Willie dances at a gay club with his friends. He interviews that he is attracted to some people, but he doesn't want to ruin his relationship with Dan. He admits, however, that he is dying for some man-on-man action.
The day, Sarah asks Willie if he had a good time at the club. Willie says he had a blast, and saw many hot guys. He adds that it was difficult, because he really wants to be with Dan. Willie explains their relationship: "We're not exclusive, but we don't want to see other people." I don't get what that means. Oh. I guess it means that you can have random hookups with strangers, but you can't date anyone else. Meaningless no-strings-attached sex? Fine. Emotional connection? No. That seems like a fine theory, but I've never seen it actually work out in practice. ["Actually, I do know some gay folk for whom it works great." -- Wing Chun] Willie interviews that he and Dan don't have a commitment, but he knows that he won't find anyone like Dan out there.
Willie talks to Dan on the phone. Thus begins a montage of Willie on the phone with Dan, who is in a different country every time they talk. Willie interviews that Dan is "a personal flight attendant," so they don't know when they will see each other . On the phone, Dan says that he wants to continue seeing Willie, but he also wants Willie to "have [his] experience" at the same time. Willie interviews that he's not hurt by Dan's permission to date, but that it's also made him question Dan's feelings for the first time. Dan says he doesn't want to intrude on Willie's experience, and Willie says that Dan is involved in that experience already.
Landon talks to his friend Wendy on the phone. He says that the roommates are all comfortable with each other, but that they do have some problems with Karamo and with Melanie. He adds that Karamo is weird, and relays the story of Karamo saying that he wanted to slit Landon's throat. Wendy asks whether Karamo has reason to dislike Landon, and Landon says the only thing he can think of is that he and Shavonda are good friends.
Sarah talks to Karamo while he plays pool. Karamo says that he didn't do anything productive that day, and that he never does. Yet, he skips out on work, which would be productive. Karamo interviews that he's in the deep end of the pool in terms of his comfort zone. Karamo tells Sarah that he's going to start causing problems. Sarah says that won't fix anything. Karamo thinks it will make him feel better, and adds that he has "a very mischievous mind." Sarah thinks that Karamo is a softie. Now she's questioning his manhood? Karamo says that, deep down, he has a very vicious mind, but then something comes over him that makes him do the right thing. A conscience? Sarah interviews that Karamo is unique, and kind of a weirdo. Sarah says that she doesn't like to hurt people. Karamo says he doesn't like to hurt people physically. Sarah says that she doesn't like to hurt people mentally either, and Karamo tells her that she's on her own with that one.
Melanie, Shavonda, and Sarah talk in the office. Hey, this is the same conversation from last week where Melanie promised to try to change! Melanie says she thinks that Karamo just has a weird sense of humor, and that people take it the wrong way. Sarah says she doesn't feel sorry for Karamo at all, and she shakes her finger in the air as she declares that she knows Karamo better than anyone else in the house does. She adds that Karamo has said to her in a dead-serious manner "that he likes to fuck things up, and he prefers to be evil, and he tries so hard to be manipulative and evil, but his good side takes over." Sarah doesn't think the situation is sad, because Karamo pushes everyone away. Shavonda interviews that Karamo is back to behaving the way he did in the beginning, and that she doesn't care. Shavonda leaves, and Sarah tells Melanie that she thinks the situation (where the roommates all hate Karamo) is absolutely fair, because Karamo has brought it on himself.
Willie eats a meal. That kid is always eating. He must burn off a lot of calories dancing at the clubs. Willie tells Sarah that sometimes he's not even sure Dan really likes him. Sarah thinks Dan feels guilty over not being around. Sarah interviews that Dan's job makes it difficult for Willie and Dan to have a relationship. Willie says that Dan wants to take things slow and see what happens, and that takes a lot of effort and patience, and means investing in a potential relationship. Willie thinks that it would suck if he were celibate and faithful, and then when they meet up again in New York, Dan decides that he doesn't want to be with him. Willie says he could just go out and "get some ass" because his "hormones are raging like [he's] fourteen."
Willie hangs out at a club with a guy named Neil, whose curly blond hair makes him look like MJ's gay cousin. Willie asks Neil what he's doing the morning, and invites him to brunch. Neil says he'll be sleeping. Willie, he's just not that into you. Willie drunkenly urges Neil to take his number. Willie interviews that he's very passionate, and that it would nice to have some fun while he's in Philadelphia.
Willie and Sarah hop a cab home. Willie asks, "How cute is Neil?" Sarah thinks he's gorgeous, but she likes Dan better. She adds, "But Neil's here." Sarah says that she saw Neil before Willie did, and thought he was hot. Willie says, "I think I need to get laid!" Sarah giggles, and Willie tells her it's not funny, although he's laughing himself.
Willie leaves the house and says that he's going to have dinner with a cute boy. He walks into a restaurant and meets up with Neil, whose hair is suddenly straight. Willie tells Neil the story of how he met Dan, who he knew from New York, and had sort of dated before. Willie says that they really like each other, but they're not together now. I think Willie meant they're not physically together, because Dan is out of town so much. But they never showed us Willie explicitly saying that he and Dan are currently dating, or involved, or whatever. Neil thinks he saw Willie and Dan together at a club. Willie interviews that he's cautious about dating two guys, because he doesn't want there to be awkwardness. Good luck with that. Willie says that Dan was the first person he's kissed in two years. Neil is shocked, and Willie says, "No one's come around."
Neil and Willie leave the restaurant and go to a club. They dance together, and then start kissing. Willie interviews that his taste in men is more masculine than feminine, and that Neil is a guy's guy. He is? I don't think a guy's guy would straighten his hair. Or pluck his eyebrows. Sarah interviews that everything she's heard Willie say about Neil is all about his looks, not his personality.
The morning, Willie and Sarah talk. Sarah says that she has really high standards for Willie, and that she's disappointed when Neil is out with them all of the time. Sarah interviews that she knows that Willie is dealing with some things right now (horniness). Sarah says that she wants to be friends with the person Willie is dating, and that she's tried with Neil, but there's nothing there. Willie understands that she finds Neil boring. Shavonda asks if Willie is bored by Neil. Willie says that he is at times, but that he's in a weird place, because he doesn't know where he stands with Dan. Sarah interviews that Dan is fabulous, and that even if Willie can't be with Dan, he should be with someone equally as great. Willie says that he likes Neil a lot, and that Neil's local. Shavonda says that Neil fills the void. The phone rings, and it's Dan. Good timing! Willie makes plans for them to get together the night, when Dan will be in town. Willie interviews that he's dating two guys, and that he's not sure how it will come out, but that he doesn't anticipate drama.
Melanie talks to Karamo and tells him that Sarah said she was closer to him than anyone else in the house is. Melanie says she's heard of things that Karamo said that seemed very cold, and that they made her think she doesn't know him as well as she thought she did. Karamo says that he makes "weird corny jokes" and no one gets them. Melanie says that's what she thought. Melanie interviews that she tries to take Karamo for what he's worth, and that she knows that, deep down, he cares a lot about his roommates, but that he's extremely lonely and hasn't made a connection with any of his roommates. Karamo leaves the house.
Karamo and Ed drive somewhere. Karamo says he's disgusted with the people in the house, and asks Ed if he's ever spent time trying to get people to understand him. Karamo says he explains himself to them, and they don't get it. Ed says that people won't always understand him. Karamo says he's not as hurt, because he knows that. Ed is sympathetic to Karamo's plight.
Willie takes a shower. He interviews that he's never dated two guys at the same time, so it's weird to juggle them. Willie wraps himself in a bright yellow towel and calls Neil. His towel is awesome. It shows off his tiny little belly. He's not fat, but he has a little belly, and it's cute. Anyway, Willie tells Neil that Dan is coming into town for one night, so Willie needs to cancel his date with Neil for that night. Willie interviews that he doesn't know what he's supposed to do, and wonders if he should blow Dan off when it's the only night Dan will be in town. Neil seems okay with the news, and they hang up.
Dan walks into the house and is greeted with hugs all around. MJ interviews that, while Dan's been gone, Willie's been dating around, so it'll be interesting to see what happens now. Willie and Dan give each other a long hug.
Willie and Dan leave the house, hugging, kissing, and talking. They go out to eat and have a nice dinner. Willie tells Dan that he met someone and has been seeing him. Willie interviews that this shouldn't be awkward, because this is what Dan wanted. Dan tells Willie to back up a second, and clarifies that Willie is seeing somebody. Willie says that he's not doing anything (i.e. having sex) with the new guy, and that they're just hanging out. He quickly adds that his roommates hate the new guy and think he's boring. Dan looks upset, and then says he wants to make sure Willie takes "full advantage of this opportunity." Willie asks what that means exactly, and Dan says it means "dating people, etc." Well, that's crystal clear. There's a whole lot of wiggle room in "et cetera."
Willie and Dan go to a club and start dancing. Behind them, and unseen by them, Neil sits on a banquette and glares creepily.
And now it's time for the Most Awesome Thing I Saw on TV Last Week. The most awesome thing I saw on TV last week was a television movie called Seduction in a Small Town, although the title isn't really appropriate because it wasn't really about a seduction, although it was set in a small town, so they get it half right. Anyway, Half-Pint Ingalls, her husband, and their two kids move from the big city back to the husband's hometown, and start farming. There's a lucrative venture. And Half-Pint has a heart condition and one kid has asthma, so for a while I thought it was going to be a movie about how farmers don't have health insurance, but apparently they were able to pay for doctor visits out of pocket or something. So Half-Pint feels like an outsider, because it's a small town, so the residents are judgmental and gossipy, like people in big cities aren't also judgmental and gossipy. But Half-Pint was kind of a bitch, not to be judgmental and gossipy or anything. Although I am from a small town, so it's probably in my nature. But then a new woman moves to town, played by Joely Fisher, using a horrible Southern accent for no apparent reason, and Half-Pint befriends her because they are both outsiders. So Joely Fisher has some sort of secret shady past, as you do, and she tries to seduce Half-Pint's husband, which I guess is the seduction of the title, but it's like five minutes out of the whole movie, and it doesn't work, so it's really more like character-building than a plot point. She is also creepily overly involved with Half-Pint's kids. The final straw comes when Joely asks Half-Pint and her hubby (let's just call him Manly) for some money, which they don't have to give, because Half-Pint claims that they have six mortgages on their home, like, what bank would approve mortgages #5 and #6? On a farm, where only Manly worked, as far as I could tell, so it clearly wasn't a big-time operation. Anyway, Joely gets pissed off and reports Half-Pint to Social Services for child abuse, and she manages to talk the local harpies into swearing statements as well, because one time Half-Pint grabbed her son's arm outside the Piggly Wiggly to keep him from running into traffic. The Social Services woman is new to the job, and goes way overboard in trying to make the case, especially the scene where they totally botch confiscating the children and placing them in foster homes. It was like the FBI at Waco, and the Social Services lady was Janet Reno. Anyway, if the director knew anything about pacing, that would have been the big conflict, and the movie would have been resolved about half an hour later, but instead there was all this crap where the kids came back, and then were confiscated again, and Half-Pint had to take two psych exams, and there was a lightning storm and Half-Pint's barn burned down, and whatever! Just get to the part where Joely Fisher is revealed to be a lunatic, people! So then Half-Pint goes to Joely's hometown and finds out that she's a lunatic, and exposes her as such to the local harpies. And then the movie is STILL not over, because there's some rigmarole where Half-Pint can't get her kids back right away due to bureaucracy (always an exciting plot twist! Ooh, the tape, it is so red!) but she does get her kids back, and then the locals help her to rebuild her barn to make up for falsely accusing her of child abuse, and Half-Pint was still kind of a bitch about it, like, didn't Reverend Alden teach her about forgiveness between endless repetitions of "Bringing in the Sheaves"? So it was awesome.
Willie and Dan are still at the club. Willie takes off to talk to Neil, and asks Neil if he's really mad. Neil says that it's rude to make plans, and then change them because you have another date. Willie thinks it's different because Dan is never in town. Willie interviews that he's surprised Neil's so angry, and that it would have been tacky for Willie to blow Dan off to spare Neil's ego. Willie explains that he told Neil about Dan on their first date. Neil denies it, and from what we saw of their dinner, Neil is right. Willie interviews that he specifically remembers telling Neil that he was dating someone. Neil says that he must have been drunk, because he doesn't remember it at all. Willie asks if he can call Neil tomorrow, and Neil says yes. Willie wins again! He must be pretty motherfucking charismatic in person to pull that shit off.
Outside the club, Willie and Dan walk down the street, cuddling and kissing. They get into a cab. Wow, that was a fascinating scene.
The morning, Dan gets dressed while Willie is just waking up. They walk downstairs and share some kisses. Willie interviews that he and Dan still care a lot about each other. Willie looks forward to possibly getting to know Dan better in New York. I sure hope those two crazy kids can make it work!
After Dan leaves, Willie calls Neil and says he knows it seems kind of shady. Neil gets all fired up: "'Seems kind of shady'?" Willie says Neil knew from the beginning that there was someone else. Willie interviews that he understands how Neil feels about this awkward situation. Neil says that Willie made it out like he and Dan dated in the past, but didn't make it clear that they were still dating. Neil feels that Willie made him look "like an idiot or one of [his] tricks." Neil concludes that it's not okay, and hangs up on Willie.
MJ and Landon play indoor basketball while Shavonda watches and laughs. In another part of the house, Karamo tells Ed that he used to hang out with MJ and Landon a lot, but that he blew them off, and now he wants to let them know that he still wants to be friends. Karamo says that Ed inspired him to do that. In a confessional, Karamo says that Ed makes him feel more confident, comfortable, and reenergized, so it makes it easier for Karamo to deal with his roommates. Karamo says that he hasn't tried to get his roommates to understand who he is.
Karamo talks to Landon in the office, and says he wants to change. Landon says that Karamo acts strange sometimes, like when he said he wanted to slit Landon's throat. Karamo says that he gets stressed out over everything, and that he has to go and sit on his bench outside to clear his head. Landon says that they are all confused when Karamo leaves, because they don't know why he's upset, so it might be better if Karamo gave them a hint as to what he's thinking or feeling. Landon adds that they don't know Karamo's background, which would help them to understand where he's coming from. Karamo interviews that the talk with Landon was helpful, and helped him to see some things about himself. Landon says that everyone has let Karamo do his own thing, and Karamo says that he doesn't want to do his own thing anymore. Landon interviews that he's happy Karamo came to him, because he wants his roommates to feel like they can talk to him.
That night, MJ says that Karamo came up with the idea to go outside and play dodgeball. The roommates head outside and play in some park. Karamo interviews that he has to do some self-evaluation and look at the positive things about himself. The roommates play dodgeball, and Karamo grins.
