Alone In A Crowd

So the show starts out with the station bell ringing, and the doors to the fire station open, and there is a Lincoln Town Car parked in front of the truck.

An ambulance arrives at the scene of the fire; people are filing out of the building. Bobby and Kim ask a man coming out of the building if everyone has gotten out. The man tells them that Martha and William Green are still in the building. A boy runs out, and Kim asks if he is William. He is, and he says that his mother went back to get their cat. Martha smashes out a window and starts screaming for help because she is burning up. Kim yells up to her that the fire truck with a ladder is on its way, and then wonders to herself what is taking the fire truck so long.

Jimmy smashes the window of the Town Car and tries to put it in gear to move it, but it isnt working. Someone tells the captain that the closest truck to the scene can get there in five minutes. Jimmy says they can make it in three minutes, so they start the truck and drive it into the Town Car to push it out of the way.

Martha is standing on the windowsill and screaming for help, and that her hands are burning. She tries to climb further out of the window, but she trips and falls flat on her back onto the sidewalk. As Bosco would say, "Oops!" Bobby and Kim run over to her to see if shes okay, but she is dead. The credits roll. ["Hey -- what about the cat?" -- Sars]

Ty and Sully are coming out of a convenience store. Ty took a flyer off from the wall in the store, and now he gives it to Sully. The flyer is for the St. Edwards Singles Mixer. Sully asks Ty how desperate he is. Ty reminds Sully that he himself has a girlfriend. Huh?! Since when? Does his mother know about this? Sully is all, "I know, so why would you --" and Ty gives him this sheepish look. Damn, Ty, that was harsh. Youll do anything to keep Sully away from your mother, huh? So then they get a call about a disturbance and they get back into their car. Ty tells Sully hes only trying to help Sully out, but Sully tells him he doesnt need any help. I agree that the last thing Sully needs is dating advice from Ty.

The fire truck finally gets to the scene, and Kim sees William and goes over to him and hugs him. Jimmy is yelling for everyone to get to the sidewalk. Kim asks him what took him so long, and then Jimmy notices Marthas dead body sprawled out on the sidewalk.

Carlos and Doc are in a hallway of an apartment building. A Chinese girl opens her door and tells them to come in. She leads them into the living room, where theres a woman lying on a table with acupuncture needles sticking out of her face and lit candles all over the room. The girl tells them that her sister is burning up but her hands and feet are freezing, and that she has been throwing up and has diarrhea. Everyone else in the room -- including the girls mother, another sister, and an old man -- is speaking in Cantonese. Carlos and Doc check out the girl, and as they try to take the needles out of her face, the mother starts freaking out. Doc tells the girl who can speak English that her sister is very sick, and that she needs to get everyone out of the room so they can get her sister ready to go to the hospital. The family all freaks out some more, and the girl says that if they take her sister to the hospital, she will die; she asks the paramedics to stay until her father comes home. They take the sister anyway, telling the girl that they will be at the only hospital in New York -- Angel of Mercy.

This scene proves that the writers of this show read my recaps, and are paying me back. Bosco and Yokas are in their car. Bosco has a two-day hangover. Yokas asks Bosco why he drank so much, and he tells her that its because of the new girl in his life. Nicole drinks like a sailor and he cant keep up with her. She is also insistent and aggressive, especially when it comes to cars, and he is exhausted. Yokas is all, "Way more information than I needed!" and Im all, "Doh! Karmas a bitch!" Then they get a call about a possible DOA in a car. Yokas mumbles, "Stiff in the car." Bosco mumbles back, "Probably dated Nicole." I mumble, "The writers will pay. Oh yes, they will pay."

Jimmy finds a kitten and brings it over to William, who is sitting on the curb with Kim. Kim tells William they will contact his father. William tells her that his father lives in St. Louis. Kim is thinking to herself, "Hmmm I wonder if his father is a dead-beat dad. I bet hes really good-looking, too. Gotta make sure to meet him when he gets into town." Kim then tells William that there are people who will take care of him until his father gets to New York, and he asks her if he can keep his cat. Kim doesnt know, but if he cant she tells him she will take care of his cat until his father gets him. Before I can come up with some jokes about the father coming to her house to get some pussy . . . cat, a woman from childrens services walks up to them and takes William for some hot chocolate.

Doc and Carlos bring the Chinese girl into the ER and give Morales all the medical information. They then usher the mother and sisters into the waiting room, and then call in to get another assignment.
