should all just move on from what happened last night and quit arguing about it. I said this on the forums, because some people were mad that Jennie, Mel, and Jane got dinged a point from Carrie Ann for their lifts, when Cameron and Floyd did not. But I really doubt that one point is going to make the difference for those three women between going home and staying, so it's a wash. Len decides that this week, Cameron and Edyta will do the encore. Cameron and Edyta pretty much repeat exactly what they did the night, which I liked last night, and I still do. It's cheesy, but somehow less cheesy than Joey Fatone's Star Wars theme from last season. I don't think Cameron will win this thing, but at least for me, he justified his continued participation.
After the break, Tom announces that Gloria Estefan was originally supposed to perform tonight, but couldn't appear due to a family illness (her mother, I've read on news sites), so the show's regular singers are going to perform "Rhythm Is Gonna Get You." Have I mentioned that my dad, who is not exactly a pop music fan, especially songs recorded after about 1975, loves Miami Sound Machine? The dancers come out, and there is dancing. I don't know what else to tell you.
Hey, it's time to hear what last night's audience thought. Again, not a favorite segment. Ashley Del Grosso shows up with her baby to explain that the "no lift" thing is definitely in the rules. Cute baby! Ian Ziering says that he was really proud of Jennie. Audience members explain that you can do a great dance, but if people from home don't vote, you could go home. Really? I didn't know that.
Who is safe? Sabrina and Mark are staying, to the surprise of no one. Cameron and Edyta? Also safe. Well, obviously. The encore couple isn't going to go home. Guess who's backstage? Wayne Newton! Drew and Cheryl! And Ace Frehley! Oh, that's Wade Robson. With a sparkly red star drawn around his eye.
week, Jennifer Lopez will be on the results show. Will she announce her rumored pregnancy? But now it's time for Jimmy Kimmel and his buddy Guillermo. Jimmy is going to investigate viewer questions. The first person wonders how the dancers get so tan. Jimmy shows them the tanning room, and Mel walks out in a towel, then scurries off when Guillermo creeps her out. Guillermo decides that he wants a tan. When he walks out, it's a different guy, much shorter, and much more orange. What? That doesn't even make sense. I don't know.
Backstage, Samantha talks to the safe couples. She asks Sabrina how she will live up to the standard she's set with her perfect score. Sabrina says that she will try hard. Cameron says that he was confused when they asked him to do the encore, because he never dreamed he would be asked.
Now Wade Robson is going to dance. I've never watched Miss Alli]Previous123Next
Clip package on partnerships, featuring famous partners. Diane Sawyer and Robin Roberts. Rev Run and Russell Simmons. Joan and Melissa Rivers. They all talk about how important trust is. They also discuss respect. And how can you discuss partnership without discussing chemistry?
Tom segues to another safe/not-safe reveal. And who is safe? Mark and Kim! Wow. Mark is surprised and elated. Floyd and Karina? They're in the bottom two. I figured at least one of those two couples would be. But that means that Helio, Jennie, Marie, Jane, or Mel is also in the bottom two.
Samantha is backstage with Mark and Kym, along with Mel and Maks, who are relaxed and goofing around. They don't seem worried. Mark thanks the fans who voted and kept them in, even though the judges put them in last place. Samantha asks Mel if she's nervous. Wow, great question. Not.
Clip package on fear. Helio says that some people control their fear better than others. Marie runs down how she's not scared to sing in front of people, but she's afraid to dance. Mel says that if you screw up, there's no do-over. Jane has been having nightmares about blanking out and forgetting the steps. Cameron is worried he'll drop Edyta. Sabrina is scared of walking down the stairs in the beginning. I can't believe no one has done that. ["I'm pretty sure Cameron fell when he was entering down the stairs for literally the first time this season." -- Miss Alli] Jennie's biggest fear was falling, and then she did it, so now she knows that it's not the end of the world. Floyd has no fear. Mark uses his fear of failure as motivation. Jennie concludes that you never know what's going to happen.
Two more fates revealed. Jennie and Derek? Safe. Julianne and Helio? Also safe. And now we wait to see if the other person in the bottom two will be Marie, Jane, or Mel.
Finally, after another set of commercials, it's time for the main event. I normally watch this show time-delayed, so I fast-forward through commercials. How do people watch live television? There are so many commercials! Anyway, first let's hear about Marie and Jonathan. They're safe. What about Mel and Maks? They're in the bottom two! Samantha actually pauses dramatically before revealing that Jane and Tony are safe, like we couldn't do the math. Tom talks to the judges, and Bruno actually admits that Mel doesn't deserve to go home. Wow! They should ask Bruno every week.
So who's going home? Floyd and Karina. Well, that's about right. The judges give them a standing ovation. Floyd is grateful that he made it so far, and he had a great time. He's actually very gracious about it. Karina says that she got to know the real Floyd, and he's amazing. Tom points out that Floyd can now train full time for his upcoming fight. Floyd and Karina head to the floor as Samantha reminds us that week is Latin night. The kiss-off song this week is Supertramp, "Take the Long Way Home." Everyone hugs Floyd as the show ends.
