Day Five: 9:00 PM -- 10:00 PM

Okay, so the nerve gas killed everyone at CTU who wasn't in the Situation Room, the upper offices, Medical, Holding Room Four, and now downstairs?

At CTU, Kiefer pulls Chloe aside to find out what she's learned about Audrey in the last six minutes. She's even more awkward and uncomfortable than usual as she reluctantly reveals that Audrey and Walt Cummings -- wait for it -- shared a hotel room in glamorous Pikesville, Maryland last April. Audrey and Walt? I assume they never talked much about Walt's role in Kiefer's disappearance. Kiefer gets right into Chloe's face and menaces, "How could you possibly know that?" Chloe says she emailed photos of both Audrey and Walt to the hotel manager, who recognized them both and provided her with copies of phone bills and room service receipts. Really fast, too. "I can show you if you want," she quavers. Kiefer apologizes and backs off, saying he believes her. As he turns away to get in a good long face-palm, Chloe observes that the connection isn't necessarily damning, "but it doesn't exactly look that good either." See, that's why she has the word "analyst" in her job title. Kiefer asks her to stick copies of everything in the folder and she scampers off, grateful to be leaving the room with all of her fingers. From the private alcove he just commandeered, Kiefer looks back out at the monitor tuned to AudreyVision. She looks very nervous indeed. Watching her, Kiefer's face gets hard. Which is probably the opposite of what usually happens. It's 9:09:56.

Commercials. Now, if Michael Douglas's part in The Sentinel were being played by Peter Weller, I'd...well, I'm kind of already recapping that, aren't I?

9:14:03. On the CTU floor, a red-haired ingnue -- played by Ennis's daughter in Brokeback Mountain, and I hope that's not a spoiler for anyone, that Ennis ends up with a daughter -- nervously presents herself before Chloe, who gets in one needlessly bitchy crack before the poor girl manages to explain that she's been called up from downstairs to take Edgar's place. Okay, so the nerve gas killed everyone at CTU who wasn't in the Situation Room, the upper offices, Medical, Holding Room Four, and now downstairs? Shari expresses her sympathies over Edgar's loss, and Chloe manages to impersonate a human being long enough to turn away from her monitor and say, "Thanks." She directs the new girl, Shari, to Edgar's old desk, which I guess Slime is done with, and gives her some instructions in technobabble. Shari seems to understand Chloe's bizarre moon lingo, though, and turns back towards Edgar's desk. But the sight of Slime lurking nearby draws her up short. He spots her as well, and freezes. The moment's broken when his cell phone rings and he goes off to answer it. I'd speculate that there's some history between those two, but then, it's Slime. Mutual hatred on sight is probably a perfectly normal reaction.
