New Season! The designers are back in New York and staying at the Atlas apartments, which apparently smell good. Everyone arrives, and they all convene on the roof, where Heidi (pregnant AGAIN) leads a champagne toast. Then, they head to Central Park for their first challenge. There’s a bunch of fabric lying around, and they have to race around and grab some stuff that they want. From their grabbings, they are required to edit to five and create a look that represents who they are as designers. Janeane creates a look that Tim pooh-poohs, so she has to create a new one at the last minute and actually pulls it off. Emilio looks like he’s going to have an unfinished garment, but he finishes it and WINS the challenge. Awesome-ass Ping and bleh Seth were the other top designers. Jesus, Christiane, and Anthony were in the bottom, with Christiane’s amateurish design getting the boot. Nicole Richie was the guest judge and was surprisingly (or not, I guess, what’s my problem?) quite competent. Jesse’s the cute one. Anthony’s funny. Anna is the sweet kid sister. Jonathan will, mark my words, be the drama. So, essentially all slots are filled. My pick for winner, and this is pure intuition based on stupid stuff like facial expressions and my personal convo with Zeus, is either Jay or Amy.

Want more? The full recap starts right below!Hey everybody! Firstly, great work from Al Lowe and LuluBates as they eased us into life at Lifetime. Here's the beginning and-- look there! It's the Empire State Building! Who could imagine such luck? I have completely avoided Project Runway in Los Angeles. Sorry LA, I wanted no part of you.
Perhaps I shouldn't have celebrated so soon? Here's our first designer, walking down the sidewalk amidst a bunch of New Yorkers who are most likely annoyed to be a part of the proceedings. He tells us that he wants to be a fashion icon. His name is Seth Aaron Henderson and he's 37 and from Vancouver, Washington. Seth has the hair of Stephan Jenkins circa 1998. This is no good. He wants to be a member of the same club as Dior, Tom Ford, and Karl Lagerfeld. My initial feeling about Seth is that I don't like him. True, this is based primarily on his choice of hairstyle, but I feel OK with that. If he donates his bone marrow to a stranger or something, I'll be happy to change that opinion, but for now, I'm suspicious. As we see him entering an empty apartment, he says that he wants to be a household name. That said, he doesn't do anything if he's not having fun. He said that -- I didn't intuit it or anything. Then, he takes a Nestea backwards leap onto one of the empty beds and appears to break it. It seems Lifetime spared no expense when they furnished this apartment at Futon Fair. There are so many mysteries in this season premiere. We see some photos of some of his designs. He tells us that he is drawn to vintage, but he adds sophistication. The garments we see appear well-made, but it really looks like West Coast Swing warmed over. The mannequins displaying the looks are thinking, "Replace us with a pale brunette with tattoos, short bangs and red lipstick and you are officially in the Brian Setzer Orchestra."
Here's wide-eyed Janeane Marie Ceccanti who is 27 and from Portland. Hey hey, they are back at the A+las apartments. I won't do that again -- with the plus sign. Janeane tells us that she is very excited. She says that she has never been to New York and she is "dorking out" about it. She let's out an excited, "Oh my God!" when she opens the door of the girls' apartment. We see photos of her work and she says that she likes to design independent of any period. The stuff we see is pretty cool, though her clever use of detail and contrasting colors may mask a lack of an interesting silhouette. There's a strapless dress of black with white darts at the waist. The dart action is cool, but there is absolutely nothing interesting about the shape of the bodice. That, however, may be in keeping with her timeless theme. We'll see. Then, she interviews tearfully that the thought of a show at Bryant Park "obviously" makes her want to cry. The mannequins are like, "Don't start now. There will be plenty of time for tears." Agreed, mannequins, let's all calm down. She continues that being a part of Fashion Week would change her life. I swear that I'm not trying to be a curmudgeon, but I feel almost certain that there's a kind of meta-cynicism at work here. When we were first exposed to these reaching-for-the-stars reality shows, there were, of course, touching moments of people yearning for the brass ring. I believed them. Then, it seemed like the platform to yearn for the brass ring became the actual brass ring more than original brass ring, yes? It started with contestants realizing that they could get a lot of attention for being an asshole. Now, I feel like the overly emotional contestant is the goal for the majority. God, listen, I know I'm not saying anything that we don't already know. I'm just calling a little bullshit on Janeane here and I don't even think she KNOWS that she's bullshitting us. I think we're all just wired now to cry during a certain part of the interview. And, here's the thing, folks. Some of us are just criers. And, I even enjoy watching someone tell me something when they are full and engaged. But, her crying was forced and inorganic and now I've annoyed myself and am moving on.
Ping Wu enters the girls' apartment. Janeane introduces herself and they hug. Ping seems really excited. She is 33 and from Chicago. She tells us that she is an American-trained physical therapist and Italian-trained fashion designer. She works as a physical therapist by day, so she knows how the body moves. Oh my shit, thank you WORLD! Is this my new Diana Eng? Is it? If it is, I'm just going to go ahead and decree that this may be the third best season of Project Runway ever. I love the weirdos. So, we see video of Ping's work on a runway. It has, to coin a possibly meaningless/hopefully evocative phrase, a kind of flowing geometry to it. There's a sort of Mondrian thing going on in her prints and there's an angularity that is softened with long skirts and loose fit. She says that she is always looking for the simplest cuts to liberate body movement. The mannequins are flipped to the tits. They are ecstatic. I know, girls!
Ben Chmura, who is 29 and from Tampa, is the guy to enter. Seth Aaron introduces himself as "Seth Aaron." I know. When it was 1972/73 and his parents named him Seth Aaron Henderson, I'd bet you a pair of glitter-colored Doc Martens that they had no intention whatsoever of anyone ever calling him "Seth Aaron." Seth Aaron shows Ben around and tells him to avoid the bed that he broke. We don't see any of Ben's work.
Outside, getting out of a taxi, is Anthony Williams. He's 28 and from Atlanta. He tells us that he grew up in Birmingham, Alabama and laughs that it is hell growing up black and gay in the ghetto. Touché. He enters the apartment and Seth Aaron remarks, "Wow, that's quite a suitcase." Anthony has a big suitcase. He replies sweetly, "Honey, I brought Georgia with me." So, I'm liking Anthony. There's something genuine about the obvious placeholder for this year's gay clown slot. He explains that his ultimate goal is to design gowns for contestants in the Miss USA and Miss Universe pageants. He's not a fan of the Miss America pageant. I actually find that sort of intriguing and want to know more. We see some shots of Anthony's creations and they are typical pageant wear, though a little less over the top than Kayne Of Many Colors was churning out when he was our clown. It's unknown whether that will be a good or bad thing. Anthony says that, "If life has called me for such a time as now, then Anthony needs to rise to the occasion. Period." The mannequins are like, "I get it, but what the fuck did he just say?"
Here's Jay Nicolas Sario, our faux-hawked, tanned and tank-topped designer who is 31 and from San Francisco. His suitcase is as big as he is and it's a fanny pack. That's how tiny Jay is. He dryly intones that his aesthetic is eclectic. He likes things to be dramatic. We see photos of a couple of his designs and they are indeed dramatic. Lots of detail. There's a short pantsuit that is really unique. Part-feminine, part-post-apocalyptic, part-circus. Cool stuff. There is also an evening gown that is whimsical and incredibly detailed. He says that he doesn't care about making a lot of money. Actually, he says that he doesn't WANT to make a lot of money, but I'm betting that he means that he doesn't care so much about being a part of the machine. He wants to concentrate on creating work that he loves.
Once Jay is in the apartment, Anthony jokes that the broken bed belongs to Jay. Jay, I kid you not, laughs a little and says that, since he's skinniest amongst the four of them, he'll be fine on the broken bed. Bitch did NOT! But he did. Seth Aaron says that he's 180. I don't know why he told that. Jay says that he's 145. Ben takes a moment to decide that he's 1...52. Yeah, I don't know what was happening there. As for Anthony? He's "thirsty." Excellent.
In the girls' apartment, Pamela Ptak enters. She is 47 and from Bucks County, Pennsylvania. Ping and Janeane greet her with hugs. That's sweet. I like that they're all hugging over there. Pamela explains that she had another career before attempting one in fashion. She tells Ping that she worked in advertising and got as far as she wanted to go. She wants new challenges now. Hmm, perhaps it just sounds a little stale because she had to repeat herself dozens of times to the producers and whatnot, but I sensed a little, I don't know, defensiveness in her speech there. Like, she really needs everyone to know that she hasn't been trying to make it in fashion design all these years. She was doing something else. Something else at which she was brilliant. Just like she is at fashion design now! But, she didn't want it AT ALL until like 10 minutes ago. Save it for the runway, Pamela. You're not going to really prove anything in the apartment. We see some photos of her work and it's mostly unremarkable. There's a gown that has some interesting structure to it, but otherwise it all appears a bit home-sewn. She tells us that she has a business making custom garments for private clients. The mannequins are like, "Thank goodness we don't have feet. Have to dodge all that bullshit down there." I don't know why I'm being such an asshole. Pamela is probably just trying to use her advertising background to help her chances by branding herself as upscale and passionate. It feels desperate though and I think she should just concentrate on the work. But, we're three minutes into the season, so why don't I just calm down? Pamela tells us that she's a type-A personality.
Here's Anna Marie Lynett, 23, from Milwaukee. She greets everyone and says that she can't believe that she's there. She is adorable. We meet Jonathan Peters who is 29 and from Providence, Rhode Island. He says that he is "kind of an animal" when it comes to competition. Then, he growls. You see, in comparison to Janeane, Jonathan just strikes me as dated. He just thinks he's going to get attention by being FIERCE. FYI - I think I'm gonna hate Jonathan. After viewing and re-viewing four billion hours of this program, I'm beyond comfortable with these snap judgments. I'm equally at ease with admitting I'm wrong (I won't be). He tells us that he has begun hand-painting his designs. We see a few photos and, I don't know. Everything's a little too drape-y, but the painting is pretty nice. It all looks like depression glass. He's trying to find the place where "gritty meets pretty." Fine, he sounds like a tool, but that experiment could produce some cool stuff. In fact, I saw the Marilyn Minter exhibit in Cincinnati a few months ago and it explored those same themes and was pretty compelling. But, Jonathan will need to walk and not just talk, so we'll see. Jonathan is the first person in his apartment and kicks his shoes off.
Jesse Lenoir enters. He is 24, from Orlando and dreamy. He looks like Lee Pace, no? He tells Jonathan that he was an actor. Then, he tells us that he works at Disney World portraying the Johnny Depp Caribbean pirate. We see a photo and he's cute. He tells us that, as an actor, he learned how to sew. Then, he taught himself how to design. We see some of his garments and they are all sweet dresses. He looks to have a lot of personal style, so I hope that translates more to his designs than what we just saw. Cause that shizz was Forever 21. Jonathan tells Jesse that he is self-taught as well. Jesse says that they have to stick together, but I think he said that more out of not knowing what to say than really meaning it.
Approaching Atlas is Mila Hermanovski. She is 40 and from LA. She tells us that she took a detour from her fashion design career and worked in costuming for films and television. Her stuff looks pretty clean and formal -- a little Helmut Lang. She thinks that she gained a unique perspective from working in costume design and is ready to show the world what she can do.
Maya Luz enters the apartment where Mila is looking out the window. She's 21 and a New Yorker. She tells us that she likes fashion that takes risks. Her stuff is very dramatic. Lots of interesting silhouettes and textures and stark colors. She says that she is influenced by music and feels that fashion and rock and roll are hand-holders. She and Mila both have bangs and high-five over this coincidence. Mila says that she didn't know her little sister would be on the show, which I believe confuses Maya a little bit. I got it.
Christiane King, who is 29 and from LA, enters . She remarks that the apartment is nice. Mila thinks that it smells good too. Jesus, I forget how hard it is meeting all of these people. This is how the Octomom feels when she wakes up every morning.
Here we meet Jesus Estrada. He's in a cab on his way to Atlas. He is 21 and from San Diego. Nice eyebrows. He doesn't feel that his youth is an issue because he is very confident and feels that he is a very talented person. We see some shots of his work and, I'm not really sure. There appears to be so much wind machine action in the photos that I'm not positive I have a handle on the dresses. Anyway, Jesus says that he has a lot of imagination and his designs certainly seem to exemplify that statement. Upstairs, he tells Jonathan and Jesse that his specialty is evening and couture. "So, you guys better watch out." Jesse looks like he doesn't know how to reply, but Jonathan lets out a guffaw. Cover your temples, folks, some shoes are gonna be flying up in there come soon.
, Emilio Sosa enters. He is 43 and a New Yorker. He and Jesus speak a little Spanish to each other. Amy Sarabi is the to arrive. She is 25 and from Oakland, California. She greets the girls in the apartment, then interviews that she feels that her Iranian background has influenced her design aesthetic. Wow, her stuff looks really cool. Geometrical yet feminine clothing. She tells us that she likes being different. Keep your eyes on this one, folks. There's something about her.
Lord, I'm all designered out. Finally. It's like the producers are trying to create an actual sweat shop in Atlas. There are 55 of them. They all read notes from Heidi welcoming them to New York. They are instructed to meet her and Tim on the roof for a champagne toast. Jesse says that they were supposed to say it "in German." Dude, that's played. Heidi's accent is really not very funny anymore.
On the roof, Heidi reminds the designers that the show has returned to its original home, the Atlas apartments. She introduces Tim and tells them that he will be their mentor. Tim says that, more than any other season, these designers are diverse, innovative, and practical. They are everything! Tim serves the champs while Heidi, who is improbably pregnant for the seventh time, has apple cider.
The designers mill around and introduce themselves to each other. Janeane has to be told which building in the skyline is the Empire State Building. Clue: the tallest. Emilio tells us that he works in costuming because he needs a job. He loves creating costumes for shows, but he wants to clothe his fellow straphangers on the subway. Ben tells Heidi and Tim that his background is in comic book illustration, so he is interested in armor. He interviews that his designs are not always very feminine, but they look pretty feminine to me. Frankly, they're not terribly interesting. Christiane says to Heidi and Tim that she likes to use a lot of layers and a lot of color. She tells us that she comes from the Ivory Coast where everyone wears color. She informs us that she has won awards and had her designs represented on the red carpet -- she's just good. OK, thank you. Anna explains to Tim and Heidi that she considers herself an artist. She studied printmaking at RISD where she learned to scrutinize her own work. Her stuff looks good too. Feminine shapes with muted colors and intricate construction. I love her vibe. Tim tells everyone that the details for the first challenge will be revealed the day at Central Park.
Cut to the day. The designers arrive in the park and see tons of fabrics lying on benches. Anthony jokes that Mood must have hung their fabric out to dry. Oh Anthony! Tim greets them and tells them that the designers will need to design a look that embodies who they are as a designer. Mila is thrilled that they get to do their own thing. Tim tells them that they will have three minutes to grab as much fabric as they can. Everyone seems stunned. At "go," Emilio describes the scene as a bunch of fat people at an open buffet in Vegas. Classy. Truth be told, you don't have to be fat to be excited about a good Vegas buffet. Hey, Riviera. Christiane says that she went for the colorful fabrics. After the three minutes is up, Tim asks them to gather round. He tells them that he's giving them their first opportunity to edit. They can only have five of the fabrics that they grabbed. Pamela says that giving up the fabric felt like giving up a limb. Ping notes that she apparently picked the ugliest of the fabrics. She also has problems unfurling her fabric from the ream. When everyone is done, Tim sends them to the workroom. Seth Aaron says that, if you don't take the first challenge as an opportunity to shove your vision in the judges' faces, you might have trouble.
Tim meets them at the workroom and introduces the HP etch-a-sketch that each of the designers will have. It's a way to sketch without having to be great at it. They have been assigned models and they have cards with the measurements of their model. Also, the winner of this challenge will have immunity in the challenge.
With Tim gone, they all get to work. Seth Aaron announces that he will assault the judges with his essence. Janeane interviews that she has designed a black cocktail dress with pleating and cap sleeves. She tells Ben that she found one fabric that she liked, so she's using that for her entire look. Emilio is designing a dress that he feels like exhibits his talent with color, style and fit. Ping likes to see her designs on a human, so she drapes on herself. Cue funny looks from other designers. She says that she anticipated that her work style would be different from the other designers. Jonathan thinks that people are having problems with the time constraints of the challenge.
Later, Tim enters and tells the designers that they will get to meet with their models for 30 minutes. Madcap fitting ensues. Jesus decides that, since his model is very tall, he should lengthen his dress. I thought he got the measurements?
In the sewing room, Jonathan asks what everyone is wearing to the runway show. Anna asks him the same question. He answers that he wants to wear something that he can be dignified in as he's being sent home. Hmm, truthful. Perhaps I will have to rethink my casting of Jonathan as resident shit stirrer.
Tim returns to talk to the designers. Christiane wonders if her design is bold enough. Tim tells her to finish it impeccably and stand by it with confidence. He finds Ping wrapped in all of her fabrics. He asks her if she's cold and she laughs and says that she is designing with those fabrics. In fact, she's wearing her design. Tim asks why that's the case and she explains that she likes to design her looks on actual humans. Also, she doesn't have a dress form at home. He wonders if she can have perspective when she's wearing it, but she says that she would only give to a client a design that she would want to wear. I don't think he knows what else to say to her. Seth Aaron has a visible zipper on his dress and Tim asks him his comfort level with the zipper. He likes it, but Tim wonders if it can be cartoonish. Seth Aaron adamantly states that this is what he's doing. He talks to Janeane and points out that her fabric is showing every imperfection in her construction. She interviews with more of those non-tears that she's realizing that she cannot send this dress down the runway. Anthony has a bold print matched with an odd green fabric. Tim wonders why he would introduce a weird supporting character when he has such a wonderful leading lady. I like that metaphor. Anthony says that he didn't introduce it, he just showed it to Tim, who clearly didn't like it so it's out. Tim talks to Jesus and doesn't like the seam where he elongated his dress. Emilio tells Tim that he wanted to create an ombre with fabric. Tim is worried that he won't have enough time to finish. He points out that no one in the history of the show has just not sent out an outfit for the runway show. Now, Tim, why would you say something like that? That's only going to freak him out! And, it does. Emilio says that his skirt is in pieces on his work table. Tim tells all of the designers that he's worried about them. He admires their ambition, but bitches got to finish.
After he's gone, everyone scrambles. Christiane thinks that she might win the challenge. Janeane non-cries that, with two hours left in the day, she decided to start over. The mannequins are like, "Well, looky here, we've got the great Helen Hayes in our presence. Give us some Hedda Gabler, you big ham!" Jonathan worries that her choice could have devastating effects. Emilio only has the top part of his dress completed at the end of the day. "Why? Why? Why me?" he asks.
The day, the designers return to the workroom. This means that Jesse is not getting eliminated, because we haven't even seen him shirtless yet. I mean, seriously, that's how it works. Janeane seems calmer than the night before. Emilio hasn't even put his design on his model. Mila tells Christiane that her design is looking a little messy. She interviews that Christiane's lack of construction skills is going to hurt her. Ouch. Ping knows that her designs are very different and the judges may hate it. Jonathan says that her design is "very Ping" and she may go home. Suck it, hater. What? That just came out. Tim enters and welcomes them to their first runway day. He sends in the models and gives them an hour for hair and make-up. Jesus loves his dress on his model. Anthony is nervous. He's worried about not having enough time to finish. Christiane is feeling confident. Even Emilio finishes! He likes it too! And, glory be, Janeane finishes. Seth Aaron thinks that he could definitely win.
On the runway, Heidi greets them and tells them they're in or out. Because Nina Garcia has a new job, the winner will have a layout in Marie Claire. She introduces Michael Kors and Nina Garcia. Nina! I've missed you. The guest judge is Nicole Richie. The show begins. Jonathan's design is first. It's a cocktail dress. Hmm. It's pretty interesting. The skirt is black and flowing. The bodice is a white and black fabric that's pretty sophisticated. There is a large cutout on the back. Jonathan is very happy with it.
is Seth Aaron's dress. It's a black and white plaid dress. At the hem of the dress, there are pleats that create a sort of donut cloud. Otherwise, the dress is pretty fitted. There's a visible red zipper up the back of the bodice. There is some sort of suspender action with the straps. OK, it looks well-made, but I think this is seriously dated. Just like Seth Aaron. He's thrilled with it. He thinks it looks better on the runway than when he was making it.
Here is Jesus's gown. It's tacky. It's skintight crocodile skin. There's this gaudy halter business that's a no. In the back, there's a vent allowing for a long brown chiffon train. Speaking of trains, there's been a wreck. He, however, loves it. It fits well and I think that's the only thing he can think about.
Ben's dress is . It's a short dress of a shimmering pink fabric (actually, I saw online that he combined two fabrics to create this look). There's a sort of futuristic silhouette. The shoulders are exaggerated and pointed and the hips are also pronounced. Ben feels that he is giving the judges a good glimpse of what he does.
Here's Jay's look. It's a strapless cocktail dress. It's a pattern of white and green on the top of the skirt is gray/brown with flowered fabric on the hips and in the center at the waist. I don't know about that center bunch, but the hips look pretty cool. Jay says that he believes in the garment.
Here's Pamela's dress. It's pink. It seems pretty simple. The skirt flows and the sleeves are long and blousy. It's very Maria Von Trapp. It's pretty, but doesn't seem that special. It's much more interesting from the back.
is Emilio's look. Wow. It's a one-shouldered cocktail dress with a flowing skirt. The real interest though is the construction. It's like he created his own fabric. It's really beautiful and he's very happy with it.
Here's Jesse's look. At first, it appears to be a tweed dress with off-the-shoulder sleeves. At the end of the runway, his model removes a tweed coat and reveals that there is a bright red blouse beneath. Costume-y, but cute. He feels like he showed the judges his skill.
Here's Ping's look. It's really interesting. The blouse is orange and completely shapeless, except that it's sexy. The skirt is a weird green fade and there's one suspender strap from the right hip. Ping is very happy with it. Her model does a cute little kick-ball-change at the end of the runway.
And now we have Christiane. It's a short cocktail dress in royal blue. She added swatches of patterned fabric on top of it that look like an afterthought. This is not pretty.
Here's Amy's design. It's a strapless white top paired with a black and white diamond skirt. The skirt is voluminous and creates a bubble. The top of the bodice is asymmetrical and creates a really weird freak show effect. I like that. She is happy with her design.
Janeane's design is ... and it's not half bad! She paired a scoop-neck translucent black blouse with a short and shapeless white skirt. I think it looks very hip and altogether better than her initial design. She seems relieved that she finished her design and it doesn't look bad.
Mila's design is . I am not a fan. It's like a Chanel suit without the class. Seriously. The skirt is gray and loose. The jacket is opened and blue and weird. I don't like this. She, however, thinks that it's great.
Now we have Anthony's design. It's a halter dress with a big bow on the hip. I know everyone hates bows, but I think it's kind of cute. The neck looks a little off, but I don't think it's that bad. Anthony is a big fan of the print and hopes that the judges like it too.
Anna's dress is and it's really pretty. It's a lemon/champagne dress with a halter neck and scooped neckline. The skirt is flowing and moves beautifully. The back is criss-crossed and shows a lot of skin. Anna is proud of herself because she's new to creating work rapidly.
Maya is our victim. She created a short tan dress with a dark flourish of fabric at the shoulder. It's pretty dramatic and reminds me of Christian Siriano. She says that she is excited to be here with her peers, though she wants to beat them.
After the show, Heidi calls Amy, Anna, Ben, Janeane, Jay, Jesse and forward. She also calls Maya, Mila and Pamela. They are all safe. I wonder if she did it that way to make everybody nervous for a second, OR if it's because the last three were close to being in the bottom. The safe people leave the stage and the models for the rest return.
They start with Anthony. He says that he was going for feminine, fun and functional. Heidi likes the bottom, but is not a fan of the top. Michael says that it looks like he glued several dress together. He doesn't think many women are going to want the bow on the hip. He says a woman could wear it to a garden party to steal champagne bottles. Though embarrassed, Anthony can't help but laugh at his joke. Nina thinks that the print and the silhouette are conflicting, which a pretty good point. The print looks like it belongs in another dress. Nicole points out that the back is too tight and short, but overall, she thinks it's beautiful and that he did a good job under pressure. Anthony thanks the judges for being nice. He says that he thought he was going to disintegrate, which gets a big laugh from the judges.
It's Seth Aaron's turn to describe his look. He calls his look "Little Tokyo." She's going to the VMA's and is "rocking it New Wave punk-style." Still hate it. Nicole disagrees with me. She thinks that, from head to toe, he has created the most cohesive look. She thinks that he knows his audience. Heidi thinks it's fun. Nina really "appreciates" the back, which Michael likes as well.
Ping says that she wanted her look to appear like fabric just placed on a hanger. Then, as it moves, it shifts and changes. Nicole says that the look got her attention immediately. She thought it was a show all by itself and she would even wear it. Nina thinks that the outfit looks uncomfortable and Ping's all, "Nooooo." Seriously though, that's what she cares most about. Michael thinks that this is a great first project for her. It really showed who she was.
Heidi tells Jesus that she doesn't think his dress is very fashionable. Michael agrees. He thinks it looks like a crocodile trunk exploded on an evening gown. He also finds it "unwieldy." Heidi, being brilliant and having the eyes of an eagle, wonders if the dress started off short. Crazy! It did! Nina thinks his model looks like a chocolate bar. Nicole thinks that it could be a great dress, but it needs more thought.
Christiane says that she was shooting for sophisticated and elegant. Nina likes the draping, but is not a fan of her fabrics. She can see every detail of the construction. Michael thinks that the draping looks labored.
Emilio explains that he was trying to display technical knowledge with construction. Michael says that it's deceptively simple -- you'd never know the extent of work necessary to do what he did. Nina thinks that the dress would have a lot of hanger appeal. Nicole loves the skirt -- she thinks it was a great choice.
The designers leave while the judges confer. Nina reiterates that she had a problem with Anthony's print and silhouette combo. Heidi found Christiane's design unsophisticated. Nicole thought there was no theme. She says that she actually liked Jesus's dress. Nina agrees that there was something unexpected about it. Michael thinks it had all of the clichés of "Isn't this glamorous?" Wow, that's funny and hits LOW.
Michael thinks that Seth Aaron's dress would be commercial. Nicole loved Emilio's skirt. Heidi thinks it might be too "sweet," but Nina thinks that the fabric choice saved it. Michael says that Ping's design transported you. Nicole says that it was her favorite look. They've made their decision!
The designers return. Ping is safe and she gets a "well done." Emilio is the winner! He seems thrilled. He interviews that he's afraid a target will be on his back. I don't know how that could affect you. Seth Aaron is in. Anthony is in! He gasps and asks Heidi if he heard her correctly. She tells him to leave the stage before she changes her mind. Heidi tells Christiane that they have no idea who she is. She tells Jesus that he has questionable taste. And, somebody's got to go, but it's not him! Christiane is out! She gets her Auf Wiedersehen and leaves. She interviews that she is really disappointed. She doesn't feel that her design was the worst.
Tim meets her backstage and tells her that he regrets that she must leave. With nary a trace of bitterness, she says that she is thankful for the experience. Good luck, Christiane!
