Episode Report Card Jeff Long: B- | Grade It Now! YOU GRADE IT Baby Sample Sale

By Jeff Long | Season 10 | Episode 11 | Aired on 09.27.2012

Gosh, these babies are cute. They range in age from 12-18 months. The babies are all matched via the button bag. Seriously, all of the babies are super adorable. Dmitry's client is sleeping, which Heidi thinks is perfect. Christopher says that he got the client that he wanted and he wanted her because she was wearing cute cheetah print shoes. What a relief. Imagine the situation if he'd just gotten some boring baby with no style. There will be two winners in the challenge -- a boy outfit and a girl outfit -- and they will be manufactured for Babies R' Us. That's awesome!

Elena says that she would like to win a manufacturing challenge, particularly if it meant taking it away from Christopher, who has won all of the other. Whatever it takes to motivate yourself, I guess. Heidi explains that fabrics and notions from her line will be provided so that whatever is designed will be cohesive with the collection. No one wants a dissonant baby clothes line. Tim says that they will have 30 minutes to consult with their clients and to sketch. They will have a day to work on the look and he tells them to be creative and listen to the moms. Why? It seems to me that success in this challenge would hinge on the look's ability to fit in with the other looks in the collection. Methinks they're just fishing for some designer/client drama.

Christopher tells his client's mother that her baby is too cute. "Thank you," she says. Christopher is wearing one of those voluminous scarves that he's so fond of. I feel like it gives him the silhouette of a Linda Dano-type and I'm not sure that's what he's shooting for. I'm also really not sure that he's not shooting for that, which warms my heart. Elena talks to Tamayo about her baby girl, Lumi. She says that she likes to dress Lumi in adult-looking clothes. She thinks that's cute. She tells Elena that she would be down for a blazer for the baby. Elena is going with that idea, but she needs to make it fun and playful.

Melissa talks to Sue about Guiliana. Sue says that she likes to keep Guiliana in very feminine clothing. Melissa interviews that, as soon as she heard "feminine", she thought "pink". And, she has never worked with "baby pink". It's just a color. It doesn't have teeth. That's not the way colors work. Calm down.

Dmitry is working with Etka and her little boy Arjun. He tells her that he's thinking of a jumpsuit and she asks him how he's going to make it edgy or trendy. He tells her that it will be very graphic. Then, he interviews drily that the boy is very cute and the mother is very opinionated. She doesn't really seem that bad. It seems though that everyone has seen this show at some point and now they all fancy themselves to be Tim Gunn. And, I guess, as consumers they're entitled to be that way, but gross. People should try to shut up sometimes, says the guy who writes thousands of words a week about someone else's TV show.
