TWoP: Hi, Christian! How's fame? Is it annoying yet?
CS: No, it's good! It's just so busy I'm gonna vomit every day!
TWoP: Can you walk the streets without being mobbed?
CS: Yeah... no. No.
TWoP: Do you have any crazy fan stories?
CS: I've had weird ones. Like the other night I was out to dinner and this guy just came over and asked me to kiss his child, like, his baby. To I guess basically bless his child. But it wasn't like he was asking. He stuck the child in my face -- and the baby was a newborn. Stuck it in my face like that! [Makes throwing newborn in my face gesture.] It was the scariest thing.
TWoP: Were you eating?
CS: Oh, totally eating! And everyone in the entire restaurant was staring at me, it was so awkward. I mean, I've had the weirdest things, you know? People are just freaks out there. But it's nice. I mean, everybody's really friendly, and if they ask to take pictures I'll happily do it for two or three hours because I like to make sure everybody gets it. If they don't I'll feel bad, so I like to make my poor boyfriend wait around for three hours.
[At this point, Christian sees a promo for America's Top Model on TV.]
CS: [Gasps] Top Model!
TWoP: It's coming back! Are you a big fan?
CS: I know! I'm on this season!
TWoP: For the whole season?!
CS: No, just one episode.
TWoP: That's great! We love your cameos. Do you have any others coming up?
CS: Well, I'm going to be doing an episode of Top Model, I haven't filmed it yet, but it'll be for the new season. I did an episode of The Biggest Loser, but I don't know if I should really say yet, because they're kind of hush-hush. I did a thing with the Tyra show and The Biggest Loser; that was probably the most recent thing, but you know, just pop-ups here and there.
TWoP: Well, let's talk about your spring collection. It debuts month. How's it going?
CS: Spring! Gah!!! It's coming together.
TWoP: Can you tell us what we can expect?
CS: What can we expect? Fabulousness. You know, it's going to be a good show. It's a very show show. There are like 30 looks, the colors are really beautiful, there are lots of gray tones, like grays and icy colors, which you would think would be very dark, but we're doing it in a very light way, with organza and chiffon. And then there's like, pops of color, like charmeuse with electric green, yellow, and then a pop of this like neon orange, so those are the colors. It's going to be cool. Very dramatic, but very light and feminine.
We have sponsors you know, from like Victoria's Secret, so we'll have a Victoria's Secret model on the runway, and just like fun things like that. LG's also a sponsor, so everybody in the front row is going to have a really fabulous gift from LG, which will be something special, which is really good. You know, lots of drama. It'll be very dramatic!
TWoP: OK, I want to ask you about your maternity line.
CS: Ha! Moody Mamas! OK. Well the thing is, basically, the designers who created Moody Mamas are really good friends of mine that I went to college with, and they really just needed some help. You know, they needed some press, they're a new company, and I kind of felt like, you know, whatever, I'm a new company too. People are not going to be taking me that seriously, I've not even shown a collection before, so I'd better do it now, while I can weed out some of these things. But I think it was fun! It's been great. I mean, there are so many fabulous celebrities who are pregnant now.
TWoP: All of them are! They're taking over!
CS: Right?! They're all pregnant! So, you know what? It's a great untapped market. And their gift stuff, I don't know if you've gone on the website, is amazing, it's so cute, it's hilarious. They've had one season and they're becoming huge. So it's nice. I thought it'd be fun for them.
TWoP: Was it weird to design maternity?
CS: We collaborated a lot, because I'm really not that familiar with the body shape, and like, all the weird things they have to be, and in a certain way, and things have to come off on like the inside, and I'm just like, oh lord, I don't know. So, you know, it was a big collaboration and I just kind of gave them direction.
TWoP: I'm sorry, but my editor will kill me if I don't ask you: Do you still say fierce?
CS: Not really.
TWoP: I didn't think so.
CS: I do sometimes, like if it's really, really good. But... I mostly...
TWoP: You're over it.
CS: I'm over it. I say fabulous a lot. It comes out probably the same, but I guess after seeing myself on the show when it's edited that it's so much, I don't really notice myself saying it anymore.
TWoP: Have you been watching the new season of Runway?
CS: A little bit, here and there. I don't have cable in my new apartment.
TWoP: No!
CS: I know! So that's been my issue because, well, two reasons: A) I will watch TV every single day, and never get anything done, and B) I just never have time to call the cable people.
TWoP: Umm, that's what boyfriends are for.
CS: Yeah, I know, right? That slacker! He's slacking! No, actually my assistant's been calling every single day but we're having technical problems. I watch online, I try to keep up with the Runway blogs and all that crap. I don't know about this season though.
TWoP: I don't either. Certainly the personalities aren't as exciting as last season's. Do you think Blayne's whole "-licious" thing is him trying to be you?
CS: It is. Yep. Waddup! It's stupid. I mean, the thing is, maybe he does say "-licious" a lot, but I just don't believe that's a type of word that you can just say, and fierce is just something that people just say all the time.
TWoP: To me it just looks like he thought, "Oh, this guy had a catchphrase; I want one too."
CS: Yes! And I've done so much with it. And the thing about this season is like, OK, it's the fifth season, and it came so close after my season, they watched. I mean, they watched everything that's been happening to me, and Rami, and Jillian, so they're like, "Oh! All these things are happening to them; they have to happen to me too." And I think that it came so quickly, my season just ended, so it's so fresh in their minds, you know, what to expect. All the challenges, you know. It's getting a little repetitive, I think.
TWoP: I agree.
CS: True Hollywood story.
TWoP: So speaking of Rami, Jillian, Chris and everybody, do you still talk to any of them at all?
CS: Umm, actually, I talk to Jillian a little bit. You know, they're all busy. I wouldn't say... I don't think me and Rami will keep in touch all our lives. We're both very competitive with each other. Actually, he's very competitive with everyone. No, I'm just kidding. I think we're just both high-end designers that are both trying to do the same thing, so it's just different. Jillian I don't really feel like I'm competing with. I don't know why, I've just never really felt like that.
TWoP: Your styles are very different.
CS: It is very different. And even Rami's is really different, but I just felt like I competed with him way more than I ever competed with Jillian.
TWoP: He's kind of intense.
CS: Yeah, he really is.
TWoP: She's more chill.
CS: She's mellow, yeah. And Chris, like, he's great and I love him and he's super funny, but fashion-wise I never really thought of him as a fashion designer; I still think of him as a costume designer, even to this day, which is great. What he does, costume-wise, is fabulous.
TWoP: I read that you're going to be doing Emmy red carpet?
CS: Yeah! I'm doing a bunch of stuff for Emmys.
TWoP: For TV or online, or what?
CS: It's for Access Hollywood. Or no, it's for Extra! And then I'm doing something for E! News. I'm doing a bunch of stuff for Emmys, but the rest of the stuff I can't say what it is yet, but it's going to be really good! It's gonna be a looong Emmy week, let me tell ya!
TWoP: Who are you excited to see on the red carpet? Who always wows you?
CS: I don't know! Who's going to be fabulous?
TWoP: Or who's awful? Who's boring?
CS: I know, who's trannie? God, who am I excited for? I mean, I guess everybody's going to be there, isn't that fabulous? I'm excited to see all the leading ladies.
TWoP: Are you going to be mean?
CS: No, I have to be really nice. I have to be nice, but I am doing "Best and Worst Dressed" with E!, so that'll be really good. I'm gonna dish.
TWoP: So what are your favorite shows? Besides Top Model?
CS: [Across the room, to his boyfriend.] What are my favorite shows?
Christian's Boyfriend: You like 30 Rock.
CS: I do like 30 Rock. I like that show, it's really funny. And, you know, I was a really big Project Runway fan, and I watch a lot of the Bravo shows, really I do. Top Chef I always got into, Top Model's great, I watched Grey's Anatomy so much, and Desperate Housewives I was really into, Brothers & Sisters I watch.
TWoP: How do you feel about Private Practice?
CS: Private Practice I don't love as much. What's really hot right now? Ooh! I like Dancing With the Stars, I know that's corny.
TWoP: Gossip Girl is probably the biggest thing.
CS: And you know what? I don't love love Gossip Girl, but I like them. I like the people, the characters.
TWoP: Ed Westwick is dreamy.
CS: Yeah! Like, they're all gorgeous and fabulous, but then it's like, the show's not really that good.
TWoP: No, it's not. I don't get that show.
CS: But you know I'd make a cameo.
TWoP: Me too! I'll put that out there for you.
CS: Oh, and I like all those stupid Love shows. And even though those girls on The Hills pluck my nerves, that show is addicting. And gross. Absolutely. [In a high-pitched Hills voice] Love you, Lauren! Please put that in there.
TWoP: Try and stop me! So, we need to talk about Eloise in Paris. Can you dish on Uma?
CS: Dish! Uma! She's super fierce. She's kind of a diva.
TWoP: Really?
CS: No. I haven't really worked with her yet. The movie's going to be starting right after Fashion Week, so that's when it'll really be crunch time. But it's really exciting. I think it's really going to be amazing. It's going to be a big movie, I think.
TWoP: Were you a fan of the book when you were a kid?
CS: Not really. My mother was, obviously. I mean, it is my generation, but really it's older. I think I was just a little young for it, but I love the storyline, I think it's amazing. I think it's going to be a fabulous movie, it really is. Gorgeous, just gorgeous. The scenery is beautiful. We're shooting in Paris, Barcelona, London, ah! It's fabulous.
TWoP: And lastly, are there any fashion disasters in the tabloids that you just wanna take and fix?
CS: I just did this thing with People magazine, and let me tell you. Serious here. I am over the denim mini-skirt. That's what I'm over. Cameron Diaz was wearing one and Mariah Carey, and Mariah had a dress shirt tied at the waist with belly and an ombre denim skirt. Like, Mariah! We love her. But she needs help.
TWoP: She does need help. Well, she thinks she's like 13.
CS: I love it. She is. She's like, "I'm 12 and I just sing 'Always Be My Baby'!" or whatever.
TWoP: Rainbows! Butterflies!
CS: Totally.
TWoP: Anything else going on that you'd like to tell the Internet about?
CS: What else is going on? Hmm, what do I wanna leak? Oh! You have to watch the VMAs because I will be styling a leading lady performing.
