Marilu's focus on details sent her home and Trace into the looney bin, but none of that even matters because Donald Trump is about to fire two more celebrities just to move things along. Trace and Lil Jon walk up to the penthouse to meet Lisa and Penn, and before they can even pop the cork on the Final Four Champagne, Amanda calls them back into the boardroom. Like they didn't see this coming.
Trace tells the Trumps, using a loose gun analogy, that he still has some bullets left in him. He admits that he hasn't done so great since he moved to Team Power. Lil Jon argues his case , and Donald tries to bore holes in it. I think it should be Penn and Lil Jon. Lisa says she should stay because she has proven herself and is the second highest earner. By chance. Penn asks Donald Trump not to confuse self-control and restraint for a lack of passion. He's so smart aghhh why is he even bothering with this garbage show again? Oh, because he wanted to work with Gary Busey, who is coming back for the final task no doubt.
Donald Trump says, dramatically, that he plans to fire one person from each team. Ivanka, the other well-spoken person in the room besides Penn, asks everyone how they did this season differently from their last one. Donald interrupts her question with "GOOD QUESTION," like he's on Family Feud.
Lisa has obviously improved from getting fired like, second. She appeases Trump by assuring him that she took heat for getting eliminated early, and his show still matters to people. Penn's answer is quite interesting. He says he's used to working in a group, and not working with different people. The first time he came in treating everyone like they were Teller, but most celebrities are stupid. So, this time, he knew how to work with the likes of Gary Busey. He probably chose to omit that he's changing the way he's behaving in the boardroom, too.
Lil Jon says this time it's personal. He's fighting for his mom, and he's more motivated than ever. Trace says he's not playing any differently. I would disagree. It seems like he's more over it, and has the strategy to just do whatever he wants and roll the dice this time.
Lil Jon is asked first who he would fire on the other team, and he reluctantly responds Lisa, since Penn took over the last task. Trace agrees that it should be a boys' club now. Trump tells Lisa that she made a great decision because "you've been walking around like a loser for two years." Then I only saw red and could not adjust my television set.
Then, Donald tells Lisa that he's her biggest fan to her husband. That is not at all true, but he might be her most abusive fan. But Donald wants to see Penn in the final, so he fires Lisa. It's just the good ol' boys now. Now it's time to confront Trace about having checked out the last three weeks.
Lil Jon is confronted about his ability to bring in money (which is Trace's specialty) and star power. Lil Jon may not know all the Southern royalty that Trace does, but he probably knows more celebrities. Lil Jon says he still has some bullets left in his gun, too, but him saying it has a different effect on the white people in the room.
Ivanka asks Penn what Trace's greatest weakness is, and Penn says that it is probably how Trace occasionally fades. Penn compliments Trace's ideas, but come on, that caveman thing? Anyway, they compare stats (money, losses, etc.) and Trace takes the opportunity to remind Donald that he picked the teams and picked Penn first.
"Lil Jon, how do I get over the fact that he raised more money than anybody? That he had a great record, that he had a fantastic project manager record, he's undefeated," Trump sort of asks Lil Jon. Donald throws a final $20,000 at Lil Jon, then fires him. I think that's a mistake.
Trace and Penn, two giant men, walk through Donald Trump's two giant doors and upstairs for some apple cider. Trace promises to go to the max for his final task, and Penn is now tasked to find a celebrity with gobs of money.
To receive the final task, Penn puts on a white cowboy hat and reminds everyone that the good guy is in the white hat. It's very cute and clever, and Trace likes it, too. The task is introduced in the Trump Building, where one of the tenants is the owner of Walgreens. The final task is to create an ice cream flavor for Walgreens and design the packaging, make a promotional video, and sell VIP tickets to a promotional event. It is all appropriately stupid.
Then, celebrities here to help on the task come up the escalator. As though anybody wants Gary Busey on their team. Penn is fortunate enough to get Lisa, but is saddled with Dennis Rodman and La Toya. Trace gets Lil Jon and Marilu, but is stuck with Gary, who is worth minus one person. Penn is delighted to have Lisa. Trace says Gary is a legend and leaves it at that.
Trace says that Jon is, of course, going to direct the video. Marilu is in charge of the event, and maybe Gary can be in charge of taste testing the ice cream or something. Trace reflects on the nobility of The American Red Cross, and what it means to him. He says losing is not an option.
In the other ice cream lab coat room, Penn tells his team about his charity, Opportunity Village. They help create jobs for people with developmental disabilities, and Penn tears up talking about it. I'm not sure Dennis knows what is going on.
Penn wants to make his ice cream flavor Vegas-y and magic-related. It is of dire importance that they wear lab coats the entire time. Penn wants to do a Vegas-style ice cream social with Penn and Teller, and four showgirls.
These original ice cream flavors are coming out a lot like ice cream flavors that exist. There's chocolate turtles (filled with caramel) in vanilla ice cream, and something in the butter pecan family. La Toya has the brilliant (in terms of celebrity ideas) idea to call the turtle ice cream "Vegas Magic Swirtle" and everyone goes nuts for it. Everyone except Dennis, who doesn't quite know what's happening still.
In Trace's test kitchen, he wants to go as decadent as possible. He asks the ice cream wizard to put fat in it. Trace likes maple nut candies, and red velvet cake. The red velvet will be good, because it's all Southern. The color of the red velvet ice cream is abhorrent. Gary is assigned to be the taste tester.
Joan Rivers comes in to see Trace's team and try the ingredients. Joan tells Trace that Penn has the biggest rolodex ever, so they need star power. Blake Shelton is busy doing Leno and probably another Christmas special. Everyone is dodging the draft this time.
Penn has a good idea in their test kitchen. Poof, the ice cream is gone when you get to the bottom of the container! Lisa Rinna can not stop screeching "CUTE" at Penn. Joan Rivers comes in to riff on Dennis. Penn tells Joan that a small problem has arisen, Wayne Newton has a parade he needs to do. Debbie Harry might come through, too. Joan loves the concept, but knows that celebrities are notoriously flaky and over-booked.
Trace takes Gary to the taste test, because there's nothing else useful for him to do. Marilu tells Gary to look at people's faces as they try the ice cream. Gary takes this to heart. He shouts inside the Walgreens to get people to try the ice cream. It is too much. Trace doesn't care, though, because he knows which one he wants to go with. He wants maple to win. Gary calls a woman who comes in and likes the red velvet flavor better "a red velvet queen." Maple macadamia wins.
La Toya and Dennis get people in to Walgreens to have them try the Vegas ice cream flavors. With much coaxing, everyone likes the "Swirtle" better. Penn is re-thinking the name "Swirtle," because it isn't clear and people don't want to eat a strange word.
Trace's team, equipped with a flavor, tries to come up with a title. Maple Macadamia Medley, Marilu suggests. Then someone suggests Maple Macadamian (yes, macadamian) Mash-Up. A terrible idea. It sounds like it would include mashed potatoes. But they're going with it because it's an angle. Trace says it sounds like potatoes, but Marilu has already fixated.
"Because of social media, the youth element, it's perfect," Trace decides on the term "mash-up." Lil Jon does have a great idea to get people to tweet Gary to do things with the ice cream. He suggests that the ice cream makes Gary do a dance and then it turns into a craze. It's good. So good that Trace wants to put Gary in a Speedo doing it.
For Penn, the Swirtle shows up and there's a note on the packaging explaining what a Swirtle is. Teller and the showgirls pop in. Donald is going to love this.
At Team Cowboy, they're focused on creating a fake viral video within the commercial. It's more about the dance than the ice cream at this point. At least we got to watch Gary to "go stretch" for a while. It's a good way to distract your worst team member.
Lil Jon telling Gary how to do a funny dance is my favorite moment of this episode. Gary enjoys dancing some more, and it's enjoyable for everyone. Lemons become lemonade. Then Gary falls asleep when he's needed on set.
Penn decides to have cue cards since his last season he called Walgreens by the wrong name. Lisa is in charge of holding the homemade cue cards, and they are cumbersome. Lil Jon is taking too long at the other shoot getting the shots set up, but he always gets what he wants. Also, this time Gary is a young girl's grandpa, not father or husband.
Lil Jon struggles to work with Gary on the commercial set. He is inconsistent, but genius. Marilu is very proud of him. THEN, there is an abominable actual commercial done by Penn and Trace for their ice cream flavors. Shameless.
Penn is working on his commercial, and decides to use Dennis to catch a cup under the table. Dennis does not mind staring up at the showgirls, but does get a lot of ice cream on his pants. There are no small parts, only very tall NBA players catching glasses of ice cream.
Trace and Gary go to the editing bay as Lil Jon and Marilu futz with the details of the rest of the shoot. Marilu loves details. Lil Jon loves getting stuff done.
Dennis and La Toya, hilariously, do not know that Teller doesn't speak. How can you not know that? "He kills me the way he whispers all the time," La Toya tells Lisa. La Toya, of all people, is comparing someone to a baby. She learns later that Teller doesn't speak. It's the whole gig, but La Toya tries reading into it. Penn sends Dennis home early so he can dress flamboyantly the day.
Trace and Gary get to editing, but Gary is more distracting than helpful. Trace sends Gary home early for the day. Trace focuses on his fundraising phone calls. Meanwhile, Penn works on editing the commercial, which features far too many bespangled showgirl crotches for Walgreens standards.
On Trace's team, Marilu gets stuck on the details in the editing bay. Trace calls her a broken record and says sometimes you need to bump the needle on Marilu. But Marilu isn't even prepared for the revelation that Trace wants Gary to sing "Fade Away" at the benefit event. Marilu says she just hopes Gary doesn't die.
The commercial is over time for Penn, and 12 seconds is a lot to cut. The only trouble is that you have to do magic in one take, and that take is too long. What will Penn do? To be continued! We didn't even have to suffer through an hour of boardroom.
