Sheila, Bruno, and Bob are arriving back at Vinick HQ. Sheila is on the phone, telling someone to make sure Vinick has little packets of Kleenex in every pocket, and plenty of cough drops. Bruno is worried that Vinick will lose his voice. Sheila suggests giving the Senator a day off, and in response to Bob's shock at the idea, points out that Vinick is running a fever of 101 degrees. They've arrived at Sheila's office, and Bruno points out that if Vinick takes a day off, it will reconfirm the idea that he's a frail old man. Someone named Annie comes looking for Vinick. It turns out he's still out front talking to reporters. I'm kind of surprised that they left him alone with reporters, in light of his known penchant for saying more than he should. Sheila makes the executive decision that Vinick's wakeup call will be moved from 6:00 to 7:00. She looks over the phone messages she's been handed, and resignedly tells Bruno, "Hodder from the RNC would like a few minutes with the Senator, without staff." Bruno points out, "The only time they request meetings without staff is when the meeting's about the staff." Bruno jokingly asks if he should start packing his things, and walks away. Sheila tells Annie to schedule a meeting with Hodder at 4:00.
The West Wing. Will runs into Donna in the corridor, welcomes her back, and congratulates her on the surge in the polls. She tells him, "Thanks. We're all walking ten feet off the ground." Which still makes Annabeth shorter than C.J. He asks her if she's going to stop by her old desk, and she begs off, telling him, "Not a lot of nostalgia there, really." He tells her that he's got the talking points on Kazakhstan, but he doesn't want to start until Vinick's press guy arrives. She's a bit distracted as Will offers her a soda (which she declines). She follows him into his office, and asks, "Can I ask you a question?" Uh oh. She tells him it's a "wacky" question. He tells her to go for it. Donna: "If something had happened, with us, when we were working, romantically, would that have been inappropriate?" I don't know if it would have been inappropriate, but it would have caused much wailing and gnashing of teach among a certain segment of the show's fans. Will, with no shortage of-self confidence, tells her, "Uh, I'm flattered, but I'm actually seeing someone in a very non-public and poorly defined way." Almost before he begins speaking, Donna tells him, "Oh, no, no, no. No, not you; I was talking about someone like you, with your job, in relation to me." Will: "You're talking about Josh?" Donna: "You're seeing someone?" He again asks if she's talking about Josh, and she denies it. He asks who it is, and she tells him, "I'll tell you mine if you tell me yours." Her bold maneuver fails, as Will responds, "Yours is Josh. You're not cryptic." And Will's not blind. Or deaf. Or lacking a sense of smell. Donna tries to regain some ground by asking again who Will is seeing, and he tells her it's "classified." She apologizes for bringing the whole thing up and tells him they should drop the subject. He agrees, and then after a pause, tells her, "It's not inappropriate, seeing someone. It's weird, maybe, but you figure it out." They both start looking over the talking points.
