Tricks and Tragedies

Previously: The contestants had to buy their gym equipment auction-style, and the pressure of only having, like, medicine balls or whatever really got to some of the teams. It showed on the scale as Tanya -- who had achieved some sort of emotional breakthrough in the episode -- lost zero pounds. Dolvett used his save, probably in no small part due to the fact that Tanya's emotional breakthrough entailed a lot of talk about deserving to be saved. Well-played, Tanya!

We begin post-elimination, with Tanya pacing and crying outside. She says she's greater than a zero, and won't let obesity win. She's grateful for Dolvett, who saw that she was worthy of being saved when no one else saw it in the past. David feels for Tanya, saying that you can see the weight on her shoulders. Not only the literal weight, but the weight of letting herself and team down and putting Dolvett in the position to use the save. Tanya talks with the other contestants, saying that she's happy to be there and is going to fight harder than she's ever fought. Ruben acknowledges that Tanya pushed herself really hard last week, and deserved the save. He's not thrilled with himself, either, noting that he's 6'3" and only lost three pounds. Ruben hopes that with their save gone, the Red Team will work even harder to reach their goal.

Then it's a Halloween-themed challenge! How timely! If you'll recall, the season's premiere was pushed back a week, which accounts for why the show is now forcing you to relive all those leftover snack-sized Reese's cups you binged on last Friday. If only we had had this episode earlier as a cautionary tale! Ali Sweeney is there among the pumpkins and hay bales, and says that the average kid collects 7,000 calories of candy on Halloween. On that note, it's time for a temptation challenge. The person who wins, wins immunity…for their entire team. Ruben just looks at the camera and goes, "Really? REALLY?" These things are so cruel.

The challenge is as such: there is a field of 100 pumpkins, and in one of them is the immunity prize. The other 99 have assorted treats. Some are cash prizes, which the contestants can keep if they find. Others will be various food products, like a five-pound bucket of lard. The contestants will have a choice to eat said "treat" or pass, but if they pass their whole team will be out. The first person to find immunity will keep their team safe for another week. Everyone of course wants the immunity. The White Team is strategizing so that the guys, who can take on a few more calories, will go until they exhaust their potential intake and then the ladies will step in. Rachel tells us that she's hoping most of all that the Blue Team doesn't get immunity, because if they do someone is definitely going home this week.
