Brother Palmer finds out from Lady Milliken that Lady Mac stopped her from giving Milliken medicine that would have saved his life. Amador is in L.A. with the V-I-R-U-S. He hooks up with a man named Michael Alvers. All Richards does is inflict pain. Kiefer kills Nina when she tries to escape from CTU custody. The following takes place between 3:00 AM and 4:00 AM.
CTU. Okay, remember how at the end of last week's episode, there were alarms going off, dead bodies everywhere and general mayhem because Nina escaped? Well, all of a sudden everything is just super calm and quiet. CTU employees are milling about, but like an audience filing slowly out of a movie theater. Bitchelle, who has apparently been sitting at her desk during all of this pandemonium, gets up and walks over to Soul Patch. "What happened?" she asks. "Nina Meyers is dead," says Soul Patch nonchalantly. "How?" asks Bitchelle. "Kiefer shot her," says Soul Patch, adding that Chappelle is on his way to talk to Kiefer about it right now. "Was it justified?" asks Bitchelle. Was it justified? If I worked in that office, I'd be all, "Where's her body? Who has to take it to the dump? Quick! Before she starts to smell!" "Kiefer wouldn't risk this operation just to get vengeance," answers Soul Patch. Bitchelle is skeptical "Are you sure about that?" she asks. Soul Patch doesn't answer. Wow! This is going to hang over Kiefer's head for a long long time.
Back in that room where Nina shot Bride (and which is hereby known as the room where Kiefer shot Nina), Chappelle enters just as Kiefer is handing over his gun to someone from Ballistics (as in, "don't go ballistic and shoot Nina, Kiefer! She's an important witness!"). Spawn is at his side. Chappelle tells the assembled agents to secure the area until forensics gets there, orders the surveillance footage pulled from the security camera, and asks Kiefer to "have a word" with him. Kiefer is all, "Give me a minute," and Chappelle is all, "No, Kiefer. Now!" Aw! It's so adorable the way Chappelle thinks that he runs CTU. And it's so cute the way the other agents go along with it and pretend to follow his orders and stuff. I bet he's got a tin badge and everything! Anyway, Kiefer and Chappelle walk down some corridor so they can talk alone. Chappelle asks him what happened, and Kiefer says that Nina tried to escape, so he shot her in self-defense. "Nina was our best chance at locating this V-I-R-U-S," says Chappelle. "She was a material witness in an ongoing investigation." Kiefer puts his face homoerotically close to Chappelle's. "I know exactly what she was," says Kiefer. "Division's going to want me to certify this shooting," says Chappelle, starting to lose his composure in the face of Kiefer's velvety whisper. "Then do it," says Kiefer. Chappelle glances down at Kiefer's package and tells him to come and watch the security playback. Kiefer says he'll be right there.
As Kiefer meditates on the latest events, Special Agent Charlie Brown enters. "Are you all right?" he says to Spawn, with the most wooden delivery I've heard since Li'l Lisa was still a member of the cast. "I got here as soon as I heard." I mean, it's like, instead of having a near fatal encounter with Nina, Spawn just took an eye exam for her driver's license. Kiefer walks by them and tells Spawn that he's got to go talk to Chappelle. "I can take care of her," says Special Agent Charlie Brown, and then he and Kiefer have a little mini-turf-war staring contest before Kiefer finally exits to get his slap on the wrist from Chappelle. Um, I mean, "before Kiefer exits to get his severe punishment from Chappelle." Spawn and Charlie walk over to Nina's body -- or rather, the body of some extra whose face isn't visible because they didn't want to pay Sarah Clarke for appearing in this episode. "She tried to kill me," says Spawn, totally dazed. "It's over now," says a very wooden Charlie. "I don't know what happened," says Spawn, going over the event in her mind. "He told me to leave the room and I heard shots." "You'resafethat'sallthatmatters," says Charlie. "Ever since Nina killed my mother, I've wanted her dead," says Spawn. "And now that she is, it's not going to bring my mother back and I didn't think I was going to feel this way." "Howdoyoufeel?" asks Charlie. "I'm not sure," says Spawn. As Spawn and Charlie walk away from the crime scene, the cameras focus briefly on a sign on the wall that says, "Danger High Voltage."
FluBar. Alvers is fiddling around with test tubes while Faggy Amador is typing something into his laptop. A monitor hooked up to a surveillance camera shows them that someone has entered the club -- another dark and handsome man. "He's here," says Amador. Oh, great. Another villain I have to keep track of. Amador lets him in. "We were getting worried," says Amador. "We have a job to do." "We've got plenty of time," says the new villain. Amador asks him why he chose such a "limited target." "Why not the airport or a sports arena?" asks Amador. NuVillain assures Amador that mass casualties are not their main objective -- not yet, anyway. "Then why are you doing this?" asks Amador. "To send a message," says NuVillain, studying the test tubes.
Back at CTU, Soul Patch calls another meeting, at which he informs everyone about Kiefer's shooting of Nina. "The order from Division specified that we use non-lethal force!" says Potato Face. Yeah, and on my new pillow, there is this tag that tells me that I can go to jail if I pull it off. Soul Patch tells Potato Face that it's a done deal, since Nina is dead. "So how are we going to find the V-I-R-U-S?" asks Potato Face. "Alvers has it and Nina was our only connection to Alvers." Soul Patch believes they can trace Alvers through Amador. "But we've pretty much exhausted all of our leads," whines Adam the Whiny Woman Hater. "Then run 'em again!" orders Soul Patch. Bitchelle shares with the group some Russian intel; apparently there are some bio-warfare detonating devices missing from an armory in the Ukraine. These devices are used to disburse pathogens into the atmosphere. While talking about these devices, she shows a diagram of how these devices work. They seem like a pretty complicated substitute for a fan! Soul Patch believes that Amador and Alvers are arming these devices with vials full of the V-I-R-U-S. "This means we all have to work fast," says Soul Patch.
Back at FluBar, NuVillain is demonstrating to Alvers how to use the very devices that they were discussing at CTU. Apparently, you press a bunch of buttons and the V-I-R-U-S gets blown around. Guys? They're called fans. You can buy them at Walgreen's for $14.99. Better yet? Just infect someone and have them walk around and lick people. While Alvers practices setting off the device, NuVillain turns his attention toward Amador who is clicking away on his laptop. "Tell me how it went down in Mexico," says NuVillain. Amador stops typing. "You didn't think I'd find out," says NuVillain. "I didn't think you needed to know," says Amador. "You were stupid enough to believe that Kiefer had turned against CTU and now you've got every intelligence agency in the country after you," says NuVillain. Amador protests that Kiefer's story checked out, but NuVillain maintains that what Amador did in Mexico was stupid and greedy. "And it may have cost me my advantage," says NuVillain. "I still expect to be paid," says Amador. NuVillain gives him a Whatever Technology authorization number. Amador types it into his laptop. A figure of ten million dollars flashes on the screen. "This is only half," says Amador. NuVillain says he'll get the other half once NuVillain receives confirmation about "the hotel." "The deal was, we get paid in full," says Amador. "The deal changed when you went down to Mexico," says NuVillain. "After you hit the hotel, you get the rest of the money." Amador is really pissed, but he knows he can't say anything.
Meanwhile, at CTU, the financial transaction between Amador and NuVillain is picked up by Potato Face. She shows Adam the Woman Hater what she found, and he in turn tells Spawn to run a "back check" on the account.
Elsewhere at CTU, Chappelle is reviewing the security footage of Kiefer shooting Nina. It doesn't look good. Clearly Nina is already down when Kiefer shoots her a few more times. Chappelle demands an explanation. Kiefer insists that Nina was going for her gun. "You knew where the security camera was," says Chappelle. "You stood in front of it to obscure any visual record of the shooting." Kiefer insists again that Nina was going for her gun. "I wish I could believe that, but I don't," says Chappelle, who goes on to lecture Kiefer about due process and justice in the U.S.A. Kiefer whips out the emergency velvet. "Don't you tell me about the law!" says Kiefer. "Nina Meyers killed my wife and they let her go. And she would have killed my daughter if I hadn't gotten there when I did!" As Chappelle is whining some more about having to answer to his bosses about Kiefer's heroin use and the shooting of a key witness, Special Agent Charlie Brown enters with news of Potato Face's find. "We'll have a point of origin any minute now," says Charlie. "Get the field teams ready," says Kiefer, reaching for his jacket and heading out the door. "This isn't resolved yet," says Chappelle about the shooting of Nina. Oh, Chappelle, you're such a card! "I've been working with Kiefer all day and with all that's happened, he's operating at a higher level than anyone else in the field including me," says Special Agent Charlie Brown. Of course he's operating at a higher level. He's high! "I didn't ask your opinion," says Chappelle. "Well, I'm giving it to you anyway," says Charlie Brown. Whoa! What a punk-ass bitch! I mean, I know it's Chappelle and all, Charlie, but still. You should be thanking your lucky stars that not another word was mentioned about your disobeying Chappelle's direct orders and not returning to CTU a few hours ago. Chappelle maintains that he'll be "crucified" if he lets Kiefer back out into the field. Kiefer gives Chappelle his word that he can do his job. Oh, look out! It's the Word of Kiefer. It trumps everything: Rock, paper, scissors. Everything. Chappelle lets him go because…he's Chappelle. What else is he going to do? The time is 03:11:35 AM.
Elisha Cuthbert looks hot in this preview for The Girl Door. I'd forgotten how fine she looks when she loses that suit and wears her hair longer. Almost makes you want to see her run from a cougar in the woods again.
The time is 03:15:53 AM. In Palmerville, Brother Palmer is on his cell phone with Mrs. Ocean. "I thought I told you not to contact me," he says. "I'm scared," she says. "They've already started to question Beatrice and I'm ." Your maid's name is Beatrice? "Where's your lawyer," says Brother Palmer. "He's not here yet," says Mrs. Ocean. Um what? That's bullshit. People like William Ocean III have live-in lawyers. Brother Palmer tells her to remember that she's innocent. "I'm not innocent," says Mrs. Ocean. "I let Lady Mac convince me not to give William Ocean his medication. I could have saved his life." "You don't know that," says Brother Palmer. Mrs. Ocean breathes heavily some more and asks Brother Palmer if Lady Mac has said anything. Brother Palmer maintains that Lady Mac told Palmer that it was an accident, and that Palmer believes her. Just as he's saying that, Palmer enters the room. Brother Palmer pretends to be speaking to a congressman, and gets off the phone. "Have you spoken to Mrs. Ocean yet?" asks Palmer. Brother Palmer says no. "Maybe you should call her and get her side of the story," says Palmer. Brother Palmer says that maybe they should stay as far away from the Ocean imbroglio as humanly possible. "Which means you don't believe Lady Mac," says Palmer. Wait. Why is Palmer getting all oversensitive about Lady Mac's reputation? I mean, the only reason he called her in the first place was precisely because she's a reckless, lying bitch. Brother Palmer says he doesn't know what to believe. "You call in Lady Mac and a few hours later, Milliken winds up dead," says Brother Palmer. Palmer has nothing to say.
Out in the CTU parking lot, Kiefer and Charlie Brown are loading up the Kiefmobile in preparation for their journey over to the FluBar. Spawn comes out of the building to brief her father on some men from Division who will be providing backup. "Are you okay?" asks Kiefer. Spawn says she's fine, but she wants to know more about Chappelle's questioning. "I said I wasn't sorry that Nina was dead. I wasn't sorry that I shot her," says Kiefer. "I told him that she posed an immediate threat to you, to me and to thousands of innocent people." For some reason Kiefer doesn't also mention the dozen or so men she killed during her escape -- the bodies of whom have magically disappeared within the last twenty minutes. "You had to do it, didn't you?" says Spawn pointedly. After much hesitation, Kiefer is all, "Yeah." They hug, and then Kiefer has to go. He gets into the Kiefmobile with Charlie Brown and they're off. Spawn doesn't say goodbye to Charlie Brown, nor he to her.
Back in Palmerville, Brother Palmer bursts into Lady Mac's dark office, where Lady Mac is taking a nap, and turns on the lights. "I know about William Ocean III," says Brother Palmer. "Yes, it's awful," says Lady Mac evasively. Brother Palmer tells her that he knows about how she prevented Mrs. Ocean from giving William Ocean his medication. "You stood there and you watched a man die," says Brother Palmer. "You would have done the same thing if you had been there," says Lady Mac, pouring herself a glass of water. "I wouldn't have been there in there in the first place!" shouts Brother Palmer. "David asked me to come here to clean up your mess," says Lady Mac, doing the finger-point. "What did you expect me to do?" Brother Palmer says that they wanted William Ocean III off their backs, but not like this. "Complex problems sometimes have the simplest solutions," says Lady Mac. "What's done is done." Brother Palmer wants to tell Palmer, but Lady Mac insists that Palmer should be kept in the dark for his own good. "If he doesn't know anything, he's got nothing to deny," says Lady Mac. She asks him what he told Mrs. Ocean to do. Brother Palmer says that he told her not to talk to anyone before conferring with a lawyer. "As long she keeps her mouth shut," says Lady Mac, "we'll be fine."
Back at the Ocean Manse, Mrs. Ocean is drinking something from a glass. It could be apple juice. It could be scotch. I don't know. A detective enters and expresses sympathy at her "loss." "I know this is a difficult time for you but I'd like to ask you some questions," says the detective. "Unless that's a problem." Mrs. Ocean says that her lawyer told her not to talk to anyone until he was present. "Did he say why?" asks the detective. "You know lawyers," says Mrs. Ocean. They both chuckle. The detective insists that the questions he has for her don't require counsel. He confirms that she was asleep when the body was discovered and didn't hear anything. Mrs. Ocean explains that since William Ocean III's stroke, they've had separate bedrooms. The detective's ears perk up at this, and he mentions that the maid saw a light-colored Mercedes leaving the driveway. Mrs. Ocean insists that she didn't hear anything, so she wouldn't know. "Do you have any friends that drive a light-colored Mercedes?" asks the detective. "Half the people we know drive a Mercedes," says Mrs. Ocean. "And we know a lot of people." The detective asks her if she's aware that the security cameras in the surveillance system were shut down an hour before Ocean's death. Mrs. Ocean insists she knows nothing about that, and reminds the detective that her husband was a very sick man who could have died at any moment. "It's beginning to look like he might have had some help," says the detective.
Back at CTU, Adam the Woman Hater is tracking Amador's location through his bank account. Spawn tells Charlie Brown the coordinates over the phone as he and Kiefer drive toward the unknown location. "I'm not going to have an address for another few minutes so why don't I call you when I get it," says Spawn, hanging up. In the car, Kiefer tells Charlie Brown, "I appreciate what you said to Chappelle earlier." "I wouldn't have said it if I didn't mean it," says Charlie Brown. "Finding the V-I-R-U-S is all that matters right now. Everything else can wait." "Are you going to wait to tell Spawn about your daughter?" asks Kiefer. Charlie Brown tells Kiefer that they already talked about it and she's handling it fine. "It's between Spawn and me," says Charlie. "If you don't mind, I'd like to keep it that way. She's a grown woman and we care about each other."
A yellow cab pulls up in front of the Chandler Plaza Hotel. Alvers gets out of it with a briefcase in his hand. He enters the lobby -- which is full of Nelson Bubble lamps from DWR and Le Corbusier sofas. Jeez, when was the last time I had to link to DWR? He calls Amador on his cell phone and confirms that he's there. "How long will it take?" asks Amador. "About twenty-five minutes," says Alvers. Amador tells him to hurry. Alvers insists on doing things right so he's not infected himself. He slips out of sight down a corridor. The time is 03:25:55 AM.
The time is 03:30:11 AM. Lady Mac's phone rings in her office. She picks up. It's the detective who just questioned Mrs. Ocean. "Where did you get this number?" asks Lady Mac. "It was given to me by a woman named Julia Milliken," says the detective. He asks her if she was with Mrs. Ocean tonight. Lady Mac replies that she wasn't. The detective says that Mrs. Ocean claims otherwise. "Well, she's lying," says Lady Mac, explaining that she's been in the District offices with President Palmer all night. The detective says Mrs. Ocean claims that both she and Lady Mac caused William Ocean's death by withholding his medication from him. "Well, that's preposterous," says Lady Mac. "I haven't seen William Ocean or his wife in over three years!" The detective asks if Pressident Palmer could confirm her whereabouts that evening. "He sure could," says Lady Mac. "Thank you," says the detective. "We'll be in touch."
Elsewhere in Palmerville, Brother Palmer enters Palmer's office, where Palmer is taking a quick nap. I really must commend the TPTB here for having the characters act like it's 3:30 AM, when most people are asleep. Brother Palmer hands Palmer the latest report from CTU about their progress in finding the V-I-R-U-S. "Anything else?" asks Palmer. Brother Palmer says no. "I'm your brother," says Palmer. "I think I know when there's something on your mind." Brother Palmer says that he's more of a thorn in Palmer's side than an asset to his administration. "There are a lot of smart people out there that you could have hired," says Brother Palmer. "But none that I could have trusted as much as you," says Palmer. Uh oh. You know that when Palmer "trusts" someone, that person is totally going to fuck him over. Brother Palmer's phone rings. It's Soul Patch with the latest update from CTU. Brother Palmer springs into action with renewed vigor.
Meanwhile, Kiefer and Chase arrive at the FluBar, where Potato Face has tracked Amador's account transaction. The SWAT team at the site has already sent an Asian undercover officer with long hair into the FluBar to check it out. He sees nothing, but spots an armed guard outside the door to the southernmost room. He reports this back to his team on his secret transistor. "Don't move," says a voice behind him. Another guard has blown AsianAgent's cover, and takes him hostage. The guard takes his transistor away and brings him into Amador's office. "He was looking at your room," says the guard to Amador. When CTU loses AsianAgent's signal, they storm the FluBar. But before they find Amador, Amador has shot AsianAgent. "Let's get out of here," he says. The agents rush in. Kiefer finds Amador and pins him to the ground. "The target has been neutralized," says Charlie Brown over his walkie-talkie. "Where's the V-I-R-U-S?" asks Kiefer. "You're too late," says Amador. "Let's get him into one of the other rooms," says Kiefer to Charlie Brown. "We've got some work to do." The time is 03:36:09 AM.
The time is 03:40:23 AM. Back at a private room at the FluBar, Kiefer begins to interrogate Amador, who is angry that Kiefer betrayed him in Mexico. "That's right, Amador," says Kiefer. "You betrayed me too. I'm just better at it than you." "You have no idea what you're up against," says Amador. Kiefer presses him for details. "He knows who you are," says Amador, refusing to explain who "he" is. "'Don't presume to tell me about Kiefer,' that's what he said," says Amador. "If you go up against him, you're a dead man." Kiefer asks him where the V-I-R-U-S is. Amador says he doesn't know because he "passed it off." "You can do whatever you want to me," says Amador. "I'm not going to tell you anything." Kiefer asks him who or what he's afraid of. "We can protect you," says Kiefer. "Can you?" asks Amador contemptuously. "You couldn't even protect your own family." Why do people always say stupid shit like that when they're tied up and looking down the barrel of a gun? Kiefer grabs Amador and slices one of Amador's fingers with a knife. Amador passes out, and Kiefer tells Charlie Brown to do it again when he wakes up.
CTU calls Kiefer on his cell phone just then, and Kiefer tells Soul Patch and Chappelle that he's got Amador, but the V-I-R-U-S has been "passed on." Kiefer doesn't know who they passed the V-I-R-U-S on to, but he does know that whoever has the V-I-R-U-S knows Kiefer very well, so he has Soul Patch cross-reference everyone he has ever worked with against what they already know about the virus. Meanwhile, forensics calls Kiefer over to show him an incubator they found. It contains no contamination, but there are some prints and hairs that they will send to the lab for analysis. Other agents have also found Amador's laptop, which contains a detailed floor plan of the Chandler Hotel. "I think we've got a high probability target," says Kiefer over the phone to Soul Patch, telling him about the Chandler Hotel. Soul Patch tells Adam to get him the head of Chandler Hotel Security on the phone immediately. "Should we evacuate?" asks Soul Patch. Kiefer says no, because if the V-I-R-U-S has been released already, an evacuation could accelerate an outbreak. "We need to contain the building," says Kiefer. "But we need to do it without starting an outbreak." Soul Patch sends a team of agents to the hotel, and has National Health Services send a team as well. "No one and I mean no one goes in or out of that building," says Kiefer with velvet urgency. "Do you understand?" Soul Patch understands.
Okay, remember gay Matt from Melrose Place? That totally useless character who did nothing but listen to everyone's heterosexual love life problems and suffer the occasional gay-themed injustice? ["And hugged a lot of guys. Don't forget the hugs." -- Sars] Well, since Melrose went off the air, Gay Matt has gotten a job as the head of security for the Chandler Hotel. And judging by the fact that he's on the job at 3:44 in the morning, he's the graveyard shift head of security. I mean, his character's name is Craig Phillips, but he still looks and acts like Gay Matt -- but older, puffier, and looking like he just got over a crystal meth problem. Anyway, Soul Patch gets him on the phone and tells him not to let anyone in or out of the building. "What's the nature of the threat?" asks Gay Matt. "The release of an infectious substance inside the hotel," says Soul Patch. Gay Matt does his best to keep his cool while Soul Patch faxes over a description of Alvers. Gay Matt tells Soul Patch that he's going to search the hotel for Alvers while Soul Patch sends a team of agents down.
"What the hell is this?" asks Soul Patch as Bitchelle enters the floor in black leather, flanked by a team of agents. Bitchelle explains that Chappelle assigned her to the team that's going to the hotel. Soul Patch complains to Chappelle, but Chappelle states that, as head of CTU, Soul Patch has an obligation to stay there at the center of information. "Bitchelle has more hours of disaster control simulation than anyone on staff," continues Chappelle. "Not to mention her practical experience on the D.C. anthrax outbreak." Bitchelle will lead the team, and Gael will be second in command. Once Chappelle is out of earshot, Soul Patch pulls Bitchelle aside. "I don't care what Chappelle says," says Soul Patch. Like, who does? He offers to send another agent in her place. "No, he's right," says Bitchelle. "I should be the one to go." She leaves. Neither of them kisses the other goodbye. The time is 03:46:39 AM.
The time is 03:50:59 AM. Bitchelle calls Soul Patch from the Bitchellemobile and tells him that they're two minutes away from the hotel. "Where's NHS?" she asks. "They're getting ready," says Soul Patch. "They should be there in a while." Bitchelle asks how long "a while" is. Soul Patch estimates that they'll be there in twenty minutes. "We don't have that kind of time," says Bitchelle. "I understand, but you wait until they get there," says Soul Patch. "I don't want anyone going into that hotel without bio-suits." "We can't wait too long," says Bitchelle. "What if we have to go in to stop the V-I-R-U-S?" "You wait!" says Soul Patch. "That's an order." "Fine," says Bitchelle. "Anything else?" There's a pause, and you'd think now would be a good time for Soul Patch to say something like "I love you, Bitchelle," or something similarly sloppy, but he doesn't. They hang up. "What's wrong?" asks Gael, who has come back from his coffee run to depose the now MIA Michael Bolton as CTU's Nosy Parker. "Stuff between Soul Patch and me," says Bitchelle. "Things haven't been right since he got back from the hospital." Gael tells Bitchelle that during the last two months, when he and Soul Patch were working closely together, planning the operation, it was eating away at Soul Patch that he couldn't talk to her about their secret plot. Forget Gay Matt. Gael is now the resident Agony Aunt of CTU. "I just want this day to end," says Bitchelle, exasperated.
Meanwhile, back at the Chandler Hotel, Gay Matt is making sure all the entrances are locked, when he sees Alvers dressed as a maintenance man. He's about to follow him when an assistant of his announces that he's got a phone call. Gay Matt is suspicious because he doesn't recognize Alvers, and has his assistant check the man out while he takes the call. The call turns out to be from Bitchelle outside the hotel. Gay Matt reports that they haven't found Alvers yet. Bitchelle tells him to check the guest rooms. "That's going to take some time unless you can lend us some manpower," says Gay Matt. At this point Bitchelle and Gay Matt are facing each other through the glass front of the hotel while they converse on their cell phones. "We'll be coming in as soon as the hazmat suits arrive," says Bitchelle, not making eye contact with him. "My people don't have any hazmat suits," says Gay Matt. "I know that," says Bitchelle. "We'll bring some when we come in." "Yeah," says Gay Matt, understanding, all of a sudden, that he might be infected with the V-I-R-U-S. Gael comes up to Bitchelle with news that Alvers was spotted on the hotel's security camera -- which I guess he's hacking into from the Bitchellemobile. Based on the time of the photograph, they conclude that he's been in there for the last half hour. Bitchelle tells the other agents on the team that she can't order anyone in because it goes against protocol, but she is going in to try to stop the V-I-R-U-S. Gael follows her. Everyone else goes with him. Gay Matt unlocks the front door to allow Bitchelle and her team to enter the building. "I thought you were going to wait for those hazmat suits," he says. He says that they may have spotted Alvers. Bitchelle asks for directions so she can check it out herself.
Meanwhile, Alvers has entered the ventilation room. He opens up his tool kit, takes out the Ukrainian detonator, and inserts a vial containing white powder inside of it. What happened to the crazy green vial? He sets the detonator in place behind a giant fan.
Elsewhere, Bitchelle searches the basement with her gun drawn, clearing all her blind spots, Jodie Foster-style. She finds the dead body of Gay Matt's assistant in a pump room. She searches the basement some more and comes upon Alvers, still dressed as a maintenance man, and holds him at gunpoint. He tries to convince her that he's really a maintenance man and then makes a run for it. Bitchelle takes him down, kicks him in the kidneys, and handcuffs him to a pipe. "Where is the V-I-R-U-S?" she asks. He says nothing. "If this V-I-R-U-S gets out, you die!" she says. Finally Alvers admits that he planted the V-I-R-U-S in the central ventilation unit. Bitchelle radios this information to Gael, who heads for the area.
Gael finds the detonator where Alvers planted it, underneath the whirling blades of that fan. For some reason, he can't get behind the fan like Alvers did. He radios Bitchelle and tells her that the V-I-R-U-S is in a vial that's hooked up to some kind of timed detonator. Bitchelle promises to send down a hazmat suit. "There may not be enough time for that," says Gael. "I've got to get to it and try to disarm it." He opens up the fan unit, puts aside the metal grating, and reaches under the whirling blades. His fingers are mere centimeters from the unit when a buzzer goes off and shoots powder all over his face. The time is 03:59:58…03:59:59...04:00:00 AM.
