Lorelai is flipping channels, yelling for Rory to hurry up. Rory yells from upstairs to be patient. Lorelai says they're going to be late. Rory says they won't be. Lorelai says the traffic is always bad on Friday nights and starts fixing Rory's dress. Rory asks why Lorelai is so ready to go and in such a rush to get to Emily's dinner. Rory says that she usually has to fight and scream to get her to go. She reminds Lorelai that she once had to pay her five dollars to not go to the dinner in sweats. Lorelai pushes Rory towards the door and tells her to quickly make her point. Rory says her point is that Lorelai is mean. Lorelai says she's not mean. Rory says that Lorelai is only in such a rush because she wants to see Emily be uncomfortable. That's mean. Lorelai admits that she sometimes slacks about the Friday dinner because she works hard. She says she had a light day today and she's about to see her grandmother, a woman she hasn't seen in a long time, and she's excited to go. Rory asks if this has anything to do with the fact that Emily hates Lorelai I. Lorelai says, "Not at all." Rory: "And when you see Grandma miserable and uncomfortable, you're going to be sad and sympathetic?" Lorelai: "Not at all." Rory: "Mean!" Lorelai says that she's kidding. Rory asks Lorelai to be nice. Lorelai says she will be nice. She promises to only revel internally. Rory says that they can go then. Lorelai stops to get a camera. "Mean," Rory says again. No one locks a door in Stars Hollow.
Rory and Lorelai are driving to Emily's. Lorelai can't stop laughing. "Mean, mean, mean," Rory says. Lorelai keeps laughing. Fade to commercial. This episode has shorter scenes than usual. I think I like it.
Lorelai and Rory struggle with the hat rack up to Emily's door. Lorelai hides the coat rack around the corner before she rings the doorbell just in case Lorelai I answers the door. Emily answers the door in a panic and follows them back to the coat rack. Emily keeps telling them to be quiet as she leads them back inside the house. Lorelai says she'd rather have some help carrying the coat rack than just being led into the house. They set it up and Emily tries to remember exactly where the coat rack stood inside the front door. Emily moans that she never put tape down where the coat rack stood. Lorelai says that the coat rack probably would have moved at least a quarter of an inch over the past five years. Emily says that's a good point and tells them to put their coats on the rack. They do. Lorelai asks how Emily got Lorelai I into the house without noticing the missing coat rack. Emily says that she brought Lorelai I in through the back door and had her help wax the floors. Also she took a nap, so that took up some time. Rory asks where Lorelai I is now. Emily answers, "In the living room, scratching the diamond pendant I bought her against a mirror." Lorelai says they shouldn't keep her waiting. Emily agrees, takes a deep breath and moans, "Oh! Heaven help me." They walk into the living room. Lorelai is all aglow. "Stop," Rory says. Lorelai goes into a pout.
