The actress who plays Melissa has another gig or something -- she "left town" for this episode. Cassie tells the others that she thinks she stopped Diana from being killed by herself. Faye is suspicious of her. Everyone's suspicious of the fact that Jane hasn't returned from Henry's lake house yet. At the behest of the boss guy, Jake joins the Circle crew as they go to the lake house to look for her. Dawn is nervous when she hears Faye is going to Henry's, but she doesn't stop her from going. She calls Charlie and we find out that he's the one who has Jane, as if we didn't already know. Jake is nervous about the old papers that Calvin left in Cassie's mail before Jake killed him.
When they reach the lake house, Faye hears a little girl screaming. No one else hears it. Then, she finds we footprints that lead to a little girls rain boots upstairs, but she turns around and it's all gone! Jake gets all sexy with Cassie as they start a fire in the fireplace. Faye takes a bath and suddenly it is filled with mud and weeds, but then it's all gone! Later, they play truth or dare. We find out that Faye has only slept with two people. Adam asks Jake why he didn't get put in the Circle with the rest of them -- when Luke was going to kill them. He says it was because he was stronger than the rest of them. Faye and Cassie argue about the kiss that Cassie and Jake share (it was a dare!) and Faye runs out into the rain and sees a little girl in proper rain gear and starts following her. Cassie kisses Jake again in private (not a dare) but he stops her before things get too heavy. Diana and Adam argue about Cassie. They end up doing it in a shed. Cassie goes outside and sees the little girl. She finds Faye, who says that the little girl is her. She remembers the day that she last wore that outfit -- she had almost drowned in the lake and her grandfather saved her. She feels that the little girl is there for a reason. She tries to walk into the water, but the boys stop her. Cassie senses that something is amiss and puts her hands in the water. It starts bubbling and then Henry floats to the surface.
Charlie reveals to Dawn that he has Henry's crystal. They go to the clubhouse to look for Charlie's (Diana's) Book of Shadows. And, he finds it. Dawn wants to take the book away, but he refuses to let her. Things get tight between them and he tells her that he will do things the way he wants. Jane has been knocked out on sleeping pills for what seems like forever. Charlie says that he has always found her smug and self-righteous and dull. I could buy that. He says that he's going to perform a spell that will control Jane's thoughts and memories.
Diana tells Adam that they still aren't together, even if their boot knockin' was body rockin'. Can I get some action from the back section? Jake gets a visit from the boss man when he returns to his home. He says that someone killed an elder, but his energy is still active. Boss man says that they must strike now. The Circle needs to be killed immediately. When Cassie returns home, she tells Jane about Henry. Jane says that she never made it into Henry's house and just assumed he was away, but Cassie is suspicious because she found Jane's scarf inside the house. INSIDE THE HOUSE!
Want more? The full recap starts right below!I don't mean to sound stupid, but I guess Nick is really dead. I'm sad about that. Adam and Diana are together and knocking on Cassie's door. Diana looks all uncomfortable, which is odd, considering the woman-scorned cloak she has been sporting is a PERFECT FIT. Adam asks her if she's OK and she reminds him that the last time she was there she was drugged, kidnapped and almost killed. Touché. Cassie answers and tells them that her grandmother is still gone and hasn't answered her phone. But, everyone else is here. She means Faye, who says that Melissa's mother has been worried about her and took her out-of-town for a while. Melissa has a good agent. Also, Jake is in the kitchen. Adam is pissed but Cassie says that he's part of the Circle, too. Diana is worried that the witch hunters will be coming after them again but Jake is all, nah, don't worry about it. That dude is going to have a day of reckoning that is going to hurt. Faye says that the hunters may have been scared by Luke going up in flames and Diana asks how that happened. Cassie reveals that she thinks she did it herself. Faye is PISSED at the idea that Cassie can do magic by herself. Oh she's pissed. She thinks that Cassie is a big phony acting like she doesn't know anything about witchcraft when bitch done gone FREELANCE. Adam points out that Cassie saved them the night before but Faye wonders if the hunters were coming after them in the first place because of Cassie. All of the crazies started coming out of the woodwork when Cassie came to town. Diana corrects her -- it all started when they bound the Circle.
Cassie breaks up the argument by pointing out a document that Calvin, the witch who only Jake knows is dead because he killed him, put in her mailbox. Jake is very interested. None of them understand it, but it includes the initials "J.B." which Cassie thinks means her grandmother, Jane Blake. She has decided that she's going to Henry's lake house to look for her and all of the others decide to go too. Fun! Road trip!
Later, Jake meets with the big boss and asks if he did something to Jane Blake. He says that, after the failed witch hunt, they've been forced underground. By whom, we don't know. Embarrassment? Seriously, we don't know. Big boss is intrigued by two elders being together. He says that Cassie is the only one in the Circle with dark magic. He says the closer he gets to her, the closer he gets to knowing how to kill her. Ouch.
Faye is packing and asks her mother if she has heard from Henry. She, ahem, excuse me, cough, has...not. At least not after she killed him. Faye explains that Jane went to visit him and hasn't been heard from since, and Dawn's all talking about the bad cell phone reception. Faye says that Cassie is all drama and wants to check on her grandmother. That's funny. Cassie should be so much more drama. She's entirely too laid back about things. If my damn grandma were the only member of my family left on planet Earth and she was missing and unreachable, I'd be a fucking basket case. Under the circumstances, the circumstances including an attempt on her life the night and the discovery that she has the ability to scream and make stuff explode and catch on fire, I think Cassie is a cool as a freaking arctic cucumber. This show seems so FOCUSED on its plot points that there is no room for organic reason. Dawn wants Faye to study for exams, but she persists. It's funny to think of Faye studying. Dawn watches her walk out and seems worried, naturally.
Outside, Adam and Diana pick her up. She's pissed because she was expecting to go with Jake. Diana told him to take Cassie, since they live to each other. Faye thinks she was being clever and, even though she and Adam are off, putting the competition in the other car. She also says that Cassie is overreacting. Henry isn't the kind of guy to wait by the phone. Inside, Dawn calls Charlie. He has Jane in the trunk, as if we didn't know. Talk about reckoning. This dude is going to get it. Dawn tells him to text Cassie from Jane's phone and tell her she's home.
Cassie's driving with Jake and there's a big storm cloud ahead. She says she's stressed about her grandmother, but you really can't tell. She says that she can tell he cared about Nick. He asks her some questions about her lineage and says that knowing her past can help her figure out why she's able to do magic on her own. She says that she left the Calvin papers at home and Jake seems disappointed.
They arrive at Henry's house and it's raining. Faye hears something outside, a little girl calling for help. No one else hears it. The girl who plays Faye has such a great spooky face. She has GOT this shiz. The lights don't work in the house and Henry is nowhere to be found. Cassie finds her grandmother's scarf and wonders where she and Henry could have gone in this weather. She goes to call her and finds a text message supposedly from Jane. It says that she stopped to visit a friend and will be home the day. Problem solved! They decide to stay the night, because of the weather. Faye raids the liquor cabinet. She notices a leak on the stairs and takes a closer look and sees wet footprints leading up the stairs. She follows them and finds some little girl rain boots! She walks away from them and the wet footprints and the boots are gone!
Meanwhile, Charlie arrives at Dawn's. He shows her Henry's crystal. He says he knows where there's a spell to control Jane's memory. Back at Henry's, Faye is over the wet footprint thing and decides to take a drunk bath. Jake and Cassie light a fire together and it's a metaphor for...yes. Their own fire. They do it silently too. It's pretty hot. Faye is taking a bath when suddenly she looks down and there's seaweed everywhere. Gross. She starts to scream. Later, Cassie and Diana go into the bathroom and there's nothing wrong with the tub. Faye wonders if Cassie is messing with her.
Charlie takes Dawn to the clubhouse. He followed the kids there after their binding ceremony. They are impressed with how much initiative the kids have taken to learn the craft. He uses the crystal to find his family's Book of Shadows. Then, Dawn tries to take it from him and he shuts her down. He seems like maybe the crystal is controlling him a little bit, but truth is, Dawn needs to be shut down.
The kids play truth or dare with some rad music playing in the background. First, Diana gets dared by Faye to take her shirt off for the three questions. She says that's not "fair," which really has nothing to do with anything except it's an opportunity for Faye to say that the game is not called "truth or fair." Diana takes her top off and she looks great. Faye chooses truth and Diana asks her how many people she has slept with. She tries to change to a dare but no dice. The answer? Two. Kind of predictable. God forbid a young woman seem sexually powerful and have it not be a cover for insecurity. Adam says Jake is and he chooses truth. Adam asks why he wasn't put in the circle by the witch hunters. Things get tense and Jake says it's because he's stronger than them and needed more people to hold them. Adam says he doesn't believe him and Faye announces that she's bored with macho crap. Then, she asks Cassie if she wants truth or dare, but she warns that truth is a two-parter. First part? Does she only go after guys that Faye and Diana haven't slept with or is that just her thing? Maybe that's both parts? Adam tells Faye to stop and Diana says that Cassie can defend herself. Cassie wisely chooses a dare. Faye is trying to decide what the dare should be when Diana jumps in and says that she should kiss Jake. We should all be dared to kiss Jake. I dare someone to dare me to kiss Jake. So, she does and it's hot and Adam looks away and Diana notices. Faye is pissed and says that Cassie is a relationship-wrecker. Oh yeah? Cassie, having momentarily obtained some balls from who knows where, says that Faye is a bitchy little girl who wants to blame her for all of her problems when she should be looking in the mirror. Ouch. Faye stomps out into the rain and Diana puts her shirt back on. Her boobs couldn't hold this party together. Faye tries to drive off, but when she starts the car she sees a little girl in rain gear in front of the car. She gets out and follows her.
Inside, Cassie looks around Henry's place. There's an amazing wicker lamp and I want it. She knocks over some books and finds a picture of little girl Faye. Jake sneaks up behind her and scares her. He says that Faye likes to think that their relationship was more complicated than it really was, while he doesn't even consider it a relationship. "Spoken like a true guy," she replies. He says that he likes this sassy side of her. Gross. "Spoken like a true cheeseball," she shoots back. Heh. He tells her that her anger is the secret to solo magic. He's all up in her junk, so she takes his lead and says that she has been accused of a lot of things -- why doesn't she do one of them? So, she starts to mack on him and he STOPS her. Damn. Cassie needs a swagger coach ala Bieber. She, obviously, is like, "Oh I need to get that thing," and flees the room. I can't figure Jake out. He has to like her a little, right?
Diana goes to get wood and Adam follows her. She's pissed at his reaction to Cassie kissing Jake. He says that he was looking away from Cassie and TO Diana when they were kissing in order to show that he didn't care. That's amazing. Diana is not buying it. He says that she's freaked because she has never felt doubt in her life before Cassie. Then, they start kissing. They get DOWN in the shed. Meanwhile, Cassie finds the running car but no Faye. She goes towards the water and eventually sees the little girl in the rain gear. She asks the girl how she is but she runs away. Hmm, that's the little girl from the picture inside. So, the child disappears but finds Faye. She tells her that she saw a girl and there's a picture of her inside. Faye says she even remembers the outfit and the last time she wore it. She was six and fell into the water. Her grandfather had to save her from drowning. Suddenly, Faye feels that the little girl is there for a reason.
Jane is knocked out from sleeping pills and Charlie is talking to her. He says he has always found her smug, self-righteous and boring. You know, I can actually see that. He says that, after this spell, he thinks they'll be great friends.
Faye runs to the water's edge. She starts to scream for the little girl. Jake shows up and has to stop Faye from going into the lake. She's hysterical. She thinks the girl is trying to tell her something. Adam and Jake try to calm her as Cassie sees the little girl on a pier nearby, then the girl is gone. She charges down the pier and decides to put her hands in the water. It starts bubbling. Then, Henry's body rises to the surface of the water. There were ropes around him that Cassie's magic cut.
The morning, Faye is still hysterical when cops and Dawn arrive at Henry's. She takes Faye away and she gives Cassie a dirty look before she gets in her car. Later, Jake says that it was amazing that Cassie saw the little girl too. Cassie says that she knew exactly what to do on the pier, but she doesn't know how she knew.
Adam drives Diana home and she says that, though their shed sex was amazing, they won't be getting back together. She needs to find herself. He says that he doesn't want her to find out that she doesn't need him. You know, that's really sad. I actually feel like, even with all of the dead parents everywhere, Adam is the saddest character on the show. Dead mom, star-crossed bullshit, lack of stability with his drunk dad and wanting someone to feel safe with and having that sort of explode in his face all because of the damn stars and what is written on them -- sad stuff. Poor Adam. He needs to cut loose.
Jake goes home and the boss guy is there. Jake tells him that Cassie's magic is stronger than anything he has experienced. He says that Henry was killed but he wasn't killed correctly. His energy is out there. Plus, someone else is targeting witches. To boss guy, this means that they need to strike now. He wants to kill the Circle now. Jake says that the Calvin papers needs to be figured out buy boss guy says just kill them.
Cassie goes home and Jane is there cooking breakfast. She tells her that Henry is dead. She says that she assumed that he was away when she knocked and he didn't answer. But, her scarf was inside. Hmm, she answers, that's strange. "Yeah, it is," replies Cassie and maybe, for the first time, we see this girl taking some initiative to look beyond the surface. She knows that things aren't right here. Victim no more! COME ON, CASSIE.
