Episode Report Card Niki: A | Grade It Now! YOU GRADE IT Jake And The Women
By Niki | Season 3 | Episode 6 | Aired on 11.08.2001
Fade back to the shower, a little later. Zoe's collected herself and is now instructing the women on how to perform the Earth Mother Guardian ritual. The ladies stand in a circle, and Zoe explains that they all have to tie yarn around their wrists, passing the ball of it around the circle until they're all tied together. We follow the ball of string around the circle until it comes to the end. Zoe looks up and tells Jake to join the circle; he has to be part of it for it to work. "Yeah, if I have to do this, you do, too," Grace chimes. Jake gives in and steps between Grace and Zoe. He smiles around the circle as his wrist gets tied. Once the circle is complete, Zoe explains that they separate from one another by burning the string with a candle. They have to leave the string tied around their wrists until after the baby is born, to protect it. "After the umbilical cord is cut, right?" Lily asks. "That's beautiful," Tiffany grins. She smiles at Jake, who looks at her with something approaching appreciation. He glances around at the rest of his women while Louis Armstrong sings, "I've got the world on a string/ Sitting on a rainbow/ Got that string around my finger/ What a world! What a life! I'm in love!"
Soliloquy Jake pulls Zoe onto his lap, and puts his arm around Grace.
The candle makes its way around the circle.
Soliloquy Judy joins Jake and the girls, smiling warmly at Jake.
The candle keeps going around the circle.
Soliloquy Lily puts her hand on Jake's arm, smiling supportively. Soliloquy Tiffany wanders in, kisses Jake's cheek, and takes her position behind him. Jake smiles contentedly, surrounded by his women.
The candle burns through the last string in the circle.
Soliloquy Jake holds a baby in his arms, looking at it adoringly. He looks up at the camera, his face peaceful, as Louis takes us home.
