I really enjoy this promo for Touch, because I don't have to cover that show any more.
Coming back, Ryan reminds us that Hollie is in one group and Jessica is in the other, and pretends that's not a total giveaway as to which group will end up being the bottom three. Then we move on to Elise and Phillip. Jimmy calls them singer-songwriters who are more "character singers" than technical singers. And since Phillip's character is Dave Matthews, Jimmy thinks he'll be in the bottom three. He thinks Elise was "good" and "correct," but not enough to get out of the bottom three. Back live, Phillip says he doesn't mind the criticism, and Elise says she did her best. What does she care, she'll be hanging with Jason Segel soon. When the lights go down, Ryan sends Phil over to stand with Hollie, and Elise to join Jessica. "But the drama is far from over," Ryan warns. It seems far from beginning to me.
Ryan introduces the only ex-finalist to have won both a Grammy and an Oscar. That would be Jennifer Hudson, of course, who looks familiar from the Weight Watchers commercials they've been showing tonight. She unconvincingly lip-syncs some Beyonce-lite number with Beyonce-lite backup dancers. At some point Ne-Yo wanders out and joins in, wearing a white shirt with a black rectangle on it that makes his torso look like an upended computer monitor. Afterwards, Ryan greets J. Hud like an old friend and asks her about collaborating with Ne-Yo. She says it was great, of course, and the fact that her mic isn't on doesn't exactly help convince me that she wasn't lip-syncing. Not that it matters.
The pair called front and center to find out which indeterminate group they'll be added to is Joshua and Colton. Jimmy thinks they both did well, and even says Bruno Mars could have written the song for Joshua. He also says Colton was totally convincing with his song. Back onstage, Ryan starts by asking Colton what he thinks it'll take to get his first standing ovation from the judges. If he knew that, he'd have done it by now. As for the judges, they act all surprised that it's never happened. Eventually the lights go down, and Joshua is sent across to join Jessica and Elise, and Colton heads over to be with Hollie and Elise.
After that, Ryan takes his sweet time sauntering over to Skylar, who's all alone on the bleacher-couches. At least until Ryan sits down to her. She probably would have preferred being alone. Ryan puts her on the spot, asking her and the audience what they think is going on. Of course the question is about as sincere as the ones James Lipton asks. Before we move on, the Skylar-clips include Jimmy saying he's afraid Skylar could get left behind despite being a pro, a singer-songwriter, and a technical singer. And then he wraps up his predictions by saying the bottom three will probably be Phillip, Elise, and Hollie. Back onstage, Ryan obviouses that Phillip and Hollie are in one group and Elise is in the other, so clearly Jimmy's wrong, unless Ryan decides to shuffle the groups for no reason.
