Sex Kills Birds

The show begins with Cassie and Adam in bed together. They go outside and find like 100 dead blackbirds in her yard. I thought I was the only one who that happened to. John shows up and knows exactly what happened. He says that they unleashed a curse and now someone in the Circle will die. That person is Jake. He starts feeling really ill, though continuing to look so freaking hot that I want every blackbird in the whole world to die on my lawn right now. They visit Jane who is still catatonic and whatever. She tells them about the curse. Cassie and Adam have to find some herb so they can make an elixir that will save Jake. He tags along, all beautifully half-dying, and hallucinates and reveals that he killed Calvin, that witch retail guy from earlier in the season. They make the elixir, which they themselves have to drink. It makes them forget their love! John consoles Jake, who is distraught about how he killed Calvin. John reminds him that a man can change. Poor Cassie, though -- she still loves Adam. It's just him that forgot!

Meanwhile, Faye is trying to find out what happened to Lee. She even has Melissa and Diana help her break into his car, whereupon they are nearly arrested. Eva, crazy girlfriend, gets them off though. Eventually, Faye realizes that Eva has powers AND that there's a mummy of Lee in her house. She breaks the totem, which takes Eva's powers away. Then, she just leaves. She doesn't call the police or anything, which really calls into question her standing as a good citizen.

Charlie and Dawn are worried about Jane telling something that she shouldn't, so they visit her and re-hypnotize her with their crystal from Kay's Jewelers. Cassie cries to John about loving Adam. It's pretty sad, though nice to see father comforting daughter. Dawn confronts John about making Jane lie -- there's no Conant/Blake curse. She says that she knows he has powers. He tells her that Ethan and Amelia wanted to leave the Circle, because of their love. They tried to leave, which is what left everyone defenseless the day of the boat fire. He tells her that witch hunters are after them and a witch is working with them. Charlie goes to Jane's room late at night and tells her that she's going to help him destroy John.

We begin to find Cassie and Adam in bed together. He asks Cassie if they should make a spell that stops time. How cute. She tells him that they would be stuck in bed together, but he says that they could think of a way to pass the time. I don't follow. Meanwhile, John walks up to the house to find dozens of dead blackbirds lying in the yard.

John brings the kids outside. He tells them that the dead birds are a sign that they unleashed a curse. He doesn't know the details of the curse, but her grandmother would. They're going to visit her, even though Cassie says she's still in bad shape. FYI -- if you're in bad shape for that long, it means you're dying, which should upset you. Just feel like I should put that out there. In the meantime, John tells Cassie and Adam to keep their cursed parts to themselves.

Faye goes to Lee's place and finds Eva there. Eva says that Lee wanted time to think and went out for a while but Faye doesn't believe her since A) Eva is still there and B) Lee doesn't think. She calls out for him and starts to walk from his witch flea market garage into the house when Eva uses magic to hurl a glass globe into the wall beside her head. Since her back is to Eva, she doesn't see that the hurling happened with magic, but still thinks that bitch is crazy and gets out of there.

Later, she tells Melissa and Diana about the craziness at Lee's. She doesn't think Lee left town like Eva said because his car is still at this house and she thinks they should search it. I can't imagine what she expects to find in a car that's left behind, but whatevs. She gets the girls to reluctantly agree to help her.

Cassie visits Jane with John. When she sees Cassie she thinks that she's Amelia, but she remembers John and is not happy to see him. She tells Cassie/Amelia that a witch from long ago cursed the Conants and Blakes out of jealousy. She says that if they awaken the curse, someone in her Circle will die.

At 7 Briar Hill, Cassie explains to the rest of the Circle sans Jake that she and Adam awakened a curse, which oddly enough is how I refer to sex all of the time. Melissa and Diana start getting scratchy throats when they hear that one of them is supposed to die, but Faye says it's all bullshit and the curse stuff was made by old witches to keep the kids from having sex. The girls leave, with Diana giving Cassie and Adam a little look that could possibly mean, "Thanks for breaking this to me in the least sensitive way possible." Cassie mentions to Adam that they haven't heard from Jake.

If you are watching the show along with the recap, pause your DVRs... NOW. Here we have a shirtless Jake lying in bed. His skin is made of pulled taffy and platinum. This guy knows exactly how beautiful he is and I appreciate that. He hears voices and is about to be seriously spooked when Cassie bursts into his bedroom. She says that she was knocking. He has been in bed all day and isn't feeling well. She notices that something black appears to be slowly traveling up his veins from his wrists. Once dressed (boo), she takes him to her house where she and Adam explain the curse to him. Jake is surprised that Cassie had to have sex with Adam to realize that he was a mistake. Heh. John comes in with a recipe for an elixir that Amelia wrote down once up a time. It's supposed to be able to reverse the curse. Adam wonders aloud why Amelia never used it herself. There are rare herbs in the recipe, so John suggests they visit Calvin the witch antiquities guy. Jake is, of course, not feeling that idea seeing as how he killed Calvin.

Charlie is at Dawn's house. She tells him that John is alive, but he doesn't seem to care. He wonders what she wants. She tells him that a source of hers said that John visited Jane. She's afraid of John finding out about Henry, especially since they're close to getting their powers back. Are they? Charlie says that he'll never be on the same side as John, but Dawn reminds him that he killed Amelia and, if John were ever to find out, he would destroy Charlie. Are you listening now?

John and Co. arrive at Calvin's shop and his niece is there. They ask for Calvin and she says that he has been missing for months, but she can help. She has all of the items on John's shopping list, except for some rare root that can be found in the woods nearby. John says that he'll get the rest of the elixir ready while Cassie and Adam look for the root. Jake wants to tag along with them -- he's looking worse and worse -- but sees Calvin in a cracked mirror before he leaves, which leaves him justifiably freaked out.

Diana, Melissa and Faye find Lee's car and magic pick the locks. They're inside of it when a cop drives up. Diana tries to talk to the cop, but Melissa and Faye pop a button her blouse because they think she needs to work the breasts. It doesn't work and the thing we see is the girls in the back of the police car. Then Eva comes out and talks to the policeman, who lets the girls go. Diana and Melissa thank her and she tries to make peace. Faye says that Lee wouldn't leave his car there, but Eva says that he took his motorcycle. Faye says that she forgot about the hog and slinks away embarrassed and confused.

In the woods, Jake follows behind Cassie and Adam taunting them about the sex they had that is currently killing him. Cassie accuses him of being jealous and he says that she knows it should be her and him together. She doesn't actually know that. Jake reaches into his bag for some water and finds one of those witch-killing jars. He freaks out and breaks it and asks if they got it from Calvin. He's hallucinating. Adam picks up a thermos from the ground, which is what Jake was actually holding. Cassie feels Jake's head -- his fever is getting worse.

Dawn and Charlie visit Jane. Charlie holds his crystal in front of Jane's face for a moment. Then, Dawn asks Jane what she talked about with John. Adam and Cassie are talking about how much they're bummed that their great sex was cursed when Jake hallucinates that Adam is Calvin. Calvin starts saying that he's a killer. Jake throws him down and starts to choke him. Cassie gets her dark magic face on and starts stomping towards them when Adam squeaks that she shouldn't use the dark magic. Instead she focuses on him and Adam gets to use some magic and throws Jake off of him. But now they know that Jake killed Calvin.

John is combining stuff with help from Melissa and Diana. He tells Melissa that she's creative like her mother and that Melissa meant the world to her. Sweet moment! Cassie finds the root and she thanks Adam for bringing her back from her dark magic impulse.

Meanwhile, Faye is snooping around Lee's garage and finds the motorcycle he was supposed to have ridden out of town. Eva shows up and Faye says she's going to the police, but she shuts the door letting Faye into the fact that bitch is using magic. She tells Faye that Lee brought her back from the brink of death. The brink? I thought it was actual death. Anyway. Faye deduces that Lee stole her power from her and then effed everything up when he broke the totem. Eva asks for her help. She's wondering if Faye might be able to help with the stone cold mummified dead Lee problem. Faye explains that she cheats at cards and gets hot pizza guys with her powers and she has to do that with the help of others. She is certainly not capable of bringing people back from the dead. In all fairness, that pizza guy was REALLY hot. Eva starts to turn Faye's hand into a mummy and she screams for her to stop. She does but insists that Faye help Lee.

Back at 7 Briar Hill, Cassie thanks John for his help. And we're back with Faye. She pretends to have some spell that can help Lee. They get on either side of his bed. She tells Eva to get some candles and sees the totem under the bed and is about to take it. Eva sees and is pissed and they start fighting. Faye grabs the totem and breaks it, which takes away Eva's powers and leaves her with no memory of what she was just doing. Faye turns to leave and Eva tells her that she loved Lee and didn't mean to kill him. Tell it to the judge, lady.

So, the elixir is for Cassie and Adam. It will make them forget about their feelings for each other. Well, they'll remember, but they won't feel that way anymore. Adam refuses, but Cassie insists. Adam says that he could never forget how much he loves Cassie, but we'll see. They kiss then drink.

Jake, feeling better, thanks John for helping him. John gives poor Jake a pep talk, though Jake feels that he doesn't deserve anything because he killed Calvin. John tells him that a man can change. The morning, Cassie and Adam wake up on her couch. Adam's not nervous or worrying about if he's good enough for Cassie -- he's not in love with her anymore. He feels... good. Wow, that's the most genius thing this show has done. That's a perfect description of what it feels like to be in love. Cassie says that she feels the same way. He leaves and she hyperventilates.

Faye tells Melissa and Diana what happened. She thanks them for helping her as they comfort her regarding the entire Lee situation. John comes to Cassie and she tells him that she remembers everything. She still loves Adam. She starts bawling and he comforts her and it's very sweet. He tells her that he won't be far away ever again.

Charlie pays a visit to Jane's room late at night. She's getting a lot of visitors. She asks him what he wants and he says that he's going to make her better and she's going to help him destroy John Blackwell -- and his crystal appears. Dawn sees John on the street. She says that he made up the Conant/Blake curse (why would she know that but Ethan would believe it?) and got Jane to say what he wanted. He still has power. She accuses him of being afraid of Adam and Cassie's destiny, just like he was afraid of Ethan and Amelia's. He points out that Ethan and Amelia wanted to leave the Circle and their absence the day of the boat fire left everyone else vulnerable. He says that his power can't stop the witch hunters, who are using magic. That means that one of them is working with the witch hunters. Who could it be? Anyway, he tells Dawn not to question him again.

Poor Cassie goes to sleep staring at the stars on her ceiling.
