Hawkins Homestead. Darcy and Allison are washing clothes in the sink. Hawkins passes through on his way out to town hall, and speechifies that "people are starting to react to the fact that no one is coming to save them. No one. Because the world [they] knew does not exist anymore." Darcy trades worried glances with her daughter, and then asks her to step outside for a minute. Once Allison is gone, Darcy tears into Hawkins for scaring their kids. I'm sure that Allison was totally unaware that anything was amiss until Hawkins let it slip. Darcy grumps that Hawkins was gone for four years, so she's in charge of the kids. Hawkins distracts her by snagging a photo off the bulletin board. It shows Darcy and the kids. He grumbles that pictures like that "might raise questions about us as a family." Sweet Christ. If someone from this town actually visited the Hawkins family and woke up out of their chronic stupor enough to notice a photo of the family that didn't include Hawkins, would they immediately think, "Holy Crap, the only possible explanation is that these people are lying about who they are!"

Town Hall. Someone complains about trespassers on her property. Good Cop nicely suggests that they've got other priorities. A guy crabs about a busted water main. I think there's a certain pool guy who could deal with that. The same guy asks where Dad is, and Eric explains that Dad's still recovering from the flu. He urges everyone to be patient.

Bailey's. Shockingly, the place is mostly empty, except for Jake. And Mary. She asks after Eric, and Jake says that his brother is busy keeping the town running. It's nice that Jake doesn't display any guilt about how little he's doing to help. Mary harrumphs, "I just figured he'd be spending a little more time with his wife." Jake, as bored by this subplot as the rest of creation, says that Eric and April seem happy together. Then this dude named Mitchell strolls in with one of his flunkies. Mary tells him to get lost, but Mitchell insists that he just wants a drink. When Mary hesitates, he offers to get it himself. "You might want to rethink that," Jake says from his barstool. Mitchell gapes upon seeing Jake, and chuckles, "Everyone thought you went up in the blast." He offers Jake a handshake, and Jake just looks away. Mitchell harrumphs, "If anyone should have a grudge, it's me, right? You left me holding the bag when you blew town." Hawkins strolls in just as Jake gets up and grunts, "Don't make me kick your ass again." Mitchell grabs Jake's arm, and Hawkins loudly asks if everything's all right. Shouldn't they give him a badge or something? If they don't have any spares, I'm sure Hawkins can use his old badge from when he was a cop in St. Louis. I realize it's made of cardboard and glitter, but these people won't notice. Mitchell teases Jake about having his own bodyguard, and finally smirks his way out the door.
